And if there's stuff you can't do or bring yourself to do, she'll have new ideas that are really thoughtful and intriguing. That's what will get you to do stuff. I was coming back from an injury when I joined her running group, and she worked with me on a training plan to get back to business. I just ran the Mercer Island 10k, and did so much better than expected - and am now excitedly gearing up for the Rock & Roll half marathon in June. The group meets Wed. evenings for track workouts at Garfield High, and Saturday mornings for group runs around the city. (Bonus: the Saturday runs always begin and end at a different coffee shop, so the group can reconvene after the run over some coffee and food.) It's been close to a year since I joined her, and I feel healthy and strong. Her background in designing games is evidenced by how creatively she structures her workouts - and her knowledge of the little pockets of the city is a real treat when you are running with her. She also offers bootcamp-style "strength and stamina" classes on weekday mornings, nutrition coaching, in addition to a monthly fitness challenge that you can participate in via Facebook (and win some money if you hit your goal!) The groups she attracts are non-judgmental, non-intimidating, and encouraging - so even if you are just starting out, or doing more walking than running, there is a spot for you! I'm so happy to have found her.

When I think yoga I think women, vegetarians, tree hugging eccentrics, and a workout for those that don't. Well... there were women there. Having come off of a recent ACL reconstruction and working through an elbow injury. I thought this would be a breeze (that's what I get for thinking) and would be an easy prerequisite to getting back into my workout routine and an increase in my flexibility, because yoga equals flexible right? I've done some cross fit and the only yoga I know is from street fighters Dhalsim (YOGA FLAME SON! ). Expecting to outdo the women in this class and showcase my bravado. I attended. Quickly I had my pride stripped away and my expectations exceeded. These women kick butt, this class kicked mine. I am more flexible and confidence in my knee is returning. Yliana is a capable, patient, motivational and spiritual instructor. I have attended several sessions so far and haven't been disappointed in the intensity and variety of the workouts. Today was a rooftop session! Which was GLORIOUS! Because sun in Seattle is like winning the lottery! I will continue to attend her style of yoga. Men, leave your ego or have it devoured.

My friend has even been out of town and I'm still going on my own (this is nothing short of miraculous). I am loving how I look and feel from this class. It's a great workout with awesome music and an instructor who clearly loves what she does; I highly recommend!

The Retrofit class is great - in my case, it was the perfect regimen to build up a baseline of strength after coming out of a fairly sedentary period in my life. Travis, the owner, cultivates an energetic, welcoming, disciplined environment. You'll quickly see that the classes are full of regulars - folks stick with GymSmithy because it's a supportive and effective setting that really feels like a community. I joined with the goal of establishing a physical exercise routine, which I did, but ultimately kept coming because of the profound positive effect the classes and community had on my mental health. If you leave nearby in Seattle and are looking for a place to invest in both your body and mind, I'd highly recommend GymSmithy.

This is hands down the best use of my time and money for fitness classes. Each day's workout works the entire body in a balanced way and provides fitness that builds rather than destroys one's body. The exercises are structured so that you can choose your intensity; there is never pressure to do more than you can safely do. I can feel confident that after a Retrofit class I am stronger and less prone to injury in my normal life. There is no body shaming or pressure to look a certain way. The pricing is great, and there's no hidden fees or confusing contracts. No annual fee, processing fee, initiation fees, or equipment fees like big box gyms charge. Here you pay for the class, you take the class. The owner, Travis, gives great personal attention and feedback during classes, and keeps things entertaining so classes are fun instead of a chore. After working out at GymSmithy I'm always looking forward to my next opportunity to come back.
