The Retrofit class is great - in my case, it was the perfect regimen to build up a baseline of strength after coming out of a fairly sedentary period in my life. Travis, the owner, cultivates an energetic, welcoming, disciplined environment. You'll quickly see that the classes are full of regulars - folks stick with GymSmithy because it's a supportive and effective setting that really feels like a community. I joined with the goal of establishing a physical exercise routine, which I did, but ultimately kept coming because of the profound positive effect the classes and community had on my mental health. If you leave nearby in Seattle and are looking for a place to invest in both your body and mind, I'd highly recommend GymSmithy.

This is hands down the best use of my time and money for fitness classes. Each day's workout works the entire body in a balanced way and provides fitness that builds rather than destroys one's body. The exercises are structured so that you can choose your intensity; there is never pressure to do more than you can safely do. I can feel confident that after a Retrofit class I am stronger and less prone to injury in my normal life. There is no body shaming or pressure to look a certain way. The pricing is great, and there's no hidden fees or confusing contracts. No annual fee, processing fee, initiation fees, or equipment fees like big box gyms charge. Here you pay for the class, you take the class. The owner, Travis, gives great personal attention and feedback during classes, and keeps things entertaining so classes are fun instead of a chore. She always has something new for me during my workouts. When I started with her, I had my collection old injuries and "trouble-spots" like one knee, a shoulder, back stuff. I'm happy to say that they haven't been a problem. Michelle brings me workouts that don't cause flare-ups. And, even a bigger deal, if I'm uncomfortable doing something (or just plain dead tired) I don't feel bad backing off. She doesn't make me feel like I'm shirking or less-than. I'm in better shape than I've ever been (for my age.) I love working out with Michelle. And, I bought some hand weights and she gave me a simple home workout I can do on my own. I'm not hurting myself training. And, in fact, am feeling pretty darned good to be doing these kinds of things for the first time in my life. I'd give her six stars if I could.

I've been a devoted gym rat my entire life, and I've been a member of or visited hundreds of gyms across the country. The EAC in Columbia City matches the best of any of them. Their free weights, weight lifting machines, and cardio equipment, are all up to date, and both varied and plentiful, so waits are minimal. And their Champions area is both spacious and well equipped. But it all starts with their people. Starting at the front desk. Dallas, Huy, and Erika, are among the first faces you see and, as with all good customer facing companies, they are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. And I've noticed that each regularly uses the seemingly lost skill of name recognition. They routinely display a proud sense of ownership. On every visit, I look forward to the words of encouragement from Dallas, and the smile and fist bump from Huy. On the back end, led by Zach, the fitness leader, they have a cadre of impressive trainers. Of the team, Sydney, Marcus, Sean, and Tre stand out for both their technical and interpersonal skills. Sydney, in particular, is both versatile and flexible whether an individual client or group is looking for weight training, conditioning, sparring/boxing, or simply lending an ear and a meaningful conversation. Similarly, Marcus is impressive with his high energy training and group Champions Class. He has, by far, the best music selection of any exercise class that I've ever been around. I think it was right around Halloween when I scrolled by Curt's Facebook ad. I answered and a day or so later heard back from Curt Ligot, and at that point he honestly changed my life. I had pushed the scale at 236lbs, and was being told by my doctor that I had tested with border line diabetes with levels at 6.4. I didn't really have a local support system, knew no one and was starting a new job in a new city and rather down in the dumps. My knees hurt, my back was sore and had gotten real lazy. Living in Kent, I was hesitant on the drive to Beacon Hill to see what Curt was working with. However, I got a good feeling from talking with him and felt a level of comfort so I decided to go in and give it a try, heck it was a free session with a trainer. I had sessions in the past (LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Bally's, Gold's) with trainers and all were basically the same. Do lots of cardio and train on this program that everyone else they coach are on, and no need to listen to what the client wanted or was telling was ailing them. So to meet with Curt and in one session know this was something I had to put all my heart and soul into, it was different. He listened to me about my aching knees, sore back and all my employees that lead to a daily migraine headache. Obviously abs are made in the kitchen just as much as they are in the gym. But things seemed to happen quicker with LTS. Not only did my knees feel better, I had more energy and desire to eat healthier. I talked to Curt during my sessions on food, and health ideas out of the gym. It was awesome and just as important as the sessions. He gave me tips and pointed out a couple key factors I would've never thought were not the healthiest choices to eat. I could seriously go on and on about how beneficial this program is/was to me. Whether you work with Curt or Jared you will get a great attitude, complete attention, 100% support, motivation, advice and all in an environment that makes you want to learn and grow as a person. Before you know it my twice a week visits went to 4 times a week, and the drive from Kent was never an issue I welcomed it. Working with LTS helped me reduce my body fat from 28% to the 18% range, my doctor flipped out when 9 months later I was testing at 5.3 range and completely in the healthy range, see you later diabetes!! Oh and not to mention I now hover in the 185 - 195lbs in weight, I stayed dessert free for over 200 days with the help of Curt and team. My new lifestyle of exercise and eating healthy is now who I am. Working with LTS has aided in my ability to become stronger both mentally and physically. Most importantly, he believes in me. There's not a day that goes by that I turn down any chance to be challenged. It is those challenges that keep me motivated and keep me wondering what's next in line to conquer. She's also good about removing an exercise if it's not doing what's intended so I'm not wasting my time. She does dry needling which has been a game-changer for me. It's fraction of the cost or time as a massage but has the same and longer lasting results. I can't recommend her highly enough. By far the best Physical Therapist I've ever worked with.
