About 6 TVs in the cardio area - none functioning
    Matt F.

If all you do is lift weights, this is a GREAT gym. If you use cardio equipment, it's a total joke. Either way, it is also completely filthy and in disrepair. 1. Weight equipment -- they have a very impressive variety of quality machines, free weights, etc. You won't find anything better in St Louis city limits - period. Seriously, the new downtown Y, OneLife, Sante, Planet Fitness, Fitness Factory, etc...no one comes close. Fit City is the hands down winner. 2. Cardio equipment -- with such a great weight lifting side, you would think they'd have cardio covered and they do sort of. They have a ton of equipment. The problem is that almost all of it is old, rusting out, and filthy. On nearly every machine, you can see visible rust where people have sweat and no one bothered to clean/maintain. And the units that have TV capabilities aren't hooked up. Two other weird things...the elliptical machines won't return to a "1" / neutral incline. Even when they are set to "1", they still operate at an incline. Lastly, the placement of the cardio equipment is bizarre. Of three total rows, two of them placed in socially awkward positions. First row faces a wall with your back toward the rest of the gym. Third row is also set with your back to the gym, directly face-to-face with the 2nd row. AWKWARD. 3. Filth/disrepair - Other than the rusting out cardio equipment, you can look around in any direction and just tell no one ever cleans the place. Dust accumulation on the floor, mildew on the floor, places where sweat hit but wasn't cleaned, etc. Many of the TVs aren't working, and oh...in the middle of COVID, NONE of the hand sanitizer stations have any sanitizer.

The best gym I have found in all of STL during my now 3 months here hands down. I have 2 gym memberships now and both are within 2 miles or so from home. My other gym is 24 hours and uber powerlifter/weightlifter friendly which I do love about it. Its even walking distance from home so I give an edge on that. However when time is of no issue I am usually gonna be coming here to Fit City as often as I can. The gym equipment is new, well kept, top brand chosen and geared towards both machines, plate loaded, free weights and performance conditioning. They even have a whole side room/sectioned off for powerlifting and functional training, platforms, rings, power racks, belt squat, reverse hypers and more. Someone who designed this must be a competitive lifter to know these details. The people here come to train and kick ass no doubt. You see all types from beginner to pro status, record holding lifters and competitors. Some look pretty intimidating but everyone here is friendly as shit and treats everyone else like family it seems. Men, women, younger, older, they have it all. The staff are super kind and welcome everyone when you come in and when you leave by name, I like the personal touch a gym has with its members. The gym staff trainers are always out on the floor with clients and seem to be super focused on the coaching aspects of training beyond just counting reps and saying "good job." Smoothie bar, tanning, and clean locker rooms with showers, wifi available to boot. This is THE gym to be a member of if its anywhere near your work or home. The vibe it gives alone makes you want to train harder and be one of the family.

This is the best gym for lifters. Period. I travel a lot and I visit countless gyms, but this is the best one I've been to for weight training. There's a ridiculous amount of space and they have every free weight, plate loaded or cable driven piece of equipment you can imagine. They have something ridiculous like 6 squat racks so even at peak hours you should be able to get in and out. Every piece of equipment seems brand new. No rush, the adjustable setting click into place seamlessly. Not one broken machine in site. The variety of equipment is what's really sets them apart. For example, if you wanted to develop your lower pectorals with a decline bench motion, you would have at least 4 options (not counting dips). You'd have the decline adjustable bench that you can use with dumbbells (if you want to focus on getting shredded), you have the fixed decline bench with the barbell (if you wanted to focus on mass), you have the plate loaded decline bench (for convenience), and you'd have the decline bench with cables (to strengthen stabilizing muscle fibers). I haven't seen any other gym with such variety. They have a good assortment of cardio equipment, but unlike other gyms, they don't obsess over it to their detriment. They have everything you would need, but not to a level that is duplicative and unnecessary. The space itself is huge. It's basically just a giant room with no walls so they maximize space. Many gyms are split level or sectioned off which makes it hard to get a circuit going. Here, all the equipment you need for a day is only of couple of unobstructed steps from one another. The staff members are extremely helpful and courteous. There's a protein shake stand and great branded merch at the front desk. GREAT HYPE MUSIC. Awesome place.

The jungle gym apparatus in the separate powerlifting room

I am am avid gym goer. I belong to a gold's in milwaukee, just here in STL for a wedding weekend. Read reviews that mentioned having every imaginable piece of equipment and I had to check it out. 1. They have a sled drag track on astro turf. Are you kidding me?! 2. They have a reverse hyperextension machine. So rare. In love. 3. They have a separate room with 4 lifting platforms and a jungle gym setup with 4 squat racks with 4 landmines, ring stations and tons of kettlebells 4. They have all the standard gym equipment with some neat space saving racks for barbells 5. They have 5 C2 rowers. Felt like this was worth knowing. 6. Some sweet stretching equipment that I didn't get to try out. 7. A group workout room as well I'm so jealous. No way I don't come back to this gym if I'm back in town.

Great gym and tons of equipment. Crowded though, and folks tend to "park" on the equipment for 30 minutes at a time. Lots of body builders that feel like they can "reserve" about 3 or 4 pieces.of equipment at a time, by leaving their bag by 1, a phone on another, their water bottle on a third, etc. Main gripe is the locker rooms are dirty, small, and need updating and typically smell so bad you need to be able to hold your breath for the duration you are in there. You definitely would not want to shower there, and the sauna is a tiny box in the corner that looks into the locker roo..

Members spend enough time working out without having to tour the entire gym looking for equipment that was left somewhere else. When I mentioned that the equipment should be put back where it came from, Sharon's professional response was to tell me to "mind your own business" and that "it doesn't matter" where the equipment is returned. Interesting philosophy. I wonder if LifeTime feels that way, too. You can almost understand when an occasional member leaves equipment lying around. But when it's an employee--someone who's literally being paid to teach good habits--it's a masterclass in hypocrisy. Maybe the next training package should include a session called "How to Return Equipment 101." It's a short class: pick it up, walk it back, and put it where you found it. For a club that markets itself as a luxury fitness experience, I'd expect trainers to set the example--not encourage members to lower their standards. Apparently, "mind your own business" is now considered customer service.

If you've never tried body pump before but want to, Michael B is the best instructor when it come to new folks. Go to any of his classes and learn everything you need to in order to get strong and stay safe. This location also has super new machines as it recently opened last year, so everything feels super fresh. Also, I love that they have a gender neutral restroom/ locker room. I will say this location isn't super family oriented like I've noticed other locations are, but that seems more fitting for downtown as the crowd seems more transient and younger. I've also had generally great experiences with the folks who work at the front desk. Very inclusive, accommodating, and friendly. It's my spot! The only downside is parking downtown can be a drag.
