Came to Barre Body Studio for the first time this weekend as part of Yelp's Club Fit!…read more The facility was beautiful with Barre studios (one larger than the other). The atmosphere was beautiful, bright, and clean! Glow Juicery is just inside to the left for a pre or post workout treat! I love that everything is made right in front of you and totally customizable! I love ANYTHING with ginger and kale - Yummy! Erin was the instructor for my class - super friendly and knowledgeable. She gave alternatives for lower impact options when it came to the cardio section. I was really surprised at the intensity of the class given the small movement/range of motion. I am confident the class could kick the fittest butt around as well as being modifiable for someone just starting to work out. Class was broken up into warm up, upper body with weights, lower body with a squishy ball, cardio, and ab work on eco friendly mats. They provide everything you need, including lockers with a key! They sell special footy socks that help you grip the floor if you like. I noticed on the wall that they were in the midst of a 30 day challenge, too! There were three large washrooms and beautiful vanity sink area complete with personal hygiene items if you needed to freshen up. If you are looking for a women only fitness class, definitely give Barre Body Studio a try!

So my kid took ninja classes here for about 3 years. And the first two or so years were lovely. But…read morein the past 6 months the quality of the classes has decreased for my kid. Not only that but the staff communication has become contradictory and frustrating. Some of the coaches are better than others, sure, but my kid did get at least one bleeding nose that wasn't spotted by the coaches that day. Repeated nagging on billing issues that were already resolved, email advertising for a PD Day camp on a day that wasn't a PD day but rather the national day of Truth and Reconciliation, disorganized classes, and the no longer availability of lockable lockers for belongings all contributed to a worsening experience. There is now a lot of competition in the kids ninja gym space so we will go elsewhere. Sadly this was one of the only facilities that catered toward the really young kids when we started here, and it really was excellent at first with good transit accessibility, awesome coaching staff, and more. Now, the formerly 1 hour classes are only 50 minutes, some days there isn't even an obstacle course, and the seating in the viewing area is less comfortable. Following this business's NIMBY anti-safe consumption space advocacy, I find it hard to encourage anyone to go here. I definitely find that a lot more parents are unsatisfied with the kids classes. Plus it is quite cold in here.

I didn't realize they split…read morethe gym in two parts though - one side for regular gym/fitness class stuff, and the other side (aka the fun side!) was for obstacle course practice/technique/training!! ** I am so going back for round 2 to experience the obstacle stuff!** The shop is quite spacious for the size it is, and easily hosts workout groups for 10 :) This place is kept pretty tidy, with everything back in its place for easy access for the next group, and the group members voluntarily also help put it back They have lots of free weights and treadmills, couple of different sizes boxes, balance balls, and some other fun stuff not shown in the pictures (like the heavy tires outside!). The trainer I had for the class, Stacey, kicked our sorry butts to the corner of the street and back! Her great energy and enthusiasm spurred us on, considering she was carrying a little human in her belly! I tip my hat off to you Stacey! In a nutshell, Great place, great peeps, and a burning desire to play on the other side!

After a really bad fail trying to get into another gym, (see S&M Fitness review) I drive away…read moreagitated, and stumble across this little gem! Located in the basement of an old looking building, this well kept, well appointed fitness centre feels like a broken in pair of boots that you've taken really good care of, oiled the leather, replaced the soles, and now you couldn't imagine life without them. Owned for the last 12 years by a super nice and friendly woman, all the kinks have been worked out, they have pretty much everything a person would want in a gym, and it's all spaced nicely with good amounts of room to perform exercises. I did circuit work a couple days, heavier lifting a couple days, so I used pretty much everything there except cardio equipment since the weather was nice and I ran around outside. Everything I used functioned perfectly, with plenty of attachments for all the machines. I've reviewed lots of gyms, but I've never seen the benches and machines they have at adrenaline. They use Magnum and Equalizer equipment. (80's TV show theme?) Nothing fancy or complicated, but always nice to work on something a little new and different. They offer free towel service, and sell water and Gatorade out of a bar fridge by the desk. I went to buy water on two occasions, but both times the person working (once the owner, once a staff member) gave it to me free, despite my having talked to them and them knowing I was just passing through town. They have a reasonably priced $6.00 drop in, or ten visits which don't expire for $50.00 - when I explained I was only in town for a week, the owner offered to sell me a "half ten visit pass" for $25.00. Really felt like they tried to give me good value for what I had come to do. The woman who owns the place is super great. Single mom, running a gym, we talked about the challenges of running a business and getting by. There's an older man and a young girl who is recovering from a major illness who also work there, I think that's about it for staff. The young woman is also really friendly, a wife and mother. Didn't talk as much with the guy, but he gave me one of the free waters, so obviously also a nice person. This is definitely my choice in Camrose, I'll give them my business 100% of the time. Thanks, Adrenaline Gym!

Guys, THIS PLACE. I'm loving boutique fitness more and more, but this has to be one of the nicest…read moreand most welcoming studios I have been to. Hive is located on Jasper and 104 street, with access right beside Corso 32. We parked in an Impark lot one block south of Jasper on 104th, but street parking is also available. There's a nice sandwich board pointing you in the door and up the stairs. When I arrived with my friend (also a newbie), we did the usual waiver signing and got a tour of the studio. After we had changed, a staff member sat with us and showed us how to use the rowing machines, and brought us all the blocks and bands we would need for the class. There are change rooms with bathrooms and showers, a lounge area, and some complimentary valuable lockers (I had to wait for one to free up after a previous class finished to store my purse). Hive offers rowing classes, yoga, HIIT and spin, meaning you can get a great variety of classes for purchasing one subscription or set of passes. We tried a rowing class because we had never done one before, and we were pretty nervous about the unknown. The class was tough, but also so fun! In between rowing we did mat work beside the machines that included arm work, lunges, push-ups etc. We did the class on Tuesday and my legs didn't feel normal again until Friday evening (always a good sign!). Our instructor was awesome, so high energy and encouraging, and consistently checking with us to make sure we understood movements and that our form was correct. Everything about our visit was great. The effort the staff have made to create a trendy environment that is welcoming, inclusive and encouraging is apparent. Definitely check out Hive for a great workout!

Just kidding, we're all baddies with careers. I miraculously made it to class today so that's also a plus for me, yay! Anyway, the esthetic is on point. I especially love the honeycomb decor with the plants - I might even buy something like that and put it up in my home, very cute. They have some nice inspirational messages around as well so you can attempt to pump yourself up to workout. I do not like working out and I don't like being up at this time of day, but the ambience of the place made it more bearable. We're greeted at the door by a friendly staff member who helped me find spin shoes that fit properly. Then we were introduced to Lauren, our spin instructor. Everyone was so nice, asking me if I needed water, taking me on a tour, helping me stick my shoes in the peddles, adjusting my seat etc. I was like wow, this is a lot of care! I'm super low maintenance when I work out so all this attention was definitely an experience. I loved the seats here. They didn't make my behind ache when class was over. I'm actually sitting right now and feeling pretty comfortable. Class itself was awesome. I haven't done a spin class with weights before, and this was by far the best part of the workout for me. I love the isometric movements and could feel the burn for sure! I also had to laugh because so many people were hootin' and hollerin' it was awesome! I love when people get into the workout because it helps pump up those of us who were dragged out of bed kicking and screaming (not me). My favourite part of the workout was when it was over. No joke, they come around with MINT COLD TOWELS for you to wipe your face with. I was like damn, I must have made it. This is truly the life. I would definitely come back to this studio. I know they have a rowing class that I might want to check out. I will say that they do charge a pretty penny for these luxury workouts. There is also a no-show fee that is a whopping $15! I've never seen a no-show fee that high before. If money is your motivator, this is the place for you.
