Another solid dive bar in Glendale heights. Darts, long bar and good service. Definitely worth a stop

Refused service for no reason. Bartender was drunk and unprofessional. Treated as less than a human being. Cockroaches everywhere!

We were there a few days ago and there was two older ladies causing trouble complaining about nonsense and music being too loud for " elders". They asked bartender Eric if he could turn down the speakers to silent he said unfortunately no he couldn't . He explained very professionally how he couldn't bc he needs to accommodate to everyone in the bar . The two ladies got very mad and vulgar and started speaking very nasty. On the bright side I just want to say Eric was very professional and emphatic towards them but they were just angry and upset . I truly believe no matter what he would have done for them they wouldn't have been happy. At the end of the day the bartender did what he thought was right for the whole bar and he did it with respect and compassion.ERIC IS THE ONLY REASON I WILL BE BACK . If you're looking for a bit of dive bar, and we were one random evening, then Fitz's Thirsty Irishman will easily check the box. We came in looking for a beverage and, perhaps, a bite. However, they apparently only serve drinks (or at least just on the night we were there? being told we could bring in any food we wanted from outside). Anyway, I do think the bartender missed a good opportunity to up-sell the bags of chips hanging by the bar but, nonetheless, we simply had a beer and then left. There isn't much to this place and it's a great example of a divey bar out here in the suburbs. It's dimly lit, TV's playing sports, and some cheap decor to add ambiance. The staff (bartender) was there but added nothing to the experience. And the drink selection was on par with what we expected. The thing about dive bars is that each one tends to have it's own little "thing" about it. Fitz's, however, is just a bar. That's it. It's a bar. While I'm not disappointed that we visited I will say that I probably won't return again in the future. read more

My Irishman has been eyeballing this place since our first visit to neighboring Pho Hà for our Vietnamese fix and has continued to do so every visit since. Given how often we've dropped in on Pho Hà, it's added up to a bit of eyeballing. Since we're finally heading off today, he decided to finally pay the joint a visit when we had to drop by . There was a decent-sized crowd of regulars already in and around the space at 5 pm, with more joining their groups while we sat. The bartender herself was outside chilling with some of the regulars when we first arrived - was cool to see that kind of bond between the crowd. Was also cool that they were fine with us bringing our goi cuon order from Pho Hà in to nom on over drinks. My guy ordered a black and tan/half and half, which gave the bartender pause - she didn't have the Bass Ale or Harp Lager necessary to make either. He encouraged her to use what she could, since he'd had some variations on the beer cocktails that were quite untraditional lately around here anyway. She responded with a black and blonde: Guinness Stout over Guinness Blonde. A few sips in, my guy made a face. The Guinness Stout didn't taste right. On top of that, the tap had apparently gone flat. Thankfully, the Guinness Blonde hadn't suffered the same fate, so that was decent. His next order was a Killian's Irish Red. Which they also didn't have. Wait. Isn't this an Irish bar? He ended up settling for a Guinness Blonde. I'm a bit baffled at the idea of a bar that claims identity as an Irish bar to point of having the focal point of the name, logo, and overall theme scream Irish only to stop short of the drink menu. I suppose it depends on the crowd though. When my guy told the bartender that they should check their tap, she responded that they rarely pour it. If would seem that despite the Irish theme, the place doesn't see much Irish support. Lots of domestic beers. We didn't get the sense of a kitchen. In fact, we walked in to find that we weren't the only ones who had brought their own food - food boxes and to-go bags littered the central oval bar counter. read more

New.young man Bartender ever. Very bad news with this guy. Me and my girlfriend came in order drinks. It was supposed to be one glass with 7up and ice, glass of wine and Miller Lite beer. This guy charged two wines and 1 Miller Lite. He refused to change it, smiling, ng, and disrespectful to the elders. Completely a thief and rude service. After this service, we will not come back. I would like to say I enjoyed my time, but I can't. After finding seats and ordering, where seemed to be no problems. But then a different bartender approached and asked for ID. He ignored my boyfriend and after a slight glance at my ID he immediately refused us service (which the other bartender was already making our drinks) and gave no reason as to why. He showed no respect and offered no civility in the matter. If this is the way their staff is allowed to act, I couldn't imagine the attitude of the owners to allow them to treat customers with such disrespect. I hadn't even ordered an alcoholic drink, so my ID seemed as if it should have been a non-issue. On top of the complete absence of any COVID safety measures, this dirty, cramped bar is a place that makes it clear that if you are not already a regular, you are not welcome. read more

went in for a drink after work and i've always seen it passing by but never went in. finally decide to go in after work and guy asks for my id and i guess he thought it was a fake cause then he just handed it back to me and said "i don't know". after that i just got up and left cause i guess i'm not 21 apparently lol. this really left a bad impression on this place for me and i never usually leave reviews for places but this really pissed me off. don't spend money at this trash hole. read more

Fitz's Thirsty Irishman is part of the local "Fitz Family" we've all come to know and love over the years. If you've been to Elmhurst, you know what I'm talking about. The owner was smart and came in here to take over the old Avalanche Pub. He cleaned it up - including switching out the flooring which was my biggest complaint when previously visiting - and turned this location into a spot that I enjoy stopping in at for a drink. It's mainly a locals sorta place. Not quite Cheers, where everyone knows your name, but almost. The servers make it a point to actually talk with the patrons. The owner spends a fair amount of time here as far as I can tell shaking hands and kissin' babies - well maybe just the first part. He doesn't sell food at this location, but he does give it away particularly on big game Days which is really cool. They're also totally cool with outside food being brought in. So grab a pizza at Joseph's or some steamy Pho or whatever floats your boat and enjoy it before/with/after your cocktail. They'll even share the carryout menus for the local spots to make life easier. I've never seen so much Coors poured in all my life. Lol! Yes, this is basically a beer and a shot spot. My Tito's and cranberry was mixed just right for me, but if you're looking for foo-foo drink or a huge craft beer selection, this probably isn't the best bet for you. They've got some gambling machines toward the back of the bar. I played once. I wasn't a big winner, but it was a fun diversion for a few. Finally, the best part? The bar chairs are comfortable, they have a foot rest, aren't wobbly and there's a step built in as another foot rest around the bar. Great local joint, owned by a gentleman with a track record of successful establishments. Sadly however, this particular place has a controlling night bartender (male) who for whatever reason seems to relish tossing folks, or straight up not serving them for unbeknownst reasons. And it's not like I don't spend coin, nor tip. Tending is not as glamorous as many think, I was in the biz many moons ago. You have to have the right personality for it. Last time in there, a few months back, I walked up to the bar and before I could say a word..."can't serve ya." I was like, what? He just shook his head. I left and haven't been back. And the kicker is, been there other times prior and he's just fine. Like a different person. Too bad, it's a great local place. read more
