Black and blonde, the bartender's well-intentioned response to my Irishman's half-and-half or black and tan request
    Alex J.

My Irishman has been eyeballing this place since our first visit to neighboring Pho Hà for our Vietnamese fix and has continued to do so every visit since. Given how often we've dropped in on Pho Hà, it's added up to a bit of eyeballing. Since we're finally heading off today, he decided to finally pay the joint a visit when we had to drop by . There was a decent-sized crowd of regulars already in and around the space at 5 pm, with more joining their groups while we sat. The bartender herself was outside chilling with some of the regulars when we first arrived - was cool to see that kind of bond between the crowd. Was also cool that they were fine with us bringing our goi cuon order from Pho Hà in to nom on over drinks. My guy ordered a black and tan/half and half, which gave the bartender pause - she didn't have the Bass Ale or Harp Lager necessary to make either. He encouraged her to use what she could, since he'd had some variations on the beer cocktails that were quite untraditional lately around here anyway. She responded with a black and blonde: Guinness Stout over Guinness Blonde. A few sips in, my guy made a face. The Guinness Stout didn't taste right. On top of that, the tap had apparently gone flat. Thankfully, the Guinness Blonde hadn't suffered the same fate, so that was decent. His next order was a Killian's Irish Red. Which they also didn't have. Wait. Isn't this an Irish bar? He ended up settling for a Guinness Blonde. I'm a bit baffled at the idea of a bar that claims identity as an Irish bar to point of having the focal point of the name, logo, and overall theme scream Irish only to stop short of the drink menu. I suppose it depends on the crowd though. When my guy told the bartender that they should check their tap, she responded that they rarely pour it. If would seem that despite the Irish theme, the place doesn't see much Irish support. Lots of domestic beers. We didn't get the sense of a kitchen. In fact, we walked in to find that we weren't the only ones who had brought their own food - food boxes and to-go bags littered the central oval bar counter.

Another solid dive bar in Glendale heights. Darts, long bar and good service. Definitely worth a stop

Refused service for no reason. Bartender was drunk and unprofessional. Treated as less than a human being. Cockroaches everywhere!

Heard that before, Rob. McNally's is cute and all but nothing like the greats. It has a comfy cozy atmosphere that, initially, I found relaxing. Then the server showed-up with a nasty disposition and the patience of a child. After waiting entirely too long for a check-up, I ended up asking the bartender for a refill. How hard is it to just grab the server and tell her to add a drink to our tab? No can do. I was dismissed, very short and coarsely, and told to order it through my waitress. The saving grace was their menu and quality of food. The scotch egg, shepherd's pie boxty and the Guinness chocolate mousse were spot on. I had a bite of their bangers and mash and easily could order that, too. I didn't handle the bill but I can tell you the place is pricey and there's not enough here to justify it. Obviously, we didn't say a thing to the good doctor but this place is mediocre at best. 02/26

I was craving corn beef, cabbage and red potatoes. The only item that was cooked correctly were the potatoes, melted butter added to the taste. As far as the cabbage, all taste cooked out of it. The beef was as dry as shoe leather (dried out and hard) and had absolutely no taste what so ever. Salt and pepper could not even bring any flavor. An Irish restaurant that can't cook a staple on its menu. Wait Service was adequate yet not exceptional. Menu listing. The cocktails are not good. They have essentially no local beer. Maybe a single token brewery but I can't even recall what it would have been. And then they randomly close whenever they want instead of staying open their posted hours. The bartender looked like she hates her job and the owner or manager was just obviously in a bad mood when we were there last. We bought drinks at 10:15 and heard "last call" literally 5 minutes later. And 5 minutes after that they were rushing everyone out of the bar. Meanwhile their hours were open til midnight posted in multiple locations, I checked. I asked when they closed and the bartender just said "soon". Awful place and awful service. Generic and lame too.
