Actually went twice in less than a week. Interesting that the first time we got a small loaf of bread on the table. The second time we got two small buns. Small water glasses first time, huge the second time. I ordered the beef stroganoff and it looked delicious. Much too salty so I ate just half. My friend had a pot pie which looked very nice and was hot and tasty. the second time I thought I'd get a sandwich and avoid the salt but the portabella chicken panini was also quite salty. ut it was delish. Otherwise the baked potato was cooked nice and soft. Delicious. We had a different wait person both times and I found them both responsive and friendly enough. I love the atmosphere and the white tablecloths. And there is a happy hour with 1/2 price drinks now. I think it was weekdays 1-4 so not everyone can take advantage of it. I've been to Manhattan's several times over the past few years. I've also had quite a few things from their menu, but I usually get the fried chicken because it's always been huge pieces and very flavorful. So of course I got the fried chicken platter this time. So the service was fine. We sat in the bar area, which is comfortable. The booth is spacious enough. The ambiance is okay. A few locals sitting at the bar sipping cocktails and/or beer/wine. So back to the chicken. I swear the pieces were smaller this time. This was probably the fifth time I ordered the fried chicken, and although there were still four pieces, each one seemed smaller, especially the breast and thigh. Still good, but smaller. The Cole slaw was not as cold as I remember as well. I got mashed potatoes, which were very good. My wife got a salmon dish with mixed vegetables. She thought it was just okay. We noticed a lot of old people dining, and then realized we were them too. It's tough getting old. So would I return? Yes, of course, but really, did the chicken pieces actually get smaller? I'll tell you the food. Here is amazing. Absolutely love it. However, the problem that I have is the service I've come here three times. I've given it three chances and for the life of me I don't understand how extremely slow it could be. I mean the people are wonderful. It's almost like hard to communicate with your waiter or waitress. It's like they bring you your food and disappear. Then you got to hunt them down for a drink or refill. Despite all of this, I will definitely go back cause I really really wanna like this place. The food is phenomenal. The ambience is family oriented. The people at the front are nice. Ordered a ham sandwich with tomato soup. The soup looked and tasted like ketchup and the sandwich was just grocery sandwich bread and a thick piece of ham thrown in plus mayo. I could have made a much better sandwich at home. The server showed how much she didn't want to be there. It appeared she was doing us a favor serving us. This is a nice, local restaurant where having a place for friends and family to meet is likely more important than the quality being served. Service was good and they had an iPad that served as their menu - very cool! The majority of of meal was good except for my orange roughy which tasted like it was frozen, then thawed in the microwave, and then baked in the oven. It was tough and lacked any flavor. read more

My guest had the generous portion of lasagna and I had the chicken & sausage in risotto with a delicious cream sauce with red and green peppers. Someone in that kitchen really knows how to cook. My friend, fiancé, and I took my mom there for a graduation celebration and were easily the youngest table in the room, but we still had a blast. Service has good for a Saturday night but they did tell us they had the place booked later and asked us if we'd have enough time to comfortably eat. We did. Saganaki and bread were outstanding. Shrimp bisque and Cesar salad left a lot to be desired. My fried chicken was very hot, crispy and delicious. My friend's Jack Daniel's steak was more medium well than the medium rare he ordered. I never review restaurants and recognize there are times when a restaurant is extremely busy. Tonight though I need to review the trouble we experienced at Manhattans. After waiting 30 minutes after we had been seated I had to go to the front desk to left them know that our table and the table next to us were never approached by a server. No water, nothing. A few minutes earlier we had asked a bus boy if he could help get a server but still we didn't get anyone. After 30 minutes I told the person who seated us and 10 minutes later still no server. On our way out we ran into the manager, no one had informed him of the situation. Finally we just left. read more

We go to Manhattan's for the music. Great bands. Honestly though do they train their servers? Often the servers will walk past the tables they service and never ask if the customer needs anything, like " would you like another drink"? A good server always checks on their tables every time they walk by. At Manhattans this seems to not be something the servers, some servers, are trained to do. It may be that it's hard to get servers these days. But the one's at Manhattan's need training. Even upon arrival and seating it takes quite a long time before some comes to your table. Big restaurant, kind of dated but ok. I went on a Saturday night early and they got fairly busy. A lot of seniors. The bread may be the best part. Overall the food is pretty good but our server really ruined our dining experience. First she give may friend the wrong steak but she didn't realize it and ate two bites. Then my other friend got her steak and she said this isn't what I ordered. The server said oops and switched the two steaks and said oh, you owe her a couple of bites. What the heck! Then another dish was given to us but belonged to another table. And she said wait don't eat that, that belongs to someone else and gave it to another table. Just wrong and gross. The German dinner special with braised cabbage was delicious but knowing that a server has no concern over wrong dishes, makes you wonder what else is going on at this restaurant. The lady with long golden braids was extremely rude to me and snapped at me just for trying to get her attention! She treats all her regulars great and knows them all by name. She waited on another couple right away but ignored me for 15 minutes. I admire their patriotism. But we now have dining choices and hopefully the next time Illinois trys to shut everyone down more places will refuse. I am not coming back here. Thought we would try this spot as it was recommended by a couple locals. So glad we did!! Cute place. The waitress was patient with us, since there was so much to choose from.
