My husband and four of our friends joined us for dinner at Five. We arrived right when they were opening so we had no wait time. It is just how it was described to me by a friend who recommended it; 5 appetizers 5 entrees 5 desserts. Hip little spot. We sat on the patio. I thought all of the food was very flavorful. My friend had the steak and said it was good. (not great but good) we had the two burgers which I thought was great. The burgers were simple & small patties but there was a delicious mango salsa/sauce on top. The sides were great and appetizers were great as well. I had heard good things about this place. Hell, I was even about to pay $13 for a burger. The service was terrible. It was like our table was not even there. The only saving grace was that Catch-22 was more than capable of making cocktails for us. I found our server shooting the shit at the 5 bar. Customers should never have to go in search of their server. I saw a lovely lady attend to the table next to us several times between our server's appearances. Clearly pissed off at the sin of moving. I offered to close out with the waitress so he could start fresh. Not having it. Ordered 2 drinks he was aware of the beignet order. Another 5 -10 minutes. Is it ok if we order brunch? "You can do whatever you like". After another 30 minutes . My wife asked him would you please check on the b's. Ignored . Finally I said hey man what is up? In town for work, FIVE was the first spot I checked out when I got to town. The bartender, Mitch, was super friendly and directed me toward the burger, which was super tasty. The bacon relish on top is a great addition. I opted for extra of the house salad in place of french fries, and the house salad is super good- blackberries, goat cheese, etc. It's a great local spot to hit for dinner and drinks. read more

The food here is across the board impressive. Their brunch, lunch and dinner menus are all limited as many people have noted, but the limitation is to create a highlighted menu of only quality food. In my experience, the only problems are the service. It seems many of the staff are either recent turn-overs or just "get by" with apathy. Recently, I was treated to a server named Paul who was either lost, or was a gift from God to Five. Paul was professional, kind and had the general qualities anyone wants their waiter to possess when dining. Five has a lot to offer to a college town environment, but their management have a misguided view of importance on hiring/training their wait staff. I will eat here again for the food, but to be clear there is a short limit for how many times food can eclipse the feeling of being snubbed by someone you are paying. read more

I lived in Ttown from 2010-2013. Five's jazz brunch had just become "a thing" around that time. And, it was AMAZING! I brunched there practically every Sunday! Fast forward to Sunday, September 30, 2018: My first time back and I was so excited to take my daughter and mom to the place they have heard me rave about forever and it was a HUGE let down. First, we were told there would be a 20-30 minute wait, which I didn't believe to begin with so I will spare you those details. Plus, at this point, I'm remembering the Five of yesteryear so I've convinced myself and family it's all totally worth it. Once we are seated, we are greeted by our waitress who is nice but terribly distracted by the tons of other tables she is working in addition to ours. It took forever to get drinks. The musician was okay, but the whole vibe was just...off. Service was slow...and after over and hour of waiting for our food, it finally arrived only to be cold. I mean seriously? How do you have five menu items and haven't perfected this by now?!? I also noticed parties who came in AFTER us get their food and leave BEFORE us. But they also had a different server so Idk. Oh, forgot to mention I ordered the brunch burger and I've honestly had better at McDonald's. I will NOT be back. read more

Attended 5 bar recently for a nice, relaxing Sunday Brunch. The food was fantastic.....but were not here to talk about that. We only care about the water, the most crucial beverage in the world. Your water says a lot about what else you're gonna be bringing to the table. REVIEW: tasted pretty neutral, probably a solid ph level, but the lack of ice was concerning. Five is a really good place for date night. The restaurant provides nice dining and classic dishes that have a little "5" twist added to them. The steak is absolutely one of the best I have ever had. The brunch that is served on Sunday is out of this world. The chicken and waffles is awesome and crab cakes are just decadent. Second experience at Five. Came back last week for a birthday dinner so they could redeem themselves. It did not happen. The only reason this review is scraping by and getting two stars is solely on the politeness of the waitress and the smoked tuna dip.I had three Measly scallops that were the size of quarters. I Then got bent over so hard by the check. I thought I needed a bite down on my belt. Complete rip off for some sub par seafood. My dates chicken looked like a piece of beef jerky it was so tough. They also call themself a "southern cuisine." Need to learn how to use butter then in your mashed potatoes cause I think Winn Dixie's deli has better. I'm no emerald either. But have ate at a few decent places in my lifetime. So for all you yelper's out there. You can take my opinion with a grain of salt. I'd take my business elsewhere. read more

My favorite place in T-town. The inside has cool chandeliers but it's a bit noisy, so I prefer the patio.

We ate here for Sunday brunch and it was so good! The wait was very reasonable. Love the Destin cocktail and my boyfriend enjoyed the Bloody Mary bar. There was live music and our waiter was attentive without hovering. I loved my BLT salad and my boyfriend's chicken & waffles were good too. The only negative was that we were sat by the door, so people waiting on their table hovered around us. Even then we had a pleasant meal and good service. I will be returning very soon :) read more

Where to begin?! I have been coming to Five for the past four years and each time I can rely on good service, great drinks and even better food! Five Bar has a jazzy New Orleans vibe. There are interesting art pieces and light fixtures throughout the intimate dining room. My favorite part about 5 is the java cafe. The cafe is connected to the restaurant and is open daily from 8am-5pm. Customers can order delicious coffee, espresso, juices, smoothies, and lunch. I can't believe this is only a 3.5. Five is an outstanding restaurant. Entrees are delicious, the salad that comes with it is unique and tasty, and the atmosphere is trendy and fun. The paneed chicken is good, and the burger has some kind of a bacon relish that you HAVE to try. The baked avocado is small but the flavor is out of this world. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. The Mint Julep was extremely watered down, and barely contained any bourbon. Even worse though, when I ordered a Sam Adams Boston Lager I was given a Sam Summer, which is sort of like asking for a Bud and receiving a Blue Moon. I get that their theme is five of everything, but only having five domestics and five imports means that every other bar in the area has a much better beer selection. Worst though, was the music. It was entirely too loud for no necessary reason. If this were just a bar that might be excusable, but for dinner it was beyond obnoxious. read more

Everything on my plate went together perfectly. You can tell there is a lot of thought behind main course and side pairings. I AM a fan of the crowded and noisy atmosphere. Not crazy pricey for the quality of coffee. Parking is alright as its located downtown and near the parking garage. Really chill place and a good alternative to Starbucks. read more

Five is great!!! The jalapeño pineapple margarita is the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. Highly recommend. The seafood gumbo and pork chops are great. The atmosphere and decor is super fun and eclectic. After you pay the bill, your server will bring complimentary cookies to your table as an after dinner treat. Love this place! Started the evening with a nice mixed drink. Wife tried the Berry Bourbon cocktail on the menu and enjoyed it so much she ordered a second. We split the baked avocado appetizer- very good but could be a small meal in itself. Best to split. Both of us had the Gulf Seafood special of Cobia, greens and vegetables. It was excellent. I have gone here a few times. The concept of only 5 choices kind of annoys me, but I realize that's there marketing strategy and I accept it. I haven't ever been disappointed in the food. We had a baked avocado that was amazing, I wish it was a permanent menu item. The burgers are surprising delicious. My two complaints which prevent me from rating it higher are 1). Service is consistently terrible. I'm not sure if it's because Tuscaloosa is a college town, but it needs work. We have waited over 20 minutes to see our server on several occasions, even after asking the hostess to send out our waitress. 2). The drinks are pretty weak/not good. I understand that there is a standard pour and all, but I would like to taste just a hint of alcohol when I pay for a cocktail. In addition, my mint julep tastes like watered down bourbon, without any mint flavor at all. Even my screwdriver tasted like watered down OJ. I'm not sure what the bartenders are using, but I've been a bartender for 5 years and my drinks don't taste that bad. Overall, if you go on a night that's not too busy and avoid mixed beverages, I think you would be pretty happy with this place. It's worth a shot in my book. read more
