First time eating here and it was fabulous! Menu is small but mighty. You know they are making everything fresh if the menu is smaller. My meal came with a HUGE butterfly crisp chicken breast over cheesy pasta and a side salad. The chicken had a perfect crunch and salted! The penne was very creamy and smooth. The salad was wonderful with bits of goat cheese, green apple and a sweet creamy salad dressing. Location is great. Downtown and close to a parking deck if you can't find street parking. Gets a little busy but we were able to sit with a party of 7 at dinner time on Friday without wait. Will be going back!

I've been wanting to go to Jazz Brunch but I guess today wasn't the day!! And sad to say will be the last day We came to Five, was seated real quickly in the back where the kids study.. I immediately got irritated people came in after us and was not seated back there. I even heard a family standing in the door way next to us talk about it was going to be a 30 to 45 minute wait for them even though it was several tables behind us. Sad to say this visit felt very discriminating & I don't have to go to no place I'm not welcomed..

Great new menu item! Not sure if it's just seasonal or here to stay but it's delicious!

When you roll through Tuscaloosa make sure you hit FIVE BAR... Name comes from only 5 entree items on the menu whether it be brunch or dinner. Nice cocktail list, exceptional service in a laid back clean relaxed environment. We dropped in for brunch I started with a cup of fresh coffee and the beignets... entree was the grilled shrimp and grits, which have the right amount of ghost peppers and goat cheese! Highly recommended!

The flank steak here is surprisingly tender and packed with flavor. The chimichurri sauce on top adds a fresh and tangy contrast. The roasted sweet potatoes on the side are a nice change from the usual fries. Everything came together beautifully.

Easy-peasy ordering with such a limited menu.

Five Bar. I get it. There are just 5 entrees each night for dinner and it also has a beautiful historic bar. It's spacious and wide open inside the historic building. The bartender, Matt, was on point in keeping our adult beverages full. There is an incredible collection of hand painted pop-type art paintings on every wall. The food was very good and prepared in a small kitchen. The wait service did a good job taking care of us as the place got increasingly busy on a Saturday night.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go because of the "limited" menu of 5 entrees BUT definitely happy we went!! Our server was polite and attentive! The music was straight off our own playlist! Definitely recommend!

Come on who doesn't love chicken and waffles? Especially when the chicken is crispy and well seasoned and the waffle is fluffy and served with pecans on top. Certainly I loved it. It is a bar making the Bloody Mary bar, included pickled okra, a nice touch.

Slow service food was over salted and waiter did let us know about any specials. 100 meal for two and worst meal I had in Tuscaloosa.

My favorite place in T-town. The inside has cool chandeliers but it's a bit noisy, so I prefer the patio.

Took us about 1.5 hours to get our seat. We used the time to walk around the area which is worth it if you're new like us; you'll have five minutes to get back once you get your text. We started with the Deviled On The Bayou, see photo, and they were wonderful! Wife had the avocado benny and enjoyed it. I had the Crab Cake Benny, see photo, which was outstanding and I highly recommend! Prices were reasonable, the facility was clean and well presented, and the service was prompt and professional. We'll definitely go again when we're back in town. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

You get plenty of food and I was very surprised that their grits were seasoned! On top of the food being good, the drinks (specifically the mimosa flight) are soooo good. This is more of a family brunch spot but is also great for friends who want to have a good brunch with good spirits. The outside is probably my preferred spot to eat. There isn't much of a view since the parking lot is right in front of the building, but it's cool if you don't want to be around a lot of families with kids. Overall, I definitely recommend if you want to get out and jumpstart your weekend with good food and drinks.

Second trip to River Restaurant starts off on a bad note. We arrived at 10:35 a.m. and the inside…read moredining room was only about half full with several empty tables, and the outdoor seating area, which we specifically requested, also had open tables. Still, we were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. We waited about 35 minutes before seating. Make it make sense. That said, the restaurant sits right along the Black Warrior River, which offers a really pleasant view, especially from the patio. On a cool spring day like today, it's hard to beat outdoor seating here. Tuscaloosa is buzzing with football fans for the annual A-Day spring game, which adds to the energy around town. My better half ordered the shrimp and grits, and I went with the steak fajita bowl, minus the sunny-side-up egg. Even at my age, I can't do the runny yolk situation, I always ask for my eggs over hard. With that change, I'll say the fajita bowl jumped up to one of my top breakfast/brunch go-to dishes in town. Yes, I know it's technically brunch, but it was before 11 a.m., so I'm calling it breakfast. The shrimp and grits were solid, though the tails were still on the shrimp, which meant a bit of extra peeling at the table, my wife wasn't a fan of that part, but she still finished the dish and enjoyed it overall. Only minor gripe on the food side: ice seems to be a rare commodity here, I'd love a few more cubes in the water. But overall, the food was very good, the patio seating is absolutely the way to go, and the river view is fantastic.
