In town for the Ole Miss game, this is one of my moms favorite places so we decided to go for dinner Friday evening! Originally there were 6 of us who arrive at 6 but the 2 1/2 wait proved too long for one of the couples. And then there were 4....and I'm sure glad we stayed! What a great meal!!! Fried green tomato, baked avocado (AMAZING)! Very limited entree selections just so you aren't shocked. Grouper dish (two of us ordered) from the special the evening before was mouth watering good, fried shrimp dish good as well...and the filet was fantastic and cooked perfectly, although a bit on the small side for the price. Special kudos to the hostess who kept us informed and always polite under the circumstances! And special thanks to the 2 bartenders for keeping out glasses full for the 2.5 hour wait! You'll spend $33 on 6 fried shrimp & a 3 Oz piece of pond fish, with a side of cold fries. They put it on the menu as some gulf platter. That's a joke. Then our server was horrible & didn't even describe the size of the fish (I've literally never went anywhere where thy give you less than 6 Oz of fish). I ask for some type of sauce for my fried shrimp... server has no recommendation.. gives me tarter. But she should've recommended the sauce with the burger (or at least described what they had - i like trying different stuff). Then she fails to tell us they charge for each tea ($3 per glass - barely even "sweet".. for a sweet tea). So ended up spending $9 on a tea (one of which we asked for "to go"... you should've seen the size of the Togo cups... half the size of the small glass the $3 tea was originally served in)... all the while i thought was at least $2.50 with refills (as places usually are). Avocado thing (overpriced) & tomatoes are good. But not anything special. Bad experience overall. Won't be back! read more

Horrible service from the hostess bartender and waitress. If you want to wait 27 mins for a drink go here. Also pretty expensive when thinks start adding up just go to Chuck's if you want to drop a check. Also worst gin and tonic I have ever had and I had to wait long for it. read more

I've probably eaten here 4 or 5 times. I've learned that it's best to not go with a large party and football weekends are terrible here bc of the crowds. I went last night with an old friend from college. Great service and delicious food. Fried green tomatoes were great and burger was cooked perfectly. The pineapple cider they offer on draft was refreshing and unique. Definitely recommend when it's not insanely overcrowded. I've never been a burger-eater but this is the ONLY cheeseburger I will eat. It's just so freaking delicious. The fries that come with it are just as good, too. As for starters, the Uptown Chicken & Smoked Tuna Dip are seriously to die for! My mouth is watering just reminiscing about it. Drinks are always on point. The thing I hate about Yelp is everyone thinks they're a NY Times food critic. The point of the review is to explain what to expect when you go there, and compare apples to apples. A bar and grill ain't no 5-star restaurant. That said, this Shrimp Gumbo was incredible and would hold its own to any place. It was so good I forgot to take a photo, which is for the best because gumbo doesn't exactly look appetizing if you've never tasted it. Service was good and the sweet tea was the only sweet tea I've ever tasted that I actually enjoyed. I only ordered it because I'm not from the south and wanted to try some real southern sweet tea. The food here is incredible, however, the prices are extremely HIGH. Delicious home-cooked meal type of feel, but at what cost?

Had lunch on 11/23/18/ table of four. Our server was extremely slow. Visited our table approximately every 18 minutes. Once food was delivered (58 minutes after we ordered) our salad consisted of romaine lettuce. We brought up our concern with our server who had zero knowledge of the massive recall of any and all romaine lettuce by the CDC. After 15 minutes, the manager finally came to our table to address my concern. He discretely covered up the piece of romaine I placed on the table to show him, very quietly went on to explain they were only using a spring mix. I'm not sure what type of training this manager had but clearly he is clueless that spring mix contains not one but two varieties of romaine lettuce. He never offered to correct this issue or take the item off the bill. The entire experience has left me questioning the intentions of this restaurant that would rather make a buck while putting customers at risk rather then pulling any possible contaminated food. read more

Overpriced but good! I had a jalapeno margarita and the paneed chicken. Drinks were a great deal ($5 for happy hour), and the chicken was very good. Only wish it had more sauce on it! It was a fair amount of food too-I couldn't finish it all. As somebody on a budget, I don't think I'd come back though unless somebody else were paying. You do get a lot of food (chicken, salad, and mashed potatoes) and it was yummy, but I wouldn't say it was mind-blowingly good. I did like the vibe of the restaurant- it had almost a vintage, jazzy feel and is a hip place for a town like Tuscaloosa. Would be great for a date or dinner before a night out! read more

But the food is NOT good and the management staff seem like they don't know what they're doing, more concerned with looking cool than running a good restaurant. the coffee shop is the best part of this restaurant, a hidden gem in town. I just dined at Five with some friends. I've enjoyed their food before but my friends hadn't liked their previous experiences. So I was hoping that Five would redeem itself. Unfortunately we all left disappointed. It's not that the food was bad. We actually all enjoyed our choices. But the service we received was terrible. We were quoted a wait time of 20 to 25 minutes "at most", which for Five's usual crowd is not bad. 50 minutes later, we still weren't seated. After speaking to the hostess, she had issues finding out name on the list, but once she did, we were assured that we would be seated next. Once we were finally seated, we waited another 10 to 15 minutes to see our waiter. As it was ladies night we wanted to continue with drinks and the advertized free chips and salsa. Our waiter informed us "if we have any I'll try to bring them out". We viewed other tables being served chips but our waiter forgot our order until reminded a 2nd time. When our food arrived, one of orders was incomplete and it took another 10 minutes for the remainder of the order to arrive. No explanation was given. I had also ordered a burger to go and was assured that the order was put in when the majority of our meal had arrived at our table. However, it was 15-20 minutes after paying our checks that I actually received the to go order. Again, the food itself as usual was good. The service I've had before has never been great, but this experience was just the pits. read more

I used to love Five, but two of the last three times I have gone here, getting brunch has turned into a two and a half hour ordeal because of how slow and awful the service was. This last time I went, it took an hour and a half for our food to come out and it was served cold. They also charged $8 for drinks that had been listed for $5, which took a long time to correct, which was awful because we thought we were finally going to be able to leave. I don't know if they got a new chef or manager or something, but Five just isn't being ran the way it used to. There are only five items on the menu, how they hell can it possibly take you an hour or more to serve a customer? read more

In town for work, FIVE was the first spot I checked out when I got to town. The bartender, Mitch, was super friendly and directed me toward the burger, which was super tasty. The bacon relish on top is a great addition. I opted for extra of the house salad in place of french fries, and the house salad is super good- blackberries, goat cheese, etc. It's a great local spot to hit for dinner and drinks. read more

The food here is across the board impressive. Their brunch, lunch and dinner menus are all limited as many people have noted, but the limitation is to create a highlighted menu of only quality food. In my experience, the only problems are the service. It seems many of the staff are either recent turn-overs or just "get by" with apathy. Recently, I was treated to a server named Paul who was either lost, or was a gift from God to Five. Paul was professional, kind and had the general qualities anyone wants their waiter to possess when dining. Five has a lot to offer to a college town environment, but their management have a misguided view of importance on hiring/training their wait staff. I will eat here again for the food, but to be clear there is a short limit for how many times food can eclipse the feeling of being snubbed by someone you are paying. read more

The music and people can be a little loud when it's packed but that doesn't bother me, so no big deal. It's a hip place with paintings of Bukowski, etc... on the wall. I also like that there are only five options on the menu as opposed to getting a novel to read (Cheesecake Factory). I lived in Ttown from 2010-2013. Five's jazz brunch had just become "a thing" around that time. And, it was AMAZING! I brunched there practically every Sunday! Fast forward to Sunday, September 30, 2018: My first time back and I was so excited to take my daughter and mom to the place they have heard me rave about forever and it was a HUGE let down. First, we were told there would be a 20-30 minute wait, which I didn't believe to begin with so I will spare you those details. Plus, at this point, I'm remembering the Five of yesteryear so I've convinced myself and family it's all totally worth it. Once we are seated, we are greeted by our waitress who is nice but terribly distracted by the tons of other tables she is working in addition to ours. It took forever to get drinks. The musician was okay, but the whole vibe was just...off. Service was slow...and after over and hour of waiting for our food, it finally arrived only to be cold. I mean seriously? How do you have five menu items and haven't perfected this by now?!? I also noticed parties who came in AFTER us get their food and leave BEFORE us. But they also had a different server so Idk. Attended 5 bar recently for a nice, relaxing Sunday Brunch. The food was fantastic.....but were not here to talk about that. We only care about the water, the most crucial beverage in the world. Your water says a lot about what else you're gonna be bringing to the table. REVIEW: tasted pretty neutral, probably a solid ph level, but the lack of ice was concerning.
