Absolutely love this place an absolute must for Tuscaloosa visits! I go to school at UA and this is a bi-weekly visit. They only have Five things on the menu (hence the name), so five appetizers, five entrees, and five drinks. However the bar does make other drinks. There's also a coffee shop that serves smoothies and some food items on the other side of the restaurant. One off menu item you must order is the "Uptown Salad". It's their signature salad with uptown chicken on top. The salad has goat cheese and a wonderful dressing. The chicken is breaded and reminds me of an orange chicken type deal but the sauce is different. The burger is AMAZING and has a great bacon relish (comes with fries and the salad so a great deal for only $16)! All the appetizers are wonderful; the baked avocado is unique. read more

when I walked into this place, my expectations were not very high. there were not many people there, except for the bar which may be a little skeptical at first, but we were hungry. we sat down and had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan who took care of us and made all of the recommendations including the uptown chicken which is an absolute must. in fact, I liked it so much that I asked for sauce on the side for my cheeseburger and fries. I know the reviews here average about a four, but I have to give it a five just based on the simplicity of the menu, the service, and the two items that I ordered. I also had a margarita which was on point. however I did make a change to the recipe and asked him not to put pineapple in it. Fool me once.... If you read my previous review, you're wondering how I could fall for this AGAIN. What can I say, I love the food here. But I absolutely hate the fact that they basically lie to me about the wait time on game weekends. We were told 45 minutes. Been here 1.5 hrs, and there are still 7 parties ahead of us. Unsure why this restaurant doesn't have 5 stars but I was blown away and by pretty simple options (that they also modified to be gluten free for me!!) AND I got it delivered by crimson2go I got the smoked tuna dip with veggies instead of pita, the farmhouse salad with gulf catch & the side of veggies. And everything was outstanding!!! I brought my parents on a Sunday night and the service was excellent. My waitress did a fabulous job recommending drinks and making us feel at home. Uptown chicken - Delicious and saucy. It's not spicy at all like the description says. Seafood rigatoni had some scallops and shrimp. There wasn't as much as I hoped but the pasta was incredible. I haven't had a carb day in years and I regret nothing. The ribeye was delicious. It was plenty to share between two people. Even though we ordered medium, the steak came out more rare and tasty. Pros: A visually interesting, hip, and attractive place to dine! Food and drink were great, the avocado appetizer and bread pudding dessert were extraordinary! Staff was friendly and our server was attentive at least early on. Cons: It is very loud. And they have those two-top tables that they literally space an inch from the next table so you're essentially at the same table which is very annoying, unless the other people are having a conversation interesting enough to eavesdrop on!Also the service grew slower as the evening went on and at one point we were completely overlooked when we'd been done for a while and were waiting to order dessert. Five Bar was a highlight on a weekend in Tuscaloosa! We did head here on a busy Friday night with a party of 10. It was not our best choice with a large party, but it was a good pick. There were a few tables by the bar that we took over until our table was ready. They a simple menu that makes decisions a bit easier. I was a bit worried about my dad and I finding gluten free options but were met with 3-4 options that we could order. They certainly knew what they were doing for gluten free folks in the party. 8 of 10 in our party ordered the burger (and yes they have gluten free buns). Due to the long wait, we inhaled our food when it did come. The other two in our party ordered the chicken dish. Everyone's meal came with a side salad and fries. All was delicious and well prepared. When ESPN gives it a shout out as a place to eat - you know it is solid. Had great items - avocado toast and burgers were a notch up. Great bar and feel to the restaurant. Downside - game day weekend forget about it. Can not find parking and the place is impossible to get into. If you can visit during a non game day weekend you will find plenty of older co Ed's that know how good the place is. We went back today hoping for a better experience but it was more than 45 minutes from the time we ordered food until it was served. Five Bar is a cool and lively atmosphere. I tried a couple of the jalapeño margaritas, and they are some of the best margz I have ever had! Five bar is a great restaurant to go to if you enjoy overpaying for mediocre food and service. There are only 5 main meals on the menu, yet the cooks are unable to cook them correctly. I have had 2 experiences at Five; brunch and dinner, and both were unpleasant. I had the $32 ribeye for dinner and had the $19 steak and eggs for brunch. The ribeye was a mediocre cut, it was mostly fat surrounding it and the steak was undercooked. My mother who was with me also had the ribeye and her's was a tiny cut and was badly overcooked The $19 steak and eggs were mediocre. The eggs and hashbrowns were fine, however the steak was tiny and overcooked. You can go to Waffle House and get a comparable steak and eggs meal for $9. Five Bar is the epitome of the mediocre local restaurant scene in Tuscaloosa. 90% of restaurants here are overpriced and overrated, yet people still give them business. Its about time the city of Tuscaloosa let these sub-par establishments go out of business. read more
