Let's take a trip down memory lane. I was 20 years old. My particular skill set (or lack thereof) had led me down the path of obtaining a Communications degree as an undergrad in the Steel City. Had I known at the time a degree in communications was the equivalent of a participation award in the real world, I would have totally exerted the extra 8% of energy it took to obtain a BA in business or one of the many other degrees that is applicable to - oh, how do you say - ah yes, succeeding in life. But I ask you this, business grads, could you have handled the onslaught of CLASS PRESENTATIONS that us Comm majors endured?! I DON'T THINK SO. Ok, maybe you could have. I'm just lamenting my choice of degrees. I have a fear of public speaking for god's sake. HMM.. WHAT'S A GOOD MAJOR FOR PEOPLE WHO HATE SPEAKING PUBLICLY?! Why, Communications, of course! Uh, where was I going with this? Oh right, the Five Guys tie-in. So I was young and new to city life. I didn't have a lot of direction. All I knew was I liked burgers. So when my super advanced marketing class that guaranteed I'd find an AWESOME JOB AND WOULDN'T DIE DESTITUTE IN A DITCH asked me to do a complete marketing campaign on any company of my choosing, I went with Five Guys. There was a location in Oakland, right on campus that I'd walk by everyday from my SWEET SWEET apartment in Bouquet Gardens on my way to the Cathedral of Learning. I don't know if it's even there anymore. But I chose Five Guys for my marketing project because I thought it was this intimate, local brand unique to Pittsburgh. I legit thought it was a standalone restaurant that had one location. BOY WAS I WRONG. I got called out immediately two minutes into my presentation. All I could do was throw my hands up and plead ignorance. Had to explain to them that I was from the eastern part of the state where Five Guys had never before existed. Boy, that was fun. On one hand I felt like a complete fool who had lived my entire life up to that point in a bubble of ignorance. But on the other hand, I did get a really good ACTUAL single-location local burger joint recommendation from my classmates MID-PRESENTATION, mind you (Tessaro's, for anyone wondering). Ok, back to the topic at hand. And we gotta address the elephant in the room when it comes to Five Guys - price. $11 for a burger is a lot, no doubt. And $9 for a hot dog? No.. just no. Let's face it, unless it's like a 12" dog with massive girth, paying $9 for a hotdog isn't worth it. Five Guys is always going to fall between fast food and sit-down casual dining in terms of price and quality. Does Red Robin have better burgers? Eh, maybe. But it also requires you to eat at Red Robin. And trust me, no one wants to go down that dark path. One positive is they've been super cool by offering free delivery for the past, oh, I dunno, 7 months or so? That's when I first noticed it, anyway. That's not something many restaurants have done. MOD Pizza offered free delivery for about a week in January. Got me hooked on it. Then never offered it again. Thanks, MOD! Stingy bastards. If you are EVER craving a burger, Five Guys has to be one of the first places that pops in your head. Fast food burgers at McDonald's and Wendy's are slowly creeping up to Five Guys prices. I mean, for real for real, a Wendy's Dave Double or whatever the hell it's called is about $8 now. McDonald's is even worse. Burgers going for $9 at Micky D's? OH, HELL NAW. That's when that $11 burger at Five Guys doesn't seem so bad. And it comes with two patties and unlimited FREE toppings. That's where you get your money's worth. Seriously, if you are craving no-frills burger and don't want to take a second mortgage out on your house, then by all means, any fast food dollar menu will do. But if you're a topping addict like me who goes absolutely hog-wild on adding an obscene amount of fresh ingredients such as sautéed mushrooms & onions, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, green peppers, AND MORE, then Five Guys has got to be the way to go. read more

I ordered three burgers and two large fries tipped $3 for a to-go order on 1/5. They didn't dump any fries in the bag. The large fries were merely topped off. I usually get the same amount of fries in one large fry order. This branch manager is either cheap or the employees want to be lazy and short my fries to fill the following order. I'm not tipping here again- let alone ordering rip-off large fries from this branch/location. Maybe it's a PA thing because I've encountered cheap franchise owners at a previous location who stated that dumping fries is not mandatory, but I was still able to get a full refund. I'm not calling anyone about this order. I'm going to leave this review instead. This cheap fry situation doesn't happen in the NJ or CT locations I frequent. I cant tollerate employees acting like the company's bottom dollar affects their hourly wage.... But my tips do. read more

Im not going to lie this was my first time walking in , they attended me fast as i got in there very respectful you can tell they keep it clean, i am concerned about the soda machines where you have literally the syrup deipping into your cup, despite the massive leak on the beginning of the store , honestly the food is great but the place itself needs work read more

5 stars for the burgers. Always. 3 stars for the fries. To me they are just OK and typically too well done. I also don't prefer fries with the skin still on. What really is a drag is the noisiness of this place. Industrial, metallic, whatever you want to call it, it's friggin' loud in here! Perhaps turning down the music several notches would help. The aluminum chairs (painted to look like wood) screech across the slate floor like nails on a chalkboard. I haven't been here since before covid. Back then I was always happy with the burgers even if I thought they were pricey. Today I got the cheeseburger (which is a double patty), whatever they call the smallest order of fries, and whatever they call a small soda. It was $17.78. Don't get me wrong - I will certainly pay premium prices for a premium product. The problem is that Five Guys may ultimately price themselves right out of existence. Worse, to keep prices down they could start using cheaper ingredients. In any event, this burger, fries, and a drink were $5 more than my meal the other night at Red Lobster. And there I had a real meal with cheesy biscuits, a real baked potato, shrimp, and a side salad. $12.95. This location is right around the corner from me and I finally decided to try it out. I placed a rather large order online. Ordering online was so quick and simple. They do require credit card information, which is understandable. When I entered the restaurant I was greeted by the friendly staff. It was very clean. I told them I had an online order and they dropped my fries immediately. I think it's great that they wait until you are there so they don't get soggy or too cold. When I got my food home it was cooked to perfection and my entire order was right. I ordered 3 large fries which could have fed more than an army. They weren't overly greasy. The bacon cheeseburger was really good and filling I ordered 3 bacon cheeseburgers, 3 large fries, 1 hotdog and 1 small cheeseburger. My total was $50. To be honest I don't find that too bad for the amount of food you're getting. read more

Let me start off by expressing myself with this location. It was roughly around 9:50 PM when I called the store to place an order. It was my first time and I was told that I must try five guys. Decided to place an order and make my way to this location. As I approached the location, I was the only customer in there since it was close to 10:00 and they were closing. While I walk in there was the Grill Man Expert on the grill. His name was Collin I believe and his manager was on duty as well. Collin took great care of me and explain every small detail about this place and what value they had. Let's get to the good part, the burger was AMAZING..... I also decided to get a Hot Dog; which was great as well but its nothing like my favorite; Nathans .... but good still. Where to start? The place looked clean on the inside. The person running the register was helpful and friendly. The food. It's burgers and fries. Liked that you could put whatever on it from a list. The fries were fresh. Now here's the thing. I normally do not eat red meat (burgers). You get your food in a brown bag with the grease and oil soaking through. Got home to find a sloppy burger mess. Burger sat like a rock in my stomach for two days. Not my idea of a good burger. Must say though, the place does pull in a crowd. Last, the price. Five Guys is taking over the eastern seaboard, and for good reason. Every Five Guys you visit is the same: hot, juicy burger with fresh toppings and fantastic boardwalk style fries. Well, the same as far as the quality food goes. Since Five Guys is branching out so much, you see them popping up in different kinds of locations. What I really like about this location is its open-air dining. It's got a sort of post-apocalyptic feel to it, sort of like a really hip cafe would have been in Dresden, Germany in the spring of '45. read more

This five guys is just like the other ones that I have been to around the area. The service is great and so are the burgers and fries. There are so many toppings to choose from that many places don't offer like sauteed mushrooms or onions and jalapenos. The fries are fried in peanut oil and piled in the bag which makes both quality and quantity perfect. The only slight downside is that this place is always packed around meal times and sometimes the wait is a little long. But hey, what do you expect when the place is so good. read more

burgers are the greasiest Ive ever had, fries are hit or miss, sometimes nice and crispy other times limp and mushy. Super overpriced for what you get also.They yell at you as soon as you walk in, my wife and I were confused and almost walked out. One of the people working there had her pants down below her butt and we could see her underwear, and apparently this person was the manager. Imagine that. Made a complaint on the website as we were sitting in the place. 20 minutes later the "manager" that had her pants down called me explaining there yelling policy. Food is the same five guys quality as any other five guys but I usually ask for two bottom buns or the cheeseburger cut in half and put on a hot dog bun. The other five guys on Fifth street have no problem with this request, however the manager at this location rudely told me that they can't do that, and that it is against company policy or some nonsense, the next time I came I asked for the same thing and the manager erupted on me as if I asked for some crazy request. When I am always there is no wait and I can get my food right away. It is a fast service and it is a great place just to eat junk food. They give me extra fries to eat so I can eat more. I just like a plan cheeseburger with out anything on it. read more
