Overall experience is that they are overpriced for the quality of the burger. The service was great and the gentleman that took our order was very attentive to ensure he capture everything correctly. I had the mini bacon burger and added mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes. The burger was soggy and the bread was not holding up with the burger. The burger was just ok, the bacon was not crispy. The fries were nice and crispy and there were plenty of fries for a regular size. The average price for a meal is about $24 if you a small burger (not the regular burger), regular fries and a drink. This is definitely one of the better Five Guys establishments that I have been to. I'll start off the negative, the only reason I'm dinging it a star is because of the price. 7.19 for a Bacon Cheese Dog is pretty high in my opinion, for most of us Chicagoans we're use to hot dogs that are in the range of 2.50 - 5.00 bucks for hot dogs at other places. Again just dinging it for price when it comes to taste that split dog grilled with that cheese and crispy bacon was fantastic. The french fries I don't know what the craze is about them, I got the cajun version, thought they were good but nothing I'd hype about, my brother seemed to like it a lot. Now when it comes to the burger. My brother and I both got Bacon Cheeseburgers with various different toppings. He got his with Jalapenos, onions, mayo, and mustard. I got mine with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, mayo and a1 steak sauce. Both burgers were phenomenal but I just don't see myself spending almost 10 bucks on a burger (9.69) without it including fries when at sit down places I've spent that much and it typically includes fries or something else. I'd still come back and treat myself another time or two within the year but don't see it as a burger place I'd visit often just because the price. Customer service, now I had to end it off at this. The employees that were working on 9/31/2019 were off the chain!!!! Tons of energy and overall just brought a good vibe to the atmosphere. Sign me up to hang out with them at a party sometime!!!! My husband and I had never been to a Five Guys and after hearing a lot of good things about it we decided to check this location out. We arrived fairly late in the evening and a few employees were already starting the evening cleaning tasks but the counter employee was welcoming and friendly. He easily answered the questions we had about the menu. We grabbed a table on the small patio outside. Our food was ready very quickly and everything was to our order. The food was good and I do think it is a little better tasting and quality than a regular fast food restaurant. No complaints on burger, I'm new to this part of Illinois, and both customers and some workers were staring at me as if they never saw a brown person. The burgers are more like a greasy, smashed fast-food type, not like the more gourmet type burgers becoming popular among other places, but for under $8 you can grab a little burger and more fries than consumable by one person. Think greasy-spoon post-bar food. That said, I'm not much of a burger person but Five Guys is a welcome addition to the far NW burbs. Not sure where to start on this one. I'll start out by saying the place was clean and the stainless kitchen looked nice. When we walked in we were greeted by 10 eyeballs behind the counter. A bored kitchen staff looking for something to do. As we stepped up to the counter, the group I was with knew exactly what they wanted as they were seasoned veterans of the place. I asked for something that is supposed to be on a secret menu and all I saw was a deer in the headlight look. I tried to explain to the young man taking the order that most places have a secret menu only to see his stare turn into an annoyed look. Get this.... No name tag, no greeting such as " Hello welcome to Five Guys my name is....." After reading the receipt it said Tiffany. Heck it is 2015 and his name could be Tiffany for all I know. Can't judge a book by its cover. $40..00 later we get our drinks and head to the table. I noticed a box of peanuts on top of the garbage can. Thinking to myself are they meant for the garbage or the customers???? They called our number and we retrieved our food from the nameless face behind the counter. Each food item that was in the brown bag had been wrapped in foil and had a number sticker on it, not sure why. After unwrapping each gift wrapped package we were able to claim our culinary delight. Everything was looking good till we opened the last burger and you should have seen the look on the 11yr old face. The sad puppy dog look of disappointment. Where was mine? Tiffany (if that was really his name) was no where to be found nor was the guy that cooked the burgers. Was this trickery? Were we con'd, at this point I was really loosing faith in this place. I took the wrongly prepared burger back to the counter along with my receipt and brought the error to another nameless faces attention. She offered to correct the error by just adding another patty to the single burger (was supposed to have two). I just ask for freshly prepared correction to be brought out the the table. Wow, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this place is TOO FREAKING LOUD! My family and I were excited when we saw a Five Guys would be opening in Crystal Lake. We moved here not too long ago and we'd eaten at Five Guys before and enjoyed it. However, after several visits at this location, we will not be back. The food is fine, that's really not the issue. Although, practically every time we go there they screw up my husband's hamburger and have to make him a new one. The real issue is the NOISE. I don't know who told the employees that constant yelling back and forth is a good way to communicate, but it needs to stop. It's totally unprofessional, disturbing and downright annoying. They yell when you walk in the door, they yell when your food is finally ready and they yell some strange chants to each other just for the sake of yelling, I think. It's utterly ridiculous. The music is usually too loud as well. This isn't a night club. It's a family burger place. I've eaten there many times and seen other people just dumbfounded by all of the yelling and noise going on. So yeah, see ya Five Guys. We're done. Peace out! I'd rather support local places (Georgio's, Duke's, The Cottage, even Finn McCool's) or drive out to Bulldogs to get a burger better. Arrived and ordered two double cheese and bacon burgers and fries. One burger as a lettuce wrap and the other on the bun with grilled mushrooms. Two shakes (chocolate & strawberry) , one coke and one ice tea. Staff didn't even know that what a drink holder tray was when asked for one. After searching and asking around they located these mysterious cardboard holders under the counter top. Next the ice tea tasted like dirty socks... Apparently cleaning and preparing drinkable ice tea is another item along with drink holders 101, that the staff needs some further training on. Lastly, after repeating the order three times when ordering with the Five-Guys "gal" she or the kitchen managed to produce a double bacon cheese burger with onions instead of the requested mushrooms. It isn't the end of the world but from a customer service perspective this place is an epic fail. WHAT how can this place only get 2 1/2 stars?! I'm a Northern Virginia native and was eating Five Guys back when nobody knew who they were. Seriously, the burgers are AWESOME. Yes they are overpriced. But we don't indulge often, so it's alright with us. The burgers are hand formed and fresh, which is more than you can say for your average burger joint. The fries are cut on site, again, not frozen. There's a reason why the walls in this place are plastered with rave reviews, food critic columns, and zagat ratings. ALL those people are wrong?? Been here a couple of times with the family. The burgers are good but I always find them to be VERY greasy. So greasy that they fall apart while eating. The fries are ok. I would rate other items but those are your choices...burger and fries. The price is killer. For the same price the family could eat at a sit down place with tip. I hate that you have to cross the Starbucks drive thru to get to the entrance. Never like playing frogger. The thing that will keep me from coming back is how LOUD the place is. The workers yelling constantly just adds to the music that is already turned to 11. Go the bathroom and you are going to need earplugs. Okay, first off BEST FRENCH FRIES IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE!! Seriously. I don't even know what it is about them (maybe that they're fried in peanut oil?) but the fries are ridiculously good. The burgers are pretty darn good as well but I have a few gripes. First, they are EXPENSIVE for what you get. You'll be paying what you would pay at a much nicer restaurant that likely has higher quality beef. I give the burger a lower grade because it's not all that amazing or flavorful and for just over $10 for a regular burger (no cheese) and a small fry, that burger better be great and this one is just mediocre at best I'd say. What was amazing was the service. I asked my Server's name and it was Andrew (Benson I guess?) and he was top notch. Knew the price of what I wanted before it even rang up. He was pleasant and super accommodating since I asked that my burger be separate from the bun, he packed everything in two containers so I'd have a not soggy meal when I got to my destination. This place has nothing to offer my family. First of all, their beef is nothing special. Plenty of hormones injected with many fillers to their meat. We love Benedict's or Dukes because their beef is grass fed meat which tastes much better - not to mention so much more healthier for you too. Very costly also.
