Sunday "Father's Day... Worst Restaurant Experience! My son and grandson wanted to take me out for a Father's Day lunch and we chose The Chick and the Pig since we never ate there. We got there around 12:30, ordered our food by phone (because there is no wait staff other than a bar tender), pay for the food via phone, and waited a hour only to be told that there was no food left. Customers that came in after us had ordered and ate but not us. Finally my son went up to the kitchen window to ask why we didn't get our food. The kitchen staff told my son "We ran out of food". One would figure that there would have been some type of announcement made instead of leaving us and some other customers hanging but, nobody said a peep. This was the worst experience we've ever had at any restaurant! How can this place even operate without a wait staff and run out of food soon after it opened for the day. It simply was not busy enough to run out of food. Seems to me that the underlying problem is the owner and management. One thing I do know is that I will never go to this restaurant again nor their other restaurant Bold American Fare. So, let me walk you through my experience. We arrived as a party of four and didn't realize it was a fully self-service setup: self-seating, self-ordering, self-pickup, and even self-disposal. Once we figured out where to sit, we had to use our phones to place and pay for our order. That was fine, but since there were four of us, we ordered quite a bit of food because we wanted to try a variety of items- you really can't blame us for that BUT our variety of food contained several "starters" which literally don't even count as appetizers because all the food just comes out at once no matter what. The issue was the wait time. It took about 50 minutes for our food to come out. During that time, I went to the window to ask if we could at least get our drinks first, and I also asked whether any of the food that was already ready could be brought out. I was told no, so we just had to continue waiting for the ENTIRE order. When we finally received our food, it was only room temperature. And what sucks about the wait was we watched them place a lot of our order in the "heater" but I wish we could have got it while it was hot and ready or something... I didn't know that with a big order comes just a huge wait time. On top of that, we didn't even get our complete order- the fried shrimp was missing. What was especially frustrating is that it didn't seem like it was still being cooked; it literally was sitting out, and when I went back up to get it, she just grabbed the forgotten shrimp off the shelf and just gave it to me cold... I'm honestly just disappointed because I really love barbecue, and I'm sure this place could be good if you're only ordering one item. I might have enjoyed it more in a different setting where food came out hot and service was a bit more coordinated. Overall, I just struggled with the full self-service model from start to finish. Mixed review. Walking in is a bit confusing and it is not obvious that it is a 'counter service only' restaurant. Seemed to be staffed appropriately and everyone was friendly but, after receiving our meals, I think additional trained kitchen help was probably needed. Big place with lots of tables. Prices very reasonable. They were out of many items (@ least brisket, onion rings, beans) but they are new and it was a holiday weekend so will give them a pass on that. Chicken wings & fries were stellar. Fried chicken was fresh and delicious but cannot give them a pass on the undercooked breast piece. That was kind of a theme. I've been in customer service all my life and the manager Kaylie was absolutely horrid handling a situation with their absolutely gross dirt pudding. No real apologies and huge chip on her shoulder. Her employee offered me a refund and then I was called the next day and told I could only have a credit. Instead of honoring what her employee told me regardless of her rudely saying it was a 16 year old employee. I spent $100 on dinner for my family and the food was so bland and not even remotely worth the price. My 3 kids wouldn't even eat their soggy fries. The fried pickles were such thick hard breading and only like 4 small ones in the bag. The banana pudding was so artificial tasting like everything is made cheaply. And the whole reason I called was for their Oreo dirt pudding, which takes like sour cream with Oreos crushed on top and crap cool whip. Maybe they have no taste buds. Stay far away. Visited the new restaurant last weekend and they had just opened an awesome bar. The bartender was so nice and recommended our food selection. Bbq special was good and sides were plentiful. Every thing we ordered was just as we loved them. My wife had the Chicago dogs - delicious and cooked just right. I had a burger with rings. It was absolutely wunnerful! The rings were crunchy and tasted like I wish all rings would. I substituted cheddar for American cheese on the burger, was really happy with it. When we got home there were no onion rings only 1 biscuit (should have been 4) no honey butter no hot sauce and no pickles. I returned showing a picture of what was in the bag and was met with resistance (I was checking every order). They did give items that were missing and did apologize. We ordered chop brisket sausage bean slaw and different sauces and chicken wings. Everything was outstanding and so much better than the Texan. This will be the next big BBQ place in Algonquin. The only thing I would recommend is to keep an eye on your wings all of them were under and slightly pink. This will not stop me from ordering again that how good this place is.
