Food was great as in the Palatine location, I grew up eating there as I was a Pirate. I was so excited to discover they had a location 20 minutes from my house. Took my daughters and told them it was the best food in my hs years. Soooo disappointed with the girl at the cashier, she was not only rude but seemed like that was the last place on earth she wanted to be at. Went for dinner with friends. The restaurant was quiet when we got there but busy as it went on. I ordered a southwest chicken pita. It more like chicken taco. It was grilled chicken on pita. With zesty ranch , cheese, pico, jalapeño, was very wet. They might want to drain pico. But good over all. I did not like my fries. Tossed them. Would not ever get the fries. We got take out and the food was made fresh and on time for the take out order. We enjoyed the food, although the falafel sandwich just had 4 in a large pita. We got a mix of sides including curly fries and sweet potato fries which were good. The baclava was very good, sweet abd cinnamon flavored. The chili was flavorable and aromatic. Wow, it has been 10 years since I reviewed this place. I wish I could say it has gotten better, but it's still the same and maybe a little worse. The quality of the food is still high. I love the chopped salad and add gyro meat to it. The salad is so good with the feta and olives that I don't even put dressing on it. The prices however are just way out of line. It's too expensive to feed a family of 5 here. These days, I just spit the salad with my wife, but it comes to over $15. Kosta's has also implemented the shady practice of adding a charge for using a debit card versus cash. If you're a restaurant that is going to do that, please let us know proactively. I didn't see a sign stating the charge, and even if there is one, why not just reflect the increase in price in your menu items? The prices are already high AND you're charging me extra because I'm using debit? I'm feeling very disappointed. read more

We've been here 2X now. Service is always friendly, it's clean, not too crowded, and restrooms were clean & stocked. Our food is always good. We've tried a few different things. The mozzarella sticks, bosco sticks, and sweet potato fries were all great appetizers! Their gyros are delicious & loaded with meat! Huge portion! We were greeted nicely and the guy helped us and answered our questions. The place was very clean and everything well stocked. We each ordered the Greek gyros plate which has double meat. They use fresh ground lamb with their own spice mix to create their own unique flavor profile. Meat is soft, tender and delicious. The onions and tomatoes are nicely sliced on the plate. The tzatziki sauce is creamy and clings nicely to the meat. Order an extra pita and sauce if you order this huge plate. You'll need it (in a good way)! French fries were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We could only eat a few as there was so much meat on our plates! Super generous portions are given here! 1 gyro plate is enough for 2 people easily! I never had a chance to get to the fries. I only got through 1/2 of my plate and there was no room for desert! There are plenty of beef places around here. Stay away from here till they get their act together. Sorry Kostas owner get it together and stop ripping your customers off. Every summer, my daughter and I spend a couple weeks at my moms; we always have Kosta's while we are there. We actually don't live too far from Kosta's, we are on the other side of Algonquin and prefer Chubby's. However, Kosta's has the best Cream of Chicken Rice soup. Hands down, the best. The restaurant is always a little messy, sticky tables and floors but the service is usually pretty good. read more

First time here at Kostas in Algonquin Il. and Wow are they way way overpriced. Two hotdogs, two small drinks and fries that seem like they are frozen from a bag . $25.90 you read it right almost 26.00 I should have walked out when that rung up but we were hungry. How can they charge that for this food? This should have been double dogs . Two beef meals would cost you about 36 or 37 dollars. Portillo's is much better at these prices, better fries better dogs. This is the second time in a row with disappointing dinner from Kosta's. Last time we had one messed up dinner order, so it was excusable. Today we ordered three items: a quart of chili, gyro plate and baklava. First, no baklava in the bag. This is an expensive item to forget! My husband said he thought about opening things up to check, but thought it's only three things so they had it. The chili doesn't taste good - it was always my favorite and I order a big one for a couple of meals worth, so I'm not sure what changed but I'm definitely not excited to eat this again tomorrow. Lastly, the chili was lukewarm at best. We live ten minutes away and my husband came right home. I had to microwave it! Disappointing and expensive. I.always order the gyros. I think of all the places to get a gyro, this place includes the most meat, the best onions/tomatoes and the freshest pita. No question that you get your money's worth here. The fries are very good as well, but I don't get them often because I am so stuffed from the gyro. I've never tried anything else there, but I do want to try their hamburger and Italian beef some day. Great place to at least try once to see if you like it. read more

Always been a big fan of Kosta's Gyros, so that's why we decided to do Kosta's catering for my daughter's first birthday. Selecting the right food for this event had to be excellent because you only get a first birthday once in your life time so it had to be good! My wife an I sat down and decided we wanted to the chicken kabobs, gyros, oven baked greek potatoes, and mediterranean rice. So a week before the party we placed the order with Kosta's cause as you know with a big catering order you need to give the kitchen ample time to order the ingredients, prep it, and then cook it for the party. We went with 7 pounds of chicken kabobs for a total of 56 skewers and 4 pounds of gyro meat, large tray of potatoes, and large tray of rice. The ordering and pick up went without a hiccup. Except they did let us know that if we paid by credit card that there would be a 3.5% credit card fee. Hold up fam, I'll be right down to the restaurant to pay in that green, dinero, bread, coin, bacon, and dough. You ain't gonna get me for an extra 3.5%. The food was done right at the schedule pick up time and now it was time to party! Now, I'd like to add a tale of caution here. Now you may have noticed that so far I've had nothing but good things to say about Kosta's, so then why am I have giving them a 4 star review? Attached to my review, I provided a picture of the chicken kabobs. No where else on Yelp or on Google for that matter has there been a picture of the chicken kabobs and the only person to blame here is me, myself, and I. What I should have done before the party is gone to Kosta's and sampled the chicken kabobs myself. The reason being is that the amount of chicken that comes on each skewer. I was not the only one at the party that made the comment of why there was so little chicken on each skewer, there were several people who commented. The width of chicken on each skewer comes close to a centimeter thick, not an inch thick, but a centimeter. I had no idea that each kabob didn't come with a hunk of meat and that was MY FAULT. So I'm giving everyone else full warning now that's the way Kosta's does their chicken kabobs is like this. Beyond this everything to the rice, potatoes, and gyro was A+ all around by the restaurant and their staff. Overall, everyone was happy and full at the party, even the birthday girl approved of the food and the day after we received many comments as to how good the food was and "what was that restaurant you ordered the food from?" Maybe it would be a good idea for Kostas to include a few business cards so that I could pass them out? But who am I to tell a business owner of what or what not to do? Being in this area we are lucky to have Kostas Gyros in the neighborhood and I hope to have them succeed for many more years to come. Keep up the great work Kostas! read more

I have been coming here since I moved to the area as a young boy 18 years ago. They have been a huge supporter of all the sports leagues around the area, as evidenced by the plaques on the wall and jerseys hanging up. Everything on the menu is delicious. From the burgers ti the beef to even the bosco sticks. The one thing I will always get from now on is the southwest gyro. The meat is delicious and trimmed fresh to order. Prices are a little high, but the portions are huge and we'll worth the prices. My husband and I went here for dinner last night. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance for a fast food restaurant. The service was friendly and fast. We each had a side Greek salad which were very good. My husband had an Italian beef/sausage sandwich which he said was good except the giardinara was too spicy so he didn't use that. The French fries were excellent. I ordered the turkey chili which had a good flavor, but was so spicy that neither of us could eat it. It had big pieces of jalapeño in it which is what made it so spicy. We ended up throwing it away after each taking one bite. My advice is to leave out the jalapeños and offer them on the side. No idea how this place has only 3.5 stars. I love Kostas. It is so convenient and they have fairly healthy options if that is what you are looking for! If you are looking for a quick pickup, you can either call Kosta's or put your order through online. Then you can just go through their drive-through! You don't even have to step foot inside. Their website is great. For healthy options, I love the chopped greek salad. SOOOO GOOD. I also like the "Tuscan Chicken on a pita" (pictured). It so amazing and I always ask for extra bruschetta (at no charge!). For non-healthy options, obviously their gyros are great. Pizza puffs, bosco sticks, fries, etc. Everything is good. Their honey mustard is some of the best I have ever had. Oh, and their chicken and rice soup is FANTASTIC. Ask for some lemon on the side to squeeze into the soup, it adds a nice flavor. When we've had a long day of shopping in Algonquin we usually end up here to grab food to go home. It's the perfect place to meet everyone's needs. Kosta's is normally on point. Tonight we ordered via DoorDash and IDK what happened with tonight's delivery. Let me start with what went well. The gyro contained loads of meat and pizza puff was cooked perfectly. Where things fell short were our two orders of fries. They were both undercooked and overcooked. They also appear to have been cooked in old grease. The fries had a bunch of black particles on them. Our toddler turned them down! Please read the feedback and adjust. You're a great place to eat and this is not our normal experience with your establishment. read more

Ate here a couple times in the past 2 weeks. It was delicious, had 2/3 dbl cheeseburgers, cooked perfect, juicy, cheesy, perfect . Also had gyro sandwich, meat was fresh, plenty of it, sauce was good, onions cut thin, fresh tomatoes, and the pita was great, soft,warm, fresh . Ordered fries both times, and they were also cooked to perfection. This will be my new go to place instead of Portillo's , since they can't get out of there own way ! Stopped for lunch on Saturday. Ordered 2 Gyro plates. Took a lot home. Meat was great, good sized portions. The booths were neat and clean as well as the drink machine area. My husband & I love Kosta's. Hands down, I believe Kosta's makes THE best cheeseburgers in the Chicago suburbs...and I consider myself a cheeseburger connoisseur. The interesting thing about Kosta's is that the main "food attraction" is their gyros, which my husband loves. I, on the other hand, am there for their amazingly awesome cheeseburgers. I consider myself a cheeseburger connoisseur... so I tend to remember a great burger. The absolute BEST burger I've ever had was in Austin, TX at a great little place called "The Bricks". Kosta's burgers come in at a close second. If your cheeseburger isn't running down your arms to your elbows? Then that is a boring burger. read more

Worst customer service ever! I ordered a bowl of soup last week paid for it, got home and it was a cup! I called in to speak to someone and I spoke to a man. He told me next time I was in to come in and get a credit. I go tonight to get soup expecting to pay the difference. The kid I spoke to made me feel like I was trying to get away with something. He went on to tell me he had Covid and he was the only one working last week! Well if you have Covid why are you working around food and people. We have lived near Kosta's for as long as it's been there. Over the course of that time, I don't think I have ever had anything bad or where they screwed up our order. We have eaten in, got our order to go and it is always solid. Now, have I had a better gyro elsewhere? Yes. Have I had better burgers or hot dogs elsewhere? Yes. But overall, always solid tasting food. I like all of the options on the gyro and chicken sandwiches. They are all excellent. Kosta's always delivers delicious food. Are the prices in line with everywhere else? Yes, it's pricey, but where is it not? I arrived and say people sitting inside eating. Kosta's, you need to keep you information up to date. No pick up place found so I went in to pick up my food. Mind you it's 10 min before I requested the food to be ready. I mentioned the web information was incorrect and got shrugged shoulders and the "ain't my job" look.
