I had never been to Five Guys before. I was suprised to be so disappointed! I found the burger bun & meat to be dull - barely better than Wendy's(!) from what I can remember. I did not expect a burger as superb as those found at the best steakhouses, but I certainly expected something with a decent beef pattie and a decent bun. The hot dog was ridiculously mediocre for $4. I could see that it would not be char-grilled, but I had hoped that this relatively pricey hot dog would have more snap; again, the bun was utterly low-grade. Not much to add about this location-it lives up to the standards you'd expect from Five Guys. I will say this location is pretty large compared to the one in my neighborhood and actually seemed slightly more organized [at least during the lunch rush, our food was done fast]. The burgers are delicious... definitely one of my favorite burgers in Jacksonville. You can get a small burger, which I recommend, or the regular, which is misleading and is really two patties. Then you choose from a large assortment of toppings. I usually get cheese, pickles, and LTO. The standard cheese burger. MMM MMM. The fries are also awesome, hand cute from potatoes right there in the joint. If your out in that in-between area between the beach and downtown, don't forget about this place. I've not been to a Five Guys in a few years. Like most people, I ended up here because I was craving a "better than fast food" burger. Today was a rare opportunity to get some quality one on one time with my teenage son. I figured what better was than to take it back old school. I used to take him to 5 guys in Mandarin every Friday as a ritual after school when he was just a kid- we had great times! I was really looking forward to a fun time. Well, we had fun but not really because of the food. The whole experience had changed. The secret sauce was gone. The whole loud enthusiastic greeting, the engaging employees- the employee banter, the noise, the whole 5 guys experience was muted. There was nothing lively going on here. It's not that anyone was crabby, the crew just didn't have any vitality or energy and that energy really translates into a tangible good at 5 guys. You don't realize it's missing until it's gone. We were only one of two tables early Sunday lunch. The restaurant wasn't busy. Our food took about 10-15 minutes to get. The burgers were good, not the phenomenal burger I'd remembered. The fries were soggy and lukewarm. They were saturated with peanut oil and had very little salt. I was kinda disappointed honestly. I figured everything was going to be super fresh as to how it was early and empty. For 3 burgers, 2 drinks and a large fry it was $38+. That is a lot of money for two people eating burgers and sharing fries. For that price it should have been especially good. It wasn't, I still don't understand how nothing was really piping hot. The cheese was not melted and the burger wasn't hot enough to melt it no matter how long it was wrapped in foil. So, summary- I definitely won't be back, at least at this location. I used to frequent the Mandarin location and River City location and the Urbana location quite a bit some years ago. I don't know what's changed but it definitely isn't worth $38 for lunch. You can get a burger at most of the expensive restaurants in the city for that much money. Furious at this place today. Reasons 1) Order taker took advantage of preteens with Mom's credit card 2) $30 for 2 preteens and a mom lunch wouldn't be outta the question except that the burgers were PUNY and the "lettuce wrappings" were even PUNIERseriously I've eaten gluten free at 5 guys before but if you plan to take out, DON'T. I repeat DON'T. Apparently if they don't have to face you with your lettuce wrapped burger they find it sufficient to put 1 piece of iceburg on each side 3) A customer satisfaction survey on the ticket would have allowed me to direct my concerns directly to 5 Guys...BUT...this substandard restaurant doesn't even have the store ID set up properly. AA-0000 must be the default. Therefore -- my review for all YELPERS to see. This place is not up to standard nor is it passable for me in the future. And back to #1. I prefer their cajun seasoned fries to the regular ones. Only complaint I have is that it is always very loud, but they do have outdoor seating to avoid that, as long as the weather's decent. I've always been a fan of 5 guys but as of late I dont understand what the deal with allowing people to bring their non-service dogs in the restaurant and stay while they eat. The dog had to go to the bathroom so they at least took it outside, right out the front door to crap in the small landscape island. Just what I wanted to watch while I eat. I love five guys so much and I never have any complaints when I go there. Yesterday I went for lunch and the manager working was absolutely phenomenal! He was so energetic and made all the customers enjoy their time and laugh at his humor. I even overheard one customer say while he was walking out "I love that guy."
