This location was closed for renovation for a while, but it has reopened and now has milkshakes!

I wouldn't do much for a Klondike bar, but for Five Guys fries? Look out. This location is in a tired strip mall on 30, but the restaurant doesn't look as run down as the rest of the shops, and its parking lot is always hopping. Food is consistent and you can't beat the options for either a burger or hot dog. The Hubs has a gluten allergy, so we've long frequented Five Guys and opted for the lettuce wrap/bun-less burger, but they're one of the few chains that actually has a separate grill for the burgers -- most places toast their buns on the same grill as they cook the meat, and for someone with a true allergy (not just a low-carb preference), that cross contamination can lead to unpleasant consequences. For COVID, they have easy online ordering or call-ahead, and they used to text you and bring the food out to your car -- they had a few parking spaces closest to the entry way reserved for pick-up customers -- but the last time we visited, those parking signs had been removed. Staff is friendly and courteous and always quick to help if there's a dirty table or condiment missing from the condiment bar (next to the soda machines). The cleanliness sometimes gives me pause -- not so much the tables as the soda machines. There's usually a lot of sticky residue and ice melt/splash on and around the machines, so it makes it hard to tell whether they're cleaned frequently or if people are just that slovenly. Bathrooms are another cleanliness point -- the few times I've had to use them, they've been pretty gross. Now I know to go before I stop by for lunch or dinner.

"All the way"- they'll stuff it good for you!

Very tasty fries, I got a cheeseburger with free toppings, it was ok, not the best burger I ever had.

They do this mystery beer thing which is just a cheap beer but it's fun and feels on brand for the place. Food wise the beef tips are the move. I would honestly go back just for that. Good spot overall.

But awesome all the same! For how busy they were, the server was very attentive and very accommodating as we were yapping away and constantly not ready with our orders so kuddos for the team and putting up with us! I love the mystery beer concept, its not great beer, but being from DC at like $2 a can, I am not passing that up, ever. And a cheap beer with a burger is the perfect combo! On to the burger... I have heard that this is a great burger... and I have to conclude that I agree though it is reminiscent of a Big Mac - just way better ingredients - it has to be the sauce they put on it... Anyway, nice size patty, good amount of toppings and a quality bun (not too soft, not too thick, bread soaks up some of the juices but doesn't fall apart). The mussels were quite excellent as well. It was a Thai curry broth the night we were there and it was drinkable, like soup... we did ask for extra bread... enough said. I am going to take a minute too and praise their spirit free cocktails. THIS IS HOW THEY SHOULD BE MADE. They used bitters, tonics, etc to craft something that tasted like a cocktail but without alcohol which means they were not sickly sugary concoctions, but expertly crafted beverages. Just really great options. All that said though, their espresso martini was one of the worst I have had. Just skip that.

This was my 2nd time coming to Mad Chef!…read more The first time I came here was about 2 years ago (before doing yelp reviews). I was not very impressed. This time around I cannot complain! Their specials are all revolving around the Masters which was unique! We tried the Pimento, Fried Green Tomato, Chicken Sandwich (The Pimento Birdie). This was a delicious sandwich that just screams Georgia! We also tried the Madfather Chicken Sandwich! Pesto, Vodka Sauce, Mozzarella, this thing was outstanding! The fries are always a highlight here! We got the bucket (had a bigger group) and it came with 3 sauces. 1 tiny little knock on the fry bucket....the entire bucket was not filled with fries. The bottom of the fry bucket had about an inch or 2 of crinkled up paper..... All of the food was outstanding. The beer was good. Tons of space and seating. Very easy ordering process. Go up to the counter, tell them your table number, and your food arrives shortly! Prices are high here! Expect a larger number on your check if consuming both food and alcohol!

Big Sigh... An attempt to create something good, unsual, but…read morenot only falls short in doing so, the inflated prices were enough for you to rethink your groceries for the week. Maybe what I smelled upon walking inside Mad Chef, were hops; I'm unsure. There was a lingering, unpleasant scent (hay/old peanut shells, an earthy staleness). When my food arrived, the scent dissipated. I purposely took a picture of the fish, on my fried fish sandwich, to illustrate what $17 and some change, looks like - very thin. The fish fry was tasty, slightly undercooked, soft crusted and soft bun, fresh condiments and those "pickles" were stellar. They were the best part of my meal. I would seriously purchase a jar of those pickles. Was wary of how hot honey would mesh with a pepperoni pizza, but surprisingly, the sweet heat and the savoriness of the pepperonis, worked well together. The only miss and it's a pretty big "miss," was the paper thin, tasteless crust, acting only as a vehicle to hold the toppings. Suggest you improve the crust and then, you'll have a stellar pie. Loved the peach bread pudding with brown sugar ice cream, but once again, for the price; the portion was skimpy. Liked the touch of homemade whipped cream, but it was overly whipped (stiff and tasteless), making it actually, impalatable.
