I'm not sure why everyone is head over heels for this place. It's not unique. It's like any other of the numerous Buddha Bowl places popping up all over the place. And why market itself as Brazilian? The one thing on the menu that was Brazilian, the Feijoada, they ran out of. Thats like Taco Bell running out of tacos. The bowl is loaded with rice and it hardly had any chicken. The taste was meh. Where are the spices. And they have "tomato vinaigrette". I'm from Texas. I know pico de gallo when I see it. If you want to be ethnic why not call it by its ethnic name. Oh and then they ran out of iced tea and noone looked like they were attempting to rectify it. When this place gets some competition in Missoula it won't be around for long. read more

If this place was in California, I'd go twice a week. You get a bowl...I got regular, and it was huge. Can opt for white or brown rice on the bottom, then pick your protein, then toppings etc. Spicy coconut was a winner. I can't remember what the green sauce is called, but it was great. Nice little stop for lunch. Limited choices (white rice or brown rice, chicken or beef) but in some ways, it's probably easier on patrons than the plethora of choices in California that we're used to. Kid Bowl is reasonably priced at $4. Though for cattle country, I would say the amount of protein they give for a kid's bowl is way too small compared to the amount of rice. Was passing through Missoula and didn't expect to find a Brazilian Chipotle-style place. Love the quick serve concept. Food was tasty and good value. South side location: Was my go-to place for lunch and have never been disappointed. Today was an exception. I ordered a large Feijoada Brazilian Stew and my bowl was 90% brown rice and the remainder was some stew broth and the other fixings I ordered. Very disappointed. I decided to pick up a lunch bowl because I was curious to try this popular Brazilian eatery in the heart of downtown Missoula. This turned out to be a delicious and filling surprise. The concept is easy - follow steps 1 to 5 to customize your bowl (small $6; regular $8) Step 1: Base - white rice, brown rice, or crisp greens Step 2: Dish - beef, chicken, tilapia, roasted veggies, or feigoada (stew) Step 3: Sides - coconut sweet potatoes, steamed collard greens or black beans Step 4: Sauce - mango bbq or spicy coconut Step 5: Toppings (pick three) - chunky tomato vinaigrette, farofa, lime wedge, spicy chimichurri or cilantro The food is behind the window where you can see the staff make it in front of you. For my bowl, I picked: half brown rice and crisp greens (bad idea if you like wilted veggies), chicken, coconut sweet potatoes, mango bbq sauce (on the side). For my toppings, I tried the spicy chimichurri, cilantro and for the first time farofa which is a special type of ground flour. The Brazilian flavored choices made this a unique meal rather than your typical lunch bowl. My combination was satisfying and the appropriate price for the amount served. I wasn't too impressed when the staff pointed out the roasted veggies. Also, I recommend to ask for the sauce on the side because it can overtake all flavors from the fresh ingredients. They let me sample the sauce before I committed. I ordered two pao de queijo (cheese rolls) but I was quite disappointed with them because they were bland compared to my favorite ones at Fogo de Chão. The upbeat music was streaming at a comfortable level. If you decide to eat in, they have ample seating for individuals and groups. The tables along the window will allow you to eat and people watch. Street parking is available but make sure not to visit on Sundays because they are closed. Five on Black is definitely on my return list! read more

It seems like yet another iteration of the overdone Chipotle concept: have a bowl of food assembled in front of you. I'd characterize this place more as a Brazilian-themed Baja Fresh. I like Baja Fresh but I don't love it, and similarly this gets 4 stars but not 5. It's a great college-town idea: cheap, fresh, fast. You throw in a base of rice or salad, add meat (not enough in my opinion), then a sauce, then a side, then three toppings. Does that sound like too much for one bowl? It is. I got coconut sweet potatoes as the side, which sounds awesome in theory, but ends up losing to the flavor of the chicken and the sauce. Why isn't the side kept on the side? The toppings seemed a bit much; I probably could have been happy with two. One of the toppings is a spicy chimichurri. A, I thought that's Mexican, and B, you already gave me a sauce, so why are you now offering another one? So that's the lowest point for me, the organization of the ingredients. I'd also say that the food itself isn't Brazilian, but I knew that going in. It's Brazilian _inspired_. Some of the ingredients have Portuguese names, but they're regular American food in the end. You won't get lost trying anything new here. Even the Brazilian cheese bread is just regular American (or less salty Americanized Italian) fare. If you can get past that, you'll enjoy a good meal for cheap. The service is wonderful, with very helpful, patient, and friendly staff. I can see why the reviews have this place off to a great start. The atmosphere was energetic and the crowd was young / college age. I had a 'regular' bowl with the Feijoada, white rice, spicy coconut sauce and the sweet potatoes. Yum! Plenty of soda choices. Cons: Some of the staff weren't patient when explaining the options. There was only one bathroom for guests, and the music was a bit loud. Since there is outside seating, that might not be an issue for most. I would highly recommend this place, especially if you're passing through Missoula and you want something delicious! read more

One of the employees with a long mustache (don't care about the stache, just hoping a manager sees this) was having personal conversations very loudly that we're riddled with profanity with a restaurant full of people including numerous small children. It was so inappropriate. I was sitting as far away as I could be and could still hear clearly. Those poor kids definitely got an ear full. You should be ashamed.
