They sent Elvin over to take a look at the mess I have going on with my very ancient electrical system. He was super helpful - he took his time walking through and evaluating everything, and explained things to me while doing so. When it came down to his professional opinion and recommendations, it was a super chill conversation -- he made my options clear and understandable without the feeling of an 'upsell' He also humored my dog, who kept following him everywhere They were also available to do the work almost immediately, but my scheduling couldn't accommodate. I hired Five or Free Electrical Solutions through Yelp for service scheduled on 2/11/26. They were very responsive in setting up a free quote on 2/10/26 and quickly scheduled the service for the next day. To secure the appointment, I had to prepay for a package that included full diagnostics and replacement of up to two devices. I felt comfortable paying upfront because of their reviews and business model, and I was on a tight timeline. On 2/11, the technician arrived on time, diagnosed the issue, and restored power to two non-working outlets. However, the job was not completed as agreed because the outlets required GFCI replacements. The technician said he was not informed that outlets needed to be replaced and did not have the necessary materials. That lack of preparation immediately caused delays. I also felt there was more focus on upselling a larger future project rather than completing the paid scope of work for the day. After I contacted the company, a follow-up was scheduled for 2/13/26. I was initially given a two-hour window, but the appointment was changed last-minute to later time that evening. The second technician was efficient and completed the outlet replacements in about 30-40 minutes. Still, the overall experience resulted in a multi-day setback that impacted my next urgent project and now not allowing me to move forward due to the long weekend (president's day). To their credit, management followed up and set up a call 2/17/26 with the manager of operations; they ultimately honored their "Five or Free" guarantee. However, I was initially told that all five promises had to be broken to qualify for a full refund, which contradicts their stated policy. Their guarantee clearly states that if even one promise is missed, the service is free; so I had to reference their own website during that discussion. At the end I appreciate that the full refund was ultimately offered / issued. However, due to the lack of preparedness, delays, and overall experience, I would not hire them again. read more

The contractor I chose offered a free voltage drop analysis, and found that there was no voltage drop. We had couple of breakers tripping frequently had called in help to identify the issue. They were professional. At one point in our conversations there was inconsistencies in what the issue was (larger voltage drops at end points, breaker itself, inefficient wiring etc. ) but ultimately issue got fixed although some of the concerns initially raised seemed not concerning later. read more

I've had varied experiences with their estimators and service, but overall they do good work. We first worked with them a couple years ago to update 10+ outlets & smart switches. They also replaced old security lights around our house with new ones, a mix of updated motion-activated flood lights and smart security flood lights. Overall good, but I did notice some sloppy caulk work on some of the flood lights that I cleaned up later. The guys they sent were courteous and professional. We also had them back to install a wired Eufy doorbell camera, which required some planning to ensure that it could be hooked up to both a power source and Ethernet. The team did a great job, listened to our needs around placement, patched up the walls where they drilled, and cleaned up afterwards. That said, of course they're not patch pros, but luckily we were planning on bringing painters in anyway. I've gotten a couple other estimates from them for other work, but decided not to go with them because their prices are usually the highest quote. The most egregious estimate (and hard sell) I got was for upgrading our sub panels. They were the first ones I talked to and the estimator quoted around 5k-6k total. I immediately didn't feel great about needing to put down a check deposit & the price and cancelled the next day. We did end up upgrading our sub-panels for half that with another electrician at a more reasonable price. That said, these guys are experienced professionals and obviously run a tight ship; good booking software, good web presence, lots of availability and expertise--I'd imagine the overheard requires that sort of markup to keep things chugging along. read more

There is currently a fan in place so no new electrically box or additional support needed. basically take down the old and put up the new. I contacted Five or Free on Monday morning and spoke with John who kindly and promptly set me up with an appointment for Tuesday. John was cool (we spoke for a minute) and after learning I am a veteran he encouraged me to apply for the company's veteran discount (really helpful). On Tuesday Tim A came by in the morning to assess the need. He was on time, quick, and super friendly. The team set me up with a same day appointment to get the job done. I was planning to do several upgrades for my house's electricity system. I would like to upgrade my electrical panel, to add an EV charger and to repair some breaker in my subpanel. I asked quotes from several electricians and electric companies. Elvin and another electrician from Five or Free came to check my situation. They did a very thorough examination of my electric circuit, and even called our electricity provider to double check the situation. Finally, they reached the conclusion that my electrical panel doesn't need upgrade and they can do the rest of the work. They really went above and beyond to do their job. Unfortunately, my budget for this work changed due to the harsh economic situation now, and the quote from Five or Free is certainly in the high end among the quotes I got, although they did a more detailed examination than any of the other electricians I met. I got these guys to install recess lights in my living rooms in 2023 January. They took at least 3 rounds of trips to get it really done, every day they will make a mess and promise to come back late and fix. This does not include the times they come for measurement etc. First day they spent a minimum of half a day to wire up a fan, not a fancy fan, simple straightforward fan. In between adding recess lights they changed a switch which had no issues and it stopped turning off - the light will stay on 24 hours a day. One dimmer switch they installed will not dim the light. After working on new switches for dimmer, they left lot of patches I had to call a painter to patch things. I am not talking about small around the areas of switchboard. Even before fixing all these issues, they will demand to get paid without doing all the work. Today I am writing this review in 2024 Jan since they sent an email saying I need to pay around 121$, I had paid whole amount last year. Most annoying of all, adding 5 stars in the beginning of all their emails. read more

The experience with Five or Free Electrical was great from start to finish. Eric was our electrician estimator, he was thorough and walked us through the fix needed. We had critters chew through our AC major wiring but he also gave us a few suggestions for upgrades. No heavy sale, more data driven which was appreciated. Issac & Oscar came out two days later and fixed everything. It has been a while since I used a service where I felt good about it even after writing the check. I'm not certain where they fit as far as price. I received 3 different estimates. One was $5800 running a new wire across the house. The second was roughly $1000 but it left out several items. And then there was Five or Free which was $1435 but included the AC wire being re-routed to a junction box to cut out the bad wires, hardwired a fountain pump and added power to a receptacle. Communicative: I got a quick response to my service inquiry through Yelp. At every step from initial contact to all my emails, to booking, etc. replies were immediate. I was kept informed if a new issue popped up. Multiple confirmations, both written and voice were sent. While I liked talking to a real person, I also appreciated the written confirmation detailing the job expectations. Prompt: Tim, the electrician, was great. The main office messaged me before he arrived but Tim also texted and called me with his ETA. My time is just as valuable as my wallet. I appreciated that he showed up when he said he would. Efficient: Tim quickly evaluated the problem and gave me an upfront recommendation. His diagnosis was pretty accurate but he was honest when other problems emerged. He patiently explained the issues and I didn't feel ripped off. Price seemed comparable to others. Not cheap but I don't begrudge them making a living. Above and beyond: Tim didn't have a part and promised to return first thing in the morning to complete repairs and he did. I've worked with tradesmen in the past with no sense of urgency or respect for the customer.
