I found myself in quite a pickle early this year when my possessed Chevy Silverado decided to go all autopilot and take over driving from me. I was an hour south of Five Star Chevy when I began calling Chevy dealerships in the area. The service person I spoke to at this location (Christine) was the only person I spoke to who offered any help at all. Thanks so Christine's advice I was able to get my vehicle towed to Five Star. Although they were not able to find the problem (a long story for another time) she did work diligently with her technicians and GM engineers to try to correct the issue. read more

If you, or anyone else you know are looking to purchase a vehicle in the near future, avoid any and every business affiliated with Five Star. In particular their Florence Chevrolet dealership. Went to their service department for work that based on the symptoms of the car, they agreed would have been drivetrain related and therefore covered under warranty. Drop the vehicle off for two days and receive a call that all it needed was a battery and that it would be $554 to replace it. Of course I'm not paying that to replace a battery on a Chevrolet, so I said thanks and that we'd just come pick it up. The service adviser then tells me I would still be charged with a $250 diagnostic fee, but immediately followed that he could speak to his manager about reducing the fee to $125. I then proceeded to tell him my feelings about this absurdity and informed him that that $125 would ensure we would NEVER do any future business with Five Star in any shape or form. He said he understood and would let his service manager know. At no point in the initial scheduling or any time other than after diagnosis was there any mention of the possibility of a diagnostic fee if whatever issue wasn't covered under warranty. Being able to make that informed decision would have made this situation much different. What's even more absurd, is that I would have been charged for the diagnostic fee EVEN IF I had the work done by their service department. For the final atrocity, in my blind disgust I went ahead and bought a battery and replaced the current one, based on their "diagnosis". After installing the new battery, I took the old battery to be tested. As it turns out, that old battery was still good, and only slightly below rated cold cranking amps. It just needed a charge if anything. Long story short, the b______s at Five Star screwed me out of $125 and into a $270 battery I didn't really need. read more

My family has purchased 3 cars over 10+ years. My last purchase was a brand new car that I purchased a warranty with. The warranty is pointless if the dealership can't accommodate repairs timely. I had a very disappointing experience at Five Star Chevrolet in Florence, SC. My salesperson was Bryce and the finance manager was Justin. I was told the vehicle I purchased had been properly serviced and was "ready to go." Within a short time, I discovered problems with parts that should never fail under 50,000 miles. These are components rated to last much longer, which makes it clear the vehicle was either not serviced as promised or its condition was misrepresented at the time of sale. When I brought this to their attention, the dealership refused to take responsibility or offer any kind of resolution. Instead of standing behind their word and their product, they left me stuck with the issues. This is not the level of honesty, service, or accountability you would expect from a Chevrolet dealership. We purchased a used car for our daughter on Friday 4/23/2021, and kept the car hid until that following Monday to give it to her as a surprise. Because of that we were not really able to drive the car until surprise day. On Monday at 6 pm we gave her the car. Overjoyed she drove it of course. At 8:30 pm we received a call saying the car wont start. We ended up having to leave it overnight at Walmart. I called 5 Star Tuesday morning and talked to the GM- John. He told me they discounted the car and that's why they sell used cars as is! However we were told that the car had been inspected by the service department prior to being put for sale. When I asked if there was anything they could do. The GM said for me to have my insurance tow it to their location and they would run a free diagnostic, but that was it! Called their service dept and they won't even work on the car because its a Honda. Great job 0 Star Chevy you cheated a local family and ruined a great surprise for little girl. If I could Google Rate you a ZERO I would. -- Oh the GM did say he would buy the car back if it had major problems. Very unpleasant experience buying a car from this dealer: 1. Salesman was not clear on interest rate and did not want to provide definite number when questioned stating "I am not a crook just so you know lol". During signing the paperwork the rate was shown as 4.7% instead of 3.7% stated by the bank. 2. Also he did not want to address the the repairs of cosmetic damage which had been promised to be taken care of. 3. $500 paint protection was added to the total cost which was not disclosed at the time of purchase. When questioned about the paint protection, the finance manager replied they were not going to take it off after adding without permission. 4. After finishing the purchase and getting in the car to drive 2 and a half hours home, we noticed significantly low tire pressure 23 psi on all 4 tires on dashboard which had not been addressed by salesman who just filled the car with gas 5 minutes prior. 5. The most aggravating process was unethical way to work with customers. You should never lie to the customer to obtain business. read more

Unbelievable! I took my Nephew to the Florence, SC location to look at vehicles because, I agreed to co-sign to help him out. Initially, they did not have what he wanted. Several day's later, the salesperson called my nephew to come back in to take a look at a Honda that came in after we visited the dealership. The salesperson, first of all made my 22 year old nephew forge my signature on a document, and then, in order to hold the vehicle overnight while he thought about making the purchase, my nephew was told he needed to leave a $2,500.00 deposit to hold the vehicle, which he did. He went back to get his $2,500.00. This is not a business with ethics or morals. If you choose to patronage this establishment, I suggest you double check, then check again all doucuments to ensure that they are not adding in extra or bogus charges. read more

Ridiculous diagnostic charge of $145 that included $22 in "supplies". Diagnostics on 2017 Silverado consists of plugging computer into truck. No supplies required. When I questioned the Service Manager I was told this charge applies to everyone who comes in for service. Then I was quoted $860 to repair 4 wires manually because the replacement wire harness was not available yet from GM(?). I repaired the wires including soldering them in TWENTY MINUTES. Will not go back. Sad since this is closest GM dealer near me. read more

Went here last Saturday after being warned of their tactics but gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to give Travis a try. We were plain about credit not being ruined until we were sure. Well every car at a good price we picked out was suspiciously unavailable so then tried to push a couple on us that we just wasn't interested in. Finally found one and he said they were putting a new transmission in it so we thought ok for that price with new transmission sounds good! Well made the mistake of saying a certain time we wanted a car by ( for vacation) he left out came back in and said " well its gonna take 2 weeks to have part and ready so only choice is the last one I showed ya" at this point I had enough and said "NO since we came in we have been given the run around and that's ok we will go elsewhere " he asked to give him a min left and when he came back magically the transmission was in and could be ready this week. I asked are you sure and we can certainly get this one before ya run our credit? He assured me yes for sure so then we ok'd him to run credit............ well he promised to call Monday (did not) we called left message but no return. We called back Tuesday and he was off work! We still haven't heard anything after he knew how important to us it was not to have credit ran until we for sure was gonna purchase!! BTW we were approved! The blessing from this tho is today I went to different dealership found better car and NO HASSLE! Confusion is the way it works here. There are some good people but I honestly dont see how they stay in business with this level of service. Then I had a microswith fail in the shifter which I had exposed for easy inspection. Cost to LOOK AT IT? 145.00 It will take me 20 minutes to glue it or remove it. So I needed a car. I have been to other dealerships in Florence and haven't really been impressed. Never had I felt like writing a review until now. When I went to the dealership they showed me some used vehicles. They were horrible. They were filthy and needed attention. I was told it must have been from people taking test drives. Really. Most people don't spend enough time in a test drive that they would leave trash. When talking with the sales person I asked about warranties. I was told that if the car had under 100,000 miles or was less than 10 years old it would have a warranty. I found a car and finalized the paperwork. I was sick the day I was at the dealership so I didn't read all of the fine print until the next day (my fault, not theirs) that was when I realized they added a $2000.00 warranty onto my contract which changed how much I had to finance. When I called and asked about it they gave me the run around and acted like I misunderstood the warranty that they told me about. I bought the car that I did because it was under 100,000 miles and was less than 10 yrs old and I made sure to mention that to the sales guy multiple times. Now I'm being told that I must have misunderstood. Than the finance guy gets on the phone and said I would be crazy to take the warranty off because the car could break down at any time and I would be screwed. I felt like he was strong arming me. I was supposed to receive a gift card for test driving a car and no one has responded back to me about it. I will never use them again and I hope other people will stop going there. After My 3rd attempt to get my engine light serviced I had the pleasure of being taken care of by a Rep name Marty. His level of concern and dedication in making sure everything I needed was taken care of quickly and smoothly as possible is greatly appreciated, he took the time to explain to me what was going on with my car so that I would have a clear understanding of what was going on and the process it was going to take to fix it. In addition, He made sure the problem was resolved without costing me another dime or a headache. Although my experience wasn't perfect I would take my car back to Five Star based on Marty's level of customer service. Reps with great customer service skills don't come so often but when it does it is greatly appreciated! read more

This dealership overcharges on all parts and labor. 135 an hr really it cost less to have my semi worked on than my car. They mark up the parts I needed 4 items and they wanted 2200 for and 15 hrs in labor. I called around other dealership within 100 had priced me between 1300 to 1600 for the 4 parts and only 9 hours in labor. The service did a great job what I had no choice but to get fixed there cracked radiator. And Marty was nice professional and knew his job well. Very bad experience in all aspects. Paperwork was done incorrect after sale was done. My boyfriend went back to Afghanistan and I got a call saying they had made a mistake with sales paperwork. Dealership kept calling me asking how we can sign papers again. They were so worry and kept calling me harrasing me with questions and how to fix problem. After deciding they were gonna send paperwork to Afghanistan. My boyfriend had to rushed paper work back to dealership but with a cost of 75.00 otherwise it was gonna take 3 weeks for dealership to get it. Once we got the paper work they had change the APR to a higher rate. Why???? If we were already approved to lower rate when we signed the contract. My boyfriend was rush to get paper work back to the dealer so we trust them and signed paperwork . I called dealership 4 times and I also text our sales man Kendrick many times. I was told more than 4 times they were going to find out why APR WAS higher but of course they already had all the paper work on their hands so they never call us back or follow up with us. All this paper work error they did cost us over 500.00. Be careful buying from here. You are better off driving out of Florence and make sure you get what you signed. This place has failed in every way. I purchased a truck from them but required a couple things to be fixed before I would sign a contract (tailgate in working order and passenger window able to roll up and down) the used car manager seemed very annoyed that I wouldn't just take the truck as is. As part of the purchase we were given a free oil change and a voucher in case something happened to the nitro tires. Well we brought it in for our oil change and everything seemed fine, till we went to do our next oil change and the bolt had been stripped by the dealerships mechanics. When we brought it to their attention and asked for it to be fixed we were treated as a nuisance. When we had a tire blow out and brought it in to be fixed they refused to file our voucher, that came from them, to return $100 off the cost! I will never purchase anything from this business again nor will I go to them for any repairs. If you value a company that has integrity and follows through go somewhere else. I went to Five Star looking to purchase a BMW. Spoke with Rachel Capps. The first day things went ok. I didnt qualify for the car I wanted so Rachel showed me ways that they decide on a car and told me to call her back if I found one, based on the information and calculations that she had given me on the paper. Move forward to today. I called Rachell Capps excited because based off what she said and the information she provided me, I qualified for the new car that I picked out. I called Rachel Capps at 12PM and gave her the information and she said she would call back. Welp four hours and 3 phone calls later, I finally got threw to her for her to say they cant help me with the car I wanted. I asked her why did it take her 4 hours to tell me that when it didnt take that long when I came in the store. I also asked her why they didnt give me the full blue book value of my car and of course more excuses came with that. My point is this...The 2nd go round was very unprofessional and left a nasty taste in my mouth about this company. I think that it shouldn't have taken 4 hours for her to respond to me. She said she was busy all day and I said so you didnt get a break one time where you could've called and informed me of yall's decision. Horrible - victim of Bait and Switch, we were specifically looking for a used Jeep Grand Cherokee that can tow, found car good price $22,000 on Auto Trader, made an appointment via dealer internet sales, they call and verified we will still coming 3 times and would have the car ready. We live 65 miles away from dealership, drove 90 mins (each way) on a Saturday, only to find the sales man showed us a brand new truck $12,000 over our budget. Proceeded to keep talking about new truck and we told him we need to see the Jeep that we came for. At 15 mins wait, he comes back and tells us he can't find it, then came back to tell us, it's not here went out for some sort of test. We were mad, what kind of test? he didn't know, went back to check when it would be back, he told us maybe tomorrow (Sunday - which they are closed), but he wasn't sure. We were furious, demanded our key back to our car that was sitting for over an hour waiting to get a trade in value. The manager had to bring us the keys because they wouldn't give them to us right away. Wasted 4 hours of my life I can't get back. We also had a invite for $50 gift card if we test drove. We never got the gift card because we didn't test drive. Dealership is a rip off and I'm filing a complaint with Attorney General for Bait and Switch. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Five Star Chevrolet yesterday (10/05/2019) to look at their used trucks for sale. The sales associate Daniel showed us a 2011 Chevy Silverado that we were interested in. It has 180,000 plus miles on it, was not taken care of by the previous owner, marijuana stems found in the back floor board, and they wanted $14,5000 for it. We told them the only way we would consider it is if they went down on the price. Daniel told us that the price was already discounted as much as possible (which was not true) but he said he'd talk to his sales manager to make sure. He comes back and says they were able to lower the price to $14,393... $107 off is NOTHING when you're purchasing a vehicle. The truck had not been detailed on the interior yet so we told Daniel we wanted to see how clean it could be after detailing (because like I said there were marijuana stems in the back floor board, empty drink bottles, & orange clay looking dirt on the seats, floor, doors, ceiling, etc.) and we told him we wanted to see the car fax. He takes us to his office and Immediately asks us to fill out a credit report. I stopped him and said we don't know if we want this truck yet, therefore I did not want them running our credit until we knew for sure. So he brings back the Carfax and we told him we just didn't like the price still. So he goes and gets his sales manager (can't remember his name but won't be hard to find out) and he says what can we do to get you to lock this truck down today? We tell him we still wanted to see how clean it could be after detailing and the price was still high for it. He says well we won't be able to detail it until Monday and it could be sold by then so how can we get you to lock this truck in right now, as is? We tell him, the ONLY way would be to drop the price. He says to me, "oh no ma'am I am not dropping the price of this truck anymore than I already have ($107?? Lol) I have already put $4,400 into this truck since we got it and there has been 2 people up here today looking at it and saying they would come back (yeah...right!) so if you don't lock this truck in today you probably won't be able to after detailing is done". First of all, that was very unprofessional. Secondly, most all dealerships will work with you, we were not being unreasonable with how the truck looked and the miles. His attitude alone made me not want the truck at all. So we told them never mind, we aren't interested. Then they said we could come back Monday and look it after detailing was done if it was still there. So we agreed to do that, but after getting home and my boyfriend and I thinking about it we have decided that we will not be coming back here, mainly because of the sales managers attitude. There are FAR better trucks out there for the same price (or lower) that are in immaculate condition. What happened was, he saw that we were a young couple trying to purchase a truck and thought he could talk us into it for a price that was too high. Obviously he didn't get his was with us, I just hope he doesn't try to fool another young person into purchasing this truck for the price he tried. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the sales associate Daniel was very nice to us and spent his time trying to get us to purchase the truck, let us test drive it and all. read more

Got the worst deal ever on a car, spent weeks and weeks trying to get all the details worked out. Spent 6 hours there on 2 different visits and still didn't have the paperwork right. Someone had to come to my house twice because the wrong paper work was signed. They guessed on the amount of my existing loan, instead of waiting until Monday to call and verify. Then tried to tell me I was responsible for the amount of the difference. Told them we wanted to pay one price or we were walking and they hounded us to let them try one more thing over and over again. Ended up with a payment WAY higher than we wanted and now have a car that is financed for twice what the value of the vehicle is. No one will work with us to get the car off our hands because it is so upside down. Other dealers have told us how bad of a deal I got that day. Would do anything to go back and never have bought this car. I will never buy a car from Five Star Chevrolet in Florence and wish they would take this crap deal they gave me back. I went in today to get a used truck 2012 1500 Silverado. We called before we went and where told that a truck we seen online was $23,000 for a truck with 42000 miles on it with dents all in the side of it. Well I told them I wanted to trade my work van. I test drove the truck and said I wanted it lets make a deal. Well they ran my credit and come back and said they will give me $14,000 for my van!!!!!! It is a 2015 Ford Transit Connect with only 11000 miles on it. Kelly Blue Book trade in is $18,000. So I told them they have to come way up. Well then the salesman comes back and says that the truck that they are selling is $28,000 after we where told and seen it online listed for $23,000. FALSE ADVIERTISMENT You can get a brand new one for $28,000. These people are not Sales Professionals they are Scam Artists. Sad part is there truck they are selling is only worth 19000 maxx. I went in to look at the trucks to compare to other trucks I was looking at. While I was there they offered me 20% off the truck if I signed that day. I agreed because I thought it was a great deal. I signed some starter forms that day which was 7-14-16. I was told to come back on 7-15-16 to finish the papers. I came in that morning at 9 and told them the day before I had to leave by 11 because it was my daughters bday. After sitting there for two hours my salesman came to me and said it was not going to get done that day for me to come back the next day. I had to take two hours off from work on 7-16-16 but we finally got the paperwork done. When I was signing the paperwork that day I was told by the finance guy that they had brought him in from Georgia because of how screwed up the dealership had become. Five Star was paying for him a place to stay in Florence so he could help get the dealership straight. I should have known then I was making a mistake. On 7-25-16 I was called again by my salesman who told me I needed to come back in because they forgot to get me to sign some papers. When I asked what papers he told me he didn't know. I told him I might be able to come by on 7-27-16 but my schedule was busy right now. Well on 7-26-16 I had time to stop by so I did thinking they just needed one or two papers signed. They told me they didn't have time for me that day and I needed to come back later. I told them I wasn't coming back this was the third time I had been up there to sign papers. I was told by the sales manager that I could wait or I could come back the next day but that was my only two options. I then told him he knew where I lived if he had anything for me to sign. I called back later that day and spoke to the customer service manager and explained the situation to her. She told me she would get back to me. I later received a call from the salesman that they would pay my first payment if I came back in to sign the paperwork because they had screwed up and offered me a deal they shouldn't have offered. I went back up there to sign the paperwork only to find out they had backdated everything to 7-7-16 which meant my first payment was now do in a week on 8-7-16 so it finally dawned on me why they were willing to make the first payment. Thinking everything was over and done I was surprised on 8-5-16 from the title clerk telling me they had screwed up again and could not transfer the tag from the car I traded in because it was not in my name. When I asked why it was not caught earlier she replied that is not my job. I asked her to title the truck in my name and my girlfriends name so we could transfer the tag she told me it was to late. I called DMV and they told me that as long as it wasn't 45 days from the day I signed the papers they could add her. I called back to Five Star and told them what DMV said and the only person willing to talk to me was the customer service manager who said she didn't know how any of this stuff worked so she transferred me to the title clerk I spoke to earlier who told me again it was not her job so she was going to transfer me to the finance manager. After staying on hold for awhile she came back on the line and told me the finance manager was busy and didn't have time to talk to me and that the general manager wouldn't talk to me. I have tried several times to talk to Scott the GM but he refuses to take my call or call me back. The salesman told me that Scott said he had done everything he was going to do for me and wasn't going to speak to me. I told them I didn't want anything done but my girlfriends name added to the title so I wouldn't have to pay over $800.00 on car taxes to the county. Needless to say the response I got was we don't care our deal is done. I will never buy from this place again. read more

I bought a car from Five Star in July, they went out of their way provided great customer service and landed that sale, Afterward the nightmare began, they did not have the car i wanted so they needed a $500 deposit to get it shipped to the dealership, fine. They told me it would be refunded the following Monday, which was reasonable. Showed up Monday to pick up the car, finalize my paperwork and get my deposit back. I called ahead to see if the car was ready, they weren't sure and said they would call if it didn't show up, no one got in touch with me to let me know so I drove 30 miles with another person to pick it up for no reason. The deposit was also not ready. They assured me they would get an associate to drive the car to my house as soon as it was ready, filled up with a full tank of gas. Well things happen, I understand I am a reasonable person, it all sounded good, and it was just what I wanted to hear. One week later the car came in, when I asked about a delivery they told me I had to come and pick it up, I really needed a car ASAP, so I found a friend and we drove to Florence to pick up the car. I had to wait 2 hours to fill out paperwork, they were really busy, I understand, but I was excited to finally drive my new car home. I got in and the tank was almost empty. I had to go back inside and get a gas voucher to make them honor what they told me. I then drove to their specific gas station down the road to fill up the tank. The next week I stopped by Five Star to grab my deposit, it still wasn't ready, and apparently it wouldn't be till the next day. They also told me my paperwork was incorrect. They sold me the exact make and model car, but with a different VIN number than the actual car I received. I came by the next day after work, they still did not have the deposit ready, but I did wait another hour, did not have time to wait longer to do the paperwork. I told them I would stop by at the end of the week after work to grab the deposit, stopped by Friday, they did not have it, but I waited around 2 hours and was able to finalize the actual paperwork. The associates gave me a call that weekend wanting me to come in, they messed up the paperwork AGAIN, and apparently made the exact same mistake again! I just wanted to be done at this point, but I want to do the right thing so I come in the next time I am able during the week, fill out all the paperwork again this process EACH TIME takes close to 1-1/2 2 hours, They apologize give me a gas voucher, they STILL do not have my $500 deposit ready, they assure me this time it will be ready tomorrow. I make another trip over and finally grab my deposit. I get a call TWO days later! They #$%^'ed the paperwork up again, I have to make another trip to Florence, refill out the paperwork again this time they are really prepared I only have to wait ONE hour, they give me another gas voucher and tell me I can pick anything out of glass case up front "for my troubles" [just to note there are a bunch of cheap coffee cups and license plate covers] I told them they could buy me dinner at least I could take my wife out, and this runaround wouldn't be a whole waste. They said they would send me a $100 gift card in the mail for dinner, fine. [I have not received anything, and I am positive that they only said that to get me out the door] I will say this, I love my new car, but if I didn't - I would have returned it on principle for the terrible, shoddy service I received there, and I will never ever buy from five star, Chevy, GM of its affiliates ever again. read more

My husband bought a used Lexis IS and a service plan for oil change and tire rotations from Five Star. He took the car in today for an oil change and tire rotation. When he got the car back, he noticed that when he would turn, there was a rubbing noise. He realized that the tires that were rotated from the back to front were too big for the front. He called the service department and thalked to the Service Manager who obviously did not know that the back tires on the Lexis IS are larger than the front tires and should never be rotated to the front. The Service Manager told him that he requested an oil change and tire rotation and that is what the technicians did. I told the Service Manager that anyone could look at the tires and tell that the tires on the back of the car were smaller and the tire on the front bearly fit the space. He said they don't service Lexis that much and did not look up the specs regarding the tires for the car. The technician put the tires on and they fit. That's it. If we wanted the tire rotated back, we would have to bring the car back another day. So, if Five Start don't know how to rotate tires on a Lexis, why are they selling service plan to change the oil and rotate the tires. Oh, the Service Manager said the technician serviced the Lexis just as if it was a Chevy brand.Really!!! read more
