If you value communication and competence, look elsewhere. I have been trying to get a leaking Blueridge AC unit repaired by 5-Star Heating and AC for exactly one year, and the issue is still not fixed. Here is a timeline of how this company operates: June 2025: My AC starts heavily leaking. 5-Star states a replacement drain pan is on a 3-month backorder. I put up with a broken unit for the entire summer and fall. December 2025: I am notified the part is finally in stock. 5-Star refuses to schedule with me directly and fails to coordinate with my property manager. No repair happens. April 2026: Needing the AC again, I reach out. The owner, Brian, emails me confirming the part is in stock and tells me to call to schedule. May 27, 2026: After playing phone tag, they finally send a technician. The tech (Nate, who was polite) informs me that no replacement part was actually needed and that it was just a clogged drain line. Present: The unit is still leaking water. When I called back to inform them the May 27th service didn't fix the problem, the receptionist seemed confused. While trying to get a straight answer, I literally overheard Brian in the background blaming me, stating, 'It is impossible to schedule anything with someone who won't pick up.' This is incredibly unprofessional coming from a business that consistently failed to return my calls and expects me to drop everything during middle-of-the-workday phone calls. One year later, the unit is still broken, the communication is abysmal, and the ownership would rather deflect blame than fix their mistakes. Strongly do not recommend. read more

I was referred to 5 Star by another HVAC contractor who offered to sell me a new furnace due to a failed heat exchanger in my 20 year old furnace. After some research, I discovered that the heat exchanger was covered under an extended warranty by Payne (made be Carrier) but had to be installed by a certified Payne dealer. That is where 5 Star came in. Furnace was in an attic and a very tight space but that did not stop them from getting the job done. Nate and his dad Dave were very polite and had to make several trips due to some incorrect parts they received from Payne. Furnace is working fine again. Although the furnace works fine now, due to it's age, A/C running R-22 and challenging serviceability, I had already decided to install a new ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump system. I did the complete install myself but need some additional refrigerant added. I called 5 Star again and Nate came out to add the additional refrigerant as prescribed by the installation manual of my system. I explained to Nate how I did my vacuum, he checked my work, gave it the thumbs up, he added the prescribed refrigerant, then we started the system up and he verified my refrigerant pressure. Although I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about residential systems, 5 Star filled in a gap I could not complete on my own and did so with respect and a willingness to be helpful at a most reasonable cost. read more

From our first phone call to Jessica, to set up service and the actual concern she showed along with Brian(owner) and Jason the Installer and his coworker that was with him sorry we don't remember his name we are more than happy with the service. Jessica made sure that she took care of our issue of not having heat of central air in my parents home(during one of the hottest periods of the summer) Brian was kind and considered everything and supported Jessica in making sure my parents were taken care of, and Jason did an awesome job of installing and keeping us up to date on the project. Over all this organization deserves an A+ due to these 4 individuals. I could not be happier with them. The air conditioner in our home failed late on a Saturday. We have a maintenance agreement with Five Star and left a message on their phone that we needed service. Just a few minutes later we received a return call letting me know that a service tech would call on Sunday morning. The tech, Dave, called as promised on Sunday and came to our house mid-morning. He diagnosed the unit and found two issues, one of which he could repair with a part he carried in his van and the other he could pick up on Monday morning from a distributor. He called on Monday to let us know he had the part and installed it that afternoon. Dave kept us informed every step of the way and we appreciated the prompt service and care to make sure that we were up and running without delay. Last month I called Five Star to repair a furnace in a modular home I own. They came the very next day and replaced the gas valve which was not opening properly. Two weeks later the same problem popped up. I called them and the tech named David came and determined the new valve was defective. Replaced it with another new one at no charge to me. Ultimately it was determined that a control board was allowing excess voltage to the valve which caused it to malfunction. Everything is working fine now and I told my tenant that I would be replacing the furnace with a new one this early this summer. Naturally Five Star will be one of the companies I get a quote from! Kevin in the office is very helpful and nice. She got our furnace warranty that no other company offered to do, so Thank you Kevin. The guys they sent over to check out our furnace were on time and did a really good job. They found out that the chimney and cap needed to be replaced. The CO2 was recirculating back in our home and making us sick, since we moved in since April. 5 star was the 3rd company we called about seeing if we had a CO2 leak. All the other company's said they thought it was the heat exchange unit that needed to be replaced which would cost around $3900. But now we know it is still under warranty if it ever goes bad. long story short We had to have a new furnace installed. After researching various HVAC companies We decided on Five Star because they were doing the maintenance on our previous furnace and the cost for the new furnace was slightly lower . Not disappointed so far! Only had to open the door for the technician and show him where the utility room was. Sebastian (the technician) was on time, thoroughly explained everything and finished in a timely manner and actually cleaned up afterward!!!!! Five Star Heating and Air was wonderful to deal with. Lee came out to do my initial quote and was very professional. He did a great job answering my many questions about the system options prior to me agreeing to the work. Jason was the install lead who performed my whole system (gas furnace and A/C) install and was phenomenal. He did a wonderful job explaining everything they were doing, was very punctual, and was one of the nicest guys I have had to deal with. Excellent, honest service. I had asked my regular HVAC company to help with upper bedrooms that were not getting cool enough during the summer season and was advised that a ductless system would be the best option (other options were discussed too). The estimate came in much higher than I expected. After getting a second estimate from Five-Star, I was told it wasn't necessary. The service tech, Lee, inspected and figured out a solution. Lee and I communicated regularly after his initial visit and he always quickly responded to my questions. He saved me thousands of dollars and I am switching to them as my primary HVAC. My AC went out and it needed a whole new motor and Brian replaced it, gave me info on a rebate to make the cost affordable and they gave me time to pay off the remaining balance, hassle free!!! Dave, the service tech arrived on time. He quickly diagnosed the problem at the AC unit as not getting voltage from the thermostat. Down at the furnace he spotted the loose wire another company's installers were responsible for along with improper wiring of the furnace. He changed the wires around on both furnace boards and reconnected the loose wire. Back at the AC unit which was back running he checked the pressure which was fine and put everything back together. No parts were needed. I thought the $90 service charge was very reasonable. Would highly recommend. read more

We've used five star twice in the last few months. Once was for a problem with the A/C and once was for a furnace glitch. On both occasions the guy showed up on time and took care of the problem in short order. Both the lady on the phone and the repairman were courteous, friendly and professional. What more could you ask for? The furnace glitch, by the way, was in the middle of a cold snap, when many people were experiencing problems -- and Nate showed up when the lady told me he would, and on that same afternoon. I have been with Five Star for 10+ years and have used them to install a new AC unit and also to convert my furnace from electric to a new gas model. Last week I was out of the country on vacation when my Ecobee app sent an alert that my furnace wasn't heating. I called Five Star in the morning and they got a technician out to my house that day. We have had the Five Star fall spring contract for 5 yrs. we love their reliable service and the friendliness and competency and experience and knowledge of the service guys and ease of scheduling. 2 summers ago we had a Holiday loss of AC during an out of state family visit and they were to work us in quickly. it was just a capacitor on the outside compressor which was easily and quickly fixed with the discount they provide for enrolled service contract people. My water heater went out and flooded my basement. When I called 5 Star they were at my house within an hour and installed a new water heater the same day. Great service and the technicians were very friendly. I was shocked at the price as my last water heater was about 1/3 of the price, (since Covid, everything has gone up!) but I checked around and they were comparable, even with Lowes!
