Cost estimate to repair air conditioning system (condenser) was quite a bit more than I expected and more than an additional estimate.

The customer services is completely terrible, they have an AI system that sucks!! I have tried multiple times to talk to a live representative with NO success. They sell me a ridiculous expensive heating and air conditioning system that I have bought the warranties and service plans for and it seems like a huge struggle to get the basic service. The technician came to the house and after a while told us our dishwasher leak was due to a bad drain pump (the most expensive part on the dishwasher to replace) my appliance warranty covered it. After installing this new pump the dishwasher still leaked and he reported we needed to replace the whole unit (which the warranty company approved and reimbursed us a fraction of the cost of a new dishwasher) when my new unit was installed the new installer said "was this old dishwasher leaking?" and I said yes why......he showed me the hoses that the water drains into and there were 2 places it was cracked. Hoses are easy and cheap to fix. This home comfort technician wasn't able/willing to properly diagnose my problem which cost me $300 more to replace a very good dishwasher that only needed a new hose. Beware of this company!!!! 2 years ago Home Comfort Expert sold me a furnace and air conditioning for over $24,000.00. It's been horrible with them keeping up on servicing and communication. I just called because I received a critical alert and the customer service rep was rude. She said that my service contact is expired. Why would they not call me and keep up with a customer that spent 24,000.00. She said she would be glad to send out a service guy for 99.00? They do not stand by their word. Worst. Company. Ever. We had their plan. They came out to service our furnace. The tech had a trainee with him. A week later the furnace started throwing codes. New tech, over $3000 "estimate", including over $600 to replace perfectly good freon. A less mechanically inclined person would have been duped. Not buying it, I instead purchased a manifold gauge set and debugged it myself. Ended up being a $30 thermistor. I spent about $150 and an hour to save $3,000, plus whatever these thieves would have tacked on to replace the $30 sensor. Not good people. Beware. Shop elsewhere. read more

I would not recommend this company. When you buy a furnace, the warranty is only honored if you sign up for their yearly maintenance contract, which will cost you another 120 a year. Fine whatever. But you can't count on them to show up on time for the maintenance appointment. Appointment scheduled for eight. They notify me at 8:47 that they're on their way. Their policy is they contact you when they're 20 minutes out. Contacted them at 9:45 and 40 minutes away. Coming from Fort Wayne not South Bend. Company is not considerate of your time. Company could have better communication stating hey we had to get Fort Wayne. We won't be there for two hours or so. Will that be OK? If they would've communicated i'd be fine but instead I got to waste my morning. read more

Called HCE to look at our 32 year old furnace. The heat exchanger had a large crack in it so we needed to replace the furnace. We knew sooner or later we would have to replace it so we decided to replace the air conditioner too. I already had an estimate from 2 other companies a few months earlier so we kinda knew ball park figures. HCE were having a sale buy the air conditioner get the furnace Free. Their estimate came in the middle of our previous estimates so we gave them the go ahead to install both units ASAP. They promised us next day install. They arrived the next day at the time they quoted 8:30 am. The crew worked for 4 hours removing and installing both units cleaned up their mess and hauled away the old equipment. I needed to replace the 1/2 inch hot and cold water line shut off valves to our washing machine. Home Comfort came out on July 26th and gave me and estate of over $700.00 for the job. BUT, if I signed up for their monthly maintenance program ($7.99 per month) the price dropped to around $488.00. I found this to be outrageous and declined their offer. AND, I was charged $99.00 to have the tech come out and insult me with their exorbitant pricing. The following week I called ABE'S, a local plumber and got the job done for under $200.00 ($40.00 for two 1/2" valves). I WILL NOT CALL HOME COMFORT again for any service. I don't recommend duct cleaning duct cleaning service. In the past 15 years I think I've written one bad review but I feel compelled to write one now. I had a professional duct cleaning coming but home experts said they can match the price and be out faster so I chose them. Over the phone they agreed to match the job. This was including taking off vent covers and showing a video of the work. When the tech came out he said the vent covers aren't included but will show the video. I've messaged twice for the video of what they did but never received. Basically they sell you on the phone but don't do the work as thorough. They just never showed up to replace my furnace. I called them 5 times after they agreed to replace the furnace and my calls were never returned and they never came out to do the work. We had them install new furnace and air conditioner back in Sept when they had a special going on and was very pleased with their service, the warranties and their customer service. We love our digital thermostat and the fact that we can hardly hear our furnace run at all. Our furnace and air conditioner were approximately 18 hrs old and we knew we' d have to do something sometime soon. We didn't want to be caught in the middle of weather without as my husband is a heart patient and wouldn't be good for him. I would highly recommend them. read more

Told me a need a new AC unit because it was leaking CO2 on the inside during combustion - even showed me a picture that was on his phone of... something I didnt understand and said that's where its escaping. I told him I have a CO2 alarm. But he said that it wouldnt go off unless ai had life threatening amounts. He then quoted me an outrageous amount for a part to replace and said I had the option to fully replace and quoted another outrageous number. I only called him out for an annual check up and maintenance. That cost $75. I called in a second opinion. The looked at the system and said they needed to bring in their manager because he couldn't find the problem mentioned. I had to pay $75/ appointment for the second company to tell me that the system was working just fine and not leaking CO2. I feel like they lied and extorted. Not using again. read more

The manager came to our home and looked at our issues and did try to reimburse us the plumbing Materials we had to purchase to fix the issue their tech had created for us. He offered us two options of a service plan for our Ac/furnace or reimbursement of plumbing parts. He was understanding and apologetic. read more

We had a full AC/furnace unit installed in 2018. Despite being more than twice what the price should have been, we still went ahead. In removing the old furnace, they severely damaged a laminate floor by bouncing it through the hallway and living room. Their solution for this was the manager to come out with some mismatched putty to "fill in" the laminate. The rerouted the existing gas line and moved a union so if the hot water heater ever needs to be replaced next to the furnace, the gas will have to be disassembled vs using the union. Their install left the duct work blowing air out of every seam as they did not properly seal anything. The exhaust pipe into the ceiling just had a shirt shoved in the hole around it. Had a condensate pump go bad soon after in the winter and the tech that came out to replace it just cut the zip ties and left them on the floor. As part of the install, we paid for an additional duct cleaning. The tech that came out to do the cleaning made sure to let us know that these are a waste of time for attic duct work and it's a good thing they do these for free because they aren't worth paying for. So if you're going to over charge for a unit, provide poor customer service, and damage property; they should at least tell their techs to not run their mouth about how much they screwed you over. This company is consistently overcharging for work and I've never know anyone to be happy with their work. read more

Absolutely disgusted with Home Comfort Experts. We had a service tech (Corey Rodriguez) come to fix our master bathroom shower. Shortly after, I discovered my $10,000 watch was missing from a locked case in my master closet. The case had been re-locked, but the key--stored in a separate location--was clearly found and used. I've called the company four times, asked for a manager, and still have not received a single response--even after filing a police report and the police speaking directly with them. Their only comment to law enforcement was that they would "keep an eye on the plumber." Completely unacceptable. Avoid this company at all costs. The lack of accountability and communication is outrageous. read more

Do not trust this company. I live with my elderly parents who's furnace wasn't igniting called them out it was roughly $110 just to walk in the door. The service tech said he got it going but didn't know how long it would last and to fix whatever part it was if it went back out would be $3000 and they were so busy they didn't know when they'd be able to come back out but they could send a salesman out because they had buy a furnace get a free AC unit (yeah right free). Then all of a sudden were so busy but we can be here tomorrow for installation. I warned them when I saw the salesman eyes light up when they were paying cash. They took advantage of them for $13000. And come spring when it was AC time went to turn it on and it wasn't installed correctly and had to wait for them again. I wish they had listened looked at all the bad reviews on yelp, Google, or the BBB. Buyers beware there are not trustworthy company.​ read more

The mark up on cheap replacement parts is a pure rip off!!!!!!!!! I called them out cause my furnace was not lighting but everything else was working on it ,,,it was a emergency call so I under stand that it was going to be around 190 bucks...the problem with the furnace was the ignitor at most a 50 dollar part from what I have looked up online with the part number off my old part ,,,,and was charged 300 bucks for the part ...on top of the emergency call... its not like the part was made out of solid effing gold ... the company is ripping people off more or less with the mark up on the parts they get at wholesale pricing .... read more

Run far away from this company! Their main goal seems to be to sell you a whole new furnace! We had a guy from them come out for $169 for a service call. The first thing he said was that we needed a new furnace. Then, he told us if we wanted to change the part that was actually broken, it'll cost $1000 to replace and the furnace will still need to be replaced. Instead, we got another opinion and we were able to change the part for $200. This company is the most expensive in town so go somewhere else to save some money! They aren't experts as they call themselves, just another company buying out all the small ones in south bend. read more

I would put 0 stars if I could. Had Home Comfort out to fix our AC unit that went out. We had told them multiple times that we were just trying to fix our existing unit and not invest in a whole new system. The technician came out and said the repair would be $700, so he did the "repair" and started packing up his things without even checking inside if the air was working ok. The "fix" he did had already stopped working again within a couple minutes before he even left, so my fiancée told him and instead of looking for further issues or fixes, he said he could have someone out later in the day to quote an entire new unit, which was the exact opposite of our goal and now we were out $700. On top of that, my fiancée was the only one home at the time when he showed up and he made several weird, completely unprofessional comments to my fiancée that made her very uncomfortable and made me very mad. Asking about her perfume several times throughout the service and saying it reminded him of his ex girlfriend, having her stay outside with him during the service because he "liked to talk", asking about me (her fiancé) and if she liked me. Completely unacceptable behavior from someone that's supposed to be professional and there to do a job. Seemed like he was more interested in talking to her than trying to repair our unit. The very next day we had a different service company out and their technician fixed our unit within 30 minutes and charged us $150 and it's been working perfect ever since. I will actively steer away anyone I know from ever using this company. Absolutely horrible in every way. Contacted customer service to try and get some reimbursement for such an awful experience and a fix that didn't do anything, but was essentially told we were out of luck. Used their service several years ago for water heater malfunction. They sent first some one who said we need to put new heater. We paid and got new one . Still water will not heat up. They sent 2 different people who were trainee for trouble shooting but could not figure out. My husband went on line and figured out that there was a problem with connecting valve . It was fixed then. They did not take new tank back nor credited towards new tank. Took some money less towards labour. Be aware of technicians they send as they may be not well trained or gimmick of selling new products. They apologized later but I lost my money towards buying new tank unnecessarily read more

We got a new A/C & Heater from Home Comfort Experts in the spring and they really went above and beyond in dealing with our haphazard duct work We also had them out to replace the gas valve that R.A.S. broke when we bought our stove from Home Depot. so... I agreed to pay 1000 dollars to have my duct work blown out. Thats fine I agree to it. the technician showed up 45 min late to start the appointmen. after he took his time after showing up to finally get everything out of the vehicle and setup to start the process we are over an hour in. so we start the process. I stayed out of the way so the " trained professional" could do the job I paid for. after the service was completed he asked for a signature so I signed. after walking back through after he left to shut off lights.. my vents were bent due to him forcing his air fitting through them. all besides a handful. not only that he also left everything that blew out of the vents all over the ground for me to clean up. a day or so later I receive a text and I didn't reply due to being upset asking how the quality and was the work completed satisfactory... another day goes by and I reply I'm not satisfied and let them know about the damage done and the mess that was left behind. the lady replied with " I'll let the department that deals with this know" I said great thank you. a week goes by and nothing.. so I reply back through text to the same lady and I get the same response that she doesn't deal with that. so I reply if I don't talk to someone about this I will be leaving a review on "BBB" and on here! still no reply so here we are! As soon as the "technician" came to the house for a quote, it felt like I was being sold a Kirby vacuum. It was over the top salesman. I didn't get the vibe that he wanted to sell me what I need. He wanted to sell to fill his pockets. He even came prepared with quotes from OTHER customers to try and prove to me that he wasn't overpriced. I had three quotes done and this company will not be the one I choose. I would advise this company to tone the salesman character of their employees. Called them to check my air conditioner. The tech arrived around 6 in the evening...I didn't request a rush and had no idea when he would show up. They don't tell you. They just call 15 minutes before. The tech took doors off and took pictures. Furnace is 20 years old but works great. AC is a bit newer. He told me before even finding the problem I should replace the entire system. He went out side and looked at the unit and took off the panel to the electrical parts. His drill battery was dead *what kind of tech doesn't have more than one battery?? He measured the capacitor and said it was bad..it is four years old..so that is possible these days. He said the contactor was also bad..but didn't test it. He said he could replace those parts for $700..if you read other reviews there is a common theme. He said he had the parts and could do it, but why spend that much and I would likely have another failure soon and need a new system..so I should have a project manager come out to give an estimate. He then said he can schedule the estimate for the next day or come back and install the parts....which he said before were on his truck. Lie 1. After that he said he has one of the mid level systems in his house and loves it. 15 minutes later we were talking and he said he's looking for a house and hates living in an apartment complex. He totally lied about having a system. Here is the kicker. The parts he wanted replaced I looked up and cost $40.00 max!!!! At 11:00 PM, our toilets began to gurgle about once every ten minutes. Every time they did, water began pouring from the main floor into the basement. We called because they advertised emergency service. After talking to the third representative at the company, a technician called me around 12:30 AM. When he called, he said, "I am not a plumber. I'm an HVAC technician. I will charge you $174 for the emergency call, then you will be charged $200 for me to turn off your water. Then a plumber will come back tomorrow, charge you $174 for the call then whatever the work will cost, but a minimum of $200." I am more than incensed that I did not get this information from the representatives in the first place, so I could call another company, besides this kind of price gouging. Now I am calling another company at 12:30. We have no water. No toilets. and water all over the basement, and I am supposed to go to work at 6:00 in the morning and we're on the back of the list for another company. How can they make me smile? Just had these people our for on our furnace program. They told us we had mold in our furnace and needed some whole house air purification system. Then our hot water heater should be replaced or an estimated $2,000.00. In addition, we have a Mitsubishi heat pump for a bonus room that had stopped working. They said it was beyond repair and that it would have to be replaced.....the estimate for that.......$7,000.00-$10,000.00. We thought that was very high and then remembered that our neighbor had just had a similar unit installed within the last 30 days, his price for a new unit and installation $3500.00!!!!! So home comfort would charge double on the low end of the estimate!!!! Double!!!! Then wanted us to do a monthly payment program, no way...I would not trust anything they say at this point.
