Went down and got a smog done from Chris today, great guy courteous, all about customer satisfaction. Sure saved a bunch of $$ rather than drive off the mountain. Called to see about coming in on a Saturday and if an appointment was needed - nope! "Just bring it in", he said, "and I can also handle the DMV Renewal too." That last part was for an extra, very nominal fee, but it was worth it. My wife's sentimental 1987 Honda passed with flying colors (he told us he would smog it a second time at no cost if it didn't, but it did). He took care of everything including all the DMV registration fees in less than an hour. Walked out with a smog-certified car and a full "DMV-paid renewal" registration form and a new sticker for the license plate - no need to do anything else. Friendly service, great air conditioned waiting room with complimentary drinks and free satellite TV (our choice of channels). Now if he only did repairs on cars too... read more

Very rarely do businesses hit the trifecta of fast, good, and inexpensive; but Five Star manages to do it every time I've visited. My last visit was to smog and register a car and I was in and out in less than an hour with no appointment. The really great thing is that you can go in with a renewal/smog notice from the DMV and leave with your registration and sticker; no mailing and no waiting in line at a DMV office. Five star has also handled every other bit of DMV paperwork with no problems, and their fees are less than the cost of gas to drive to a DMV office. I wish there was a way to give them even more stars! read more

5 Star is a small one man shop in Lubec and a local business. It is austere and "working man" modest as well as you may have to wait a few minutes to get served. I had not had to smog a car in over 30 years and thus, had not used a smog certification center. I kind of expected to have an experience where everything is another cost, hard sell for other stuff, just let me get out of here time. That's not 5-Star. He gets you a quote, you queue up and he runs the test. My car did not initially pass. I think it had to do with the fact I had replaced the battery recently. He explained I had to go drive it, at least 100 miles and when ready, he would check it again at no cost. It was inconvenient yet not his fault. At my second visit he hooked up a diagnostic device and explained my cars current computer status. This gave him confidence the car was ready to be rechecked. It passes and that's that. He was fair, communicated clearly, pricing was understandable and he did not jerk me around with my car. Cash will save a few $$. I recommend if you need a smog check, support this line local business. read more

They are properly named Five Star Smog Test center because that's the kind of service Chris, the owner, delivers. Not only can they give you a smog check but because they are connected up with the DMV through EZDMV and you walk out with your tags! Saves time and gas going to Taft or Santa Clarita. I had a 98 Mustang, paid the registration in Nov. and sat in driveway 'til today (MAY 21,'15) and needed smog and failed. Chris told me no to change plugs, filter, etc. yet but change the battery and gave me a one-day permit to operate and said to drive the car to reset the car's electronics. I I have taken a few cars to Five Star to have smog checks and always had EXCELLENT service. Today I had to have a Title Transfer, Smog Check, New Plates etc etc.. Chris was so careful about every detail of the transaction that he entered to the DMV. He was very accommodating because I had to leave and come back an hour later due to my schedule. This was such a convenience to have this service in Lebec with such great customer service. His technician (who I think is name Chris also) is so nice and polite and professional. This is the second car that the technician Chris has done and both times he also provided top service with a servant attitude and a positive smile on his face (even when he worked outside in 100+ degree weather). I am very thankful that Five Start Smog Test Center is a local business. I will continue to go there for our smog checks and all of our DMV needs. read more

This is the best and fastest smog testing station I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I was in & out in less than 15 minutes.
