We borrowed a friend's van to go camping and began to overheat going up the grapevine. After trying to solve the problem ourselves with more coolant we continued to run into issues. Sam took a look and quickly diagnosed the issue. He was willing to wait & get started on the problem while my father-in-law drove from SCV to deliver the part that wasn't available till the following morning. Once everything was delivered it was no time at all before we were back on the road feeling much more confident in our abilities to make it safely! Had my car towed here for the same problem initially I brought it in for ... did not ask me In advance if I authorized other repairs to be done if need be. Also they never bothered to call before, during or anytime of the repairs. In light of recent events that I witnessed in an online forum- I figure it's relevant to bring up that my Mother and I came in a few years ago for AC repair and they did a bunch of work that she didn't sign off on and she being a Mom of 5 couldn't pay for and refused to pay for it. He refused to admit that he didn't have a signature for the work done, not to mention the AC never did work after that. Also, you can't judge a place of business just by the 5 star reviews. Of course- there's always someone who hasn't had an issue with a place who does poor, unprofessional business. That's just how it goes. But there is always going to be someone who sets the bar a little higher. Mostly what I see is family friends reviewing or commenting on the quality of this business. Unfortunately I've heard quite a few bad horror stories of people who've hired this shop and then we had to deal with the outcome at a DIFFERENT shop. After my mother's & I's experience here I can't possibly have anything positive to say about the place. Not to mention the way that the owners/associates treat, speak & converse with their customers on AND offline is the biggest issue of all. No matter what- there is no reason at all to frequent a business that has no skill in its physical labor and workings, but none in the customer service department either. When a customer explains their issues with the service they received - no matter if you think it's true or not you do not tell a customer to come "down there" as a threat. Now they are threatening to sue everyone for posting a bad review? We were treated awfully and to RAISE your voice at her, especially to refuse to give her her keys and speak disrespectfully? -BEWARE OF THIS SHOP- You will be overcharged, not be communicated to, and possibly even cussed out unless you are Sam's family or friends. My car broke down in the Grapevine so I had it towed here. I would have been better just abandoning it by the road. When my insurance adjuster was trying to get basic photos of my car from Sam, it took an entire 10 days until he finally sent them over. Sam is a terrible communicator. I would call and leave him messages and he wouldn't respond for days (also note, he charges $50 every day for storage fees). When I asked him for clarity, he called me back and cussed me out. He sent me a final bill that was outrageously overcharged for doing nothing. What a scam! I ended up having to abandon my car and giving over the title to Sam since he overcharged me. AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COST! read more

This place was a life saver. I was on a road trip from Los Angeles to Portland, and blew a head gasket on the way up near Gorman, CA. I asked the AAA tow truck driver to take me to FAS Auto, and he deliberately took me somewhere else, saying all the shops in the area were about the same. At this point I had already called FAS and told them I was on the way, so I took my very broken 2003 Toyota Camry and drove it the few miles across town to them. They identified the problem and let me know it would take at least a few days. I unpacked my things, rented a car and continued my road trip. A week and a half later, I came back to the shop to pick up my car. There was a some level of disappointment when I learned that my car wasn't ready, and it was going to cost me more than I had been quoted, but the guys explained that there was nothing that could be done about the cost since there was more to be repaired than what they had thought before they opened up the car. I waited at the shop for a few hours, and the car was ready to go. Anyways, I wanted to wait to write a review until I knew that the repairs were indeed solid, and a year and half later, the car is still running great. We broke down just a couple of days ago on I-5 during the heat wave with a busted coolant reservoir, among other things, and Panorama Towing Service referred me to Sam and boy, do I owe Panorama, because Sam really saved us. I have a BMW, hard to get parts for, hard to service, but Bill had our car running nice & smooth again in less than 24 hours. He very calmly showed me everything that was broken, explained the how and why and even let me know that if anything else went wrong on the drive back (we had 4 hours left to San Jose), what the probably cause would be. Everybody at FAS was very polite and did excellent work and we got home that night, safe and sound. I wish you could put a zero star review. Where to begin. DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE. My truck broke down on the grapevine, I had it towed to this shop for a turbo replacement, I was excited to hear that sam could fix it same day! I even had them do an oil change while I was there, during the proce of repairing my truck Sam decided that rather than flushing my intercooler properly he would just drill a hole in it and rev my truck until all the oil was out and plug the hole with a screw, then 300 miles later as I'm just about to get home I lost all oil pressure, I pulled over and checked my oil, nothing on the dipstick. It lost almost 3 gallons of oil in 300 miles. After investigating to find where the oil went I found the turbo return line was improperly installed in the engine block and the oil was POURING out, after contacting Sam I was told at first he was on vacation but to send pictures, I went days without hearing anything back and only did once I informed him I was contacting the BAR and filing a complaint, I was told by Sam he would look into it, after the two weeks he said he would be on vacation I contacted him once again with the estimate for replacing my engine which his repair effectively destroyed to the response "nothing I did". I am now working with the BAR and a lawyer to fight this inept mechanic and get my truck repaired. read more

My Rexall Areo tour bus was broken down for two days in Lebec CA try calling everyone everyone had 2 to 3 week waiting list ,mobile mechanics never even returned my phone call.. I called Andrew he said I can't get it today cause I'm closing the shop up right now ,but I'll get to it first thing Monday morning showed up Monday these guys really know their stuff,/ figured out why I was overheating told me things to do in the future to keep it from overheating ..really went through it thoroughly I was very impressed ,Sam,Andrew and Josia are excellent mechanics and they really know what they're doing....They gave me an estimated estimate ,they didn't put any extra parts on there that weren't needed ,in-fact I brought a part for them to put on there ,they said I didn't need it ,so they didn't charge me labor for that they're very honest mechanics, and in this day and age ,in the middle of nowhere I was extremely thankful and grateful and it renewed my faith in mankind... Just as I'm getting ready to get on the freeway to go home after a long weekend of camping with friends, I notice the needle in the red for my engine temperature. After calling friends from the gas station parking lot and trying a few things, it was obvious I would have to get lodging overnight and have it looked at by a professional mechanic. The folks at the Motel 6 recommended FAS for anything having to do with overheating. I showed up when they opened the roll doors first thing next morning. I was a little leery, as Subaru's are known for being extremely fussy cars that can stump mechanics who don't work on them regularly. But I had no choice.... I was stranded in a mountain town. Turns out I got lucky. This is a fantastic family run shop. They diagnosed it as a cracked radiator, showed me to prove it, ordered the part, and kept the shop open late so I would not have to stay another night. I picked up my car at 8:30pm (and they still had two more cars to go). They really work hard to take care of their customers. And (this is a first for me), the next day I got a phone call from FAS. Per our discussion about Subaru's, they just wanted to follow up to make sure their work stood and that I got home safe. (Who does that these days!?!... Lots of people enjoy talking shit when they're mad, but they seldom feel inclined to spread the positivity of their experiences because that's expected, so just let me say thank you to Sam, and his entire family! While traveling along the Grapevine heading northbound to Manteca, my boyfriend's muffler bracket had broke and his muffler started bouncing all along the road. We eventually unbolted it and drove to a nearby truck shop, they were unfortunately were not licensed to work on cars and sent us down the Road to FAS Automotive. Here we were greeted with smiling faces and lovely dogs to pet while his muffler was being welded. After the repairs had been made we went to go pay, but Sam did the repairs for free out of the goodness of his heart. I had a breakdown on I5, miles from home, and these guys really went out of their way to help me out. Though my old truck gave us some headaches, and though the repair took longer than I would have liked, I had a great experience with these guys. They were really nice people, and exceptionally generous with their time and expertise. They didn't charge me much, and though we had a little trouble getting my old truck going again, diagnostics, ordering parts and such, I really couldn't have asked for more. Although it was pricy to replace my radiator and thermostat, FAS did complete the job within 5 or 6 hours when I was on my way South to LA and my car overheated just before hitting the grapevine. I got towed to FAS and they quickly diagnosed my car and ordered the parts and did the job. I was back on my road trip the same day. These guys totally saved my butt! I was on my way to the bay area from LA and my steering wheel started shaking like crazy. I called FAS and described what was going on and they said it was probably my rotars. When I showed up Sam immediately took my car out for a test drive and confirmed it was in fact my rotars. He even picked the part up while he was out on the test drive. They started work on my car right away and in about an hour they were done! I was in real trouble when my 5th wheel trailer had a bearing failure and I almost lost my wheel at the top of the Grapevine. After a couple calls I was told that FAS auto was the place to take it for a repair. It turned out the parts had to be special ordered so my trailer ended up stranded for nearly a month. I had to travel home without my trailer. There were no complaints from Sam regarding this and he did a great job to get me going once again. This is a great family owned business. read more

Wasted my time, held my car for too long, overcharged, and ultimately did not fix anything. They had bad attitudes and openly cursed me out when I mentioned I may need to try and take it elsewhere if they were not going to complete it on a timeframe I required. Called back later to ask what part they had recommended (could not afford at the time) and they couldn't tell me--so terrible record keeping which is ironic cause they wasted a lot of time typing their assessments of each car's issues. Guess typing is not a strong suit when you are not that intelligent--as both mechanics and the woman at the front desk were clearly suffering from that deficiency. Pretty funny watching that bonehead try to type and get all frustrated actually. But it literally ate up 20 mins of my time and he got visibly angry when you tried to talk to him as he typed--you know like someone who does not read/write/use computers well does when they are frustrated. Changed my tires and left the hub caps in the trunk... uh what? Are you serious? Put the hub cap back on bonehead. read more

Had our radiator replaced there the same day and got back on the road. Had a discrepancy on the final bill and Sam fixed it real quick and made it right.
