Pumping out local alternate music sice the the late 70's 3D radio (93.7FM) is a jem on Adelaide's…read moreairwaves. Catering to the counterculture, young aspiring musicians and radio presenters, activists, political sorts and generall allround wierdos, 3D is up there with my favorite radio stations. The music is diverse, from the heaviest of metal to the chilledest of trance. Hiphop, reggae, indie rock, acoustic, folk and whatever else is going, if it is new, local and entirely unproffessional then you will prbably hear it on 3D radio. Entirely special to 3D is the Monday night event known as the Hillbilly Hoot, which is conducted in an old shed (however I always imagine a chicken coop) out the back of the station. It is effectively hillbilly open mike, although run by a few regulars, and broadcast live on radio, and is generally hilarious. The range is broad, from quite talented to really not talented at all, but the vibe is fantastic and each session is brought to a close by an all in rendition of that hillbilly gospel classic "Will the circle be unbroken." A must to check out if you are slightly interested in that sort of music, slightly interested in strange phenomena, or play an instrument, sing (not neccessarily well) and merely just want to want to have a go yourself. The Anifex animation effects studio is a space you can hire and a group you can employ or engage to…read morerealise an advertising campaign for example or to make your own original film. In terms of hiring the space they have the green screen or blue screen studio set up you use when dropping a background behind your performers in a short film, commercial or feature; and the space has a good sized kitchen facility attached. All the lighting requirements are available and the folk who run the place can either advise you as to whom you may employ as a lighting technician or they can provide someone. There is a purpose built stop-motion camera studio where the painstaking process of creating clay-mation or stop motion animation takes place and there is also a workshop where props and puppets are built, and you can commission an artist to create your characters if you decide you are not capable of doing it yourself. Costs are pretty competitive in terms of hiring the space, but obviously making a film or stop motion animation is not something you can do with a small amount of money. The studio has won many awards over the years and you may be amazed at how many familiar adverts you see on television have been produced here.
