Tarfin is the best mechanic ever. A dealer told me I needed a major repair. I brought it to Tarfin. He said it was normal seepage and did not need a repair. He told me the dealer is a salesman. He is a mechanic. A single woman friend went to Fixers. Tarfin made an adjustment, closed the hood and repaired the problem, She asked how much she owed him, thinking that as a single woman he was going to charge her an arm and a leg. I recently brought my car here after noticing for a month that it was slow to start. This place was close to my house and also had good reviews. Tarfin was able to diagnose the problem that day (it was due to a faulty starter) and after getting a new starter a few days later that he had to order, he spent a few hours on a Saturday fixing my car. My car battery died and I was unable to get my car to the shop before they closed, but the owner was so helpful and accommodating letting me leave my car there that night after closing so it would be ready the next day. The owner had my car fixed very quickly, and I was able to pick it up as soon as I could. In my overall experience, the service was quick, well done, and communication was easy and efficient. Very nice, very quick. I read the negative reviews more than the positives. I had my brakes down there. I probably could have saved $200 at a midas type assembly line, but this place was within walking distance to my house. I used to do all my own repairs so its been a long time since I've had to pay someone to work on my cars. Well, like I said the price wasn't the cheapest. The parts were marked up 10-20% over what I could get from a parts warehouse online, but you have to remember, that doesn't include shipping and doesn't include the fact he gets the parts the same day. So parts prices were reasonable. I'll probably go there again, bottom line if only for convenience. I probably wouldn't drive far to get her, so that's my test. If you are looking for a mechanic that is 50% of normal, that's not here. I'd said its about normal on labor prices. MAY2016 Update to my previous review. I took them from 4 to 5 stars after trying a few other places out. Tarfin is great and honest. He spent 2-3 hours troubleshooting to find a broken $10 part where the 'specialist mechanic shop' for that type of car just wanted $8k to replace the most expensive part of the system, without even looking around. I sometimes wish my cars weren't getting so old as to need his services as often, but he is good, nice, and honest. read more

I brought my 2009 Acura MDX with 110k miles into Fixers for an oil change and to replace tire pressure monitoring sensor. Tarfin suggested resetting the factory settings instead of replacing the sensor. I also mentioned that I had a vibration in the transmission that I had checked at the dealer three times unsuccessfully. Since it was sporadic, it was difficult to assess if the fix was correct and I didn't want to tackle it on this visit. Resetting the settings fixed both the sensor and the vibration! Auto repair shops are notoriously difficult to rate. I look for honesty and experience, understanding that it may not be right the first time. Just don't give up until it's a mutual agreement. Get an estimate up front so everyone is on the same page. You won't be disappointed with Tarfin and Crina! read more

I would not recommend this shop to anyone, they are extremely rude and over priced. I pulled my car into their shop on the way home because my alternator was going out, and this mean little old man was so rude and reluctant to give me any type of quote so I did not feel comfortable or that I could trust him so I literally started my half dead car back up in the pouring rain, and just drove it down the street to another mechanic that was way nicer and welcoming. I know this place is over priced because he wouldn't give me any type of quote, even though my car was there in his shop, I knew it was the alternator, I had the new alternator with me because i had planned on having it changed that week, and I was standing there for over 45 minutes while he acted like he wanted nothing to do with me. He could have easily taken a quick look and gave me a price but he likely wanted to try and rip me off since he thought my car was dead at his shop. The only pricing he gave me was for a tire balance which he said would be $80 when most places will balance and rotate your tires for $40-$50. Give me a break!!! There are other really good and affordable mechanics in the area, I strongly recommend taking your car to any other shop besides this one unless you want to be treated like you're an inconvenience and want to get ripped off! read more

Great service, quick, and honest. I brought my car in to get a second opinion on a noise my car made. The owner told me the cause of the noise and the part that needed to be replaced. He recommended that I wait another 40,000 miles before replacing the part since the defective part wouldn't cause any damage to my car and it would be expensive to replace. Lexus doesn't sell that part alone, so I would have had to pay for parts I don't currently need. I tried to pay the owner for his time, but he refused to accept any money from me. read more

I have been a customer of Fixers for a couple of years and they do a wonderful job keeping my cars in great condition. I have used Fixers for major repairs (AC Compressor, etc) as well as routine maintenance and in all cases they are very forthright with accurate and reasonable estimates and have provided me with loaner cars when I am in a bind for transportation. None of the repairs have ever required rework or failed. I am very happy with Tarfin and Crina and would recommend them without reservation to anyone. The people at Fixers are terrific. They're honest and will let you know if they can help you and if not, give you a recommendation on who can. I brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee in which is having transmission issues. They do not work on transmissions though. Still, they explained to me what the problem was and gave me a lot of tips on what I should expect when dealing with the dealership service shops. By the way, the dealership wouldn't even talk to me until I brought it in and they ran a $159 diagnostic test even though these are known issues, and they said it would need to leave my vehicle there a couple days before they would look at it. They wouldn't take an appointment either. I had taken the my Jeep into a different dealer before and they denied that there was a problem when it was still under warranty. At Fixers, I walked right up and they immediately talked to me and knew the issues. I'll only bring my vehicles to them from now on. read more

Here's the summary: I took my car to Fixers three times for a fairly routine repair (loose heat shield in the engine). After spending ~$100, the problem was not solved. I found another mechanic that solved the problem in 15 minutes and charged my $30. Fixers refused to give me a full refund (they gave me back $20) after haggling for over an hour. ------------- Full version: I did not have a good experience here, which was disappointing given the good reviews on here. I took my car into this shop for a noise underneath the car. I had researched the problem and was pretty sure it was a loose heat shield, which I mentioned to the mechanic. I picked up the car later, and was told the heat shield (under the car) was removed. They did not charge me for this, and I was very happy, so I decided to get my oil changed there to give them some business (I believe the oil changes are over-price here). I picked up my car and drove it home. The same noise reoccurred 30 seconds later. I took the car back, and I explained the situation. The mechanic told me to bring it back, which I did several days later. He replaced a pipe hanger underneath the car, which cost me about $100 for parts and labor. When I drove off, I AGAIN heard the same noise. I took the car back and he told me it was just noise that an old car makes and that it was nothing to worry about. My reaction was - "Then why did I just spend all this money?" I took the car to another mechanic, who diagnosed the problem in about 15 minutes. It was indeed the heat shield (in the engine), and it cost me about $30 to get this fixed. Please note my car has two heat shields: one in the engine and another underneath the car. When I drove the car, the noise was gone. I then took my case for a refund to Fixers. I will say overall they were nice, but they were very stubborn. They kept telling me that "noise travels" and "noises are hard to diagnose." He kept saying that he can't give a refund because he put labor and a new part into the car. My argument was that he didn't solve my problem I came to him with. I told him that the other place had removed the heat shield, which he said was impossible given that he had removed the shield under the car. He said he would give me a full refund if I went to the other mechanic and brought back the shield. I did. But he backtracked on his offer, and we argued for at least an hour. Finally, they gave me $20 back (after telling me that they didn't know how to refund my money), and it just wasn't worth my time anymore. Long story short, I took my car to Fixers three times for fairly routine repair, and I was charged $100 for work that didn't fix my problem. I also found another mechanic that fixed the problem in 15 minutes that charged me much less. I will grant them they were nice, and gave me some money back. However, I should have gotten a full refund. I will never go back here. read more

I took my Dodge Viper in a few days ago to get the air conditioning looked at since it wouldn't blow cold anymore. I am always wary of taking it somewhere new, because a lot of places would see a Viper pull in and see dollar signs and try to run up your bill. Not this place! The owner Tarfin and his wife Crina were very friendly and Tarfin had it checked out and recharged in a few hours. He is highly knowledgeable and is a neat guy to talk to since he fled communist Romania many years ago. I found them to be very kind and enjoyed talking to them and Tarfin talked me through what he thought the problem might be and made me feel comfortable about him doing the work. **DISCLAIMER: I haven't had any work done at Fixer that's technically mechanical (though I certainly will if the need arises), but my sensor light for having a tire low on air keeps coming on, even though I've just had the air checked and adjusted. Every time, the owner quickly figures it out and fixes the problem. Sounds simple enough, but the problem has been different every time, and when I say "quickly" I mean in under 5 minutes. We went to Fixers because they received a good review here and...THEY WERE RIGHT! This is a TrUStwOrThY mechanics place. These are difficult to come by so when you find one you better hold on to it. I really like this place. The owner is extremely nice and very talkative. I had a seal break on my master cylinder hose that he replaced. After a while the other seal that's under the car deteriorated and he did not charge me for that one. That's at least 2 hours of work! Any other mechanic would have charged me $150+. I took my car to Fixers because it's down the street from our house and because I saw all the positive online reviews (I typically go to the dealership, but it's on the West side of town and it's an ordeal). I thought it would be an easy fix as I had an idea what the problem was. Long story short, I was charged $300 and when I went back to tell him my check engine light was still on he recommended I take it to the dealership to see if it had an electrical issue. I took it in the next day and that's when I found out he replaced the wrong part...so ANOTHER $300 spent at the dealership to get it fixed. Lesson learned! read more

Technically probably competent, but here's what happened and you judge: My driver's side window (electric) would go down halfway, and when I would try and close - it continued down! Eventually went down....and stayed there, fully open. Brought it to Fixers, who took a look and said I would need to replace the electric switch (and motor? I forget now), for about $700 (Lexus SUV). I thought that quite a bit for a switch, so started to see if I could get a used/overhauled one online. And here's what I found within 10 minutes of Googling; spray a bit of WD40 on the switch, toggle a few times and see what happens. About a year later now, window still goes up and down properly, and I spent $700 less than Fixers recommended. Again; can't say they were entirely wrong, but certainly I would think that years of experience should suggest other than the obvious - replace with new parts! read more
