I'm new to Texas I called to inquire if they performed the emission test required for license plate registration. The individual I talked to (sorry I don't remember his name ) was very friendly, stated they do perform the test and gave me an idea of what to expect and how long it would take. He then confirmed that they could perform it now. When I arrived they took my car right in and the test completed in the length of time I was told. I dropped the engine-cap down into the engine area (after adding some oil) and could not find it. Took my sputtering car to Heights Mobil Car Care. They used a remote camera to spot the errant cap but could not reach it either. They put my car up on the lift and retrieved the cap (in seconds!). They handed me my keys with a smile. I asked what I owed them - they said "nothing." I was facing a 160 mile drive home and was worried I would likely do all manner of damage to my car with that cap off. Y'all they are the best, honestly. They remember you, or your car, and are always happy to delve into conversations about what needs to be done. They don't just say, oh it's your blah blah and walk away. I am buying my first car, on my own, and I bought a used 2024 Hyundai Venue from Autonation Acura. They have a 5 day/250-mile return policy so I brought the car in for a pre purchase inspection. So glad I did. The car had "secrets" as Kirk said lol. After reading what they had seen and looked at the pics, I decided to just cut my loses and return it. Glad I brought the paperwork that detailed the issues cause Autonation was like, oh we can look at it and then I showed them the pics and they said, oh. On to the next place to look. I cannot say enough about Heights Mobil Car Care (or as I have always called it, the garage at that Mobil station on W. 18th). For years, I've gotten my car inspections done there, but I recently took my Honda in for an AC problem. They diagnosed the problem, explained everything to me thoroughly, and then fixed it. AC works like new now, and their price was fair. Later in the week, one of my tires was going flat. I pulled into the station to use their air pump, but they immediately invited me to pull the car in so they could fill it for me. They found a nail (and air whooshing out of my tire) and plugged it for a super-reasonable price (took about 15 minutes, max). Everyone there is so personable and friendly. I've been taking my car here since I've lived in the Heights (I moved here in 2015 but not sure when I actually started taking my car), and I will be sad when I leave the Houston area because I will miss the hell out of this place. I brought my son's car in for an oil change and a trip check before he made the drive back to California for the fall semester of school. I was a little worried that I might have to pay for significant maintenance service when only the Honda dealership service records were available on Carfax. He had his car serviced last winter at another shop that apparently didn't enter the records into Carfax. I was so impressed when Mobil reviewed all the records of what had been done at various times to deduce what was completed and what might need to be done at this time! It would have been easy for any shop to just tell us we should do "all the things" (for all the money) just to be certain. High marks for honesty! I will definitely bring my son's car back here whenever service is needed and I have already recommended them to another friend who needed service for their car! read more

I called at 9:45 AM to get a quote to find out how much they would charge to get a Volvo starter replaced. To which I called and I spoke to a lady who transferred me to I believe was the service manager, and he was quite patronizing in his tone, regarding the specifics of what I diagnosed as the problem. He said "how do I know it's the starter and not the battery?" I said it" I know it's not the battery because I changed it." Then he says "well how do you know it's not ignition switch. " I said I know it's a starter because it's making a clicking sound. Now, I don't mind the series of questions. It's just the underlying tone behind it, and the fact that they never called me back. An they stated they were going to call me back to which they never did and it is 9:03 PM as I'm writing this review. Also, since I know they are very responsive and they will read my review. I did get that problem fixed without an diagnostics. TLDR: starter was a problem and fixed it elsewhere . Main mechanic is patronizing. read more

I felt like I needed to leave a review for the great service I received, I found this shop on Yelp because of the great reviews and they definitely lived up to the expectations. I initially tried to take my truck to the dealership for a few items that needed to be repaired, I have an extended warranty and everything should be covered. The dealership told me on a Monday morning at 8 am that there were 40 cars ahead of me and they wouldn't be able to even look at it for a week, then it could take another week to actually fix. My horn wasn't working, the parking sensor was glitching and the rear seat screens for my kids were flickering. I called and spoke with Kurt and he walked me through the warranty process and told me he could look at it the next day. I received daily text updates and my car was done in 2 days! Everyone was so kind, and I felt like it was truly a carefree and amazing service. This is how all trips to the mechanic should be, I will be bringing my wife's car here for a repair soon. 5 stars. read more

Why did I not go to Heights Mobil Car Care for my prior oil change in February? Convenience. Simple as that. The 'convenient' place was open, so, essentially poor planning on my part. Bad decision on my part, because the convenient place up charged me on items that were not necessary. Lesson learned. Today I got the oil change completed and state inspection, all for less than the price tag of my prior oil change at the 'convenient' place. Again, lesson learned. I had always gone to Heights Mobil with my 2006 Saturn (which is still on the road!), until I bought a fancier car that I had to take to the dealer for the big things. Since 2013, I have gone to the same dealer for the computer updates and etc., same dealer, same employees. About two weeks ago, they called me to the front after my service and handed me an estimate for over $8000 in repairs and suggested that I buy a shiny new version. I said thank you, and then I went to see Gene at HMCC. I knew that he would be honest with me, and that if I did need work done he would prioritize which things were most urgent. They were busy, it was a Saturday, and the service manager said they could tell me what I needed, but they would have to do the work later since they close early on Saturdays. The "dealer" told me that my rear brakes were metal on metal and dangerous to drive. The mechanic at Heights Mobil inspected my front AND rear brakes and drove my car. He spent around two hours. Afterwards the manager went into great detail about rotors on European cars, told me the pads were fine, and that my car was safe. I did need something minor done to the suspension, but it could wait a little. Also, for loyal customers, I was told "no charge today" which after receiving that gigantic estimate from the "dealer" just made my whole week and relieved a mountain of stress after being told I was driving a death trap, even though the car has a reputation as being a very safe car. (So you probably know what kind of car it is.) Between the owner Heather who is there every day talking to all the customers and employees, and Gene who is a car genius, the shop is always busy, well run, filled with repeat customers, and everyone who works there is pleasant and helpful. It is so hard to find an honest shop with excellent mechanics and friendly people. I always wait for my car while it is being worked on, because it is just a fun and upbeat place to be. read more

I recently rented a moving truck in Houston to drive some item to my home in CA. I stopped by Heights Mobil Station to check on a dash light that came on and to top off the gas. I was helped immediately with the dash light, low tire pressure, got all of the tires checked for pressure and punctures, NO CHARGE! And to my surprise, one of the guys there, Gene, noticed that I had forgotten to close the back door of the truck!!! In my rush to leave, get the dog settled in the truck, I had forgotten to close the big back door!! I can't even imagine what would have happened if I had driven off with the door open and a low tire..!! I topped off the tank and was soooo happy that I stopped in. Great customer service!!! His experience there differs greatly from my experiences over the past seven years at Heights Mobil. I noticed that the they responded to him by posting the text of the coupon. It would be very helpful if he posted again in response. It all seems in order to me and I can't make any decision based on his partial critique. People rarely come here to post the good stuff. So this is me posting the good stuff. I started going to Heights Mobil a little over seven years ago when we moved here from Dallas. I was going to a privately owned shop in Dallas too and it was important to me to find a great one here. And I did. Heights Mobil ... well, I would go any place else now. I have always felt like I am treated very fairly there and it is nice to go some place where they know my name. There are times when more needs to be done than I expected, but more times than not, they have advised me to wait on certain things that really didn't need to be done at that time. I used to think that there were things that I needed to go to the dealership to have done. In time, I learned the their work is exceptional, every bit as good as the dealership. They can really handle any problems. And I have never felt like I pay more there than other places. You know one of the things I like best? I take my car there every time I am headed out of town just so they can do a quick check of everything to be sure I will be safe on the raood. The charge for that? NOTHING !!! : -) And I am SO LAZY that I can take my registration sticker there when it comes in the mail and they will put it on for me !!! read more
