This hands down is my favorite Jamaican spot. The food has so much flavor. The spice is just right and the portion are nice. I vote Fiyahside number 1 hands down. The customer service is good the owner always has a nice smile and a warm welcome to Fiyahside. 5 stars are not enough.

Finding authentic Caribbean food in the Milwaukee area has been a challenge. I spotted Fiyahside restaurant while driving by on Villard Ave. The restaurant is in the same parking lot as a gas station. It's takeout only with a small waiting area that can hold about 5 people. The food was ready, hot, and the service was reasonably quick. Ordered a jerk egg roll and mini jerk chicken platter. The egg roll contained more filler than meat but overall tasted ok. The jerk chicken was good with the right amount of spice. I'm glad I got jerk sauce on the side bc it was thick and unpleasantly sweet. Unlike any jerk sauce I've ever had in the past. The rice was really sweet (like a little too much coconut milk) but was moist and well cooked. Cabbage was ok. I've lived in the Caribbean and eaten tons of island food. Theirs wasn't the best but also wasn't the worst. I would probably stop in again to try something else.

Oxtail's rice and beans & cabbage

Nope! Not good. The rice and beans are bland and taste funny, cabbage has no flavor and seems undercooked. As far as the chicken in the eggrolls, it was not seasoned and just didn't taste good. The picture of my food looks good but it was not. The jerk chicken was just ok and I will not be back. I will stick to Uppa Yard food and Pepper Pot's eggrolls.

I have tried a wide range of Jamaican Restaurants in Milwaukee and I have to say of all the restaurants (Uppa Yard, Irie Palace, Pepper Pot, etc;) this was the best in my opinion.

Overall, I will say the service here was really good in a Saturday night but there was not a huge crowd. They made sure we were well taken care of and my friends enjoyed the drinks. As for the overall food it wasn't my mom's kitchen but it was still solid. I do wish there cabbage had some more flavor and that jerk chicken had more of Smokey flavor that you get from true roadside chicken. Overall for Milwaukee I think this place is worth a try to see if it fits your tastebuds.

I visited Pepperpot when I was walking by and noticed they were a new addition to the neighborhood…read moresince I had last passed through. It was a Friday night but I was the only dine-in customer when I first walked in. Later a few more came in and there was a steady stream of takeout customers. The building is very spacious and has room for plenty during busy periods. The staff was really nice, even when some unrulier customers came in. They checked in on me and brought me a box right away "just in case" when I could tell I would be taking some food home. The portions are huge. I had to try their jerk egg rolls and I wanted curry chicken but they were out of curry so I got jerk chicken instead. The jerk seasoning was really infused into the chicken skin and they brought out more jerk sauce. My meal came with rice and beans and braised cabbage--I almost wanted more of those in proportion to the meat. The egg rolls were similarly large and were accompanied by sweet chili sauce. I only ate one of my two to save room for my entree and took the other one home. One quirk to keep in mind is there's an automatic 18% gratuity for all dine-in orders, even for one person. There were signs everywhere but I still almost forgot when I got the bill. There's a bar and there seems to be entertainment for the bar crowd as well. Would like to try the salmon or the Rasta pasta next.

Visited Sabor Tropical Restaurant recently for dinner on a Sunday evening…read more We were immediately greeted and seated. The restaurant itself was impeccably clean and welcoming. I started out my experience with their Pisco Sour. I prefer the Peruvian style Pisco Sour (with egg whites and bitters), they serve it in the Chilean fashion (sans egg whites and bitters). It was aok if that's the style you prefer! For our starter, we got the tostones rellenos, which were the star of the evening for me. So flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Perfection! For my main dish, I got their salmon tropical, which is grilled salmon over whipped potatoes with cilantro, mango, onion, and avocado on top. It's also served with asparagus, which was pitch perfect. All in all--it was a fresh and tasty dish! For dessert, my dining companion and I opted to share their nutella flan. I found it to be overly, cloyingly sweet and wouldn't likely order dessert here again. The service was attentive and the prices were reasonable. Get to it!

The place has outdoor seating in front and the inside has a nice bar with big front windows and tables/chairs. The bar menu for a tropical restaurant had a small tropical drink menu I thought but the strawberry mojito sounded good. The strawberry mojito was good but for all I know it was a kiddie cocktail because it didn't taste like an adult beverage because it didn't taste like an alcohol beverage. The blond woman with the hypnotic/beautiful accent working the whole room by herself did a great job. The menu has so much good stuff on it that it's hard to pick a dish so I opted for the Latin inspired signature sampler which is empanada choice of meat, steak quesadilla, tostone ralleno pork, three mango bbq wings and tostones. The food took a bit to hit the table but it looked good when it did. Everything was delicious/flavorful and seasoned nicely. I enjoyed everything on the plate so it's hard to pick one over the other except the wing's because wings are everywhere. The pork was moist and seasoned nicely as well as the tender steak quesadilla, it's all very good. Overall I really like my lunch and I'm so glad that I stopped for something different and they did a great job.

Amazing Jamaican Food & Even Better People…read more Tried this spot for the first time tonight and it was incredible. We had the jerk ribs and the brown stew chicken with rice, cabbage, corn, and plantains--every single thing was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The chef even surprised us with some jerk rolls, which were so good. Service was excellent from start to finish, and we got to meet the owner, Jessica, who was fun, friendly, and clearly passionate about what she's built. Highly recommend--can't wait to come back!

Butler WI…read moreis not known for a diverse food scene and this Jamaican restaurant is way out of place to start with. The place has a cool lounge vibe and probably the coolest place in Butler WI. My service was friendly and fast. I would have to go with the classic jerked chicken meal as my first time trying the place that comes with jerked chicken, mini hot corn on the cob, rice/peas and cabbage. The cabbage was probably the best from a Jamaican restaurant that I can remember because it was spicy. The corn cob was also very good because it was cooked in a broth of some sort and very different from regular corn on the cob. The rice and peas were also good with some spice but lacking any depth of flavor. The jerked chicken was good with moist meat and that classic dark skin but it needed the jerk sauce on the to get its flavor potential on point. Overall was the food good, yes. Was it the best jerked chicken no because that south side place is still my favorite. Would I go back for more of the menu, definitely.

McCoco's stood out to me so I decided to give it a try. The service was great- it's a small establishment and once we walked in someone immediately greeting us and sat us down. The ambiance was very pleasant. They had pictures of the Caribbean on all the tvs and it felt very tropical Once we were sitting we got a complimentary bowl of soup. It was so warm and perfect for the cold day. I forgot what it was called but it was very delicious. Food I would say overall was good. I was hoping the tostones to be a bit more crispier and a little more garlicky tho /: My mofongo was good too - again missing just a tad more garlic. The meat was well seasoned and very tasty. My boyfriend got the Jibarito and he basically said the same thing about the garlic and crispiness of the tostones and his jibarito sandwich. I would still recommend this place tho! And I would for sure come again to explore the rest of the menu (: 3 1/2 - 4 stars overall

All told everything we had was fantastic. We will absolutely be back and will have to visit in person one day.
