Tried AppeThai for the first time and ordered takeout. The parking was easy, which is always a plus, and my food was ready quickly. The place itself was clean, well-lit, and had extra seating for people waiting on orders. I got the Pad Thai with beef and ordered it "hot." The flavor was really good, but the heat level was a bit more intense than I'm used to. Next time I'd probably go mild. The crispy spring rolls and crab rangoon were both great, especially with the sauces. I also had the black pepper shrimp with jasmine rice, and that was delicious. Overall, solid experience. I stopped at AppeThai to place an order to go before an event at nearby Brown Deer Park. It was 4:45pm, so just before any sort of dinner rush, and all I ordered was beef pad see ew and veggie spring rolls. I was quoted 15 to 20 minutes. At the 30 minute mark I asked to be refunded so I could leave because I was now going to be late meeting people at the park. The hostess apologized and went into the kitchen to talk to someone about it. From the dining room I heard someone laughingly exclaim "he wants a refund?". The hostess then came back out and told me that no one was working who could give me a refund. My food finally came out 5 minutes later, so 15 minutes past the longer end of the estimate. I don't frankly care how the food tasted (I've had better beef pad see ew elsewhere and the greasy spring rolls were 95% cabbage and glass noodles). The customer service was horrible. I don't buy for a second that no one was there that could give a refund and it certainly wasn't a request that should have been laughed at. Given their poor customer service, mediocre food, and high prices, I'm surprised they manage to stay in business at all. read more

Absolutely love love love AppeThai. We love take out and dine in. They are great at accommodating certain dietary restrictions so there's something to eat for the whole family. The drinks, mocktails, food, apps, desserts. Everything is always so tasty and the service has always been nice. I have never had a reason to not be happy with this place or its food truck for that matter. Definitely worth stopping in or taking out. read more

The food and service was excellent. The diner has a choice of spiciness for most of the selections from 0 to 4. The ratings are accurate. They do not tone down their spice choices to only degrees of bland to suit the Midwestern taste, or lack of it. My wife was as happy with her 1 as I was with my 3. I do have to get used to the higher price of restaurants here, about 30-50% higher, compared to NJ. That's probably due to restaurants here not being very busy except for weekends. In NJ, good restaurants are bustling all week, so even with a higher labor cost in NJ a dinner out is so much lower. read more

I love Thai food, so I really wanted to like this place. But I have never eaten such salty food in my life. The curry tasted as if someone accidentally poured a whole bunch of salt into the food. The two times I have been here it'e been great. The first time we ate at the restaurant. We called beforehand and got a large table for our group. The place has a very warm feel. The place isn't too spacious but keeps a very Asian themeing. Entering we were welcomed by the staff that clearly enjoys their job. Staff can make or break a place and this place masters it. There a little trinkets you can buy from small businesses there. Sitting down we got to our table and may I say these chairs were very confertable. We ordered a few appetizers like crispy squid, soup and got some drinks. As we talked and waited I just admired the room around me. From the paintings to the light fixtures this place definatly dosen't skimp on looks. The squid was just ok(Im not a big squid guy anyways) but the soup was very flavorful and overall delicious. I ordered some noodles and beef. More waiting. There were 10 of us so as you know food can take time. This place is a favorite in the community. I have been told to go by many people. I think they have a fantastic reputation and really don't ever mess up. The food finally came and wow, they don't skimp on content. There was so much food. Very bad experience. We ordered Medium level spicy Pad Thai. It was extremely spicy. It was beyond hot level of spicy. When we complained about it and requested them to taste and see it for themselves , the manager argued that it was their standard. They replaced our food but they charged us for both. Their Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Man Noodles) was very well made especially with the taste of basil sauce covered very well over every noodle there. Their Basil Fried rice had the right amount of 'medium' level spice proportional to the amount of taste you get out of it which made the spiciness worth it. Plentiful of rice for two people. And their volcano shrimp had the a really unique sauce which was very tasty but not at all too sugary in any way. Went for the first time with a friend and this is our new go to Thai! We ordered the crab rangoons, massaman curry, and basil fried rice. The crab Rangoons were full of crab and the dipping sauce was bomb! Sweet and spicy and delicious! The massaman curry was so flavorful and creamy. It's pretty hard to find good Asian food when your not around the south side of the area. But this place was pretty good. I don't think it's as authentic as Thai Kitchen or even Thai Palace. But it was much better than Singha Thai. The restaurant is in a good area and interior is clean. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I like that they leave the pitcher of water at the table for you to refill your cup. The menu prices are a bit more expensive then you would see at other places in different areas, but the pricing is not out of line for this area. My friend and I ordered the fried spring rolls and crispy squid for appetizers. The spring rolls were small and nothing out of the ordinary. The crispy squid had good thick pieces of squid and batter was not too heavy. There was not much flavor but there is a sweet and sour dipping sauce. For dinner I had the volcano shrimp and chicken combo medium spicy and my friend had the vegetarian Pad See Ewe. The shrimp were pretty large and cooked well. And so was the chicken neither were overcooked. There were not a lot of vegetable on the dish. Could have had more. The Pad See Ewe plate was a large amount of noodles. Both of us are pretty used to spicy food so the medium was not spicy for us at all. We were able to add more dry crush Thai pepper to the meal. Over all it was a decent meal. With one amstel light, 2 appetizers, in 2 main dishes the bill came out to $54.91 with tax. Had left overs the next day and even tastier. read more

First off, their portions got cut back substantially in the past few months. They are using smaller plates and portions suffer. I can only say this for lunch, since I haven't had dinner here. Basil fried rice - Meh. It was spicy, and I saw a few leaves of basil but not enough to grant this dish its name. The rice wasn't fluffy like it usually is in fried rice anywhere. It was... how shall I put it... mushy? yes, it was mushy fried rice. I don't know whether this is true for all other fried rice dishes on their menu, but I'm afraid to try them. I can't really ask the servers either, because of what happened: While asking the server some questions on the menu, I asked what "holy basil sauce" was. she said she had no idea. And that was it. Went back and ordered the Thai basil fried rice with tofu and it was just as good as last time! Have you had food so good you want to eat it all even though you're already full?! This place has this type of good! Try it pronto and come back over and over again. I tried the Thai iced tea for the first time and it was refreshing, not overbearing sweet as I've had one elsewhere before where it gave me the impression that all Thai iced teas are too sweet. This one was awesome, I would try it again and so should you! They have a coat rack in case you want to hang your winter jacket while eating. :) If you're using a debit card, opt for credit card or cash instead, it may make it easier and faster to pay. read more

Still my favorite Thai place. Food is outstanding and service is always good. I used to go here all the time for lunch, but sadly my office moved downtown. I still come back for dinner when I can. Tonight was one of those nights. I had a craving for their Tom Kha Gai soup. It's sooooo good. Rich, creamy and spicy. We also ordered the Beef Waterfall Salad. My son love that this salad is mostly beef. We split the salad and the Drunk Man Noodles with chicken. Everything was delicious. We also had dessert. I had the lychee sorbet and my son had the fried bananas with coconut ice cream. The lychee sorbet was great, but the the fried bananas with coconut ice cream was out of this world. I am definitely getting that next time! Service was great. Friendly and efficient! The restaurant was pretty quiet on a Tuesday night, but nicely decorated with a modern Asian feel. I waited over an hour for a phone order that was supposed to take 45 minutes. While I stood alongside three people who were already impatiently waiting: The lobby filled up with with more people. Some wanted a table and were eventually shown to one. The rest were turned away because there were no more open tables (empty tables, yes. Available table, no). Others were waiting for orders, just like me. And then there were the people who had received their orders and doubled back because something was missing. Rice, a side, a soup...something. Almost every order was incorrect (including mine). So why five stars? I saw one server and one hostess. There may have been two servers- they were moving so fast that I couldn't really tell. But they were BUSTING THEIR ASSES. Mistakes were being made, people were getting impatient, but no one got rude. No one stomped off angrily. And why? Because the food is THAT GOOD. And when it's THAT GOOD, you're willing to put up with some inconvenience. And when you see the employees doing their absolute best in a situation that they are clearly not prepared for (who knows why), you can't be too critical, especially these days. My wife and I dined here last Saturday around 6 p.m. We had high hopes due to the high reviews but had a different experience than most. First, this place has genuine Thai dishes, but the flavors are lacking. My wife is from southern India and knows about Asian culinary culture (I am more of an amateur). App: We started with the crispy chili squid, a solid appetizer with a good peanut and chili sauce. The squid was cooked well, and the price was decent: $10. Entrees: The dishes had traditional names, but the taste was somewhat bland. We both had the traditional green curry. The spice level was great, with actual bamboo pieces, good chicken, and peppers. The only thing we didn't like about it was that it had a funny aftertaste that lingered for a bit (curries do, anyway, but it wasn't the most pleasant aftertaste). The portions were significant (I could finish like, but my wife took part of hers home, and we had some for dinner the next day). The price is standard at $17, including a bowl of rice. Drinks: I have learned -this time was the nail in the coffin- that Asian restaurants don't have strong drinks- somewhat due to the possible market of the general Asian population that doesn't have a great alcohol tolerance as compared to other places in the world- not a bad thing; just possibly why they were so watered down. I had a house Mai Tai, the most 'potent' drink on the menu. For a Mai Thai, it was not bad. It was a watered-down, typical of a Thai restaurant. (I thought, for being a Thai restaurant, they would've used dark rum, but it was not present.) The price was okay at $12. Then I had a drink called Jane's Passion--mango and some other kind of fruit-flavored rum--along with fruit juice concentrate. I was curious, so I tried it, and it tasted like only the fruit juice concentrate. At $16, the price for the flavor and taste was not worth it. My wife had a fruity mocktail with a bit of rum and a lot of mint that was overpowering. Dessert: We had Mango with sticky rice--the rice and the mangos were GREAT. I wasn't a fan of the sweet rice (and I love sweet things), but the mango was as fresh as can be in WI, and it was a deal at $8. Waitress: This was probably the thing I didn't like the most; we had three other couples around us (two more in the restaurant but had been dining already with different waiters), two of which arrived right before we did and the other right after we were seated. She was friendly and polite but waited on our table three times: once to take the order, once near the end of the meal, and at checkout. I was annoyed that she checked on the other three tables twice as much as she checked on us and didn't come to see us until right near the end of the meal; my wife and I wanted some drinks and had to wait a bit as flagging down was hard as she was busy with the other tables. Again, she was friendly and not the most attentive to our specific table. Overall, we probably wouldn't return again. It is very hard to find good, genuine Thai/Asian food in the Milwaukee area. read more
