This is my favorite place to go for Rican food! Their food has such great flavors and I love the service here, all of the waitresses are so nice and make sure you have everything you need. I love how its decorated too, think tropical Caribbean vibes!! Important to note that they recently got their alcohol license taken away so no alcoholic drinks there at the moment!!

The food is consistent and good. The portion sizes are phenomenal and I can never eat all my food. The server, Massy, was amazing. I love the vibrant island vibe.

I tried McCocos on a Friday night at about 5:30 - the restaurant steadily filled up during my time there. The staff was warm, welcoming, and brought us beef and chicken soup right when we sat down. Unfortunately, they don't currently have alcohol so we weren't able to try a margarita. But both the Mexican Tacos and Miami Tacos with steak were good. They came with a lot of food! The interior decor is neon and groovy, very unique!

I took my friend from out of town here and the food was amazing! It definitely gives you island vibes! The drinks were amazing! The new patio is nice! There's a hammock you can relax in and a swing to sit in for pictures. The music makes you want to dance while you wait for your food. Speaking of the food everything is cooked to perfection nor do you have to wait long. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Speaking of the patio you can also reserve it for a party. The menu is very reasonably priced. My favorite appetizer are the plantains.

Went here for lunch on a Sunday with a friend when it opened. The service was very good, as well as the drinks. I said the empanadas were too greasy, while my friend said they were too salty. Probably wouldn't order again. I ordered the chicken platter, while my friend ordered the steak platter. Both her and I loved the rice. She finished her steak, while I only ate about half of my chicken. Nothing wrong with it, just a lot to eat. Drinks were amazing and I would definitely return just for those, maybe not the food so much. This place's is decked out in lighting and is super cute on the inside. All-in-all, a pretty mid experience.

A BOGO meal?! Uh, yes, please! I tried through DoorDash and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food. I got the Empanada Colombianas De Pollo O Carne. So good! I liked the chicken the best. And the dipping sauce was amazing. For meals, I got the arroz con gandeles platter. You can pick a free meal, so I chose the Bandera pepper steak. Both were delicious!!

We are here right now. The food is amazing. Looks amazing inside but our waiter is mostly on her phone than doing her job.

The bilingual staff was fantastic and the ambiance was great, although the music was extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation with my friend. The food was good, but on the salty side. The dish I ordered said that it came with plantains, but they forgot to put it on the plate so we had to request it. The serving size was enormous, so I brought almost half of it home to have as leftovers. Since the name is Mc "Cocos" (coconut), I asked if they had any traditional dishes made with coconut like the ones that are typical in Venezuela, but they do not have anything made with coconut. For dessert, I ordered the flan, which was good, however, it was missing the traditional "caramelo". I hope the owner/manager reads this review and is able to make adjustments based on it (specially music column)because I would really like to go back and bring some of my Hispanic friends.

This is a recent book mark after seeing the unique menu so I stopped by for lunch. WOW this place is beautiful was my first impression as I walked in with color and a modern cool look. They have a nice bar and dining area which was clean and new looking with TVs all over playing colorful salt water coral and fish and some neon. This is way out of place for West Allis and should be in a hipper part of Milwaukee. The menu is very interesting with breakfast, lunch and dinner options and fancy cocktails. The chaofan platter was recommended of the two dishes I was looking at with choice of meat. The presentation was on point for a $12.95 platter I thought, someone has put money and serious thought in to making this gem of a restaurant in downtown West Allis and GREAT JOB. The chaofan platter comes with choice of meat and I chose grilled steak and onions with, chaofan rice and a side salad. The grilled steak was nothing fancy and a thin grilled sandwich steak that had a slight grilled flavor. The chaofan rice is a fried rice with vegetables, eggs and bits of beef and chicken that was tasty and seasoned nicely. The side salsa is more of a garnish. Overall if anyone follows my reviews you know that I like to try every style of food and some more than others but this is a very welcome restaurant for the city of West Allis. After moving to Milwaukee over 20 ago from Chicago with an awesome food scene I can honestly say that the Milwaukee area food scene has come a long way in that time.

This place is interesting. I had seen they had fun cocktails so we stopped by for drinks, they are about average priced to a little expensive for the area. Decor is unique with lots of neon and tvs. Staff was very friendly and had no issues with service.

Came for a light snack... Came to McCococs for a late snack and sat at the bar. Had a Mai Tai fried chicken wings. Overall, the drink was mixed well and The chic Ken wings were fairly tasty. Overall this restaurant May have more to offer in the long run so I will come back.

Side of mofongo

Two visits in, one for lunch a couple of months ago and one for dinner with the family tonight. The lunch is organized by side dish for the most part (tostones, arroz con gandules, white rice and beans, etc.) and you choose the protein to pair it with. McCoco's is a Caribbean restaurant with a focus on Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine, with a few Mexican and Columbian dishes, and an out-of-place "shrimp scampi" dish thrown in. Lunch was near perfect. I ordered arroz con gandules with pernil (roasted pulled pork shoulder) and sides of mofongo and tostones. The pernil was tender, moist, and really well-seasoned! The arroz con gandules was also tasty. The tostones on my first visit had a beautiful yellow color with a crisp exterior and fluffy interior, and the mofongo was nicely seasoned but could have use a bit more cruchy chicharron for texture. Tostones are made from green plantain. They are generally bland and rely on crispy texture and salt for flavor. They are often served with a 50/50 mix of ketchup and mayo as a dipping sauce (which Heinz figured out to bottle and sell). Maduros are made from ripe plantains, which provides a naturally sweet flavor. You'll find these on Carribbean menus, including Jamaican menus, and they'll simply be listed as plantains, but know that those are the sweet version from ripe plantains. Mofongo is made from mashed fried green plantain. Typically fried and mashed in a wooden bowl or pilon (pee LONE) and stuffed with meat, seafood, or veggies, or rolled into a ball with bits of crispy pork or chicharron, and deep fried. Tonight's visit was solid, too, with only minor marks against. I ordered the carne frita (fried meat, specifically pork) with white rice and beans and a side of tostones. You'll see a big difference my two photos of tostones from the two visits. In the earlier dated photo, the plantains were sliced at an angle and cooked in clean oil for the proper amount of time (typically slice around an inch thick, fry for a couple of minutes, removed from fryer, smash, then refry to complete the cook for another couple of minutes). The tostones today were cooked in oil that was used a lot, likely because of the very busy Mother's Day volume, and they were sliced straight, as opposed to t an angle. Today's tostones were not as good as the first visit, BUT the white rice, beans, and carne frita were all cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and very delicious! The pickled red onions on top of the carne frita were a nice touch. The other negative mark is for the yuca fries. They were undercooked. The color was closer to white than a golden color. They weren't crispy at all and the center wasn't soft and fluffy. They were also underseasoned. The pork empanadas we had as an app were also perfectly cooked and delicious, and while I liked the chicharron appetizer, what we received looked much different than the photo on the menu. It was a much smaller order than pictured, and not worth the $12, but the pieces had good flavor. Expect a good amount of fat I thought our service was great for the most part. We were a group of 10, and despite our server reading back our orders, one order was still missed and two orders came out LONG after everyone else had their food, so part server error and part kitchen error. I will go back again, and I do recommend you give them a try.

The place is small and the waitress didn't speak any English so a nice patron came to my rescue and translated my order, he asked me if I wanted everything on my sandwich and I said yes the was it's supposed to be and don't dumb it down for the Caucasian because I came here for the real deal food. I ordered the Tripleta sandwich with Puerto Rican rice. The Tripleta sandwich is roast pork, steak, ham, ketchmayo, cheese, lettuce and tomato on a roll of some sort. This $10 sandwich is a monster by the way. My first impression is all I taste is pork which I fine because it's good so I open the sandwich and all I see pork with a razor thin random ham piece and no steak at all. Regardless the sandwich was fu#king delicious piled/overflowing with tender pork. The hoagie roll was a great bakery artisan style French bread with a nice thin chewy crust, like my last review the bread really makes or breaks a good sandwich and they nailed this one. The Puerto Rican rice was also fu#king delicious, seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly just past Al dente but far from mush. I eat at so many restaurants and my memory gets hazy over the years but I really think that this was the best Puerto Rican restaurant I have been to and also it's probably what I ordered ala carte vs an entree on the menu.

Two things will happen today which is restaurant of the week and a Steve stop by. The place is nice looking with a tropical colorful theme. The have a steam table at the counter with some pre made goodness as a visual come on and get something. I ordered the rellenos de papa and the pork jibarito with PR rice. I will admit like the other reviews service was slow for me being the only person in the place and a good 10 minutes before I heard my sandwich sizzling on the grill. The rellenos de papa is basically a ball of mashed potatoes with a ground meat filling fried to a golden brown. This was bland and needed seasoning but still good with a thin crispy shell. The Puerto Rican rice was also bland with pigeon peas but cooked perfect Al Dente and not mushy. The pork jibartio was very good with a nice garlicky flavor. It's this crispy plantain fried nicely, hearty roast pork, cheese, lettuce, tomato and a very garlicky mayo and I mean fresh garlic flavor. This version was the tastiest, meatiest and biggest pork jibartio I have had in town. I enjoyed the food and like other reviewers I'm not going to take stars away for the slow service because I have never been to Puerto Rico and for all I know this is how service is in Puerto Rico. I have a known good place specific foods like pizza, burger etc etc and I think this will be my pork jibartio place because of the garlic Mayo.

Unlike other Boricuan restaurants, no one here speaks American English, but that doesn't even slow me down a little. When I've got a taste for chuletas, I'll figure out a way to get them on my plate. Besides, I wouldn't want to eat in a Puerto Rican restaurant where they could only speak English. So because my Spanish isn't very good, I end up ordering more of the different fried dumplinas, pastilillos, and empanadillos than I can eat because I'm never completely sure what's in them. You'd think I'd remember, but it doesn't matter, almost as good reheated the next day. Be careful, it's a dangerous intersection for pedestrians.

I stumbled on this Puerto Rican place and I wanted to try it because I don't really see true Puerto Rican places at all come to think of it. I have not had Puerto Rican food since I was a boy eating at my friends house and I can only remember that rice was always on the dish. The place is across from the El Ray food store on 13th St with plenty of street parking. The neighborhood looks a little worse for wear but that is where you can find some of the best ethnic/real food. If there is such a thing as Puerto Rican dive than this place is it with all the artificial trees and roosters all over the place. There is plenty of old green booths and tables on old linoleum floors. Up front is a hot table with empanadas, blood sausage, pork, plantains etc. The older man and woman were very helpful in assisting me with picking out a dish that would be a good representation of Puerto Rican food. The menu has so much that I really don't know what it all was but I probably would have liked all of it no matter what I chose. I chose the Bistec enpanado which is thin breaded steak, Puerto Rican rice and fried plantains with a side of ground beef and cheese empanada. When the plate hit the table it smelled amazing and was plentiful so there would be left overs to relive my lunch again. For the first time I liked the plantains because they were not hard but fried with the texture of a thick slice of cheese. The rice had great texture/flavor and was fluffy with individual grains, no sticky mushy rice here. The breaded steak was very tasty but I can't nail down the flavor profile which bugged me. The empanadas was crispy/golden tasty but they were skimpy on the ground beef and cheese filling because 3/4 of the inside was air, see my pictures. I really liked all the flavors from the dish but I think the nicely seasoned ground beef and cheese empanada was my favorite with the crispy golden she'll. Overall for my first real adult experience with authentic Puerto Rican food I liked it even though the style is not super flavorful with bold tastes or flavors/spices. I would definitely like to get back and try some more of the menu, maybe the roast pork or the cubano sandwich.
