One of the local reef focused fish stores in the Houston area. The owner, Dennis, is super knowledgeable and tries to help where he can. His shop has a variety of corals, fish, and some inverts along with lots of equipment available as well. I tend to call ahead of time to see if he has specific things I'm looking for and Dennis will usually be pretty good at letting you know if its available. One time he also found something after I called and he followed up to let me know he found it and saved it for me. It is a smaller shop and may have more of an eclectic variety of livestock but they seem to carry quite a bit of equipment. I do wish it were closer so I could just make an easy trip to check things out but it may be good that its further for me as I can't always buy new things. read more

The first time I came here I spent allot of money, I bought dry rock and everything else I needed to start my saltwater aquarium, the experience? Great, but was it because I spent allot of money? The last time I went I just needed 2 5gallon jugs of saltwater, I felt like no one wanted to even acknowledge that I walked in with the jugs and then when they got filled no one offered to help me to my car. I struggled and made 2 trips to get them into my car and now that I'm seeing this is not an isolated experience I will not be returning. This is the closest LFS to my home, yet I travel triple the distance to shop elsewhere. This store has a negative vibe and owner seems always too "occupied" to help you. Btw thank you so much for not helping me carry out my 15 gallons of water I was obviously struggling with carrying out of the store taking multiple trips jug by jug, while you and your employee just sat there and watched. Most knowledgeable reef store staff in town. It's not fancy, but you get good advice, great equipment, healthy livestock and a fair price.

I remember being on the hunt for a mandarin fish for my fiancée. This was my 5th place to call that told me that they didn't have any in stock. About 5 minutes after, they gave me a call back asking if I was the one who had called in search of a mandarin fish. They were calling me back to inform me that had one :). It took them a while to catch the little one but they were very patient and informative. read more

This store is awesome! The outside appearance is nothing compared to what is inside. When you drive up for the first time you will be questioning my review but as soon as you go in you will quickly become impressed. The owner specializes in many different types of coral and accents his collection with a good selection of saltwater fish. Everything is marine, NO FRESH WATER. Saltwater specialty store. No freshwater livestock. The owner was really helpful and friendly. Although they did not have what we were looking for, he still had time for us and did not act like we were putting him out. The tanks were clean and the fish and corals all seemed like they were healthy. The store is relatively tiny and so space is optimized like crazy. The owner knows where everything is. If you don't see what you are looking for, ask. Chances are he knows where it is and can lay his hands on it pronto. read more

FJW is the only fish store I go to anymore in Houston. Dennis is so nice and knowledgeable and always willing to answer any questions. I have bought tons of coral from him, all of which has been pest-free and is growing happily in my tank. He has plenty of options from beginner mushrooms to expert ORA SPS. I bought two beautiful, healthy Black Ice Clowns from him as well. He has a great variety of lovely, disease-free fish. He also has a nice variety of clean up crew. Overall, FJW is incredible! DENNIS!!! I live in Pearland and for the first time I went to visit FJW last weekend on Saturday and guess what? I came back on Sunday again even though the drive is not fun. He is a fantastic guy. His store is small in space but BIG on quality and service. Even though the price seems intimidating, they do have price match and you can reason with Dennis. That's what I love about Dennis, you can talk to him and he just wants your business and satisfaction. I wanted special designer clownfishes and he gave me an awesome deal because I bought several. Nonetheless, support a lfs is important as we don't have many quality stores here in H-town. Dennis and FJW is what I highly recommend. read more

FJW Aquarium is a great LFS. I am new to the hobby and found FJW courtesy of google. I am so glad I decided to stop in and look around. The shop is amazing. The selection of corals has to be the absolute best in the city. There are tanks (yes, plural) full of coral frags of varying size and development. There is no comparison to the other fish stores in town. The other stores' "selection" just doesn't compete with FJW. Unfortunately when I was went the store was not fully stocked with fish because of the holiday season and weather. But, normally the shop gets 3 deliveries of stock per week. I am eager to go back when they get more fish in and see what new additions to my tank will come home with me. The owner is a wealth of knowledge and will take the time to chat and teach you about the hobby. He is not pushy with his recommendations. You can tell he is passionate about the hobby over just running a business. read more

Best Reefer in town! Corals, equipment, and knowledge! Small fish stock, so If you want a fish he can get it on next shipment if available. I have waited months for a call from others stores for a particular fish with several reminder and to no avail. I have had FOWLER tanks for 35 years, so hesitant to start a reef until Dennis helped out. He is honest and reliable. If you have time and new to reefing, go see him during the week when he is not so busy and able to answer questions. Be prepared to spend some money though. Not because of FJW, but because this hobby is expensive and addictive. read more

Looks are very deceiving. I very rarely will write a review. The place has either got to be really great or really bad. In this case, this place is amazing. The exterior appearance may look run down but the selection of corals and fish are not comparable. They have a nice range of starter corals to exclusive high end corals.
