If I lived closer Wabash would be my regular place for dog and wild bird supplies. They carry my preferred brand of dog food and a large variety of chews which my dogs demand. They also have everything that I need for year-round bird and squirrel feeding. And, the old-fashioned, friendly service is like we used to get at the grist mill when buying feed for the family farm. read more

So thankful for this place. My dog, who turns 14 this year, has been on Taste of the Wild and this seems to be the other place that still carries it! And they have a rewards program for it, 11th bag is free. Since I've been able to keep him on his food and come in, I've been able to explore this spot more. My absolute favorite nursery. I'm glad I visited after going to Buchanan's. This nursery is way more affordable. I've found plants here that I've never spotted elsewhere. I even picked up a few for my aunt. I bought Asian cucumber as a transplant and it grew so wonderfully. It was a very healthy plant and caught on quickly when I transplanted it. I've bought comfrey here. That's the cousin to borage. I've gotten a variety of herbs and vegetables that cannot be found in big box. The flowering plants are so affordable. I love shopping here. The seed selection is plentiful. They even have dog treats. My dog loved. I can't wait to see what's in store for the winter. I'm thinking of growing a winter garden read more

An amazing experience for a feed store and garden. They do have live animals available for purchase. They offer a nice variety of not only feed supplies, but it's some small apothecary items that have a pleasant smell and fill. I think most of the items in the store are available for a great value, and during the 20 or so minutes that we were there multiple associates checked in on us and made sure that we had no questions. read more

Wabash is my go to garden variety store. Good gifts and happy plants. Prices are lower than Buchanan's and you get to see chickens. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Now, like with any plant store some true Houston native varieties get lumped together with generic Texas native. Buyer beware if you're deviating from Audubon Society or Arboretum plant sales (I've made that mistake myself!) //edit after reading Farrah's review// yeah that $2 difference is big but Wabash should be a neighborhood destination vs a regular stop for hay for someone who lives in Pearland. One of the only places to carry Taste of the Wild dog food in Houston. Adorable puppies. Baby chicks. Roosters. Lots of unique plants and gardening decor. I only wish they'd trim their bushes at the exit because I almost always get into a car accident since they're impossible to see over in anything that isn't a pickup truck. I've only been here twice. They get five stars for their big heart. Summer 2019, a beautiful mom cat had five babies on my side porch. After lots of advice seeking, I was directed to inquire with Wabash. They would try to get all five kittens adopted, but start with three. As directed, I caught three, brought them over --the staff was SO CARING about setting up the kittens to feel emotionally safe! Wabash's hearts are deep. I went again recently, October 2020. I saw they had vanilla plants, a bit ago. But they weren't there a few months later. Actually, on this visit, I didn't know how the plant area is organized. It carries by season, and new arrivals tend to be Saturday. Their saplings are gorgeous! Healthy! The other plants are good. I got a bougainvillea. It is very healthy. Much more beautiful than the one I got at a big box store. At first I thought the prices were a bit marked up, but the plants have vigor, so now I think it's priced fair. read more

This is a gem to find tucked away in the concrete jungle. I think the selection is phenomenal because they have most herbs and vegetables from seeds to seedlings for you to grow your own edible garden. If you have any questions, the staff is more than happy to give you tips on soil nutrients, grow times and you might even get a secret individual grow tip. In addition, you can not really grow various plants in your garden with out the assistance of your friendly pollinators, right...well Wabash Feed & Garden has you covered because they also carry products from hives, cute little bee houses to boxes to transport your queen. I walked in and spent hours looking for someone to help me. Even the damn cats ignored me. Their chicks are assholes too! 5 Stars all around, this is a great place to visit on the weekend. Plenty of parking, helpful staff, and affordable prices. If you have any questions, the staff is very approachable and knowledgeable. I wish they would cut/trim the shrub out front. I visited because of an aphid problem and got ladybugs and some milkweed plants to keep them around. Why is a feed & garden store selling very young purebred puppies who are kept in a wire cage 24/7 for several days in a row and not taken home by staff in the evening? They can't move around freely, are inhaling their feces that drop through the cage bottom (no solid surface or wood chips provided) and they barely move. Is this type of cruelty really worth the profit? They always look lethargic and are completely unstimulated. I'm guessing they are less than 8 weeks old as well. What kind of "reputable breeder" doesn't keep their puppies in their care until they are sold? These are puppies and not goldfish. It's not only unethical but against the city's ordinance as well. I will go elsewhere for my products from now on. read more

Love this place! It's a pet store and garden and livestock market. You can also buy fresh eggs hatched daily from their chickens. They are $6.99 but are fresh! I suppose toy cab buy your own chicken because they have a huge coop. Milkweed plants later in the year: I found this was the only place near the inner loop that still has milkweed plants for monarch caterpillars in December. They are $9.99 for a fairly large plant. But be sure to check if a caterpillars or egg as I had one hitch a ride haha. They have adorable lion head bunnies as well. But they are difficult to care for properly so please research them before you but them. They are $50. If you fix then, they will be easy to litter train. Don't feed them too many carrots, which are high in sugar. No watery lettuce, just dark greens. And unlimited Timothy hat. Oxbow is a good brand to purchase. read more

This place is a real hoot! I grew up in Iowa and really appreciate a good "Farm and Home" store. If I lived in Houston, this would be the place that I'd buy my pet supplies, check out my gardening and landscaping needs, and maybe even pick out my new pet Rooster among a fun collection of barnyard animals. There's all sorts or places to explore within the Wabash Compound, and in some ways the friendly funkiness here reminds me a bit of the Jackalope store in Santa Fe. Unfortunately, I was limited to what I could pack in my suitcase for the return trip home. So that Lone Star and barbed wire wall hanging will have to wait. But I did find a cute garden decoration that will remind Gayle of her beloved rat doggy! read more

I must have driven by Wabash Antiques a thousand times and never dropped in. Such shame, because I've been wasting time buying bales of hay in other parts of town. Okay, that last line isn't quite true: I only bought hay once in my life, and that was here; but I coulda ditched Petco and Petsmart long ago. I had didn't know Wabash sold pet treats, toys, leashes--amongst their other goods, like garden decor, snacks, fertilizers and pets. Yes, pets! Puppies and kittens. I didn't get to check out much more due to time restraints, but I will make a promise to go back and check out those turkeys. Just as a side note, their hay was about two dollars more than places I found in Pearland (about $9.25 at Wabash), but considering that I was saving time and gas for that out-of-town trek, it was completely worth it. read more

Don't let the name fool you - there's a lot more than antiques and feed at Wabash. This store is one of my very favorite places to visit in all of Houston, especially for plants and gardening needs. Inside the main part of the store you'll find seeds, a few pots and antiques, pet food and accessories (including birdseed), chicks, birds, kittens (former strays) and puppies (usually from breeders). The adjacent indoor area has fertilizer and plant food, soil, some assorted antiques, and some more planters (feed and larger bags of soil are just outside this area). The outdoor areas house fruit trees, flowering plants, vegetable plants, herbs, and pots, along with rabbits, roosters, hens, other birds, and the occasional peacock. The cashiers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable - they helped my ailing tomato seedlings make it through a hot summer. Don't be afraid to ask questions! read more

Wow. I must say. This is a one stop shop for the plant, exotic/Texan-y animal, and feed store. I wandered in while my car was getting washed next door. I spent over an hour just exploring! They have a range of items like great outdoor garden decorations, fresh eggs from their chickens, and flowers. The herbs are also fantastic. They have Texas friendly herbs and phenomenal variety, esp in the oregano varieties. In addition to mint, they also have some nice tea flavoring plants. Sadly, no air plants. We came across with this store because a friend of mine was looking for some seeds that we couldn't find at Walmart, Home Depot or Nurseries (we went to more than one), so I decided to google a store in Houston to buy seeds and I call Wabash, since I called the first time I got an excellent customer service over the phone, they help us finding the seeds we were looking for. When we arrived they helped my friend who does not speak english, one of the guys at the store speaks spanish. Is an amazing store for those who love plants, animals, antiques and more. Sometimes you just need a puppy fix. The Wabash feed-store is perfect for that fix. It has a great selection of animal food, plants, outdoor furniture, and animals. One may find not only dogs and cats, but chickens, rabbits, geese, and the occasional rooster. It has a very different feeling that it's tooly surroundings of Washington Avenue, but provides a very pleasant experience. I have also regularly seen Westie puppies for sale here for $450 which is far less expensive than I regularly see for these puppies. The staff is knowledgeable, but will simply let you shop. It is totally worth the trek into the area for a taste of a small town- despite it's completely ironic location. read more
