I am furious! They bought my loan after my re-fi and they didn't pay my homeowners insurance. I got a notice from Shelter that is was past due. I called Flagstar on Monday, June 22, 2020 and the agent promised that the payment would be sent and received by Shelter by the 25th. So Friday, June 26th, 2020 my agent called to let me know that the grace period had passed and I was no longer covered. Fortunately, I had enough money in my account to pay for one month. Mind you, this is in the middle of a pandemic when money is short, Storm and hail season and people in the neighborhood are shooting off fireworks from dusk till dawn. I called Flagstar and the agent was nonchalant, unsympathetic, and rude. I wasn't speaking to her in a rude manner or anything like that. She said it would take 7 to 10 days to reach them. If I can make a payment for my mortgage online in 1 minute, why can't they do that instead of snail mail? Avoid this company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I was with a different mortgage company (Dovenmuhler mortgage) I was on a covid deferral from 4/1/20 - 9/1/20. My mortgage payments were moved to the back of my loan as a covid courtesy with Dovenmuhler. I got transferred to flagstar bank 10/1/20. They have returned my Wellsfargo mortgage payment sent on 10/13/20 due to a inaccurate posted balance on the account. According to their records they couldn't find any deferral for the previous loan. I then faxed over my proof of deferral from my previous lender. They still have not adjusted the account correctly, they have also placed me on a new "forbearance", I never agreed to that or requested it. I can't pay my mortgage by bill pay or on their website due to the inaccurate posted balances. Every time I call in the resolve I get transferred to someone who can't help me and needs to transfer me to someone else, I've called in now 12 different time and spent over 1 hour on each call.. read more

Flagstar Bank has been handling our mortgage for the past few years. For the past two years they have sent me multiple letters with regards to their requirement. They don't like the address that the insurance company has been sending to them, they request a marriage certificate. They don't like how they are listed as a named insured. They handle nothing through the insurance company. The have returned my call up to six hours after I call them including while I am in rush hour traffic. Nothing stays the same from year to year. I have had several other mortgages none of them even close to being as labor intensive has Flagstar. Customer service is beyond terrible. read more

I'm a current Flagstar Mortgage holder, and I have absolutely no complaints about that. I recently tried to do a Refi, and wanted to do it with Flagstar but the Lending Manager Sanford (Sandy) Mallon was awful, all of his correspondence was vague, his rates were nearly double other banks, could not provide an explanation as to why his rates were so much higher, never fully answered my questions. HE WAS HORRIBLE!! Really turned me off to Flagstar all together. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

The customer service policies of this bank are poor. As other posters have mentioned, as well as numerous other review sites, Flagstar Bank has poor customer policies and services. My situation is this: when I initially set up online loan payments on their website, an account number error was entered that I did not catch. I was not notified of the error until after the payment was due, and they then late charges were added and they were having collections agents contact me. The error was fixed immediately, yet this bank is unwilling to reverse the late fee because this was my fault in their view. I would not ever work with this company again and will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Loan Modification My experience with Flagstar was one that I had to deal with employees willing to lie, were completely incompetent and the final insult was that right in the middle of a modification application we were informed with six days notice that our loan had been sold and our modification application had been closed due to missing documents that had been uploaded to their site weeks earlier. Unbelievable experience, wouldn't recommend this bank to my worst enemy. Very, very poor organization. read more

run. run far away. if you want your life to become a nightmare then use their mortgage service. all bad...everything.

I signed up for CD with them about 16 months back and opened a 19 month CDs. They never contacted me on phone and after the sign up, there was no way to add maturity options or a beneficiary. I kept looking to see if they added any options online months after months to see if I could set up Maturity options like all other online banks bigger and smaller. Finally, I decided to call them today since my CD matures in a few months and found out that I could not make that request on phone. I could also not stop at a Physical location to have that done. I would have to wait until the CD matures and they will have 10 day grace period and within those 10 days, I would either have to mail a letter to them or stop at a Branch to close the CD and instruct for the funds. I asked what if the letter gets missed or that I am in a different state or out of the country? Can I not write the letter now or stop at a branch now? She said that I would have to pay penalty as they will close early. But I am not closing my account now and just trying to instruct what happens when it is mature. She had to put me on hold and then verified that I would have to do it within that 10 day period and there is no other options. This is crazy! Which bank does it where you have no option to decide what happens to your money? This is the only one I came across. Shame on me for not researching and signing up with them. I hope everyone researches and never makes the same mistake. I am really worried that they are trying not to return money and that's is why they have this rigid and strict option. They assume that many consumers would fail to make things done in those 10 days and either pay penalty or get stuck with a renewal. Discover, Capital One, Ally or even Huntington does not have this attitude. I thought I would forget about numerous times I had problem with online access and not having anyone to help me unlock the account on weekends but this is really serious when someone is trying not to release your money. read more

This is the worse bank i've ever used. My mortgage was held by them in 2009. They sold my loan to Caliber Home Loans in 2011 but refused to update this fact to the 3 major credit bureaus. This is the worst mortgage company I have ever dealt with. My loan was sold to them around August 2020 and now I'm doing a refinance. Because I'm refinancing Flagstar froze my escrow account and didn't pay my county real estate taxes which ere due December 7, 2020. They never informed me of this and I was unaware until I received a late notice from the county treasurer. I have called Flagstar 3 times since December 30 requesting my account be unfrozen and the taxes paid. Each time I am told it is being upgraded to urgent status and will be paid within 1 to 3 business days. Well it's January 14, 2021 and my taxes are still not paid, so to avoid the $100 late penalty I will have to pay my taxes out of pocket myself tomorrow; even though I have the money in my escrow account. During one of my phone calls the customer service agent (Tae) was rude and unprofessional. On my final call, the manager (Darlene) was blatant in showing me she did care about me or my taxes. She never apologized for me being on that call for over 55 minutes or the fact this issue was still not resolved. read more

Stay away! They bought my loan from SNB Where I have had payments taken out of my account on the first of the month for years. They did not take a payment out the first month and later sent me past due notice. When I called to make a payment the said records would not be ready until the 18th. On the 18th I mailed a check. On the 19th I received a phone call telling to call a 1-800 number that was their debt collection department. I am 72 and never missed a payment on anything. The person I talked to said he would note that the payment was on the way. Today is the 21st and another past due notice. Now, I guess I am stuck with them. read more

Flagstar Mortgage loan Review: We Bought a house and our mortgage was sold to Flagstar Bank. Then we sold our old house and wanted to make a large principle payment to eliminate PMI and save over 2k a month on interest and bring the large monthly payments down through reamortization. We had to get our 1st mortgage company to help us get Flagstar to even start the process and they stalled another 2 weeks then Flagstar would not let us make the payment before paying our large mortgage payment with excess interest fees one more time. Then we paid the principal down well beyond the "80% Loan to Value Ratio" after owning the house for only 3 months but Flagstar did not remove the PMI. Loan to Value Ration needs to reach 80% to remove PMI. Our LTV is at .076 (between 7 and 8% )(10 times the requirement).Flagstar is still stalling after 3 months saying we have to get a "Broker Price Opinion" which we have to pay another $250 for to prove our house hasn't lost more that 90% of its value in the 1st 3 months! They also would not let us reamortize without a lengthy process all the while making us pay very large monthly payments. It seems to us that Flagstar engages in unethical if not illegal practices.Customer service is terrible but I don't blame the people who are bound by their companies practices. The one huge exception was a very helpful and professional woman in "special loans" who helped us reamortize, but it was a process to get to her but once we did it was like dealing with another company and a true blessing! The web site and customer service make it almost impossible to get help with any of these processes that would stop the company from collecting monies that you have met all requirements for. This should be illegal!!! We have had mortgages before and also paid them off very early none of our past mortgage companies worked this way. They all removed PMI as soon as we met the 80% requirement without making us pay or jump through hoops, filling out forms and waiting months. Flagstar claims the reason for all this push back is the early payment but in both previous homes we also paid off the 30 yr mortgage in 10 to 15 years and met PMI long before that so their excuse doesn't hold water. They say this is a Fannie Mae requirement but our very last mortgage was also backed by Fannie Mae. They also said we could not manage our own Escrows which is one more way they differ from other companies. We will have to cover the escrow shortages they are setting us up for. It is a nightmare having them as a mortgage company. read more

Flagstar bank, stay far away from them. My house flooded in April with all the rain in Chicago area. Thought I had flood insurance but their insurance dept said no flood insurance. FEMA said yes I had flood insurance but couldn't give me the carrier. Again, Flagstar said no flood insurance. This time during the call which was at 5pm EST, the phone call ended like they shut the phone system off. Now its November and still no closer to getting back in my house but they have the insurance check for $120,500.00. YES, you read correctly, they have the check and are NOT releasing any funds and every time I call their insurance dept and ask to talk to the supervisor, Antoinette Booker, she is unavailable. Either on another call or out to lunch. Flagstar, You are out to lunch and my lawyers are involved in the matter now. Good luck, because I will be seeking legal action against your organization. POOR. Claim they are a Michigan bank and sell my mortgage to an outfit out of Chicago - Fay Services - which, when you call, sounds like a debt collection agency. Takes these idiots 5 working days to get me a payoff on my mortgage? And they only accept fax as a way to communicate? SERIOUSLY? Do they screen these places that they sell their mortgages to? I have made every mortgage payment and have never been late. That is the second time they sold my mortgage - the first time was to an outfit out of Texas and then they bought it back - only to sell it again. Never was able to receive a personal loan or line of credit from them - you have to have a 720 or better score. They are elitists and they do not help. I understand that banks sell mortgages. But you can't claim "We're Michigan proud" and sell the service I came to them for to someone out of state. read more

Flagstar Bank has serviced my home loan for 3 years now and it has been an endless string of annoyance as far as getting them to properly update my account. I will not use them again and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I hate this bank so much I made an account here and on Consumer Affairs. After Wells Fargo sold my accounts to this bank without my consent, they have been a complete pain to work with. I never received a new ATM card. I do not even live in a state that has a branch, making it more ridiculous. I am constantly locked out of my online banking for no apparent reason and they want the driver's license number I used to open my original bank accounts with Wells Fargo before they will provide access or even tell me why my login information suddenly does not work. I opened those accounts over 10 years ago when I had a different state driver's license and do not have that number anymore. Their solution was to use snail mail when I desperately need instant access to the account or to come into a branch. The nearest branch is over 1,000 miles from me. This is completely unacceptable. If the accounts weren't so old, I would close them down immediately. read more

Really wish I checked these people out on Yelp before dealing with Flagstar Mortgage. They are causing us to lose our new home purchase. These people are the most unprofessional and bias I have ever encountered. Specifically our incompetent underwriter Caron. Total losers. They strung us along for weeks, told us we were approved and appraisal was being ordered, then embarrassed us in front of the seller and RE Agent by denying our loan based on what I believe to be ethnic/ religious bias. Unfortunately for them, I have been in the RE business for 35+ years and have 1,000,s of contacts. I will definitely tell all my current and future customers about my incredibly negative experience Also will warn other RE Agents to stay far away from them. As I am privy to a data base of over 100,000 RE customers, that's quite a few. Next is filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and beyond! read more

I originated my loan with the bank and paid the bank fees to have it serviced by the local bank. Within the first 30 days the bank sold my loan to a new company. I was told this bank is a direct lender and funds their own loans. This is not the case, and I would highly caution anyone from using this bank for home loans especially if you wanted a local lender. I called the office of the president and was informed they sold the loan for profit and mine loan was one of many that got sold and there was nothing they could do to stop it or transfer it back even though the loan does not transfer until 27 December 2019. The office of the president informed me this was a business decision and not personal. However I specifically went to their establishment to have a local lender in the Boise area. They informed me they have the right to sell loans and it was in the documents I signed and agreed to. So bad on me for not catching that clause. I personally will not be taking my business back and I will no longer refer business to them. read more

My husband and I considered Flagstar to refinance our home mortgage. The employee who helped me over the phone was friendly and helpful until my return phone call to let him know we had changed our mind (I thought it was polite to let him know) and were going to work with another bank. Then he became rude and actually hung up on me! I would hope that a bank would do a better job hiring their personnel which work in direct contact with the public. If I could complain to his superior, I would. I certainly will not consider Flagstar for any business of mine in the future and will recommend it to NO ONE. read more

I have never actually written reviews before, but Flagstar Bank deserves a bad review. It is impossible half the time to get a hold of someone and there is a "loan center" in Salt Lake City, UT but it is only run by like one or two guys and it is not professional at all and they make you do everything! They only accept phone calls and take notes or send you to someone else. They do not actually help you set up payment plans or anything, you have to log on and do it your self. Again this is not a good bank and I would never recommend it to anyone. read more

Flagstar doesn't even deserve 1 star. My mortgage was transferred. They did not contact my insurance to see if it was paid and instead sent a refund causing an almost $1000 shortfall which I was sent a letter from Flagstar and given 3 weeks to pay. There was another issue of getting a fee waived. After numerous phone calls, the request miraculously never gets submitted. Then I made the mistake of trying to refinance with them. I filled out an online application. I followed up with a phone call and Darrius Davis convinced me to do a HELOC instead. After numerous calls and emails to him with no response, I reached out to supervisor Michael who informed me there is no way I would be approved for a HELOC and he could transfer it back to a refi. It's been over a week and no follow up. They removed the HELOC info from my login page but there's no sign of anyone working on my refi. I contacted QUICKEN LOANS and the response was amazing and lightening quick. Avoid Flagstar at all costs. If you look at Glassdoor reviews, the employees rate working there 1 out of a high score of 5 and it's obvious because employees there aren't doing their jobs. Rates are at an all time low. Refinance with someone else and get away from Flagstar!!! read more

If you enjoy waiting on the phone for at least 35-60 minutes each time you have a question on your loan, then Flagstar is the bank for you. I have called them on 4 separate occasions over the past month, so it wasn't like I just caught them on an unusually busy day. Go somewhere else! read more

I guess I hit Flagstar on a good day only a 25 minute hold time. Just another greedy bank that is understaffed and poorly managed.

There is no one at this company with any soul or customer service attitude whatsoever. First of all, since the shooting in Las Vegas, a lot of us lost work. I explained this to them in advance of financial problems. They tacked on late fees instead of caring or helping. Today, I went online to pay. Technical difficulties. I log in to chat. No one avail for loan payments to talk to. I ask someone in accounts to direct me. I get an automatic scripted loan policy statement without any human answer even she greeted "Hi my name is Crystal, how can I help?" I told her how rude that was and asked for a human answer and some direction. Nothing. I had to leave to do errands. While driving on blue tooth, I called to make a payment since I couldn't log in. From two people I got instructions how to fix the log in issue but if I wanted to make a phone payment, I had to pay a fee. I asked to waive the fee since I was already on the phone so I could move on. Nothing. No help. No care. Only policy. They should not pretend to have anything to do with customer service. They should not even mention it in any of their sites or correspondence. Customer service and/or caring does not exist at Flagstar. read more

I wish I could give negative stars! Our mortgage was sold to Flagstar Bank. Received a 'Welcome Letter' from Flagsrltar with our new loan number assuring us that nothing would change- including our auto pay. The first month the payment was deducted as usual, the next month no payment was deducted. Called and after being on hold for 45 minutes was told our auto pay had been cancelled without notification. I was also told I would need to speak with an account specialist to set up a new auto pay. Two more calls with extended (1hour) hold time later, only to discover we can set up auto pay via online banking- the "specialist" had no additional information and continued to tell me in accurate account information. We have been with Flagstar Bank for years, my son bought and item on line for $4.95 The online business was scam they end up charging us $89.95 for S&H. We called the card dispute at Flagstar bank after 3 months waiting for the dispute they decided to pay the online business. Because of the terms & conditions on the 10th Paragraph/page in a very fine print says they will charge us the $89.99 for S&H if we don't contact them within 15 days. Well we did email the company and they never responded, their email system works within their webpage, so we have no record that we sent the email and when we tried to call them it is all automated and no one answers the call. On top of that Flagstar low and unfair customer service don't see anything wrong with that. Same situation happened with my other son fortunately we used CHASE Bank card, they credit my account within days with very professional and polite customer service, then I received a letter noted I will not see this charge from that company on my account again (They blocked them). Flagstar needs a lot to learn on how to protect their customers from Scams and return their calls. They have no issue to let online scammers and crooks take advantage of you. If you bank with Flagstar you are on your own. No protection from Crooks and scams. On top of that Christy at the Card dispute department was very rude and it took her days to return my call that was after I left her few massages. By the way our accounts will closed ASAP. read more

They deserve zero stars. They are a bunch of crooks and I told them so over the phone. My monthly mortgage payment went from $561 to $821. They want to collect money for property taxes. I am a 100% disabled vet and this house has been exempt since 2016. My loan was sold to them from the previous company Cenlar. Maybe they didn't get the documents from them? But when I saw my increase on the 1st of this month I immediately contacted them to try and resolve it. I sent in the paperwork to them showing my exemption. They refuse to update my payment this month and still want to collect money they know they are not entitled to collect. Why put disabled vets in financial hardship? They claim they cannot update it without giving me notice. But I had no notice before this month. I check my mail. A letter come in the mail this month telling me of the increase for this month. They said they can't adjust my mortgage without 30-45 days notice. Which they didn't give me for this month or this wouldn't have happened. Also you can't lower a bill to its correct amount without notice cause that'll put me in financial hardship doesn't make sense. This whole thing seems like an attempt at fraud. They want to knowingly collect money they know I do not owe. The money can't even be used for its intended purpose of property tax. read more

Let me just start off by saying I never sought out to put my money in this bank. I was apart of the merge from Wells Fargo to Flagstar Bank and let me just say, shame on both of you. I chose to bank with Wells Fargo, not Flagstar. Once there was an issue with the merge and everyone was unable to access any of our money, Flagstar was ill prepared. I then, called after the dust settled regarding how I am supposed to close my account. I used to live in Indiana, recently moved to Ohio for work and they don't have Wells Fargo, nor do they have Flagstar branches here. The lady on the phone was very nice, so that I would be able to merge my money to the new banking account that I opened with a bank that I DID want to bank with. She said it wasn't a problem to leave the account open, I did however send in all of my paper work to get this account closed, since there is no point in having it open. She did say that I WOULD NOT be charged for leaving the bank open as they didn't have hidden fees. Let me tell you right now, that was a LIE!!!!!! They've been charging the account the whole time and yesterday was the first piece of mail I received regarding this BS!!!! UPSET!!!! DISAPPOINTED! I feel for anyone that actually chooses to put their money in this bank. I would not trust them. They have left an all around terrible taste in my mouth and I will continue to talk about how TERRIBLE they are. DO NOT LET THIS BANK KEEP YOUR MONEY. Horrible customer service. I had my mortgage sold to them, I DID NOT choose them. During the switch over, I sent my mortgage check to my previous mortgage company (in plenty of time) but they didn't cash it. Flagstar called me everyday for a week, asking about the check. I told them, I sent it to my previous mortgage company, what should I do? They said I needed to rewrite them a check. The NEXT DAY, they cashed the check I had sent to my previous company, AND cashed another check that I made out to them. I asked if they would reimburse my over withdraw fee, since they took 2 mortgage checks, back to back, and what do you think they said. NOPE. Great service guys, you literally cashed back to back mortgage checks, and think there is nothing wrong with that during a mortgage change over.
