Went out with some friends for dinner and they recommended Flambe India. I have never found a solid Indian restaurant in the north suburbs, so I was excited to try this one. The restaurant is clean, bright and inviting. One nice surprise, they have a full bar. Their menu is fairly large. And they were BUSY. They had a line from the back counter all the way through the restaurant of folks either picking up orders (from a prior phone order) or stopping in to order to go. This was nonstop for at least an hour. Saturday night definitely contributed. The food was pretty good. Solid portions, lots of flavor. Of course we ordered Garlic Naan (actually, basil garlic Naan) and it was a good portion and delicious. They only serve one chutney and one curry which I was disappointed by. I have experienced getting a tray of various curries etc. But they were "OK". Had some flavor, but honestly it wasn't flavor-full. My friend said that on prior visits it was better. We also ordered a Mango Lassi (no one had ever tried it so I ordered one so they could try it). It was really good and they loved it as well. We ordered Mango Chicken and Lamb Vindaloo. The chicken was so good and not too sweet. My wife loved it. My Lamb was ok. It was no where near "hot" or spicy which I am used to. It tasted very muted and more like an Indian tomato sauce rather than a true Vindaloo that I'm used to. Our friends meals were lamb and fish and were very good too. My Vindaloo was worth 2.5 to 3 stars but everyone else really liked theirs so I bumped it up to 4. The service was slow, but that was more likely to how busy they were. It wasn't unacceptable, just a bit slower than expected. All in all I would try it again. I would come back try the Chicken Vindaloo and tell them to kick the heat up. There are several dishes I would love to try and will try. But right now my recommendation is a "yes" for those wanting to try this delicious food, but a maybe for experienced Indian food folks that are looking for something more like home :) read more

NYE lunch with friends brought us back to this place. The lunch menu is two pages - vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Each meal comes with a soup, a single pakora, the entree, and dessert. Lots of food for about $20. The service was great. Our server was attentive, made sure we knew he was about to serve our hot soups, etc. The food came out quickly and everyone enjoyed their meals! This time docked one star because the Christmas music. (I understand it's the last day of December, but not everyone celebrates Christmas and wants to keep hearing Mariah Carey. I celebrate Christmas and even I get tired of listening to MC!) particularly dislike religious Christmas music (at an Indian restaurant with a Genesha statue) that is so loud it's difficult to hear your neighbors at the table. I visited the Buffalo Grove Flambe location many years ago, and I remember that they had good flavors but tiny portions. We wanted to finally try the Libertyville location since they opened a couple years ago. I was pleasantly surprised! The service was great. Thankfully we were promptly seated even tho the restaurant was bustling! Everything we ordered was delicious and a decent portion. The garlic naan was huge... And so good! Gerardo the waiter... smiling pleasant guy. Helped us with ordering drinks as well as answering questions about the menu. We are clueless about most of the Indian dishes and names of things, but we read descriptions and ordered. Wow! The flavors and presentation were just wonderful. The hot sauce of the chicken vindaloo was the perfect heat augmenting flavor. The Naan bread appetizer was also delicious. Highly recommend this spot. After walking 3 miles on trail at Independence Grove, my friends and I decided to dine here. They have nice interiors with good bar set up. Our server was very nice and he suggested few items. Our malai chicken skewer was outstanding, mango lassi was balanced (not too sweet) flavor. Our kebabs were also delicious. Our cocktail drinks were decent. And we ordered three curries which appeared to have same base and tasted same (but delicious). The best part of our meal was cardamom creme brûlée and mango kulfi. Both were outstanding. Pure excellence. Don't let the smaller strip mall location confuse you. This is a fine dining place. We visited Flambé India on a Tuesday right at opening time, 5:00PM. We were greeted and seated immediately. The service was attentive and fast. We started with chicken 56 appetizer which was amazing. If you like boneless chicken wings definitely try this and prepare to have your mind blown. The chicken was crispy and flavorful with a medium heat. The naan was also so good we got a second order. The chili and cheese naan is slightly spicy with jalapeños in it. The star of the show was the chicken tikka that was... flambéd I believe. It was mouthwatering! Our party of 3 cannot wait to go back. My sister had never tried Indian food before and now loves it, and my picky eater husband said he would definitely go back and wants to try more dishes! Cannot rave about this place enough. The food and service were simply excellent. Bonus: a table of 21 was seated and served around the same time as us and there were no delays to their order and service or to ours. They were on top of everything! Very impressive. read more

Here's what you need to know: nowhere near perfect and some things clearly need improvement but there was enough good food at our table that (for a small business which deserves support), I will rate it 5 stars. Service from Gerardo was very good - he was knowledgeable and efficient, giving good recommendations. Some downsides: There was a gut wrenching wet rag smell in the hallway to the restroom that was made all of us nauseous when we walked through it to wash our hands. Thankfully the stink did not permeate the dining room so we were able to enjoy our meal. no refills on soda - I was given a half glass full of ice and not given a can at the table. Then when I asked for a refill, they advised it would cost me another drink. It's 40 cents a can to procure, there is no labor or holding cost since it's not refrigerated. They used half a can of coke in my drink... who thought it was a good customer service idea to not allow for a single refill :) No rice with any main / entree curry dish (whether is $22 or $27 or whatever the cost) You have to spend another $4 for boiled rice - unseasoned and no spices or herbs. That seems crazy to me. Again, you're offering a mains that is incomplete at a high priced. This needs to be addressed. Most naans and kulcha were enjoyable but one of them was overly doughy and slightly underbaked. Chicken malai tikka was a big presentation with hanging skewers but probably the least enjoyable dish - it was dry chicken breast. The sauce was too heavy on the cardamom and had an overly sweet cream taste to it. Chicken malai seekh, paneer tikka, and fish Amritsari was all enjoyable (paneer tikka aggressively used artificial food coloring which was a turn off and looked unnatural ; fish was a touch dried out but still flavorful given the marination.) Butter chicken was delicious, natkhat lamb was enjoyable but the meat was overcooked and dry The flavorful curry carried it through. Overall, I would go back for the dishes I enjoyed and would recommend those foods. read more

I'll start with the good: the food was absolutely fantastic. Everything was fresh and hot when it arrived. This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. I had the Lamb Raganjosh and my friend had the butter chicken. Their naan is sooo flavorful! It came hot and fresh and the two sauces we had were amazing! The service was just not great. It took us over an hour to get served. We watched other tables that came after us receive their food before us. No one checked on us till our food came, which was after an hour! It was busy at this location but that does not excuse waiting an hour for food. The restaurant is beautiful, lovely decor and ambiance. All in all a great place for authentic Indian cuisine. I would probably give this place a 2 if i was honest, but would hate to bring down a business with few reviews. i ordered butter chicken and garlic naan on uber eats. i requested that they make the butter chicken as spicy as they could & to not hold back. Im not sure if they weren't allowed to adjust the spice level or what, but the spiciness of this dish is a 1.5/10. it's also a little too tomato-y for my liking. I just moved here from the bay area, so my standards are high. considering there's only literally like 2 indian restaurants in this half of the state, this is better than the other one i've tried. the garlic naan was good, i have no complaints there. the portions were large & it came with free rice. however, i think its subpar. i'll save my indian food fix for when i go back to cali. read more

Flambe India is truly an awesome place to go. I ordered food for delivery one time and I could my believe how good this food was. I called a friend and told her about and we agreed to go there for lunch. We set a date and I asked a couple of friends if they would like to go and they did join us. We were all in awe!!! The lunch specials were to die for and so good. The portions were unbelievable and we all had a doggie bag as we had to make room for desert that came with the lunch. Boy, was I surprised - We ate something that was so tasty and refreshing. Talking about refreshing they also have a wonderful array of drinks to choose from. Not one complaint at our table. They were very accommodating to get the spice level each of us wanted. We had a table of four with four different levels. I am going to recommend Flambe India to more friends. We will be back! Okay, my favorite thing about this place is the NAAN! The naan is so dang delicious. Oh, and their $15 lunch specials are pretty good. It comes with soup, appetizer, salad, rice, entree, naan, and dessert. Meme Bakri: This lamb dish didn't come with a lot of meat. I got several large bones, which was unfortunate. The lamb I did get was pretty tender. Chicken Shahi Korma: Creamy and delicious korma. I loved the fried nuts and raisins, as they add a lot of pizazz to the dish. Tandoori flambe masala chusa: Not a huge fan. While it looks really cool, the flames didn't burn off all of the alcohol, leaving the chicken tasting WAY too alcoholic. The sauce was too strong for any of us. Rasmalai: Delicious. I loved that it was included in the lunch special. Unfortunately, some of the cups smelled like dirty dish towel. That made drinking water a pretty unpleasant experience throughout the meal. Between that and the super alcoholic tandoori chicken, I was leaning towards a 3/5 rating. However, the lunch special is pretty worth the money, and the naan is really good. Service is also pretty good. For that, I'll say it's a 3.5/5 rounded to a 4/5. read more

Flambe seems to be a popular Indian spot for the locals, as the place was pretty busy when we came for dinner. Their menu is pretty extensive, offering skewers, apps, tandoor options, veg and non-veg entrees, rice, breads, and desserts. We ordered: +Malai Chicken Tikka - one of their more popular flambe skewers, this came with two hanging skewers of chicken chunks that were covered in some type of a marinade; there was a pool of malai gravy on the bottom; we thought that the presentation was going to give a more 'wow' factor, but there was some rum poured over each skewer, not really 'dousing' them as it was stated on the menu, and then lit - however, there really wasn't any flame action; the chunks of chicken and the gravy were more on the room temperature/cold end, so I'm thinking these were prepared way in advanced and maybe caught them in the thawing process? +Jinga Masala Vida - shrimp cakes prepared with chili, cilantro, mint, garlic, ginger, and spices; could have been served hot and fresh out of the pan; these came with 3 patties and had a slight crisp with a kick; these do fall apart easily and do not hold its shape +Butter Chicken - roasted dark chicken in a tomato-based sauce with fenugreek; even though the bowl that this was served in was warm, the curry itself was not; the sauce itself was also more thin in consistency and kind of watered down; flavor wasn't that great, either +Chicken Shahi Korma - prepared with chicken breast cubes, but this also seemed to use predominantly dark chicken meat; the menu stated this was topped with golden fried nuts and raisins, but it seemed as if there were little chopped nuts mixed in the sauce, and there were no raisins, which I actually was excited for; the dish was also served in a warm bowl, but the curry itself was not temperature hot; the sauce was also thin and watery +Peas Pulao - described as steamed basmati with tempered green peas; both rice and the peas were not cooked properly, as they were still undercooked/raw +Garlic naan - usually comes topped with cilantro, but they were able to make one without, which we appreciated; definitely larger ins size than the usual, but there were more hard, burnt areas rather than the fluffy bread you'd expect; I also wished there were more garlic on there Service was friendly, but the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed in checking in with tables - we had to wait a while to get extra plates and silverware, our drinks, and the menu. It also took time to place our orders in. When you enter, there really isn't a 'waiting area' or a host/hostess to receive you; it's a little awkward, as you'll have to stand in front of their bar in the back to let them know you need a table. The place is more on the smaller end with a handful of seating. I really loved their decor of the colorful hanging umbrellas! Located in a small strip plaza off of Peterson, there's ample parking in the large shared lot. We had been wanting to try their original location in Buffalo Grove and were so happy when the Libertyville (closer) location opened last month. We dined in for dinner and it was a little fancier than we anticipated! We were dressed casual and had our daughter. The decor was very nice which isn't always common when dining at Indian restaurants so it was a nice change. They also had an extensive wine and cocktail menu which also isn't common for Indian restaurants. The food was delicious but we had to get everything not spicy because we were with our daughter. Next time we want to go back for a date night so we can get them full flavor & spice! The cauliflower pakora was the most surprising - it had a fried chicken crunch / taste without a chicken. The perfect vegetarian appetizer. And for dinner we got paneer, korma and naans! Next time I will swap the korma for Chana bc I do love Chana! We came here for the first time about a month ago, because we saw that they have gluten free options. We didn't want to get a full (normal) meal because it was lunchtime. The lunch special comes with a soup, appetizer, the main meal (which has rice and a salad), and a dessert. Despite, how great our server, he didn't mention I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy the lunchtime special. When the food came out, immediately I knew I couldn't have the appetizer, the server was able to tell me that as well. Then the same thing happened with the dessert. It was disappointing mostly because the server mentioned they do have GF appetizers and desserts, but they were not a part of the lunch special; you get what you get for the soup, appetizer, and dessert. It was a nice quiet restaurant for a lunch date. I would try this place again in future, but have a few other local Indian gf restaurants I would like to try first. read more

Wow ! This is my new favorite Indian restaurant. They have a great menu, the place was packed, and the people were nice. I got the Dal with rice and was blown away by how good it was. Also, we had someone with us who was Vegan and I am celiac, it was nice to see that the menu was labeled well for vegan and gluten free. In fact, our waiter even suggested I avoid some dish because there was an outside chance of contamination making me think they really know what they were talking about. I didn't get the garlic naan obviously with celiac, but others did and they raved about it. I was told this is a "must get". The interior was interesting and gave a good vibe. It was packed on. Saturday night so a reservation is a good idea. However we just hung out at the bar till a table opened up. The bar is way too tall or the chairs too low....LOL .... But who cares. I will be back !!! The one in Buffalo Grove is great and this location compliments it well. Glad we had reservations even for a Wednesday evening. Man! were they busy with families and friends dining in including carry out orders. We started off with their palak dip with roti chips. This is the family favorite. For drinks we enjoyed a mango lassi and pineapple martini. Our main course consisted of paneer makhani, chickpea with spinach, chicken tikka masala, veg biryani, plain naan and garlic naan. The taste on all dishes was wonderful and plentiful for the 4 of us. No complaints at all with the food. The service even with 2 big party tables was excellent. My family and I came here last week for a weekday lunch. It's a small and beautifully decorated restaurant. It was pretty empty during lunch and we were able to get seated immediately! Most of my family got the $15 lunch special. There's a number of options to choose from, and I got the butter chicken. It was so delicious- a lot of tandoori chicken in a creamy, flavorful sauce. The dish also came with rice, salad, and a really big naan. The best dish we got was my mom's Chicken Korma. It's richer and more unique than other korma's I've tried, and they have raisins in it to add another dimension of flavor. The worst dish was my brother's flambe tandoori masala chusa. The flames looked really cool, but the dish tasted too alcoholic. The chicken itself was actually grilled well and tasted pretty good, but the whole dish wasn't very appetizing when every spoonful of the sauce felt like taking a vodka shot.
