I really, really, really wanted to love this place! I grew up in Racine. I was back home for a visit because my niece is getting married. I haven't been back here for more than 10 years. Growing up, there weren't any Indian places to get food from, so when I saw an Indian restaurant, I was excited! I have been living in Orlando for the last 20 years and I eat Indian food at least once a week. I am also spoiled to have an Indian grocery store nearby and I purchase a large box of frozen samosas so I can throw them in the air fryer whenever I have a craving in front of the TV at night. I was getting ready to leave downtown and head back toward my niece's house and wanted a small snack to hold me over for the hour drive. I decided to try this restaurant for a unique combination of Indian and Pakistani food. I ordered one of my favorite dishes, Samosa chaat. I was very specific and asked for it to be vegan. In the meantime, I needed to use the restroom. As I made my way towards the back of the restaurant, my shoes began to stick to the floor. This was quite a bit of a turn off but I dismissed it as perhaps a mess that wasn't able to be thoroughly cleaned yet. When I went into the ladies room, there was no toilet paper. I had to go back out into the restaurant and ask for toilet paper which seemed to be a small ordeal for them. Needless to say, the toilet paper situation was resolved and I discovered a sticky floor in the bathroom as well. I started second guessing my choice of a place to eat. Again, I dismissed it And went to sit down at my table where the floor was sticky yet again. I should've left at this point. I looked around the restaurant and I noticed that there were three other tables of people eating the food and chose to stay because of that fact. When I received the Samosa chaat it was smothered in both tamarind and cilantro chutney (most cilantro chutneys are made using yogurt and I requested a vegan entree...unsure if this chutney had yogurt.) The samosas were made out of wonton wrappers and deep fried. The potato used inside was completely flavorless with some being so overcooked it was like mashed potatoes and some being so undercooked, they were as hard as rocks. There was no spice. My nose should've been running while I was trying to eat this. The channa masala on the dish was tasty but cold. The red onions had the most flavor of all of the ingredients on the plate. But I couldn't get passed the potatoes and left 85% of the dish uneaten. (I failed to get a photo ) I am thoroughly disappointed and bummed out that I couldn't find good Indian food in my hometown after all these years. Perhaps I'm spoiled by the large Indian population in Orlando. I shared my critique with the gentleman who took my money and I was told that they would try to do better next time. I was in Racine for only a weekend but Chit Chaat truly blew me away and was the best food I had in the area while in town! Their Pakistani food is delicious and their menu has great variety. Their pani puri and chai were the standouts to me! Definitely share the stuffed naan for the group. The portions were huge and a lot for even the two of us to eat through at dinner (though they also made excellent leftovers)! Service was a bit slower so be prepared to potentially wait, but the quality of the food absolutely made it worth it! Already thinking about when we can visit again just to eat here. read more

Went here for the first time and I will definitely be coming back. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. The naan garlic and cheese naan had just the right amount of flavor and were very soft and the chicken tikka masala was so good. The samosas were good too I loved the sauce they came with. Excellent stop here! Found this for a late dinner stop after a glass blowing class just down the road. We stopped in about 30 minutes before they closed (7:30pm) but we were told it was okay to dine in. Ordered some plain naan (got garlic instead but it was delicious), chicken chaat bowl and chicken tikka masala. The tamarind type glaze on the chaat bowl was good - bit of a smoky BBQ flavor. The tikka was great - plenty of sauce for naan dipping. Fun music and cute decorations. You can tell they care about their food. They do have a corking fee if you'd like to bring your own adult beverages. Might bring a bottle of wine next time. Looking forward to my next visit here. read more

First time trying this type of Indian/Pakistani food. It's really spicy but can ask for medium, mild or suggestions on food heat levels. As a first timer it took us a little bit to get used to the complex spicy taste and spicy smells. I tried a beef and chicken dish, and it was really nice. The pieces of meat were super tender fresh, and they were cut into nice sized pieces (not oversized). The rice was tasty and loved the (? not sure) cucumber sauce/dip to bring down the heat a bit. The Naans were amazing; I prefer the cheesy ones the best! Defiantly would recommend and come back to try other dishes. I adore this restaurant. Their butter chicken is heavenly, as are their samosas and naan (try the garlic cheddar and you won't be disappointed). My husband has a few favorites: the Rajastani chicken, Anda roti, and chicken biryani. I finally got to try this place & im so happy I did! I went with a friend and as soon as you walk in you're greeted & told to sit anywhere you like. Our server told us she was new to the place but she was wonderful! We started off with the house chai and the mango lassi, both were delicious. Then we placed our order for garlic cheese naan, chicken tikka masala & chicken biryani tandoori style (you have a choice of tandoori chicken or curry chicken for the biryani) The garlic cheese naan was delicious, cheese pull 10/10. The chicken biryani could've used more flavor in the rice the red onions over powered most of it but the chicken was fantastic! Maybe if I got the curry style there would've been more flavor, I will get that next time. The chicken tikka masala I also thought could've used more flavor & lacking in 'spiciness' but my friend thought it was the best Indian food she's had! Overall I personally felt that they held back on the spice to cater to Wisconsin Americans when comparing to my go to place down the street Kebab & Grill but it was still pretty good & I will be back to try other items when I want another dine in experience w my friend. read more

This is an absolute gem. We were going to drive from Kenosha to Milwaukee for Indian food, so glad we decided to venture here instead. Came in around 7pm on a Saturday night, the atmosphere and staff were so welcoming. Our server read everything with her own personal favs off the menu, which was great seeing I'm not very familiar with this type of cuisine. We ordered five different things to share between the two of us. Everything was fantastic. I can't say enough about the staff, from the servers to the chef and the food, this was an amazing experience. I only wish they were open past 8 so we could have stayed longer. Very enjoyable dining experience. I had the lamb cooked in a broth and my spouse had the steak (we shared the garlic cheese naah) everything was delicious. While the atmosphere is casual-- think Indian/Pakistani neighborhood restaurant--the interior is colorful and inviting. Service was excellent and attentive. Note that Chit Chaat does not serve alcohol, but is BYOB friendly with a $5 surcharge --very reasonable. This time we had dinner, but will be back soon to try lunch. I have been meaning to write this review for a while now. I went to this restaurant one time and it was in the summer of 2019. I sat and had a great appetizer while I waited for the chicken tikka to go. The reason I give such a low rating is because it was a tiny little bit of chicken on a thigh that was mostly bones and literally it couldn't have been more than two maybe three small bites of chicken in the whole dish. And then the amount of rice was possibly maybe a cup and a half of rice. And the sand then sauce. And that was it!!! I paid over $14 for that one thing. I was very shocked at the prices at this place for the amount of food you get. Maybe they have changed things but while money is tight I do not plan on returning. It's too bad because I love this type of food. But when I spend $14 and I am still hungry it puts up a red flag. And it does not take much to fill me up. I can get a jar of very good tikka masala sauce from Aldi for 1.99 and spend $12 on 5 lb of chicken breasts... throw in some curry paste and some coconut milk and make a batch of Jasmine or basmati rice in my rice cooker and I have enough food to feed 5 people for what I paid for this. And tastes just as good. I don't mind spending money on good food but it felt like being gouged. read more

My wife and I decided to go out for dinner tonight, so we when on yelp and we found this place. We thought it's got almost 5 stars let's try something new. So we headed downtown to our location, got inside and we waited, and waited, and waited by the time we've got seated (in a non full restaurant), it had been12 minutes. By the time we got seated and they handed us a menu, another 15 minutes passed, and by the time someone came and took our order we have been waiting for approximately 50 minutes. When our food arrived it has been a total of one hour and 15 minutes that we waited. There were people ahead of us who have been waiting longer to be served. I must say that the food turned out to be very very good, but the service was not the best. After paying for the meal, the lady apologized, stating that she had a new help worker, but to be honest, it appeared to us that they were not in any hurry to help their guests. At one point they even ran out of cups to serve water. There couldn't have been more than 25 guests in the restaurant. We will eat there again, but it will be carry out only. LB read more

I've been to Pakistan and India, spent over a month there driving around, and ate in local restaurants daily. Plus, I've eaten in dozen of Indo-Pak restaurants in the NYC, where I live. (I am vacationing in Racine.) Chit-Chaat very well might be the best ever. I give it 10 stars, not 5, if I could. Do yourself a favor: try this out. Warning: it is very authentic, so that means somewhat hot and spicy. If you do not like hot, spicy flavors, ask them to tone it down. But don't get me wrong. The heat is not overpowering, just spicier than most such Indo-Pak restos here in the states, where they make it bland for American tastes. I'd suggest you just trust the chef and take the food as prepared. Service was friendly and attentive, and the decor was creative. But the food, the flavors, the authenticity = cannot be beat. read more
