The aromas that hit your senses as you walk into Tandoor Curry Hotspot is something out of a dream! I've been to Tandoor twice: once with my book club and 6 other people, and another with a girl friend of mine. Both times, the staff was incredibly warm and kind, and both times my food was flavorful. I have had the bullet naan ($5) and the garlic naan. And both times I ordered a dish with paneer (I'm vegetarian, and love a good Indian dish with paneer). I will say, that the first time I was here, I ordered a glass of wine, and knew IMMEDIATELY as the wine was set down in front of me, that the wine was spoiled. The Pinto Grigio stank like an old Chardonnay and turned my stomach so badly after just one sip, I had to take my food to go and finished it the next day. I have also noticed that the water carafes and glasses were kind of dirty the two times that I was in here, and that's a huge turnoff for me when dining in a restaurant (hence the 4 stars, not 5). Found this restaurant on the "TooGoodToGo" app. There wasn't any specific area designated for the people waiting to sit, so I walked around the plaza. I found others waiting for their pick-up utilizing the nearby tables set up for customers. They have outdoor seating, gender neutral bathrooms, & a bar with liquor and masala chai to go. I was happy with the food (I got (paneer veggie dish). Overall, this is a Beautiful place covered in plants and leaves which gives a calming effect. The place is on the smaller end but clean. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. I do have other places I would go to if I did have a craving to eat Indian food outside my home. They had a spicy mango Margherita on the menu- don't get it unless you want a spicy margherita. It's not what you are envisioning( mango margherita with a spicy rim). Barely tasted alcohol in it and it was filled blended with jalapeños. The service was below average- even though when we went in, it wasn't busy. It took forever to get water at the table and plates for the main course despite food being at the table. There was a misunderstanding on the order and we were told they couldn't do anything about it to take the dish back. So we decided to eat from the 3 dishes placed on the table(since we had to pay for it) and then the chef came after and asked us what he can do since we already touched it. If we had known that they would have taken the plate back, we wouldn't have touched it. Lesson learnt: confirm your order with the server even though it's their job to do so. read more

My family and I found Tandoor Curry Hotspot to be a good restaurant to check out whenever you are in the mood for tasty Indian food. The restaurant was inviting with its aesthetics and decor. It was well lit and clean. The restaurant's menu has a good variety, and the dishes are reasonably priced in today's times. Located in a shopping center in Riverwoods, this restaurant is a good addition to the restaurants in the area (between Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire). We went here for dinner and were not disappointed. We were promptly seated and served based on when we ordered. The restaurant was busy with takeout orders. We were in the mood for North Indian cuisine, so we ordered Naan, Onion Kulcha, Tandoori Roti, Palak Paneer, Kadai Paneer, and Meerut-style Goat curry dishes, for our entrées. I ordered chicken wings for my appetizer and requested them to be prepared in Indian style (which is not how they are normally cooked). By Indian style, I meant with curry spices or sauce. Our server, who also seemed to be the manager of the restaurant, said no problem to my request. The food came out promptly. It smelled and looked good. My wings were prepared in tandoori style, and they were delicious. The wings were accompanied by a mint chutney, some grilled onions, and slices of lemon. The vegetarian dishes like Palak Paneer and Kadai Paneer were aromatic and flavorful. The spice level was to our liking as we had requested. My goat curry dish was requested to be extra spicy, and it was good as well. It was my favorite dish. The Naan, Kulcha, and Roti we ordered were on point, too. We also ordered Malai Kulfi, an Indian ice cream dessert, which was housemade. It was decent. Overall, we had a good experience and would go back for more. I came on a Tuesday night for dinner. There was just one other table being served and a couple of take out orders when I got here. A couple more tables filled up while I was here. This business is in a strip mall and fairly small. It seats up to 30 people. I ordered the Kadai chicken, which is a little spicy with paneer kulcha naan (cottage cheese and cilantro). Food was exceptional, which explains why the service was a little slow. Everything must be cooked to order. I know they said they could make it as spicy as I liked it. This is a fantastic Indian restaurant and a much needed gem in the northeshore. The food is excellent - fresh, high quality, perfect flavor. To name a few things - the Chicken Vindaloo and Biryani (any kind) are delicious. Get some garlic naan on the side to eat with the vindaloo, or really any stew/curry. The naan is always freshly baked and hot. My husband really likes the Chilly Chicken, which is an appetizer but you can get it with rice to make it a meal. We also like the lunch thalis every now and then. It's a good deal and you get to try a bunch of different things. Portions are very generous. We ordered a variety of items to try. We got the spicy chicken wings for an appetizer- they were not overly spicy which was nice. It also came with a green sauce that was a great accompaniment for the wings. We also ordered a mango lassi which was well made. For our mains we got an assorted tandoori bread basket, the kashmiri lamb rogan josh and the paneer Tikka masala. The food overall was good, nothing overly spicy and the flavors were as expected. This is a bit of a hidden gem in Deerfield, right across the street from Woodman's. Tandoor Curry Hotspot is a great Indian restaurant serving classic dishes such as Chicken Tikka Masala to a couple of items in addition to your typical Indian place. The food was fantastic and the space is really cute and elegant! I think just reading name alone, you think it's divey, but it's got more of a "boutiquey" jewel box. Feels pretty authentic. Made a whole yelp profile just for this review... I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant, as a whole. I ordered a too good to go mystery meal and was fully blown away by the quality of food. The chicken was so tender. Even the rice was somehow tender too (usually basmati rice tends to be drier but the basmati rice from here had a perfect balance of moisture while maintaining the integrity of basmati rice). It was so good that I called back, wanting to know how to order this meal again. I spoke with the owner who (first of all was so kind and also) told me he prepared the dish with ingredients that he had leftover at the end of the day. So, unfortunately there was no name for the dish, but instead he told me what I could order that would be similar. Regardless, suffice it to say that the owner is truly a master at the art of cooking. I have no question that anything I order will be made with the same level of deliciousness. I will undoubtedly be back for more! The only regret I have is not taking a picture to post with this review before my husband and I absolutely devoured the entire thing. So good! I wish I could say this was an enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in quite some time. I ordered minced lamb patties, and the very first one I touched was ice cold. Not lukewarm--not room temp--refrigerator cold. When I raised this concern with the owner, I expected an apology or a quick fix. Instead, I received a string of excuses about grill temperatures and forgotten items. After all that, the cold one was brought back to me hot, but the other ones were luke warm and I just gave up. The one hot one was tasty though to be fair. Then came the Daal Tadka, which I've enjoyed countless times at other restaurants. I ordered spicy, which typically in Indian Cuisine, is very spicy. There was no spice to this at all. This version was bland, gritty, and had a strange, overly thick consistency. The daal was crunchy. The "sauce" tasted like "pork and beans" sauce. When I voiced my concerns, I wasn't met with accountability or concern--just condescension. The owner told me I probably didn't know what authentic North Indian food tasted like, despite the fact that I eat Indian cuisine regularly and am very familiar with both North and South Indian dishes. Rather than taking constructive feedback seriously, he offered to "recommend something I would like" on a future visit--as if I would ever return. When the bill came, he tried to offer me a dessert as compensation, which I declined. Then he finally said, reluctantly, that he could offer me a mere 10% discount after barely touching any of the food. I guarantee you that I only ate 10% of my food. I literally had one teaspoon of that daal tadka. I spent $50 on a meal that consisted of one bite of lamb and a teaspoon of daal. I wish that the owner would have not spent all his time telling me how the nasty food wasn't really nasty but instead I must not know how it's supposed to taste. If I said it was nasty, and you see that I did not eat it, why wouldn't you offer some other type of food or comp it? One or the other.... Not to mention, why would you have an uber bland dish for someone who requested spicy. I have never been that disappointed in any Indian cuisine at any restaurant. I never leave reviews like this, but I felt compelled to share my experience so others are aware. I support small businesses, especially restaurants, and I understand everyone has an off day--but how a business handles those moments matters.
