I was pleasantly surprised with the flavors of the chicken from Flame Tree Barbecue! I normally only ever get chicken fingers and fries when inside Disney Parks, but my friend introduced me to this BBQ spot located inside Animal Kingdom. The cast members are always very sweet and I appreciated that they gave me a complimentary cup of ice for my Owala water bottle since it was such a hot day. The cornbread wasn't too dry, and it had chunks of corn in it. They also gave us two muffins instead of one! The rice was a little bland and could use more flavor, but the chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. This was the perfect meal to fuel us for the rest of the day. During a hot day at Animal Kingdom, I had to try the BBQ joint located inside. Flame Tree surpassed my expectations but that was due to the strength of two items: pulled pork and beans. The pulled pork was tender, juicy, and seasoned well. It was outstanding and was surprised at how good it was! The beans were also outstanding as they were full of smoky flavor and made on site. I would rank the chicken the next best item as it had lots of seasonings and a crispness to it that I enjoyed. I received white meat instead of dark meat so it was a little dry for me. The ribs weren't bad but they were overcooked. The slaw did had a good vinegar taste to it but I prefer a more diced slaw than Shredded. Two things that disappointed me were the BBQ sauce and the sweet tea situation everywhere in Disney World. The BBQ sauce was pre-packaged Ken's. The sauce was actually good. I just want a more homemade sauce. The only sweet tea available is the abomination known as Gold Peak from the tap. Come on Disney! Add some fresh-brewed sweet tea to the menu! I would also recommend the mac and cheese. It is at Flame Tree but I went around the corner to the Smiling Crocodile to get some gooey mac and cheese that made want to not see them in a while but asap. I've seen blog posts and videos about how Flametree BBQ was a solid choice and now that I've tried it I have to agree. A huge plus that's apparent right from the beginning is that they support mobile ordering. So while large quantities of people are standing in line you can just relax on the side and get notified when your food is ready. The portion sizes are enormous and can easily be shared. I would normally never order a dish that had mac n cheese, BBQ pork, and coleslaw all stacked on top of each other but I actually really like it. More flavorful than I was expecting. Target audience, I reckon. And the slaw was sad and pathetic. If you like slaw, skip this slaw so you're not insulted. I also got to try the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork (Baked Macaroni & Cheese topped with Smoked Pulled Pork, Crispy Onions, and Coleslaw). Really a sad amount of food, but what was there was nice. Cheesy mac, moist pork in every bite, and those onions added a wonderful texture. Always wanted to try Flame Tree but my kid doesn't like BBQ (!!!) so I decided to try it on a solo trip. I can definitely say this is dang good BBQ. I'm not a pulled pork fan but theirs was super moist and tender. Ribs were meaty and delicious. Chicken was fantastic. And the baked beans and slaw were a great side. Overall, this is waaaaay too much food and you could easily split it. And it's waaaaay too much food to eat on a hot Florida afternoon! I felt like a stuffed pig afterwards. Flame Tree BBQ is located at Disney's Animal Kingdom. We have walked by this place for as long as we can remember, but we have never actually stopped and ate here. I have read so many reviews about this being the best BBQ place at Disney, so we really were excited to finally try it out. Sadly, it was just ok, it truly was not my favorite, and I didn't quite understand the hype. I think this is more of the smells better than it actually is. My family was visiting so there was 5 of us total. We decided to mobile order and found a seat. I will say that their seating is massive, they have tables all over, more than you even know. If you walk past the restaurant, you are met with tons and tons of tables. Everything though, is outside. There are no indoor seats, and, in the summer, I could see this being very miserable to sit at and eat lunch. Some of the tables are under cover, but still outside, I also did not notice any fans. I honestly don't think I would go here in the summer. It's way too hot here in Florida. After grabbing our table, we did the mobile order. I would highly recommend doing this. It's all done in the app, they have photos of the food and when your order is ready, you just walk up and grab it. Our family all ordered different items. I feel like we had a good variety of choices from the menu. My sister ordered the Smokehouse Chicken Salad: Pulled Chicken on top of Mixed Greens Salad tossed with Smoked Cheddar, Diced Granny Smith Apples, Dried Cranberries, Cornbread Croutons, Crispy Onions, and Barbecue-Ranch Dressing. It was a nice size salad; she seemed to enjoy it. I personally do not like pulled chicken or pulled pork on salads, so it wasn't my cup of tea, but it looked good. My husband and my mom ordered the 1/2 Chicken: Marinated Slow-smoked Chicken served with Signature Baked Beans and Coleslaw. They both really enjoyed this. They commented on the flavor of the seasoning and how much they really enjoyed it. My dad, however, did not like it. He did not care for the taste of the chicken and the seasoning. He did enjoy his meal though; he ordered the Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich: Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich topped with Coleslaw and served with Signature Baked Beans. He enjoyed this a lot. The pulled pork was very tasty. I ordered a similar item. I went with a kid's meal since I wanted mac and cheese as well. So, I ordered Pulled Pork Platter: Served with choice of two Sides and choice of drink. This is my fault, but I assumed it would come with a smaller bun and be a sandwich. It was just a small cup of pulled pork with graham crackers next to it. It was not the best kids' meal compared to others at Disney. I also ordered a side of mac and cheese. It was very cold. I did have to take it back and that took so long, my actual food as well was cold by the time I got back. The mac and cheese the second time was hot, but they clearly scooped from the bottom, so the crusty top of cheese was missing. It was pretty decent mac and cheese though. It wasn't the best but really not bad for a theme park. I would get it again as a side or a snack. Overall, I was sort of disappointed with this. For almost $90 for quick service, I expected more. Again, I have heard so much about this location, even that they make their own BBQ sauce. I asked about it and they are no longer doing that; they serve pre-packaged sauce. I felt that the cast member was not super friendly. I asked to change one of the kid's meal sides and she told me no. My sister wanted extra cheese for her salad and she again, made faces, thought about it and then begrudgingly went and got it for her. I asked for additional sauce packets, not sure who wanted it, and was told it was 1 per meal. The cast member that helped replace my mac and cheese, when I went back was very friendly though, apologetic and replaced it right away. I just felt that this was ok. I might go back but honestly, I would probably just snack around Animal Kingdom, head over to Nomad Lounge or even eat at Pandora. This is a standard park fare food, if you enjoy BBQ, it is a decent place to go. The view can be really great if you really walk down, you can sit on the water actually. When my partner had brought over our meal, unfortunately, one of the animals at Animal Kingdom swooped down and ate some of the mac n cheese pulled pork! Luckily for us, one of the cast members saw this and put in a new order for us. Unfortunately, we had to throw the food out as the cast member said we couldn't eat it. The wait wasn't too long, approximately 10 minutes and one of the Disney World team members brought our order out to the table. The Mac N Cheese pulled pork was scrumptious. The BBQ was sweet, but the flavor mixed well with the pulled pork. It was so filling, I couldn't eat it all! My partner enjoyed the ribs. My daughter ate all of the chicken leg! This restaurant is slightly on the more expensive options in Animal Kingdom, but it's totally worth it. The food quality is outstanding and you're provided a lot of food! They serve meals as well as snacks and a couple of alcoholic drinks. We have always wanted to try this location as it smells so good. We have read tons of reviews and word of mouth about how great it is, so we decided to check it out recently with our family. Overall, I was disappointed with this spot. For almost $90 for quick service, I expected more. Yes, there were 5 of us, it is Disney prices, but one of us ordered a kid's meal. We did not order alcohol or desserts, just meals and 2 sodas. I truly did not understand the hype with the food. It smells better than it actually is. Pro's- there are tons of seats. You should not have an issue grabbing a seat. Another pro is the mobile order. Sit down, order your food and then wait for it to be ready. My con's for this start with the seating. It was a nice portion as well. My mother-in-law and myself ordered the 1/2 Chicken: Marinated Slow-smoked Chicken served with Signature Baked Beans and Coleslaw. This was really good. We both really enjoyed the smoky flavor on the chicken, it was juicy and very tasty. My father-in-law order the Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich: Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich topped with Coleslaw and served with Signature Baked Beans. He enjoyed this a lot and ate the entire sandwich. My wife ordered a kid's meal with the side of mac and cheese. She ordered the Pulled Pork Platter: Served with choice of two Sides and choice of drink. She was disappointed, it did not have a bun, literally just pulled pork in a cup with an orange and graham cracker on a plate. It was pretty sad. In their defense, it did not say it was a sandwich, we just assumed it would be like a slider bun. I don't think most kids are eating pulled pork on their own without a bun. It was fine she said. It unfortunately was cold since she had to go back about the mac and cheese. Once she had warm mac and cheese, she did say she would order it again as a snack. Overall, I think this was just ok. The food was good, I sort of expected more with all the positive word of mouth I had heard. They no longer make their own BBQ sauce; it is not Ken's prepackaged. I think this is a decent stop, if you want BBQ. It is different for sure, for a theme park. I would never eat here in the summer; it is just too hot and no indoor seating. I thought it was rather expensive for 4 adult meals, 1 kids' meal and 2 drinks. This might just be a snack stop for us in the future. But there are other options that we might go back and try. Yes, Flame Tree Barbecue is quite expensive, but the food and the seating area really made it a worthwhile visit when eating at Animal Kingdom. As the Animal Kingdom gets closer to close, not as many of the restaurants or food spots stay open making the choices slim. My first choice for food was Eight Spoon Cafe for their Pulled Pork Jelly Doughnut Sandwich, but by the time we were hungry for dinner, it had sadly closed. The only place left open that had anything close was Flame Tree Barbecue. My friend and I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the St. Louis Ribs plate. The pulled pork sandwich (4/5) was solid with flavorful juicy pieces of pulled pork with tangy coleslaw in between soft buns. If there could have been a bit more coleslaw to help balance it all out, I would have been super happy with this. The St. Louis Ribs (3.5/5) was another solid plate with several well cooked and seasoned ribs but nothing amazing. What I really enjoyed was the seating area. Although I have read some blogs say that it can get busy, when I got there around dinner time, it was pretty much free seating for their outdoor patio that overlooks the Discovery River. We were even able to score seats with that awesome view of Expedition Everest around sunset! As most other popular fast casual dining options at Disney World, I would highly encourage to plan ahead and use the Disney mobile app to order. Remember to go back into the app and say that you have arrived so that they can have the food ready by the time you are there! 4.5 stars Mom and I shared the combo rib and chicken with baked beans and coleslaw. We both enjoyed it very much and would definitely recommend it. The plate only comes with 2 ribs and a very lean chicken thigh leg. The bbq sauce was very much to my liking - wasn't too sweet or salty, just right with a bit of a kick. Baked beans were surprisingly my favorite! As far as theme-park food goes, this is the best I've had. Sure, the ribs aren't fall off the bone tender or the portions big, but it's a decent meal. The prices for Disney parks will always be $$ to $$$, so it might as well be pleasant. Seating is difficult to find and, when it's a bit rainy, the ground makes for an uncomfortable experience, especially since the flooring is uneven and textured throughout Animal Kingdom (which means water pools in certain areas). But once you do find seating, the atmosphere here is quite nice. As someone who is new to using the Disney app's mobile ordering system, I struggled with understanding the pickup procedure and am grateful there were cast members around to explain how and where I should wait.
