My daughter has been going here for a little over 2 years. There are a lot of girls but I appreciate that the rotations are organized and the kids get to do each scheduled event. The negative reviews regarding instructors and who I like to call the "trunchbull" are accurate. We decided to take advantage of the free course for my 3 year old daughter. They allegedly allowed 3-5 year olds to join their classes so we thought we'd give it a shot. The instructors were awful, none of them knew it was my daughter's first class, and they lacked patience in her ability to understand what they were wanting her to do. At the end of the course, the "trunchbull" instructed the instructor to tell us that our daughter can't comprehend gymnastics lingo and to come back in a few months when she's older. Well....no duh lady! She's 3 and has NEVER done gymnastics in her life. How is she supposed to know what a high kick is or how to balance on a beam? I would strongly suggest not advertising you allow 3 year olds because your instructors and yourself have no patience for them and truly have no plan to acclimate a new beginner. I'll be happy to take my daughter elsewhere that is actually clean too. read more

A serious gym for serious athletes. Very structured and knowledgeable. One of the best competition teams in AZ.

Seems like a good place for kids. One instructor needs better child friendly training as well as culturally awareness. Mrs kimberly had my granddaughter crying after telling her about the poor job she was doing at her 2nd visit. I would not EVER give this place or this company any stars at all. I would rate them negative stars. I had my daughters go here ages 4 and up and they basically ruined gymnastics for them. My 4 year old constantly was getting yelled at, no matter if she listens or not it didn't matter, then she wanted to draw her teacher pictures to help her teacher maybe show more Compassion towards a 4 year old , but NOPE. Instead she would hold the pictures up in front of the other parents and make fun of her pictures.. her name is Kimberly by the way so if you see she is "teaching" your kids or kid I would highly recommend to get them as far from her as you can. She doesn't have kids of her own nor does she know how to work with such young kids. If kids can't do it perfect the teachers act like jerks to the children. Then one day Kimberly had the audacity to ask if our child was ever in daycare , I told her no and she told me that we should have put her in one and maybe she would know how to listen!! Again this lady has no training for kids at all, nor does she have her own but she decided to make a comment on how we parent and the lack of daycare we put our daughter in. Then our 6 year old that was going there loved it and was doing great, a little back story on her is she has a hip and knee problem that causes her to not be able to walk straight at all, we do therapy for it but it will take time, so anytime she couldn't bend straight ( because she physically can't ) or if she couldn't keep her knees straight the one instructor who was a young male with a rat haircut kept telling her " you can't do anything right it's so annoying teaching you" she became Very very sad and did not want to return back. So now two out of three of my kids they have made feel like shit and made them never want to do gymnastics ... we were very upset because this was suppose to be a fun activity, it's not like we had them there because they wanted to be Olympics in gymnastics and if they did we would put them in a more reputable gym... Listen the coaches do not know how to work with young kids at all. Even older girls they seem to crush them before praising them. Our oldest daughter there competed in comps and wanted to badly be done . I don't blame her, they taught her the routine super late in the game but waste a lot of the time you're paying them for. The couches stand around and talk about the kids.. then one day we come in and there are signs in the parent seating area basically saying no gossiping and it's suppose to be a fun environment.... Yet all the couches and even the lady behind the desk talk terrible about the kids , their parents and the owner... They also have a big display of snacks and soda you can buy or not want to buy but you get to listen to your kids whine about wanting it. Well I witnessed on many occasions parents buying treats for their kids then the staff immediately talk badly about the parent buying such things!!!!! Then why self crap food and candy and soda ?? Why ? Oh because this gym is beyond greedy and doesn't care about anything but money. I wouldn't never ever trust them with your kids , especially younger kids. And the fact that the staff almost brags that if your kids stay there until there teen years they will have major back problems and most likely to never be able to do any other sports... I'm sorry but I'm Not sorry. This gym is a disgrace for gymnastics for kids. The competition is a waste of money and time because the owner NEVER has her stuff together. I was so embarrassed for not only us at competition but for our kids. So unorganized and just not professional at all for the amount of money you pay. Please do your research and trust your instincts . We actually Met many other parents at the new gym we go that have had the same issue with Flames. Their children came out of flames being so discouraged and just not happy. The gym will try to stop you from taking your child out claiming the gym and coaches would miss your child but they won't, they will miss the money you're gonna waste there. I'm so happy we are done with that gym and never have to go back again. I'm glad we got out of there before real damage happened not only mentally but physically happened to our child. If love your child do not send them here. Oh and if you want a refund it will take weeks to get back . Both my girls love gymnastics here. My oldest daughter is on team and really growing. My youngest is rec and really loves everything about the class. I am now taking an adult tumbling class. It is so much fun...I hate working out but this feels more like playtime with other silly moms like myself. Jason is amazing and we love all the coaches. read more

This is a great Gymnastics Academy. The coaches focus on teaching, not only the needed skills, but the structure of the skills. I've heard some complain that the coaches nitpick, I see it as teaching proper gymnastics. The lady at the front desk is very friendly and knowledgeable. This location doesn't have a direct phoneline. When you call you will get the owner, who answers phone calls for all 3 locations. I prefer to speak directly to the lady at the location. She's very patient with all my questions and doesn't mind answering the same questions repeatedly when I don't understand or remember. My child is making great progress and is on her way to test for team soon. I think I love seeing her learn new skills as much as she loves learning them. I would highly recommend the Flames in Avondale. read more

My 6 yr old daughter wanted to give gymnastics a shot. First time there and had a free lesson. They proceeded to stretch, all new to my daughter. She wasnt quit e getting it and one of the coaches was instructing her. Well after a few tries the coach starting raising her voice. Telling her "do it, do it." Just was not a pleasant experience for a first timer. Needless to say, we wont be going back. read more

I had my daughter at another place for gymnastics last year. She learned really great foundations there, but her form was being ignored. We tried this place out and saw how they brought our bug's attention back into the lesson, corrected her form, and didn't make her flounder on her own during class time. We've been going for just shy of 2 months, but handstands are straighter, kick overs are happening, and soon, I can see that she will be able to conquer those parallel bars! read more

I have put this review off 5 days (attended their introductory 'free' 1st class on 7/22) because of how infuriated I was (and still am)....didn't want to rip into anyone based on pure emotions...but, the more time that goes by, the more I realize what an absolute JOKE this place is. I can't say it loud enough....STAY CLEAR!! It took all of my strength (and my wife's') to not jump the wall and walk on to the floor to have a word with the 'worker' at this place. The kids they have 'teaching' kids....plain and simple...They are terrible...they don't want to be there and it shows on their face and body language. The way the address and talk to the kids (newcomers and PAYING customers) is deplorable. This includes groups/classes that my kids were not part of, but were in plain view of all parents attending. The front desk ignored our request for my son's class (5 years old)---put him on rings, etc....WAY over what he can do as a 1st-timer....boy was fighting tears the ENTIRE time, but pushed through to make US proud. His 'coach', who had a total of TWO (2) kids with him, was obviously inconvenienced with doing any work----showed ZERO patience for the boys. ***YOU ARE PROMOTING A SERVICE----TO TAKE OUR MONEY*** Seriously can't see how this place continues----limited competition in the area, I guess. This is teaching 101-----you MODEL the desired behavior/task/etc.....just telling a 5 year old what to do and getting 'upset' he cannot do it shows the lack of training and ethics held by Flames. When your 5 year old says that his coach was 'mad' at him because he could not do certain.....and 5 days later makes an EXCITED comment at his sister's dance class (another business) how happy and ecstatic that, "Her coach isn't getting mad at her!".....well, what does that tell you. Do your homework....SO many other places out-and-about there...may not be as convenient/close but you won't have your child's 1st experience deter them from experiencing the excitement that comes from something that should be enjoyable. read more

My child has been attending for a few months now. I haven't seen any significant difference in my childs abilities. Some of the coaches are quite more militant than others. An instructor bullied my child using inappropriate language to address my childs form. When I brought it to the attention of the owner she denied her instructor would use words and before even speaking with the instructor, then called me back only to criticize my childs behavior.......first time I ever heard their was a problem. I was looking for a positive safe environment to introduce gymnastics to my two daughters however we were greatly disappointed. Not only do the instructors lack patience and positive attitudes they are ill equipped to handle the amount of volume of children per class! Steer clear! Worst experience ever read more

I brought my child here based on the positive views on Yelp, however, we had a horrible experience here. One of the instructors seems to think she's training Olympic ready athletes as opposed to young, inexperienced children. Completely unprofessional. We did not feel welcome here at all. read more
