The range of colors, textures, and sublime flavors in the Tampiquena Mar Y Tierra is what makes this five star. This was a delicious, multi-faceted meal, at a very good price. The service is also exceptionally attentive and kind.
There were two meats, one stringy but flavorful and nicely medium rare but seared outside, the other tender and succulent. The 'shrimp' listed as part of the meal came, surprisingly, as one shrimp floating in a broth in a glass before the main course - - but this added to the dimensionality of the meal. The two mojos (oil based, not typical salsas) seemed a mash of seeds with oil, and had unique character, going well both on the interesting crispy thing they came with, as well as with the main course. The black beans, guac, enchilada chunks, and poblano pepper rajas made for a really satisfying flavor ensemble.
The atmosphere at the street tables isn't as convivial as places on the main drag, but the food is stellar. read more
