(We did find a few of the people working a bit rude (the young woman working at the deli counter seemed to not want to be bothered to help anyone and then tried to overcharge us, the other was the woman stocking shelves who seemed very perturbed when asked a question about where an item was located. Not a good look, ladies!...but I find that behavior is more the norm and to be expected in Colorado small towns where everybody thinks they are healthier and better looking than everyone else! lol) If you're looking for quality products, and don't care about a little bit of attitude, this is your spot!

Second, it's mostly a bakery with the most unusual rye, sourdough and other breads I've ever had. Third, they sell packages of other things like grits, porridge, blue corn flour and more. We had several of them during a recent stay in Cortez. All were unusual and good. They also sell seeds, beans and more. The atmosphere is sort of warehouse/bakery/general store. Did I mention everything is locally grown! This is the kind of place the New York Times should write about. By far, my favorite place in Cortez. Check it out if they're open !

August 12, 2026 - Ridgway, CO…read more I'm not sure how the locals afford these prices. We were visiting and needed to pick up a few staples, so we stopped here. I was surprised by some of the prices, so I checked my receipt against current average grocery prices in Colorado. It turns out our total was approximately 15% higher than the Colorado average. Of course, this is a mountain town, so you expect prices to be a bit higher. But some items were significantly more expensive. A few examples: Chobani yogurt: ($9.49 vs. $6.49 average) Cherub tomatoes: ($5.99 vs. $3.99 average) Fairlife milk: ($7.49 vs. $5.99 average) Havarti cheese: ($8.49 vs. $6.40 average) Looking back, there were definitely a few things I should have skipped. The shopping experience itself could have been better, too. They were restocking shelves while we were there, and there were boxes and merchandise that we had to maneuver our cart around. One item I wanted was behind a pile of things waiting to be stocked. I was trying to get to it, but the stocker completely ignored me. Not cool. Lesson learned: Double-check prices when shopping in small mountain towns, and buy only the items you absolutely need.
