I use a ride share app myself but for my client's first ride alone I opted to call Radio Cab because it is what the concierge at her community uses. The Radio Cab dispatcher was laughably rude. He angrily refused to give a driver ETA "I have no way of knowing! I don't want to lie to you." I explained that my client was a sight impaired senior citizen and told the dispatcher that she was anxious. He responded with another impatient retort. After waiting with her and her dog for one hour I gave up and installed Lyft on her phone. Nine minutes later a kind driver appeared in a beautiful, spotless, well air conditioned (it was 90 degrees outside) car. My client's Radio Cab arrived 45 minutes later, almost 2 hours after I called. Two weeks ago I received a frantic call from a resident at the same facility who was stranded at her bank after waiting over an hour for her Radio Cab. I was with another client so she had to be rescued my the community's medical transport car. How is Radio Cab still in business? Starting tomorrow, I will be helping residents install the Lyft app and giving one on one instructions to help them become comfortable with this far superior option.

With just two more MAX red lines scheduled to go all the way to my son's hotel at that hour and neither of us ever having been to Portland, I wanted to make sure he played it safe and take a taxi. We didn't need to comb through reviews here and at Google, but we did need to establish criteria before my son cross-referenced what customers were saying about 24-hour taxis in order to make the best choice. Seriously, read a few from other taxi companies. When I learned that he'd chosen Metro Cab, had already contacted them through their online form with all of the information they needed, and that they'd sent a professional reply within 30 minutes, I started to relax. After my son thought to change the pick up time in case of unforeseen delays, they quickly texted back saying that they'd be waiting for him by the agreed upon arrival time. Then the day before my son's flight, Metro Cab touched base to say they were still available. So professional. Of course, my son confirmed that he'd still be flying out. What I liked most about Metro Cab was that they'll use the flight number you give them to monitor things on their end. This was super important because my son's flight was set to be delayed by an hour before they even took off from Bush. *eye roll emoji* My son's experience with Metro Cab was so seamless that he didn't bother taking the MAX Red back to the airport after his conference ended, even though it was broad daylight. It was Metro Cab or bust.* Thanks Metro Cab! *A true surprise to me since my son initially didn't see anything wrong with taking a gamble on the Red line in the eleventh hour, a natural side effect of being an NYC subway passenger.

The gentlemen we had were friendly and took care of all of our luggage. The company has great communication. We were scheduled to be picked up at 4:45am but at around 9pm the night before I started getting nervous that we should leave a few minutes earlier, so I sent them an email asking if we could leave at 4:30am instead, really not expecting anyone to respond in time. They actually emailed me back within 10 minutes and confirmed the earlier pick-up time. Then, our return flight landed at PDX (an unheard of!) 40 minutes early. As soon as we touched down I texted the number to see if there would be any way someone could come pick us up for 40 minutes earlier than planned, again not necessarily expecting a response - especially since it was close to midnight. However, they texted me back instantly that my driver would be in touch with me soon, and sure enough our driver texted me within a few minutes. By the time we grabbed our suitcases off of the conveyor and walked a few minutes to the curb, our driver was already there and waiting despite us being 40 minutes early - and, again, it was close to midnight on a Wednesday. We are customers for life!

I would say completely blows Uber, Lyft and any other taxi service out of the water. I felt like I was riding in the taxi with a friend or a long time family member. Safe driver? I think it was his son who picked us up for our return trip home a week later. Our flight landed 15 minutes early and he was already at PDX, parked and waiting for us. He also was very friendly with just the right amount of conversation, and he didn't even bat an eye at my 49.5 pound suitcase! The Good: The driver was incredibly friendly and chatty. He actually gave us some fantastic restaurant recommendations to check out while we celebrate my birthday here in Portland. The Bad: The interior of the car was quite smelly, which wasn't a great way to start the trip. The Unacceptable: We took the cab late at night (around 10:50 PM) with absolutely zero traffic. The 20-minute ride somehow racked up a $58 meter fare, which seemed unusually high even with the standard airport drop fee. However, the real issue happened at drop-off. I handed the driver a $100 bill, and he claimed he couldn't break it, returning only $30, essentially forcing the airport run to a whopping $70 out-of-pocket. While I appreciated the local dining tips, using the "no change" excuse on arriving airport passengers is an unprofessional way to pocket extra cash. Tip for future riders: If you take a cab from the PDX line, make sure you pay with a credit card or carry exact change so you don't get hit with a forced tip.
