Delicious food! I've never gotten something here that wasn't good. The owners are so friendly and genuinely want you to enjoy their food. Flavory is easily one of my favorite restaurants! However, they only have one waiter for the entire restaurant and service is often very slow because of it. Be prepared to wait for refills and your bill when it's busy. read more

I went to Flavory tonight with a group of 7. It is honestly one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere. I rarely venture out to the suburbs but I will be back! The couple that owns this restaurant both welcomed us and treated us like family. Typically their paella requires a call-ahead because it is a bit time consuming but they let us know that they had a slower night and could make it if we'd like. Once our party saw another tables paella the seafood fans decided they wanted it too. The owner was also our server and he gave us a complementary hummus plate since it would be a wait. I'm a vegetarian and the Mediterranean platter was phenomenal and includes items like a bean dish I hadn't tried before. It was enough food for at least 2 people. Our table enjoyed the cheese plate appetizer too. The owner refilled my wine for free because the bottle was near the end. I felt so welcomed. I can not recommend this enough, this restaurant is enough to make this suburb-averse woman a fan. read more

It was raining and I didn't know exactly where the place was. So left earlier than usual. I arrived before they opened and was told I could sit at a table and wait. At a little after 11:00 my sister came in and saw me sitting in the dark at the back of the restaurant,( not a problem because I was there too early). The place was empty, and we started moving to another table up by the front windows. I told the big, grouchy man we would like to move and he got very angry, so we went back to the first table, still in the dark empty restaurant. Big, angry, grouchy man started berating me for being rude, throwing silverware packages and menus on the table, honestly! We just stood there, eyes wide, and left. I am in my early 70's, so been to lots of places. I have to laugh about it now, but not so pleasant that day. If you go there, do NOT seat yourself or ask for a different table, if the big grouchy man is around. read more

My wife and I both had the gyro and were very disappointed, the beef and pork meat had very little flavor and it was more like kabob meat than your typical thin sliced gyro meat, the tzatziki sauce was very bland. We also order the hummus appetizer and it was probably the worst hummus that I have had it was very dry and lacked any flavor. Basically if you want flavorless Greek food then this place is for you. This is such a great addition to Ankeny. The Lamb/beef mix in their beef gyro is super flavorful and perfectly grilled. Their hummus is excellent, and their cucumber sauce seems to be freshly made. Everything is made fresh in front of you as the kitchen can be seen by the customers. I will definitely be coming back anytime I'm hungry for some Mediterranean. read more

I have eaten here twice, and each time was a lovely experience. I recommend sitting up a the bar and enjoying the company of the chef as they prepare all of the dishes. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I highly recommend the cabbage soup! So many different levels of flavor. I've also split the Mediterranean platter with my boyfriend and we could not finish all of its goodness and had to take some home. Word on the street is that they are now doing call in/take out orders! Looking forward to going through every item on the menu! read more

I ordered for pickup. I got a Mediterranean platter and the warm Spartan salad (special request). Everything was very flavorful and tasted very fresh. The mushrooms, salads, hummus, Lima beans, eggplant, and vegetables were all delicious. I have one critique for the falafel that came with the platter. It was mediocre, a little too much crunch because of its small size. It's nice to include 4 small (mini-muffin-sized) ones, but I'd rather have 2 regular-sized tasty ones. They were also accommodating of food allergies! Yay! I will definitely order again and I definitely recommend. :-) read more

Run don't walk, what a find!!!! Grab a seat at the bar and watch the chefs do their magic. My wife and I celebrated a birthday. We walked in starving, ordered the Mediterranean feast and still brought home leftovers. The chicken and lamb is so rich in flavor and tender while the Greek style salad is top notch. What an amazing change of pace from the basic fare that seems to dominate the DM Metro scene. Hector and Lisa have something very special going here. Huge DISAPPOINTMENT. We had a reservation (just for a party of five) and were seated fairly quickly, but then it took over 20 minutes to have our order taken. After that we sat there for AN HOUR without any food, having been told multiple times "just a few more minutes" and "it's being plated now." Even when we asked for some sort of bread or hummus while we waited, nothing was ever brought to us. Finally we got up to leave (after over an hour of waiting) and no one offered any explanation or genuine apology for the terrible service. read more

Really wanted to try this place. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon. The place had diners but wasn't really busy. The owner pointed us to a table so we grabbed some menues and sat down. A waitress brought us waters and said she would be back to take our orders. Well... a good ten minutes passed while we sat there waiting. And waiting. All the while this waitress did busywork like cleaning other tables, filling bottles with olive oil, etc. We even made eye contact a number of times but still she would not return. So we got up and left, and I am writing this review at Fong's Pizza around the corner where I can report that the service is very attentive. I doubt we'll ever return to Flavory. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Flavory a month or so ago and I have been meaning to write this review! I had the Mediterranean/Greek salad hand it was just fantastic. Then the proprietor/chef, Lisa Jerinic-Morales treated me with the absolute best baklava (home-made) and also a small slice of her homemade chocolate cake that is still etched in my taste memory! I live in LA and there are amazing Greek, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants here and I would rank Flavory just as amazing if not better! I highly highly recommend Flavory. I've just eaten one of the most flavorful fresh plates of creative food in my life! In town on business, the Mediterranean focus and enthusiastic Yelp reviews drew me here. I had the lamb plate and chose the grilled vegetables and garden salad with its tangy yogurt dressing that paired perfectly with the spiced lamb patty strips. The star of the plate is Lisa's original soft cheese, which melded with my bites of lamb in a taste combo reminiscent of gyros with tztatziki but a galaxy above in flavor both simply fresh and yet sophisticated. My first meal in Ankeny was delicious. From the meze platter to the entree to the espresso the quality here is on par with what I might find in NYC. I also took home a green juice for later which was perfectly crafted. Fresh food, organic food- chef even let us try her homemade cheese. Entirely possible I will eat here every day. I had such high hopes for this place but I've never been more disappointed in my life. I came in with a party of three and had to wait and hour for our food but, that wasn't even the worst of it. I was told that this was a cozy, home feeling restaurant so we assumed that jeans and sweatshirts would be more than okay but judging by how they treated us, I guess it's not. When our male server, I assume he owner, finally came to our table, we were greeted with 'ready to order? I have waters coming.' We were never offered any other drinks and he walked away from the table after he told us to not steal anything. After the hour wait, our food came out at different times with the last thing being silverware. Our waters, the only thing we could afford to buy apparently, were only refilled once as we were handing them the check. If I could give this place negative stars I would. One of the worst eating experiences of my life. read more

Food was very good, nice ambience but kitchen personnel was disorganized. It took an hour for them to prepare 4 simple entrees (only one had side dishes). We were lucky that only 5 tables were occupied, otherwise we would have been there until closing. Given the open plan structure, I saw clearly they didn't even start on our order until 35 minutes after we ordered. I appreciate all food is made fresh but this is simply unprofessional. I'll give it another try in a year or so, maybe they will have figure out how a professional kitchen works.... read more
