Fleet Feet rocks. The staff here is terrific. They are runners so they know what they're talking about. They're super friendly & helpful, too. FF is a great place for a novice runner to come for advice on selecting a running shoe. They won't laugh at you or act condescending. Instead, they'll listen to you, observe your gait, and give you a variety of excellent options to choose from. FF can also help if you're a seasoned runner whose shoe needs have changed. When I wasn't getting enough arch support in my shoes, the FF staff was able to suggest exactly what I needed (same shoe, new insole). FF has all sorts of gear in addition to shoes: apparel, socks, GU, fuel belts, water bottles, hats, watches, etc. If you need it (or just want it) for running, FF's probably got it. The store itself is small and cramped, which can make shopping here a bit of a challenge when it's busy. But they'll let you take a little jog outside to test out the shoes you try on. And the overstuffed interior isn't that bad--just think of it as an overflowing treasure chest of running stuff. read more

I don't know about you, but most of my shoe shopping experiences are pretty underwhelming. At some understaffed stores I'm lucky if I get any service at all. And when I do, it consists of the clerk retrieving the size and style of shoe I've requested. That's it. Sound familiar? Now I'm guessing there was a time when all shoe stores and shoe departments were run like Fleet Feet, but these days its superlative customer service is such an aberration that it merits the praise everyone heaps on it. Owner Phil Fenty, a legend in this town, has clearly passed along the magic of good customer service to everyone who works for him. Upon entering the store you're given a friendly greeting, and the place is so well-staffed that even on a busy day I've never waited for assistance. These folks are incredibly knowledge, too. They know feet and shoes, and enjoy fitting customers with the best possible shoe given their particular needs. Little did I know until my first visit that I have wide feet! No rush either. Fleet Feet wants you to walk away fully satisfied with your purchase. In fact, they insist that you take a good, long walk, not just around the store, but up the street, to ensure you've found the right shoe. It's rewarding to find a store that is so consistently good. I recently bought 2 new pairs of shoes from Fleet Feet and found the staff to be extremely nice and helpful. Even my boyfriend, who was buying a pair of warm ups, commented on how outstanding the service was. They seem to be genuinely friendly here (am I still on the east coast?!). My only complaint is that the woman who helped me simply studied my feet and then started bringing out shoes. I want to know what exactly she saw that made her think those shoes were the right ones for me, but it was not really obvious. As soon as I tried to tell her more about how often I run or if I pronate, she just seemed to act like none of that information mattered and everything she'd chosen from the 5 second foot inspection was dead on with what I was telling her. Whoa... psychic? Good news is you can try out the shoes and return them if they start to hurt your feet, but still look new... after one run outside or maybe a few times at the gym. For someone like me, I always need more than the obligatory run outside and it's usually right as I'm signing the credit card receipt that my foot starts to hurt. They want you to be happy here, and they will take them back. I'm not convinced that either pair of shoes I got here was the ultimate in perfection, but that's not the store's fault. I think I found my new runners store! I randomly passed this store on one of my runs and decided to take a look based on how sore I was, it was time to get a new pair of running shoes. I explained that I needed shoes that can pull me through this winter runs, and they delivered the perfect pair. Phillip was great at explaining the type of feet I have and the shoes I needed to support them. Bonus: He showed me how to tie my shoe so that I can have more support, I loved the service and I will be returning in the spring to get a minalist shoe for spring to summer runs. I keep talking about running another, but... Anyway, all green monsters aside, when I asked where she got her shoes, she pointed me toward Fleet Feet. After reading fellow Yelpers' reviews, I ran my way over there (and ran back in a new pair of Asics)! Super helpful and friendly staff members who know what they're talking about. You can't ask for better. Believe me, I've been to a LOT of running stores. I'm hoping to run my 300-400 miles out of these shoes fast so I can visit again really soon. I was a little bummed when I left Arlington and had to find a local runners' store to replace PACERS. In no way am I trying to dis the Virginia Institution, but I gotta say, Fleet Feet is awesome in its own right. If you're a runner, you know that shoes are very important when you're logging training miles. The people here seem to understand that, and they're incredibly patient while you kick the tires. Like a bunch of people before have said, they let me run three different pairs of shoes down the block while they minded my pile of stuff. What's more: I had three employees doting on me when I went in to pick up a pair of replacement running shoes -- and I went there in the middle of Saturday Afternoon at the peak of race season when they were swamped. They're a locally-owned-and-operated business (obviously) active in local and national politics. Bonus points. The only reason they don't get five stars is I think the store, which is obviously successful, could have a bit more soace and inventory. And could be a little less mainstream in the inventory they have. It's always fun when you can find a running store with funky stuff and fun t-shirts. read more

Incredible service, extremely knowledgeable staff, and totally reasonable prices! The gentleman who helped me today knew just as much about pronated arches and my orthotics as my podiatrist! They watched how I stood and how I ran (down the block!!), so they were able to get the pair of shoes that fit me perfectly. I don't know a ton about running, but he explained in detail why each pair of shoes was a good match, so I am very comfortable knowing that these shoes are good for me. The best! I've been going here for many years. They are so on target with matching your running style and problems to running shoes. If you are sad that your shoe has been discontinued, and you've run out of the 5 shoes you stocked up, then this is the place to go to find a replacement. This is a several generation store which has been in the area for over 20 years. The reputation is impeccable and as you can see, so are the reviews! Love it. He checked the shape and pronation of my feet, recommended several different pairs, and even let me run around the block in every pair I tried on. I recently started playing rugby, so I began a search for a decent pair of cleats that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg (in case the rugby thing didn't work out). I hit a couple of bigger name chain sporting goods stores with no success. Either, they didn't have my size, or the only pair they had in stock cost $160 and none of the sales staff at either store seemed to know the difference between types of cleats, etc... Enter Yelp. I saw such great reviews for Fleet Feet in Adams Morgan and decided to head over there- and boy am I glad that I did. Upon entering I was politely greeted without being immediately pounced upon. They had cool music playing and soccer on the tv. So far, so good... I was given time to find get my bearings and find the section of shoes I wanted then was promptly approached a SUPER nice guy whose name I believe was Steve (I feel awful for forgetting to be sure about his name). He inquired as to what I was looking for and he brought out a couple pair of cleats for me to try on. He, very expertly explained how they should fit as he put them on for me and had me walk around. When I asked about price points and explained that I just wanted a mid-range priced pair in case I didn't stick with rugby, he was very understanding and didn't try to pressure me into the more expensive pair. He was awesome. He then assisted me with a bag as well and escorted me to check out. The cashier was super friendly as well. I paid and they wished me good luck with the game, etc... All around this experience was perfect. Expertise, friendly, amazing customer service... just like the good old days when people were nice and helpful to their clientele. Fantastic service! The staff is extremely knowledgable & personable. I explained one of the problems that I was having (arch pain) & the guy (forgot his name) asked if I had heal pain & numbness, YES! He gave me the correct running shoe & a dress shoe insert. I didn't realize I was wearing the wrong size running shoe. I have been using my new shoes & inserts for 3 weeks now and I haven't had any pain at all. I wish I had found them sooner. Brilliant! I dealt with Phil, who must be one of the coolest men alive. He was a total sweetheart too. I've had 2 stress fractures and annoying high-arched feet so buying shoes is a bit stressful. Want them to be right! He was lovely. We were deciding between two and I was dispatched to run up and down the block in each pair and then with one of each! I never felt rushed and he was just so so pleasant. All of the staff were just lovely-when Phil went away to choose shoes for me one of the younger guys chatted to me and the girl on the register was absolutely lovely too. It was a great experience and I think I've found the right shoes now! I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone and they are no more expensive than any other store. In fact, my shoes were probably a bit cheaper than in some other places. Great range of clothing, accessories and watches too....going to pop back to buy a watch for my friend tomorrow. She's been looking for one for ages and I eventually saw the ideal one there. Definitely worth the trip, even if you aren't in the Adams Morgan area. I'm a big fan of this store. Most other reviews have definitely attested to the fact that there is a great selection of products here, but I found the customer service to be top-notch and most worthy of praise. From what I can tell, everyone who works here has a real passion for running (or competitive endurance trials like the Ironman, etc.) and that shows in their approach to help you get what you need when you come in. Okay, I admit it. I go here secreting wishing Mayor Adrian Fenty is manning the register when I visit. Honestly, I really haven't returned to Fleet Feet since I moved out of Adams Morgan. Even though it's part of a larger franchise and offers a number of shoe and apparel options from running specific brands, it still feels like a quaint mom and pop shop. And that's a good thing. I know they offer a number of shop-run runs (weird sentence, eh?) during the week. Of those, I did none. I'm pretty sure I bought a pair of New Balances from Fleet Feet a few years ago, and I had no complaints about the service or the sizing. But honestly, I prefer going to Georgetown Running shop. I ventured into Fleet Feet after having positive experiences at the Houston location years ago. Phil was there to greet me and find me a new pair of gloves. I mean running shoes. Running shoes that fit like a glove. After watching my gait, looking at the shape of my foot, and listening to my past experiences with other pairs of running shoes, Phil pulled 3 pairs of shoes for me to try. I was able to run outside in each pair to determine which one suited me best. Once I had picked a winner, Phil rang up my purchase WITHOUT any pressure to buy anything else. (How refreshing.) I did end up buying a pair of socks along with the shoes, but that was on my own accord. Fleet Feet should be proud of their excellent customer care and knowledgeable staff. I also think it's pretty cool that the store is owned by the Fenty family (others may disagree, but I felt like I had a brush with a celebrity...sort of). read more

I've been to Fleet Feet at least 4 or 5 times and I've always had an excellent experience. On the last visit, I had my dog with me and they insisted I bring him inside and offered him water. They have a good supply of basic workout equipment. Running shoes, trail shoes, insoles, athletic wear, hand-warmers, yoga mats, gel packs, cold weather gear, etc. Their prices are reasonable, but a bit higher than what you would find online. However, the service and convenience are usually worth it. The salespeople are very knowledgeable, friendly, and not at all pushy. You can take your time to try out the shoes on the sidewalk. I told the salesperson about a running injury I had, and he was able to recommend some shoes that remedied the problem. They also have running groups that meet there, so if your looking for running partners, Fleet Feet is a good place to start. Bottom line: I will go there for the expertise and convenience of trying out new shoes. And if I find something good there, I'll buy it there. But if I know what I need for my workout needs, you can save a few bucks by looking online. read more

Customer service is an A+ Product knowledge is an A- (I asked a question about weights of shoes, and they pulled out a manual to get the estimate weights. The weights of shoes listed in the manual are based off of a "standard" size (like size 7 for women), so you have to add a little (not sure how much) or subtract a little if you have a different shoe size.) I got some great advice about the pros and cons of shoes for race day and for training. It would be great if they had a frequent buyer program! read more

Look I'm sure they do a fine job of fitting folks. My experience was anything but. And I am probably more aggravated because it took two trips from Noma/Union Station to Adams Morgan (without a car) to get the right shoe. I think they don't like showing you sizes or the box so they can concentrate on fit. I came in because they had the Brooks Dyad in stock. So after an hour where the 81/2 was too big in the heel we tried on others and swapped laces I took it home. And wore it to walk out of it. Liked at the box to see he sold me a wide! An hour saying it felt too big! I Called to find out they had a regular width and he didn't think to offer it. So second trip from my hood to there to try on the show I had tried in Seattle and it fit great. So they maybe into fit but didn't work in my case. read more

Fleet Feet is a shop that knows their stuff. The staff is very friendly and seem to be runners themselves. When I was debating between a $100 and $130 pair of shoes that felt the same on my feet, they clued me in to the fact that there was no real technical difference between the models and that I might as well save some money. Over the years many people informed that the fleet feet in DC was overrated and charged too much for shoes. However, as an avid runner I didn't pay much attention to these comments- a good pair of running shoes are important and price doesn't matter too much. How much could they really over charge. I went to fleet feet since i prefer to purchase my shoes in person and this was the closest store. I didn't need to be fitted as I was fitted here several years ago and have been fitted a few other times throughout the years and am now able to know which shoe is best for me. I informed the sales staff that i didn't want to spend too much over $100 and told him the two shoes i liked. I chose the one i liked even though it seemed a little pricey but a well known running brand. While choosing out my running shoe another runner came in looking to purchase shoes and the sales guy dropped me and started helping her- granted i knew what i was doing. But still he was not done with me. Maybe i didn't suit the store's regular customer. Anyway when i went to pay - the girl at the register was rude- i didn't take it personally maybe she was tired. But overall this whole experience was not pleasing but in the end i got what i came for my running shoes. Before I went for a run with my new shoes i decided to just look at reviews online just to make sure i was comfortable with my new purchase. The reviews were good but I noticed the price was so much cheaper at fleet feet they charged $114 online $46. Now that is a HUGE difference. Not to mention the service was so terrible. So i ordered the ones online and brought the shoes back. As I returned the shoes i was berated by one of the sales men about going online to purchase the shoes and returning the ones to the store. Now i felt no shame since i did not use any of there services and they were obviously way OVER PRICED. As i didn't react and informed them how rude the store was and how i never will be back I felt a sense of pride not to have a small business such as this fool its customers. read more

What to write that no one else has... Great staff, and I love that they organize group runs twice a week. I subtracted one star for high prices. A couple of specialty running stores in Austin offered 10% off for bringing in an old pair they'd recycle - there are no such discounts (or sales, really) over here, and it'd be a nice way for FF to alleviate wallet pain while helping the environment. In addition to a great selection of shoes & apparel, they seem to have just about every size you can throw at them - at every other running store I've been to, I've always had to special order my 10.5 AA (I know.. ) shoes but they had them the first time I walked in. I've been running for a long time- I know what shoes I need, and I'm pretty confident about how I like them to fit. I stopped in to use a gift card I'd won at work, and the salesperson was less than thrilled to help me out. She seemed a bit huffy, which was fine since I new what I wanted & didn't expect to be there long anyway. What should have been quick turned into a long ordeal, since she wouldn't show me anything until I'd been "analyzed" for size, fit, & gait. Once that confirmed what I'd asked for in the first place, she suggested I go up two and a half sizes in shoe. That's insane. Every shoe I picked up, she raised her eyebrows and was kind of like "well, I GUESS you could do that...if you WANT to" and it was really annoying. They could save a lot of heartache by labeling the shoes by type and letting people browse. Instead, I had to pick up random pair to check for type and the salesperson had to make her RBF huff each time I touched something. For whatever reason, she was determined to make me wear Asics or Nikes. Not sure what was up with that. I didn't see much of a stability selection in Women's shoes and I want to have to come back, so I chose a men's pair of Sauconys. I ended up buying a pair that were on sale, which fit fine and aren't 2.5 sizes bigger than my foot. I've been running on them a month and life is fine. There's always something new to learn, but I don't like sales people pushing me to buy something I clearly feel like is wrong. Oh Rog... my new bff at Fleet Feet. I went in there telling him that I wanted to stop running so much and was looking for shoes that were cute, not necessarily the best... I know, I was being a terrible customer. But I was sick of having very expensive mediocre shoes that were ugly. I ran my share of marathons and now just wanted to run to stay in shape/for fun. Well, after very patient and calm Roger brought me about 13 pairs of shoes (all under 100 dollars), he asked if he could go up in price range. Together we found the dream shoes- oh Mizuno, I didn't even know you exsisted. I spent quite a bit more than I planned, but I am also running more than I planned and even training for a half. They are always great and let you really run outside to try out the shoes- which is a lot different from running inside, since pavement pounding is where my feet hurt the most. First time visiting Fleet Feet, and it was a great experience! For these "COVID times" - they have a little outdoor store area set up, which I really appreciated. I was able to try on shoes totally outside. All the staff were fantastic. They asked me a few questions, came back with great options, even brought me more options when I wanted to try one last pair. I loved that I was able to get in and get out, but didn't feel like I was being rushed. I will visit them again when I need replacement shoes! read more

I recently purchased a pair of running shoes at Fleet Feet. The shoes are great and the price was reasonable. My customer service experience was not so great. When I walked it, the lady working seemed put out that she had to help me. She barely said more than 10 words the entire time I was there. I tried on four different pairs of running shoes. I asked her about one specific pair that I liked and asked what model of shoe it was. She just stared at me and didn't say anything, which was obviously awkward. So, I just grabbed the box off the floor and read the model. After I took them for a brief jog, I returned to her and asked what model of New Balance I previously tried on and she again didn't say anything, so I said, "Do you know what model it was?" She then told me that they don't give customers that information because we would just leave the store and buy it online. They don't like this because they give a proper fitting service, she said. I did not receive said fitting service. I understand the desire not loose business to an online source, but treating your customers as if they all have this nefarious motivation and refusing to tell them specific information about the shoe because of this suspicion is ludicrous. By the way, I did check online for the price of the shoes I ended up buying and it was the same price that they sold for at Fleet Feet. Other reviews indicate a great customer service experience, so perhaps my experience was an outlier or the lady was having a bad day. I give it three stars due to the poor customer service I experienced, but the shoes and their selection is good. Prices--at least from what I checked--are comparable to what you will find online. read more
