Backstory: Years ago I restored my 65 Chevy SS to original condition & took it to Pete's shop for final repairs to be made (suspension, engine restoration etc...) after paying appx $10K for this work to be completed, 3 days prior to my scheduled pick up I received a call that my car had been stolen, while in his care. After investing almost $60K into this project my vehicle was GONE, never to be seen again and I didn't receive as much of an apology from this man (It was later revealed that my car was taken to a radiator shop while in his possession to have the AC work completed, where it was "taken" which I was never made aware of that my vehicle would be leaving his possession at any time). After months of going back and forth with insurance I received payment for my loss but nothing in comparison to the amount actually invested in the vehicle, again Pete never offered an apology for the incident or inconvenience he caused me as a result of this. Anyone that is a classic car collector understands the value of the vehicle is rarely monetary and the pride is in watching the car come together from beginning to end is what matters more than anything and I was never able to drive my finished vehicle. After stepping away from restorations completely I decided to give it another go with my current 75 Buick convertible Le Sabre (41K original miles) which brings us to today. I had my car towed to CCU for an estimate on an engine restoration. I was originally scheduled a date in Jan, then told my date would have to be rescheduled to 3/21 which I understand with everything being behind due to Covid. I had my car towed to the shop where I was quoted a price of appx. $4K/$5K for the work to be completed then the next day I received a call from the manager with a new quote of $15K/$20K, I understand prices can vary but there was a major difference in pricing here with no real explanation as to why. Once I received the new quote I requested minor changes instead (new window moldings, passenger mirror adjusting, intake manifold painted, breather/valve cover painted and the grill polished) this is work I know this shop is known for doing because it's been done for friend's of mine vehicles AND the my vehicle that came up missing. I was then told by the manager that in his personal opinion the car isn't worth it - I never asked his opinion and it wasn't his place to give it. As a result I had my car towed back home where it is currently, I personally feel the manager is a racist and didn't want to be bothered with my vehicle at all. After having my first vehicle stolen while in the possession of this shop, I trusted him with my newest collection and this is the treatment I received? Please consider looking elsewhere for custom work if you were considering this place.

When it comes to the actual work by the guys in the back, it's easy to see why the shop is full of exotics and vintage sports cars: the work is world-class! When I got my car back, I was truly speechless because it was the best paint and bodywork I had ever seen. Although they were only replacing and painting a bumper, everything was absolutely perfect. No orange peel, perfectly aligned, and correctly polished. It truly looks factory, as if nothing was ever done. The color and metallic flake match, something I am always nervous about, was also perfect. Without a doubt I will get all of my future repairs done by Custom Cars Unlimited...though hopefully I will never need to! This is the kind of place you go when you are particular and baby your car.

My car was towed to my house in less than 90 minutes for an incredible price. Before I called them I tried the only other tow company I had ever used and their phone was busy for half an hour. These guys picked up right and away and said the driver would call me for more details. I got a call in minutes. It's sucks to need a tow truck but they made a sucky situation very smooth and suck a lot less.

She tried telling me that their factory put it on my van and that it was against policy to remove or to help me remove it. I highly doubt that. I asked what other method I could use and she pretended not to know. A quick google search will tell you that if your dealer refuses to do it, you can just mail your module to UpFix and they'll do it for you. They have WAY better reviews than these dealers do too. It's really sad the dealership plays these games with their customers. They know that the speed limiter can be easily removed but they have zero intentions of helping anyone. Technically you can reprogram it yourself and cut out these morons to begin with if you really wanted to. Wouldn't recommend talking to anyone at this location, you'll get a shitty attitude and no real help.

On Thursday, 6/11/26, I stopped by Castle Hyundai in Downers Grove, Illinois in the evening. I…read morelooked at a 2017 Subaru Outback, and saw that it had a considerable sized dent on the passenger left door, the front bumper had a large crack in it at the front driver's side, and the bumper was also not properly connecting to the driver's side headlight and front left ¼ panel. I met a salesman by the name of John Pauly, and also the General Sales Manager Mike Nemeth. After negotiations (including running a Car History Report, and included running my credit), we come to an agreement that the car would be repaired (bumper and dent in door), and that if the service department didn't come back with any other issues, that the car would be sold to me for $14,400 plus fees, and that they would give me a trade in for my vehicle of $3,250 (I have the original paperwork given to me by Mike Nemeth showing the selling price and trade in price for my car. It also lists the date of this report and the sales person's name). I then took the car for a drive, and when John and I both heard some grinding noises coming from the front end of the car, both sides. I told him to have the car checked out by his service department, and to let me know what was wrong with the car. As he and Mike had agreed to, that provided they fix what was wrong with the car, I would still purchase it for the same agreed amount. On Friday, 6/12/26, John called me at around 10am, and said that they were about to give the car to the service department, and wanted to know if I was serious about the terms that we had discussed. I said yes, provided that the car checked out with service department with no other issues, and that they fix the car as we had discussed. Later in the day, John texted me back stating that the car didn't pass service inspection., and that they were going to wholesale the car to an auction. About an hour after John had texted me, I texted him back, and asked what exactly they had found wrong with the car. He texted back stating that they didn't tell him what was wrong, but that it was not worth keeping it due to too much being wrong with it. This in itself is hard to believe that the sales person does not know what is wrong with a car that he was supposed to sell. So I had my doubts that he was telling me the truth. On Tuesday, 6/16/26, still in the need of a car, and also wanting to see if the car was actually off of the lot, I took a drive back down to Castle Hyundai. Sitting at the front right side of the lot, with the front bumper crack having been fixed, but still not properly connected to the headlight and ¼ panel, and still having the same large dent in the right passenger door, was the car that allegedly was to be wholesaled at an auction. (see attached pictures). On Friday, 6/19/26, I called the dealership and spoke with a sales person by the name of Andy, and asked about the car. He said the exact car that I was referring to and that it was for sale. I told him that I had stopped by earlier in the week and saw that it had a dent in the car door. I asked him if there was anything else wrong with the car, and he said "No." Later this same afternoon, I went back to check the text messages from John Pauly, and he had erased the texts that he had sent to me stating that they were going to wholesale the car and send it to auction, as well as the one where he said that he was not told by the service department what was wrong with the car. I have proof that 6 texts were sent to and from John Pauly on Saturday, 6/12/26, from my cellular phone account. Currently only 2 texts are showing in our conversation, in my Messages App, from this date, and those 2 texts are only ones that I sent to John. None of John's replies are listed anymore. Apparently, he decided to delete them in order to cover his tracks and hide what he told me. And the car sales people wonder why used car sales people get such a bad rap. The disappointing thing is that John didn't do a thing when we met in person without his boss, Mike, the General Sales Manager, knowing about it. So it only makes sense that John was getting direction from Mike as to what to do. So apparently the lies and deception not only are at ground level, but also at upper management. Most people might simply let this go, but I feel that other people should be aware of the character of this business. Apparently, they will do and say anything to make a dollar ... including not honoring their word and verbal agreement. On 6/24/26, I sent an email to their corporate office to their district manager (initials AD). As of today's date (6/30/26), no response has been received. The silence speaks volumes.

I wanted him to extend exhaust hangers on a muffler and slightly bend a muffler pipe by maybe 5 degrees. he said he wanted to mount the new muffler to the car to get the right fitment. I specifically told him I wanted to be able to switch my mufflers out so DO NOT weld the muffler in place. I come back 1.5hrs later and he hasn't extended the exhaust hanger, hasnt bent the muffler pipe and has welded the muffler in place. They didn't do the two modifications I wanted, and they did the one think I specifically told them no to do. They also disconnected the chassis brace that connects the frame to the subframe because they way they welded it now rattles on the brace (this is a safety issue). previously I was able to adjust this so it did t rattle, but because they welded it, it's no longer adjustable. Now I'm worse off than when I started before dealing with Eddie. I spoke with Eddie explaining how he did none of what I wanted and specifically did what I didn't want him to do. I asked for my money back and Eddie wasnt having none of that. This was 100% a rip off where Eddie cut corners, and did what he thought was easiest and fastest rather than what I told him and paid him to do. This is not an honest auto repair business and I would not trust them to work on my car at all.
