I brought my car in for an inspection, and it was driving fine. I had a small head gasket leak, but after paying for the inspection, I went to pick up my car and they had somehow blocked the coolant from entering the engine, costing my engine to fail. I had to get my car towed to a different shop to get it fixed. My car was leaking coolant everywhere, which has never happened before taking it to this shop. This mechanic shop is a scam. They have ruined many cars and ripped off a lot of people. I am filing a complaint with the BBB, and I urge everyone to filter out the fake reviews and read the 1-star reviews. If you need your car repaired, please avoid this mechanic shop at all costs. There are many honest and reputable mechanics out there. Do your research and read reviews before you choose a mechanic. read more

I've been going to Central Service & Repair for over a decade, and I always feel confident taking my car here. Honestly, it's such a relief going to a mechanic that I can trust! They don't talk down to me, and whenever something is wrong with my car, they take the time to explain the issue to me, even if I have a billion questions. I mean, a few years ago, Mike advised me that it was time to buy a new car, even though it would mean less business for them without my twelve year old car. I had a run in with this company over summer. The situation I was in gave me a short time span for me to resolve the issue. When I went to Central Service & Repair, they told me they would be able to assess the situation quickly and begin to try and resolve the issue within my short time frame. Within a day to work on the problem, they could not fix it. Instead they left me with a disaster work mess. They bent parts, left parts unattached, and never finished the job. However, I was aware of the short time restriction of the situation. This is what I wasn't upset with. After 1 full day off assessing and attempting to fix the situation, but could not resolve the problem, they gave me nearly a $1900.00 bill. This is completely unacceptable and Central Service & Repair took advantage of our company because they saw "we had money" and ripped us off. They charged us $1,347.30 in labor charges alone. I was able to take the unfinished work to another mechanic place which was able to fix the problem and continue to fix other problems I had with the vehicle. The company who fixed the problems charged me half the price and was able to fix many more problems and give me quality customer service that Central Service wasn't able to provide. Side-note: because of my situation, the vehicle left me stranded without a ride back to my hotel. They would not provided me with a ride to and from my hotel. Had an issue with a noise underneath my car. Without an appointment I brought it over at 7am when they opened. The owner Nick met me as he heard the door open. I described my problem to him. He said they would take a look at it and get back to me as soon as they could. I was shocked that they could fit me in and so quickly. I had been googling my issues and expected a repair of $2k or more. Nick called me by 9am with the great news that they were able to fix everything for $133. I was beside myself, yet another reason I will continue to visit this shop every single time I have any issues. I am 100% confident that the dealer would have charged me at a minimum $1000 to do the same fix. Thanks again Nick, hopefully see you only for my regularly scheduled oil changes! Also after my last visit I was advised to do my own air and cabin filter changes, I ordered them on amazon, watched a youtube video, then for 1/4 of the price and 15 minutes of my time had 2 brand new filters and a new set of wipers to boot. read more

My family and I have been coming here for a long time. Nick, Mike, and their staff provide great customer service. Mike takes time to explain things to me thoroughly and goes above and beyond. Nick and Mike have both handed me their business cards on separate occasions and said if I have a problem taking my car elsewhere (body shop, dealership for recalls/warranty issues), they will talk to the business for me. This is a repair shop that sweet talks you and then screws you! I took my vehicle in and had more problems then before. They will tell you to bring it back and will find a new "different " issue that of course cost you more money This will repeat a few more times and your "$1500" original quote will end up cost you thousands more....SCAM. After I got wise and on the 4th issue and of course being told to "bring it back" by Mike....I took it to another shop and it turned out Central Service put the wrong size belt on. The OTHER shop only charged me for the belt and I'm sure Central Service would of charged hundreds. STAY AWAY.....check the filtered Yelp review and others like Google. All you ladies know what Im talking about - you come in for an oil change and end up with a 3 page list of "urgent" repairs needed for your car... and somehow the most "urgent" of them always end up being the most expensive ones on the list... Not bad.. but don't expect to be in and out on your lunch break. I went in for what I thought was a quick oil change (with appointment) and it ended up taking over an hour to complete. They were very friendly, and I appreciated the time they took to explain possible issues, but they should really find out if you just want an oil change or not, given their widespread-use of coupons. The place reminds me of a local "mom and pop" joint you would find down south. After the keys were dropped off in front and the vehicle was ready, it took 20+ minutes for the woman working in front to complete the "work" she had to do in order for me to pay and leave. Picked up a coupon from Groupon that included free oil changes. I went in expecting to be met with a cold shoulder and a hurry-up-and-get-this-guy-out-of-here feeling. I was wrong. I came in and was greeted right away by the owner himself. While I was waiting on my car to receive an oil change the owner sat with my girlfriend and I for a good 15 minutes talking to us and making sure everything was going well while explaining his business and passion for good service. The oil change was done in a timely manner and everything went smoothly. There was not even a hint of upselling and I never felt uncomfortable while there. I live in Schaumburg and this is a little bit of a drive just for an oil change but now that I have been there once I don't think I will go anywhere else for future service of my vehicle. The entire management and floor team there were very professional and friendly. It is also located in an easily accessible location and well-kept neighborhood. I am going back this Saturday for another oil change and I look forward to speaking with the owner again to let him know what I think of his business. As a new resident to Illinois I am happy to know I have found a trustworthy auto business. read more

This place is a JOKE! I brought my vehicle in 4 times(same problem/same month) and each time they charged me for something different and still did not fixed it. I don't know if they are clueless or just ripping people off. The original est (for the first time) was like $1000 and left it their for 2 weeks with no return calls from them at all.....finally when they "finished" the finale bill was $3500 and if I don't pay via credit card I wont get my car. After the 4x I took it to another shop and it turns out Central Service put a "loose" wrong size belt(that CS charged me $55 for) that was meant to slip off (said the other shop)..SABOTAGE I'm a MAN and I can only imagine what they SCAM the LADIES...My lawyer is looking into the matter. It was rush hour at 7:45 and my truck stalled on 355 in the center. I called Central and spoke to a very helpful young lady. She arranged a tow that got to me within 20 min. From there they diagnosed my vehicle and began repairs. Between waiting for parts and the time the actual repairs took, the team at central made me comfortable, had space for me to do work on my computer and kept checking on me. From a customer service stand point they have proven to be top notch. From a pricing point, they met their estimate and it fell well within the guidelines for pricing in the auto repair industry. I might go there for general work. Oil change and stuff but I don't recommend them to inspect a Motorhomes. I bought a Motorhomes from a dealer that was close by and had Central Service do the inspection at the dealerships suggestion. After purchasing it I have found major rust on the substructure frame and the fins in the radiator rusted and were blown out by the cooling fan on my first real trip. I believe that the rusty frame could have been seen by just getting under the rv and the radiator rust could have been seen with a flashlight. Their blessing of this vehicle was a major factor in my purchase. read more

These guys are awesome!! We rented an RV, brought it home to load. It was 95 degrees out and wanted to start the generator in order to run the AC but the generator wouldn't start! We called them at 7 AM (most places don't open til 9) and the said we could bring it right in. They eliminated the easy stuff and found that some of the wires were chaffed. They fixed it and sent us on our way - and gave us their card and said to call if we had any issues on our trip. Well we made it 50 miles, stopped to fill the fuel tank, and the RV wouldn't start! We called them and they walked us through what we needed to do over the phone. We are so glad we found them!!! read more

It's like going to a doctor that is extremely brilliant AND has excellent bedside manor. Other garages seem annoyed or put out that they have to work on your car. A few passengers with mechanical expertise noticed a noise I could not hear and suggested to have the wheels looked at for possible repair of wheel bearings. After some testing the shop concluded the noise was not because of the bearings but just needed to replace the tires that were very chopped up and worn down. With new tires I finally noticed what the noise was about. A month later came back to have brakes replaced. Inspection showed that while the brakes were not worn down it was very close to the point requiring replacement but the hand brake was damaged and needed replacing. When I had to get the same car inspected at another shop I was told the car needed to have a tire rod replaced which that very same shop installed a year earlier. Central Service took some time off their busy schedule to take a look and said there was nothing worth repairing. I was lucky enough to get that issue fixed for free at that other shop since it was still under their warranty. If it wasn't I wouldn't allow them to touch that car again. I'd rather come back here to get that fixed to pass vehicle inspection. The car now runs flawlessly at 125K miles. They make suggestions and repairs that are cost effective to keep the car running in tip top shape. Overall they were very thorough and job well done. read more

today 9/10/18 i brought my car in for an interlock installation. i was informed i need my horn on the vehicle to work for them to complete the job. the manager told me it was probably a 20$ horn that may have been missing. about 2 hours later i received the bill. $253.40 for fixing the horn. nobody gave me a quote on hourly rates or an estimation on dollar amount other then the $20 horn. i also found out that they hacked my car and ended up just jumping a wire. didn't even diagnose the problem. he did not budge on price and proceeded to open the front door and tell me to leave and not come back until l had the money to pay. i took my time to think about it and came back a bit later and decided to bite the bullet and pay. when i returned i was told i can only pay cash all of the sudden. i believe at that point the manager was hiding scared in the back room. in order to not confront me. so it was 15 min before closing and i had to run down the street as fast as i could to the closest atm to get cash. the worst owner/ manager i have ever spoke too at any shop. point is don't go there trust me terrible place. read more

They are very friendly and very convenient but have a problem with communication. I received a quote directly from the Owner for a smoke diagnostic---that's all I was shopping around for. But at the time of picking up my car my $20.00 diagnostic turned out to be a $240 bill. No one called me to advise me of what was found on my diagnostic never the less to advise if I wanted the repairs done. So far soo good on the repairs BUT I am very upset that I got stuck with this bill. I was told the Owner never communicated to the staff about the quote he gave me but that they would talk to him and give me a call back. It's been more than a week and no phone call. Am I surprised? Of course not. I did my fair share of research and shopping around with very prestigious/name brand shops but decided to go with Central Service for convenience and good pricing. I canceled my appointment with Midas, which was going to cost me (estimated) half of what I paid here. I should have sticked with my gutt feeling. My co-worker (woman) was in need of a repair to her vehicle and was considering taking her Ford Taurus to Central but after I showerd her my bill she said and I quote "HELL NO".
