Have been coming for years now. One of their stylists, who sadly left, told me to grow out my hair and then get it cut by them. Best advice ever. I used to think that going to a regular barber was good for a guy but that's not true for some/many guys. Yes, it is expensive but as long as you like their cut - worth it. I cheated on my barber and came here for a haircut. Clippers, razors, hard lines, and squares were fun, but I am just ready to move on and look for something more serious for my hair. The stylists take great care in consulting, shampooing, and giving the scissor over comb haircut that fits your head and features. Tips on hair styling and hair care are also given to you throughout the experience, so pay attention. Great salon with 5-star hotel hospitality. This won't be like a typical quick haircut, so the amazing experience comes with a premium to pay. But its worth it. 10/10 would return. P.s. they know how to cut asian hair. Awful. I went as a model for their "class". More like a dom/sub abuse session than a class. The instructor curses a lot and made here student cry. My style requests were ignored & I got a hack job, largely because instructor disappears for duration of novice student cutting. Then swoops in with criticism. The main one was, "too short". Perhaps it wouldn't have been too short if you watched as they were cutting. Then when I complain as to missing my requests I was talked down to. I pointed out she may want to teach that the customer desire comes first. Reading the many reviews here, it's clear that's not their doctrine. Other reviews say it all -their way or highway. -rude and mean. -intransigent. -poor listening skills. -intimidation tactics. They also did the classic thing of telling me my hair just doesn't go that way, when I've had it that way forever and MANY other highly skilled salon teachers have agreed. She thoroughly explained everything little thing she did and gave me step-by-step instructions on how to maintain my new look. I've been going here consistently for about a year now, that is until I had to cheat on them and get a quick haircut before a trip. Mistake. I'd grown so accustomed to how much time and care Fleischman puts into my cut that I could tell instantly this other place was doing me wrong. I just went back to asking for an adjustment to get it back the way I like, which they do every time, and left feeling great. They specialize in men's hair and take the time to detail each cut to the individual, and it shows. The salon is cool and cozy and all the women are lovely. Found this place after reading a few reviews and seeing they had 3 locations which is tough in NYC. When traveling, it's always a variable, but much easier when you find a high end salon. EJ was great - nice, personable, and most importantly good at understanding hair! Was able to drink a beer, relax, and leave with a nice haircut! Great care is taken to talk to you about what they are doing without pushing you for anything. It's a little pricey depending on who is cutting your hair but well worth it. I feel terrible leaving a one star review because Janney gave me the best experience I ever had with a hair cut a month ago. As a matter of fact she is the only reason there is a star here. I called ahead of my appointment today because I got stuck behind an accident on my way in and I knew I was going to be late. I knew ahead of time that you forfeit your money for the appointment if you miss it. I showed up 12 minutes late and was asked if I wanted to reschedule. I decided that I would be willing to pay a little more to get my hair looking right before my company picture and agreed, then I was told that I would have to pay full price to see Janney an hour and a half later. I respect that it is important to protect reservations and appointments, but I think it's patently ridiculous to charge 200 for one haircut. I asked if we could meet in the middle on price for the second appointment and was told absolutely not. Frankly I'm disappointed fleischmans couldn't demonstrate a little flexibility to help build a relationship with a new client, and I'm equally disappointed that I have to go to a lesser barber now to get my hair done. I really wish I was going to be able to continue going here, but I just can't tolerate that level of inflexibility at those prices. read more

Don't waste $90+ here. I went in to get a nice haircut in the middle of the day. Did not get the complimentary hot towel treatment. My neckline was horrendous after Yasmeen was done. I emailed them a picture of my neck line after I got home and they responded a month later offering me 50% off the next time I'm around. Then they never responded to my acceptance of their offer. I think the brand has done great work to build itself, but the operational excellence is still lacking and needs quite a bit of work. read more

Its a cool vibe for sure and I love the concept about cutting your hair to be more natural rather than fighting it for style. That being said, I tried it twice and it was "their way or the highway". Paying $75, I can't believe how many times I was told "no" when I wanted something done. I certainly would appreciate guidance and suggestions as to what they would think it best, but to outright tell me "i don't do that" is crazy at that price. When I moved to midtown 6 months ago I stumbled across this gem. All the girls are super friendly, treat you very well from the very beginning. Offer drinks, scotch, beer, snacks, etc. I'm not there for an alcoholic beverage however, I'm there to see my girl Jenessa. She takes pride in what she does and offers her opinion in the process. I think as a hair professional, insight into different options is important. It's rare these days you get that. I tell her what I want and she offers her opinion or other options. She always does a good job and is why I haven't cheated on her thus far. Except once when I was in Chicago and I regretted it, so from here on out, she's the one! Soooo, I had my hair cut by Anastasia (I believe she's new but not sure). She has a perfect blend of technical and creativity. When she did my hair, which was about 5 inches on top, she reduced to a beautiful, manageable style. I can easily just push my hair back and have a decent look anytime of the day. I felt so fresh walking out of the salon. I highly recommend this place. It was probably the best haircut of my life. Maybe I had a better one when I was a child but they don't really matter when you're a kid, right? I used to get a haircut and then re-cut my own hair to make my mom mad so comparing this haircut to one I got as a child is kind of pointless....anyways. Jenessa cut my hair. She was cool and nice and professional and all that good stuff. I forgot to tip the person who washed my hair and I feel bad about it now, but aside from that, I still feel very good about the whole experience. Jenessa asked me what I wanted, then transformed my words into a cool hair cut. Witchcraft? Perhaps. But if this is what modern witchcraft looks like, I'm in. Then she gave me some advice on maintenance like don't crazily dry my hair with a towel (which I still do....sorry) and apply products to dry hair. A friend referred me to Erica Fleischman's last year, and I'm 6 months in now.... LOVE IT! The place is cozy, relaxed, and very accommodating. Sarah is my stylist and she completely fixed my cut (I had no idea how messed up it was!). Here are my pros/cons: ---Pros: free beer/soda/liquor/water, free snacks, atmosphere (warm, dark-colored wood accents, makes me feel like I'm not in NYC), friendly staff, great haircut, short head massage while getting hair washed, prompt service ---Cons: price, small waiting area, cash-only tips Obviously, I have many more pros than cons, but I'll keep going back because I love it so much. Even if you're not sure about making an appointment, at least go check it out and see for yourself. They are completely no-pressure and they'll let you look around and see if the place is for you. My first time was a walk-around and, "hey, this place is great!" Then I came back a week later for my first haircut and have been happy going back ever since. Sarah takes time to ask me about what I want each time and will work with me as much as necessary to get me the look I want; I've rarely experienced the depth of insight anywhere else.
