I also stopped by the shop and asked to talk to him (he was not there). He has offered to fire the person and/or compensate me with $60 + a free haircut if I change the review (photos attached). Giving me a bald spot for fun is way too unprofessional for me to consider changing the review. I have offered to point out the guy to Arthur, but I am not asking for the guy to be fired. One of these guys gave me a bald spot because he thought it was funny. He thought I didn't notice and gave me a fist bump with a slight smirk on his face after the haircut. After the haircut my girlfriend told me I was balding, and I instantly realized what happened. The hair grew back to normal in a few weeks. At least one of the guys working here is an unprofessional jerk, so l'd recommend going somewhere else.

I'm glad I booked an appointment and visited Tina Nikolle's Salon. Tina was phenomenal. She gave me an awesome haircut and also trimmed my beard so that I can attend the wedding reception with the best looks! She is very good at what she does and more importantly extremely nice and kind person. Once you interact with her you know how much she loves her job and cares for her customers. One tip to add: If you are visiting for the first time, you may have trouble locating the salon. It's right next to De Janeiro. You have to find a small door on the right side (facing De Janeiro) and then take the elevator to 17th Floor. Tina's Salon is in Suite 1702.

But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

One jackass who charges $100 for a haircut talked about how a real barber (such as himself of course) only does 4 haircuts an hour. Really 4 haircuts an hour? That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts).They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.

This spot is the bee-knees, the cats pajamas. Arthur is the man. I was new to the hood so I was looking for a spot to get cleaned up. You see i have been a "hat" guy for the last 15 years. Sounds crazy I know I just hated my hairline. My wife was breaking my balls about my neurosis, so I knew I had to find a spot and fork over some coin to get a haircut I would love. I went to some of these high end spots and paid grip, like 60 bucks after tip. The haircut was good but not like I could have bought an eighth instead good. So I randomly walked in and got Arthur the first time. He looked at my hair and knew exactly what to do. He is a nice easy going dude and is like Rembrandt with the shears. He takes his time and always leaves you looking fresh to death. He gave me what he dubbed the "2013" . For the first time In 15 years I go everywhere without a hat. That's amazing! Other barbers there have cut my hair when Arthur is off and they also do a great job. One of the best parts is the cut is only 15 bucks! AND for only like 5 more bucks the super beautiful Russian woman will wash your hair and make you feel like a King .$5. Royalty. Do it. I also love that the ambiance is like a clubhouse for dudes. With UFC on the TVs and Playboys in the mag rack I felt as though me and my Y chromosome had found our new home. Bottom line is if you are a guy in midtown this should be where you get your hair cut. read more

I am new to the city and was looking for a solid place to get a haircut. NYC is known for its barbershops, so I was eager to find somewhere that had great reviews. As other Yelp reviewers have said, this place is pretty awesome! I came in after work around 6pm on a Wednesday and there was a five person line (with pretty cramped quarters upfront, so be prepared to stand if the four chairs are full), but the guys work quick and I was able to sit down for my cut after less than 10 mins. I had Steve cut my hair, and he did a great job, cutting it almost exactly the way I wanted it, even pausing to make sure I wanted a certain length taken off the top. He also asked who cut my hair last, as he told me they cut too short along the crown of my head, which lets me know he was really paying attention! Regarding the atmosphere, there's boxing on TV if you're into that, and the waiting chairs were comfy enough. Good luck hanging your coat, though, as there is nowhere to put it. I had to wear my suit jacket still in the chair (not ideal), but the cut was good enough for me to be fine with it. I recommend going without a jacket if you're able. I also used a Yelp deal for $18, and was able to just hand him my printed confirm and walk right out. I need to make sure to tip extra next time, as Steve deserved it! I'll be going to Premium Barber Shop at 52nd from now on, and I highly recommend it. read more

I have been to numerous expensive salons and found it very hard to find someone to cut my hair the way that I want it cut. From desperation, I went to Premium Barber Shop and quickly found out it was the best thing I have ever done for my hair. At first I was a little skeptical because when I walked in, it was all men. I showed Yuri a picture of what I wanted done, and asked him if he can cut my hair like the picture and BOOM! Not only was he knowledgeable at what he was doing, he gave me one of the best haircuts that I ever had. And no, I am not his friend writing this, I am just a woman that can never find anyone good enough to cut my hair, even though I spend a bundle of money. I am finally very, very happy and in a few weeks I will return to Yuri. Excellent hair stylist!!! The barbershop was full when I walked in but since I had an appointment, my wait time was none. Very pleased since I used my lunch hour for the cut. The rest of the barbers also knew what they were doing. I knew this from the customers faces. They all left with a smile. OK so these guys are actually the best. I know you hear people say that all the time but read on and I'll explain why to you. I came in wanting to shave my huge beard completely off. While I waited in line a number of the other guys in line actively tried to talk me out of it. This was done in fun and I really appreciated the feedback as I did have some doubts about going clean. The staff were super cool and hilarious. They made my friend and I comfortable and joked about her being the reason I was wanting to go clean shaven. When it was my turn we took an informal poll of everyone in the shop and the majority agreed I should keep the beard. So instead of a clean shave I got a serious trim and I was very satisfied. They they offered to shave it off for free in a few days if I wasn't happy. But as if that wasn't enough they then didn't even charge me for the trim. I mean I was already very satisfied and they just go and give me an unrequested freebee. Who does that? Needless to say I gave the man a huge tip and will be returning for all my follicle needs. Being new to the city, I came here for a haircut during my lunch hour, with the hopes of being in and out with enough time to still grab some food, and that's exactly what I got! I read the reviews before going and with such great comments, my expectations were high, but I was not let down. I never got the name of the girl that cut my hair, but I got exactly what i asked for and a little extra. Even on my way out, she said if I was sure I didn't want the hair wash including with the cut. (which wasn't going to cost anymore) Unfortunately due to time restrains, I couldn't stick around. But clearly this place has a lot more value for its customers than most places these days. Even before my haircut was finished, I think it was Uri that came over and offered to do something a little different with my hair, and of course I was more than happy to give his suggestion a whirl. Good finish to my look Uri. Great place, great service, and the staff clearly care a lot more about the customer than just the money they are bringing in. The best part of moving back to NYC was getting my favorite barbershop back. The prices are great, the ambiance is simple and straightforward, and all of the barbers here are excellent. Honestly, they could stand to raise their prices a little. For the quality and no-nonsense business they do, I'd say their prices are bargain central. I can get a wash and a cut from Yuri for $20. It's easily a $30 experience, so I always split the difference in the tip. If you want an excellent cut (or a professional barber's shave), quick, reliable, and quality service, you should really consider going here. But don't just let my review speak to the awesomeness that is Premium Barber Shop, just look at any of the dozens of other rave reviews about this place. You'll never leave here disappointed. Pro-Tip: Spend the extra $3 for the wash. It's a full on scalp massage and the most relaxing thing you'll do for yourself during the busy workweek. As a 14yr resident of the Midtown East, with a residence only a few doors down, this place is an extension of home. As an owner, Uri has not only built a successful business but also a neighborhood landmark, and within that, he has created a family amongst his staff. While it's quite fun to be in the shop, I also genuinely enjoy running into the employees on the street, always taking time to say hello. There is a reason why people are willing to wait during busy hours. They know how efficient it is run, they know they will be taken care of and they know the staff is beyond friendly. Over the years, staff has come and gone, but with staples like himself, Lana and Eddie, Uri has been consistently able to deliver a high quality service. Not to mention, seeing his son now work in the shop provides comfort that this family owned business will thrive for years and years to come. Ultimately, this place is properly named because a *premium* service is exactly what they deliver, and I highly recommend it. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Uri for the last 4 years and get a great hair cut every time...wouldn't think of getting a hair cut anywhere else and recommend Premium Barber Shop without hesitation to all my friends. Side bar story...the 52nd St & 2nd Ave location was convenient for me when I worked midtown East. Then my office moved downtown and I live downtown West side, so heading midtown East for a hair cut every three weeks became a bit tedious. Like an idiot, I tried a different, more convenient barber shop downtown and got a horrible cut. Long story, short...after that brief lapse in judgement, I'm back at Premium Barber Shop every three weeks and have gone through many, many frequent patron cards -- get 9 hair cuts and the 10th is free! Go to Premium and you won't be sorry. Don't sweat it if there's a wait, the line moves quickly -- even when the place has been packed, I've never waited more than 15 minutes. read more

I was in Manhattan a couple weeks ago and badly needed a haircut before a wedding that I was set to attend. I went into Premium and caught Uri just as he was about to leave for lunch. He was glad I was there -- it was obvious that he wanted to tame my overgrown hair. He did what I asked, which was to trim my hair without taking to much off. Several times, he told me that he could trim off some more and "really have [me] looking sharp". It was funny, and he wasn't being overbearing at all (it was just clear that my penchant for longer hair was paining him). After he finished my cut, we chatted for a bit, and I found him to be a really great guy. He told me about the old days and made me laugh. My hair has grown out quite nicely, so overall, I'm very happy with the cut. I'll try to go back and see him again next time I'm in Manhattan!!! read more

Let me start off by saying that I have never reviewed any business before on yelp, but this barber shop stands out and was worth sharing with the community. I know it can be very difficult to find the perfect barber/stylist, but when you find the perfect one, you never let go. When I first moved here, I associated quality with price and thought the best haircuts would set me back 50-100 dollars.. It wasn't until I walked into the Premium Barber shop that I realized perfection can be reached for less than 20 dollars, and I have been going there ever since. I have now been going there for 8 years, and my barber (technically stylist) Lana, pays as much attention/care today as she did the first day I walked in. Best Haircut, Nicest Staff, and Nicest Place in Area and Best Pricing! If you are a male looking for a haircut, this is the place to go. The salon itself is really nice, but not so excessive as to make you uncomfortable. The barbers are great guys, laid back, and give great haircuts, and you don't even need an appointment. And they are also the only hair salon which is open on both a Sunday and a Monday! Perhaps best of all, especially during these economic times, is the price - they have the lowest prices around and the best value for money. I have very weird hair that grows in different directions so it's generally a task for any barber to cut my hair. I decided as is the case to just get a fade. I am currently on vacation and was badly in need of a cut so after some googling I came across Premium Barbershop and it's rave reviews. So in I walked today and was greeted with a roomful of smiles and willingness to assist. Aguilia (a petite bombshell) asked what I would like done. Generally I would tell my barber "just nice up and make me look good." After some back and forth she had a picture of what I wanted and went right to work. I am very satisfied with her work and the professionalism of the entire staff, I even got a discount! For the location and service I actually expected to pay more! Would recommend to anyone in NY looking for a decent haircut! read more

Premium barbershop is a real city man's barbershop. Great haircuts, fast service, hot towels, pictures of famous athletes all over the walls and you can always count on catching the latest UFC fight or boxing match that you may have missed. Everyone is super cool and friendly. They handed out party favors around Christmas time. Always take requests (as long they're reasonable) for the TV. Haircuts are fast but still professional and very reasonably priced ($20 including tip) and the hair wash is really quite a titillating experience. If you're not trying to pay $80 for haicut (which you really shouldn't be doing unless you have Tom Brady-esque locks), then this is the perfect place to go. Highly recommended from someone who gets very nervous about trying new barbers. read more

Open early No nonsense service Reasonably priced Masters of the fade If you've been looking for your end-all, be-all midtown barbershop to visit in between conference calls and data dumps - this is your place. If you need a barber that keeps it real when Management meetings are killing you - this is your place. I recently moved to New York from Atlanta. Among the other things non New Yorkers scared me about before my move, getting a great haircut at a good price was one. And for a guy, I gave tricky hair, where if you cut it wrong, it stands at all the wrong places. In comes this awesome place, and the man Sam! Sam quickly understood the look I wanted, understood the problem my hair is inflicted with, and went to work. After about 20 odd minutes, what came about, was the best haircut I've ever had. Period. Sam is absolutely fantastic. I've gone to a of snotty over priced places to try to get the right haircut, and all along all I needed was this simple, but fantastic old school barber shop. I'm from Europe and I'm kinda used to having access to amazing barbers for a fraction of NYC prices. However, finding a good barber in NYC for less than 50$ was almost impossible. And I haven't just found a good barber, I found AMAZING hair salon that I can't recommend enough. I went there twice already. I was blown away by the service the first time. I got my hair cut by a guy called Marco I think he was excellent. Next time I wanted to get the same guy to cut my hair but he was sick so an older guy did my hair, I forgot his name, but it was also equally good and excellent! I can't recommend this place enough. People have been complementing my hair since then. I'm so glad a found a good place to get my haircut for when I'm in NYC. read more

I'm a 30 yo woman with a pixie cut and my husband started going here and loves this place. I tagged along and Yuri gave me a cut that vastly improved my existing look. Despite this being a barber shop, he was skilled at knowing the difference between a men's short cut and a feminine short cut and talked to me about the differences. They are super fast without being in a hurry, have a constant flow of walk-ins, maintain great attitudes and good conversation (please get them talking about the "greatest movie of all time, Titanic"), and provide expert service. This is it! No need to look any further. I've trusted my haircut to Premium for years. After moving to the city and trying a few average places, I finally discovered Premium. In short, old fashion barbershop service, a modern atmosphere, happy customers, great cuts and sports on the big screens. If only they had a bar...I'd stay all day long. :) The owner & staff are very good about getting to know their customers. They keep the waits short, experience topnotch, and price very low. There's a strong sense of pride in the cuts they give; I'd have it no other way. Anyone who knows me knows I don't take chances with my haircut. The environment is really nice and comfy. As soon as you come in you are greeted. My stylist is Sang Hee (nona). When she cuts my hair it feels like she is giving it her all. She is dedicated and make sures at the end of the cut you will feel great! My brother also is a client of hers and she knows me and him just like that. The reason why I am giving four stars instead of five is because for some reason my brother gets the haircut that is "exactly" what I want but when several times I asked her to cut like his it ends up a bit different. Well worth the price! I have to admit that even with all the good reviews on here I was skeptical as it seemed a bit pricey. After all was said and done, I must admit that it is worth every penny. The Staff was incredibly friendly, and the service second to none. I have had many bad experiences with past hair stylists not listening to me and doing whatever they wanted... NOT HERE. I felt so good and was so pleased with the service I immediately set up my next appointment. To all you "manly men" don't be afraid of being a little soft and pampered, you'll feel great after. The haircuts are fine, but the owner will not shut up about his fancy car or his watch collection…read more He is also an avid Trump supporter, and his wife has a well known MAGA instagram account in which she denounces immigrants (even though she is from Russia), and spouts generally cruel and unverified poison about marginalized groups. When I go to get my haircut, I don't want to hear about politics, and I don't want to hear about how many watches the owner can buy himself with my money. Regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, It's extremely unprofessional, and it made me very tense. I've gone back several times and received haircuts from several barbers/stylists/hairdressers, and I always leave feeling mildly assaulted. Professionalism is basically the only thing I care about in these types of businesses, and if they can't provide a safe and relaxing atmosphere, then I don't want to sit in their chair for an hour while they handle sharp objects around my head. That being said, I also find that they do not know how to cut my hair type, and when I tell them what has worked for me at other barbers, they ignore it saying "if I take too much off there then it won't do what you want." And then I have to explain to them that it will do exactly what I want since it has been proven in the past to behave the way I'm telling them it will if they make the adjustments I'm describing. They still ignore it, and then I go home and shower and my hair immediately behaves in the way I don't want. I end up having to trim it myself. 0/10 do not recommend. UPDATE May 14, 2026: The owner has responded to my initial review in a way which exactly proves my point. In my review, I mentioned that I had a bad experience at this establishment and did not feel safe due to the offensive conversation I overheard from the owner himself with his own clients as well as some other barbers. His response is to straight up gaslight me and say that this never happened, instead of apologizing for my bad experience and explaining how it will not happen again. Classic.

When the unoccupied barber finally acknowledges me, I barely get to say hello before he turns his back on me and walks away. Starting to feel not so great about this place. He turns around since I haven't walked away yet. I ask him how much for a skin fade. He thinks, then says $18. The occupied barber then also replies, yea $18. I know I only have $15 on me. I say thank you and start to walk out. It's all good, I'll get a cut tomorrow. The occupied barber stops me to let me know that if I want it cheaper I can have it for $6 across the street, at the barber school. I can't tell you if they give the world's best cut or the world's worst cut. I can tell you that to call them rude is just about the nicest thing I can say about them. Go anywhere else.
