My bf and I decided to come here because he needed to replace some of his work clothes. I was a bit nervous shopping here because I read so many negative reviews and I didn't know what to expect. Men's Pantagonia Style Trucker Jackets etc. There's a nice array of colors and sizes. Stanley Thermoses. Women's Free People Clothing. They sell Professional Uniforms, Girl and Boy Scout Uniforms, Hospital Scrubs,There's entire section of Men's Work Boots and Cowboy Boots. Women's Uggs and Boots and Slippers. They even have a section of Knives and Gun Holsters. If clothes are not your thing, there are entire sections of Mattresses, and Bedroom Sets. Two floors of Furniture of all kinds like Sectionals, Sofas, Recliners, Tables, and Side Tables, Hard Wood Flooring, Carpets, and an entire section of Kitchen Appliances. This is not the best place to come if you're in a wheelchair. The isles are not very wide. It can be overwhelming at times.We found everything we needed and the prices were fair. Clothes, bedding, furniture, and flooring are the main points of this warehouse type store. Other than the clothes, I would assume that the employees work on a commission basis in their respective departments. One gets that anticipatory feeling if you're in, for example, the furniture department, that a salesperson is going to jump on you voraciously. The clothing department, the safe zone, is quite eclectic, carrying a lot of brand names. Their prices are commensurate with the area. I would give it 3 1/2 stars, not 4 due to the closeness of the aisles in the clothing department. I literally ran into two people going in different aisles. I recently stopped at the Flemington Department Store with a friend who wanted to look at some Uggs shoes. The store had a nice variety of shoes, and there was a great rack with some excellent deals. Matt was the gentleman who helped my friend look at Uggs. Matt was delightful! He was there alone, and there were a number of customers, but Matt was easily able to help everyone without becoming frustrated. He provided useful input about the shoes we were looking at, and was consistently professional and personable. We are both fans of Flemington Department Store because of the variety of products and great prices. Family owned and operated, I was told this place has stood the test of time. From the outside it looks like a warehouse building but inside boy was I wrong. It was HUGE! As big as a Costco warehouse. I have purchased 2 high end mattresses from Flemington dept store. Pricing them at other outlet type stores , they were lower in price , exact same mattresses and delivered quickly with expert set up. Another time I purchased high end carpeting for my 2 sets of stairs to avoid injuries. Couldn't be happier. The installation was excellent and 2 yrs down the line looks new. I think it is and always be a great place to shop. The sales people are helpful. They do not get a commission. They do not jump on you which is good. You get a chance to look around. Every time I go it's always A-PLUS. I whole Resnick Family do a great job managing the place with the help of Greg Mischke. The pricing is always competitive. Plus if you live in the Hunterdon area SHOP LOCAL!!! I check 1 or 2 prices. I make sure it's apples for apples and not apples for oranges. Even if they were a bit higher. You could walk in if you had a problem with the product and I know for a fact you will get the same sales person to assist you to fix it. FDS is primarily a mid and upper range furniture/home furnishings/mattress center that rents some extra floor space to retailers of outdoor clothing, camping/boy scout gear and paraphernalia. They also sport a high end appliance retailer (Rogers) on site that carries the best quality -- like Wolf, Fisher-Paykel and pricey European manufacturers, in addition to more conventional makers like Thermador, Sub Zero and Kitchen Aid. A pretty eclectic mix --- but the furniture quality in store (e.g. Ekornes, C.R. Laine) is what brought us here. They have quite a selection at very competitive pricing. Running a 50% off sale for the balance of this month. We looked around plenty for a new sectional sofa and settled on a C.R. Laine custom -- with the fabric we wanted -- and the price was by far the best we could find anywhere else -- be it at a brick and mortar location or online direct from manufacturers reps down south. The sales staff is knowledgeable, and in some cases they are professional decorators with decades of experience (thank you Roberta) whose eye for aesthetics really helps in making choices. Definitely worth a visit here of you are looking for slightly more upscale American or European made furniture -- with lots to see -- and you can "kick the tires" on plenty of stock. Stuff here is expensive! Furniture, clothes, everything. I thought it was a discount store but I guess not the case. They do have a large assortment of stuff but I found it to be a bit pricey. I even did some price comparison on line (e.g. Prana sweater they sold for $30.00 more than Prana.com). Some of the workers were nice and helpful - others, not so much (a guy working in furniture area). I probably won't go back as when I went to check out, the sales associate at the register looked at me like I didn't have a right to buy anything out of the store. She didn't greet me as I heard her greeting other customers and she wished others a "Merry Christmas", but only asked if I wanted a bag (I didn't hear her ask others this question) and then she tossed the item I purchased in the bag, pushed the bag in my direction and folded her arms. Didn't say thank you, didn't say anything. I actually wished her a Merry Christmas and laughed as I left (nervous laughter as I was in a bit of disbelief of what I had just experienced). Perhaps the worst shopping experience ever. Walking around the store, I was overwhelmed. There is so much junk in a small place that you can't find anything. Claustrophobic! The clothing is all over the place and not put together. I was looking for a full zip NF sweatshirt and there were so many places it could be and didn't find it. Besides that, I looked at area rugs which were in several different places. I walked around the store for over 10 minutes with no one offering to help me. I love this place the have the biggest variety of Northface and other name brand outdoors clothes. Everyone was nice as it seems they have a more mature staff. Not a bunch of inexperienced kids working there. I love Northface coats but hate ordering them online. I like to try my coats on. I bought 2 coats and spent over $300 but they are well worth it. I've shopped for years whether clothing to furniture for bedroom, living, room or floor carpeting has always been good service. Selection is excellent and quality name brands are available. Clothing has great selection of top name goods. Service has always been great. Recently, the shipper for the store due to post covid employment issues caused delays that we all are suffering from today. The FDS did everything to get the rug and when it came in, Marty the owner personally dropped it by in the evening, so I didn't have to wait another day. That is going the extra mile which is why I go back in a day and age pride in ownership is quickly disappearing. Just another reason I've always been a fan and so has my family and friends of FDS. I had a less than favorable experience here when picking up an item that I had ordered in store. Sales staff was friendly and helpful. My item was ordered and I went about my business. A week or so later the item arrived and upon my going to pick it up and pay I encounter a "less than enthusiastic cashier who was happy to inform me of a discrepancy regarding the quoted price and the actual price of my item. I spoke with the owner who didn't seem too interested in resolving the issue and instead resorted to insults... it's ok, I'm a public servant with a voice on YELP. In the end the store wouldn't honor the quoted price of said item and my error was not insisting on either paying at the time of placing the order or getting the price in writing... I wouldn't be able to recommend this store in good conscience to a friend or family member. read more

I bought two rugs one week before Christmas. slightly larger than a 5 by 7. normally the salesman will not leave you alone . I had the opposite I could not get any assistance. After ordering I thought it would be best to order the non-stick pads. This salesman was VERY annoyed. He said he would have to reorder the entire order and perhaps I should just try it without the pads. I was told freight drops them off I would pay additional charges for them literally to drop them in my doorway. I said ok I paid an additional charge. well it's been almost two months the rugs are still not in. I called and complained. The owner called very sarcastic said I hate people who try to get something for nothing ! I ordered my mattress and box-spring and there was no delivery charge, therefore I expected the same thing. I was excited to use this local business for carpet. We had been customers for years. I finally decided to splurge on high end carpet for my bedroom. Big mistake purchasing it here. the salesman was clueless, measured and misquoted us, my husband had to correct him or we would have been over charged for several hundred yards of carpeting. Next I asked for upgraded padding, the clueless salesman said we don't do that in bedroom. The padding they used is so cheap and poor our dog won't sleep on the floor in there anymore, the warranty on the carpet is no good, and it feels like you are walking on plywood. read more

I was so impressed with my experience in this store. I've been trying to find and buy a really warm coat and purchased a North Face from the NF website. Even with help from North Face customer service, the size was wrong. Decided to take the drive to Flemington Department store because they carry a good stock of these coats and the selection is really impressive. I ended up talking to the coat buyer and he helped me find the perfect coat in the perfect size and educated me a bit on what exactly to look for. Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever seen a small business make. I am a small business owner myself in Edison New Jersey and couldn't even imagine my sales crew treating a customer the way I was treated at the counter at Flemington department store. I went to return a pair of brand new pants with all the tags on it in their bag with the receipt seven days after it was Because they didn't fit properly. They refused to except the return because the lady at the counter said there's a mark on it. The item was never worn ,all the original tags are on it ,It is exactly the way it was picked up from the store. She asked for another person to look at it on her staff and they agreed no return no store credit sorry nothing we can do. They didn't even care that the line of people saw that occurred most were shaking your head in disbelief. A perfect example of how not to treat a customer. Will be posting pictures shortly of the mark on the pants that you need a magnifying glass to see, unreal. Very disappointed, I wouldn't give this place a dollar of my hard earned money if it was the last place to shop in New Jersey. Wife has been asking for a coffee table for the longest time and we finally saw one here that we liked. Pricing was great, and even though we were just picking it up and loading it into our SUV, they insisted on throwing on some plastic since it was raining outside and helped us load it into the car. Will look into here again when I need more furniture. Update July 20: Went back this past weekend to also look at mattresses and was very happy to see their prices compared to the Raymour Flanigans and the PC Richards. For the same mattress, it was $2500 at both RF and PC, and $2250 at FDS. Ended up purchasing and they delivered it yesterday. read more

This is the worst store in the history of the universe. When I was a kid, and I am old, there used to be stores where all kinds of merchandise was squeezed into small spaces. Some were called JOHN'S BARGAIN STORE and other names so as to suggest that the store was a no frills place with overstock or discounted items. This Flemington place tries to duplicate that bargain store look - but they forgot one thing. THERE ARE NO BARGAINS and the place is so dimly lit, so tightly packed, that you're luck to find your way around without getting trampled or lost. If you go down an aisle of jackets, the opposite side of the aisle is brushing against your face. I could not believe the prices on the clothes for which I needed a keychain light and magnifier to see. I could go to any store and pay less. Then, I ventured over to the furniture "department" and even the junkiest accent chairs were $800. I saw some coffee tables and assumed they were 2 or 3 hundred - wrong! They were $900 - pure junk. These are items that would be $300 or less in Home Goods - I was shocked and my poor grandson drove so far for me to give this place a once-over. As for the the checkout (I bought children's gloves) anything - is like an old neighborhood store from the 1960s. The line is long and winds into aisle where it blocks shoppers, and worse yet, the registers are in line with the line. With that set up, there is no way to tell if a register is open and these cashiers do not bother to say "NEXT!" because they're so uninterested. This place is living in a time warp. Do not waste your time. It's nothing like you think from the TV ads. It's a total waste of time. Please, listen to me, save your time because you certainly are NOT going to save any money. Summary - PRICES are very high - almost a joke. The store spends money on TV ads but not on lightbulbs or space for you to walk. A special warning to old people like me. You could fall down in that store. If you want to try it for yourself, bring a flashlight, a lot of cash, and a magnifying glass. read more

He explained the different features on the furniture, offered suggestions and gave me a ton of info to help me make decisions. This store is wonderful!!! It has everything you need for moving into our first house! It's essentially a one stop shop with furniture, appliances, and soo much more. My husband and I were looking for master bedroom furniture. The store associate named Debbie Adams was very sweet and kind and helped us with all our questions. Some of the rudest staff I've ever encountered. Every time i go in there i hear the cashiers always saying off colored things. I was in there yesterday and the cashiers were complaining about customers very loudly and very audible. There were a lot of people around too it's like they were just talking amongst themselves. I heard the convo very clearly. How unprofessional and rude? I had over 200 dollars in merch in my hands and decided to put it back and shop elsewhere. This isn't the first time this has happened either. They are also super unhelpful and very short with answering questions. 100% not worth your time for the discounts.
