I used to live above Flight and found it to be the perfect place for an evening glass of wine. Their menu includes options for a flight (a group of 3 wines), as well as options for a single glass. They often have specials with new things to try.The staff here are friendly and knowledgable about wine.They also have great cheeseboards. I have been dying to try Flight for some time now. I love the concept; encouraging the sampling of different wines with a "flight". And I love that Rochester has two fully dedicated wine bars. Unfortunately I can't give Flight more than three stars. 8 of us showed up in the early evening on a recent snowy Saturday. We had actually called ahead to see if they could accommodate us, while they could when we showed up, I'm not sure they would have said no if they were packed. We grabbed a table and were promptly waited on. The table we sat at was close to the door, and it being a winter night, we got a cold breeze every time someone entered or left... not a good design. The decor was lacking too, while everything was "new" it was highly impersonal (any Starbucks has more personality!). It really looked like someone had just extended the "coffee station" of a regular restaurant to create the bar area. I did not get a good look at the "bar" itself which is supposed to be unique in its own right. The wall of wines actually looks much better in the pictures on website than in the flesh. And to round out this rant on the decor/design, the layout is extremely awkward and there was only one multi-sex bathroom (a long long wait when the place is bumpin') right next to a kitchen that should have been hidden from view (at the very least!). Most in my party had flights, a few had singular glasses of wine. I have no complaints about the wine itself (you get what you pay for) and I thought the prices were reasonable. While the waitress was prompt, she seemed more a cocktail waitress than one who has any knowledge beyond the menu (per her responses to queries we made)... please note this is not intended to be disparaging towards her. Finally, and this is unforgivable, the entire menu does not include the YEAR of any of the wines! How can a wine bar forget one of the most important features of wine!! The owner needs to tear up all the current menus and issue new ones! I should take another star off, but I hate to discourage future patrons from visiting. read more

My friend Anna and I went here after my Yelp Elite event, it's close to her house. Oddly enough we ran into friends sitting outside so we joined them. The menu with the wine offerings was well curated and compact. They had Bouvay by the glass (French Sparkling) and we got some Hedonist Chocolate. Unfortunately I have no clue if they serve food or bites to go with flights of wine to bad it would have been nice things know or given some sort of direction. A wonderful addition to the Corn Hill area. Visit with a small group because the space is tight or shall I say "cozy." I prefer to sit at the bar to admire in awe the wine display behind the bar. Plus, the info you'll learn from the bartender, err sommelier, is so valuable. There are a few tables and comfy seats. In the summer they open up the patio, which is a necessity. This is another spot I love to frequent to try new wines and expose myself to a little wine history lesson with the various flight options. Beyond the wines, they offer some light fare, including cheese and charcuterie plates. The ambiance of Flight is wonderful, and the wine selection is spectacular. There is a decent amount of seating, and it is comfortable. I ordered the Bare Essence flight and loved every wine! Our friends also enjoyed their wines and ordered a cheese plate, which came with a surprising amount of food. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They seemed a little understaffed, or maybe the staff there was not as attentive as they should have been. Not a huge deal to us, but worth mentioning - hopefully you are not in a rush when you're at a wine bar anyway! I love Flight for date night, pre-dinner drinks, or happy hour with my girlfriends! Flight has a diverse selection of wine and everyone who works there is extremely knowledgeable. I am a huge fan of their champagne flights, especially in the summer when sitting out on their patio. Make sure you try out a couple of their cheeses while you're there too! They come with bread, dried fruit, and honey and there's so many options to choose from. The only reason I didn't give Flight 5 full stars is that sometimes when sitting outside, service can be a bit slow. I came here once a few weeks ago on a whim after having dinner at the Tap & Table (pub next door). The wine bar is about the size of a small coffee shop; I doubt it can seat more than 50 people in there. There is a bar towards the center that has a pretty decent variety of wines on display. In front of the bar is the front area with tables and there is another area adjacent to the bar with more tables. You can choose to sit at the bar or at the tables. The atmosphere seems pretty yuppie-like, but there are younger folks like us all the way to 60 year olds. The setup is fairly simple but effective. Menu is mainly wines (obviously), but also has some simple appetizers, cheese plates, and cold cut plates. They have flights that you can do and sample 3 different wines. Each flight is themed differently. You can also buy wines by the glass if you happen to like a particular wine as well. They have a good selection from many different regions and styles, including a couple of port wines, of which I was pleased. We ordered the cheese sampler and chose 3 different cheeses from the list. It came with some olives, bread, and honey as well. Our waitress did not have too extensive of knowledge on wine, but there is a sommelier who is running the bar who helped with our questions. Overall, I had a lot of fun. My fiancee is more into wine than I am but I enjoyed the novelty of this place. Of note, we came on a Thursday late afternoon (around 5pm) and there were maybe 8 other people here, which made it very comfortable and quiet. We were told by the staff that Fri and Sat nights get pretty packed. Their beer selection is mediocre at best, which is understandable, considering this is a wine bar. I wish the waitress had a better knowledge base and we got bigger pours, but not a bad place. I give 3.5 stars. read more

I've been to Flight three times: once on a date night, once for a girls night, and once for a girl-date night. Each time I really enjoy myself, but I'm always a little shell shocked at how much I've ended up spending. $13-20 for a flight of wine (depending on which one you choose) and $15 for a plate of three cheese or three meats. At least they bring out complimentary olives to start! When I was there last night, the server was new, but she helped us as much as she could, she apologized when she couldn't, and had a really great attitude. I'm not a wine snob, so when she couldn't answer all my questions, I was ok with it. In previous experiences, the people who COULD answer all my questions weren't as receptive to them, but she was happy to chat with us and look into what we needed to know. I really was impressed with this place. We stopped in on a random Tuesday night and pretty much had the place to ourselves. The atmosphere is nice with a large wall o' wines, a nice bar and some comfortable seating. They were doing some free samples that night and after we sampled one, our group of 4 decided to stick with the name of the place and order some "flights." I sampled the Tres Rojas which had a Carmenere, a Malbec and a Syrah. The flights are set up to enjoy 3 wines in a similar category. Of my three wines, I enjoyed the Syrah which had a very distinct smokey flavor. I ended up ordering a full glass after the flight was complete. For $13 or $14 you get three tasting pours, which were actually pretty generous. I would say any where from 1-1/2 glasses to almost 2 glasses of wine compared to other places. Not a bad price. They also have beer on the menu as well. They also have cheeses, salamis and chocolates to pair with the wine. We had a blue cheese and venison salami. Both were fantastic. We also had the flight of chocolate which had dipped chocolate orange peels, truffles, and a milk chocolate with sesame seeds and sea salt. All were also fantastic. We left very hungry after this, but we expected to grab something on the way home anyway. I will be returning. I like the atmosphere, I like the wine (at least the red) and the small plates are not too bad either. Would be a nice place for a night cap. read more

My boyfriend and I came here on a weekday evening. We decided to sit at the bar, and what a great decision that was. The bartender was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered a white flight and a red flight as well as a selection of cheeses (which the bartender helped us pick based on our wines and our cheese tastes). Since it was a weekday evening there was only one other waitress working the table customers. She had to have been consuming product because she seemed a bit aloof. She misread our order in our favor and she ended up giving us their charcuterie (meat trio) in addition to our original order. They let us keep it for free and we were not going to complain, but that can't be good for business. The pours of wine and portions of cheese/meat were generous and more than enough for 2 people to share and enjoy. The meat and cheese portions might have been due to the aloof waitress who also was working the "kitchen", but we had no complaints there! In fact, we had a hard time finishing everything. I would recommend Flight for dates or groups 4 or smaller. It's a nice relaxing atmosphere with great options. It is everything I expected and hoped it to be; we will certainly be back! read more

We love going here! It is so fun to try new wines. We love stopping by after a show at BlueCross Arena or the RPO. We also like coming with friends later at night. We have tried wines with their delicious chocolates, as well as their cheeses and charcuterie, which are good, too. Chocolates are unique and delicious. Cheeses & charcuterie seem more standard and unfortunately overpriced to me, considering how much you could get at Wegmans for the same amount. I realize this is restaurant pricing, but it's still high to me. We always wished we could get more substantial tapas-style snacks, too. Service is good and selection is great. It's a big pricey, but ok for date night or once in a while. We do look forward to coming here. read more

Small Wine Bar with nicely chosen wines. It's very hard for me to comment on Flight out of context. We live walking distance and had always thought of it as a nice place to try, but then we saw it listed among Travel and Leisure's "America's Best Wine Bars" and we had to try it. We've gone twice and it is a nice place. An America's Best?! Hell, no. First, the review is all wrong in the assertion that Filght overlooks the Genesee river. The patio overlooks a parking lot for the retail portion of Corn Hill Landing. There are a few restaurants there that overlook the water and the city, but Flight is not one. The wine list is not nearly long enough to warrant a ranking. It's one two sided page, and I'll second another review that there are no vintages. We had a flight of white wines - a sauvignon blanc, a Muller-Thurgau, and gewurztraminer - and the chocolate flight. The wines were nice. The sauvignon blac was the best of them, but the gewurz was surprisingly dry, which was more to our tastes. It had a decent sweetness and paired best with the chocolate. The M-T was very light and watery. The chocolate flight has some great truffles, but is rather small...a light taste for 2. We wanted more and so ordered the brie plate, which was great, the brie was nice with a rind that was not too bitter, and there was plenty of baguette to go with it. For decor, the nicest part of the place is the wall behind the bar, which you can see easily on the web. There is a good amount of seating, especially since it is never that full. There are very high ceilings, but the walls are a little bare so it seems unfinished. The patio is very comfortable. The waitresses have always been very nice and attentive, but they tend to not know too much about the menu, which is somewhat a disappointment, b/c there is not a lot of information on the menu. I've lived around the corner from Flight Wine Bar for months and yet I've just discovered it. Having been there for the first time, I look forward to going back on a regular basis. I don't recommend coming here with a huge group of people of people (i.e. any more than 4), but this is a wine bar so it lends itself well to small, intimate gatherings. The set up is prettysimple; several small tables and some couches, along with a small bar that can seat about ten people. There were two of us and we opted to get two flights of wine (one white, one red) and one flight of chocolates. Neither of us are wine connoisseurs so we asked our server about the menu. The server provided some fantastic descriptions of everything on the menu and made our choices much easier. With 6 wines in front of us, we took a few sips and had some clear favorites, but then we tried some of the chocolates and it made some of our less favorite wines taste amazing (and some taste awful). It wasn't long before we were talking like pretentious snobs about the wine and chocolate flavors. A very very strong 4 star review. Myself and my girlfriend are slowly getting into the wine scene. We have been trying wine casually for a while and have wanted to give Flight a try. Since we are novices of wine, we were helped by a very knowledgeable bar tender who actually does the ordering for the bar. She recommend both a red and white flight based on our preferences. We each got three samples of wine from around the world and we enjoyed each one. It's a small and trendy place great for a date. They had little conversation cards that we went through and had a few laughs during our time there. It was dark but quaint and very relaxed. We got a cheese platter that the bar tender recommended to us that complemented our wines well. Everything was very good. I recommend this place for couples and people who enjoy wine. It's a good place to also go with a group of friends. Also, if you're not a wine person and are going there with friends, don't worry. They have a solid selection of bottled beers. I have heard good things about this place so thought I would check it out. The bar has a pretty interior and looks modern inside. I really liked the presentation of the meat and cheese we picked out. They have outdoor seating which is a nice option. I got the Red Red flight and was very displeased. The wines were not what I would be expecting for a flight called Red Red. The legs on two were decent and the coloring was good. But they were just not the right kind of dry or the types of reds I would be expecting. Also paying $22 for 3 small samples of red wine is just disappointing. I would have really liked to see more detailed pairings of food and wines. I might go back one more time to give it another try. But I will probably not get a flight and just choose from the wine list this time. read more

I went to Flight last night with a friend who had been there a few times before with mixed experiences. This was my first time and I was looking forward to trying it out as I had heard good things. We were quickly sat down and given menus and our server came by and suggested a special which we agreed sounded good. A few minutes later we had our flight sitting in front of us to share. We smelled each of the wines and one smelled skunky and the other two did not smell too good. Tasting the first two confirmed that the first wine had gone bad (or just was a bad wine) and the second was just plain bad. We called over the server who took the first wine back and said she would have someone check it out to make sure it wasn't bad. Someone came over to our table; I'm not sure if she was a manager or not. She told is she had tried the wine and that it "didn't have bacteria" and had not gone bad and didn't understand the problem. We told her the first two wines both smelled and tasted bad. She told us it was the best selling flight of the night and that maybe the wines just, "don't suit your palate," and again told us she did not understand what the problem was. We went through this exchange three times expecting her to remedy the situation in some way, but instead kept telling us that our subjective experience was wrong. We told her that we were extremely unhappy and we walked out. It's my understanding that this isn't the kind of customer service that allows an establishment to remain successful. It's too bad that this was my first and last visit to this wine bar. read more

This is a great little wine bar in cornhill. It's not large so I would say no to big groups, think around 6 max. It has an intimite setting with dim lights and light background music. The outdoor area has heaters around too, it's nice to be able to be outside in April and May and not freeze. It's a fun place to go for date night and girls night. I've heard you can make up your own flight and order that versus the flight menu if you are picky. Huge wine selection and small beer selection. Food menu is limited, chocolate truffles are great. I wish they would open something like this up in Greece, believe it or not there are alot of young people that live there (like myself) who would love a place like this closer. read more

I've only been to Flight once. But that experience was good. We were treated with respect and attention to our requests. I know enough about wine to know what I like and what it was on the menu that they had that was good. Lucikily, our server/bartender (what do you call a bartender in a wine bar - they're not a sommelier) didn't try to be pretentious but made serious recommendations based upon what we described as our tastes. Definitely worth another try but I find their hours to be most odd. Overall, I do give a nod to Solera across the river in the Wedge. read more

Lovely place. The interior reminds me of somewhere in San Francisco: a mix of wine cellar-industrial-chic. It's nice for sitting outside and people watching along Corn Hill Landing. It is situated right on a busy street though. The waitstaff is attentive. Once I went on a Tuesday with a living social coupon and like another patron said, there were only a few other tables occupied. When I was there on a nice Saturday evening, every outdoor table was full. The wine list is varied and extensive. These are wines you wouldn't be able to order by the glass at many other Rochester venues. Due to my newfound love for California reds, I must recommend the "California Retreat" flight and the Predator Old Vine Zin in particular. The three glasses in a flight are brought out in this adorable, new-fangled wine glass holder that is always a talking point at the table. The food menu is small but golden. The charcuterie selections are delish, the bread is warm, and the cheese menu has something for everyone's palate. Our favorite was the midnight moon cheese. read more

Lovely wine bar in Corn Hill landing. Well decorated interior with a couple love seats, some 2-top and 4-top tables and seats at the bar. Patio is open in the summer. Very nice selection of wines! We were in last night after dinner elsewhere and it was the perfect spot to end our evening. The lights were a bit low, the snowflakes falling outside and great company. There was good flow through our two hours there...people in to have a glass of wine then on their way, or ordering flights with cheese and staying a while. Very nice crowd. You can choose from "flights" of wine, hence the business name :) , a glass or a full bottle. They offer such a selection! From champagne to white and red wines to dessert wine! I prefer dry reds and ordered the Dark Star flight. The Cab and Carmenere were delicious!! My friends ordered white wine flights and enjoyed each of theirs so much they went on to order a glass of one of the wines they had. My wife and I stopped here for the first time this evening. We sat at the tables just behind the lounge area as it was busy outside, (70 some odd degrees on March 20!). My wife went for the White Diamonds flight, (Rieslings) I had the Tres Rojas, (South American Reds). We also has 3 of the cheeses, (Spanish, German, and Dutch). The decor and ambiance is laid back. A nice change from so many places that seem "frat boy chic" Our server, Tina was great, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Excellent value for the money, good pours, nice sized cheeses. Looking at the menu the glass prices seemed not out of line as were the beer prices, (yes, I said beer). We will be very happy to go back and bring friends. If you are looking for pretentious, vintage crazed wine lists, go elsewhere. Flight is your friendly, neighborhood wine bar. Flight is a solid wine bar. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, frequently making suggestions without being overtly pushy. The wine flights are curated with care and if you state your penchant for a particular type of wine, the server or bartender will not lead you astray. The interior is tastefully swanky and in the summer the outdoor patio is a pleasant place to relax away the evening. The problem is, at the end of the day, the "outdoor seating" is a patio facing a parking lot in the city of Rochester and there is no way to circumvent the awkwardness of this situation, even if there is live music once in awhile! Still, Flight is a lovely, albeit somewhat pricey, respite in Corn Hill. Avoid during peak hours - the space just isn't big enough. read more

I've been to Flight twice now and absolutely shocked at how empty it was. Located in Cornhill, there should be plenty of traffic. I came once during the week and once on a saturday night, and I've enjoyed myself plenty both times. There are a few small tables outside if it's a nice night out or there is bar area and a small lounge area as well. I've always picked the small lounge area, and come to enjoy those semi-cheesy conversation starter cards at the table with questions like "what is something you like to clean" or "what is your biggest regret?" We were even getting so into it so much that the table next to us starting chiming in their answers! WIth a pretty small backroom area, there is only a small selection of food items. Flight is definitely an after-dinner drinks place rather than a dinner place. Don't worry fellow men, they do indeed have beer, but when at a wine bar, you need to try the wine. You can order wine by the glass, but the true value of Flight comes in ordering wine in a flight! It's definitely not a small tasting of 3 wines either, it's a really good pour of 3 wines! I've ordered the Tres Rojas both times, for I love my deep reds. The ladies also ordered the White diamonds as well. It was a nice way to try a bunch of different wines at a reasonable price. The wines are paired are similar in style but also different enough to stretch your taste palate. Also, at an average of $15, a flight is a home run! I loved the fact that our waitress kept on refilling the small olive bowl as well. For a nice, relaxing, not overcrowded place to try some new wines, I'd definitely recommend Flight.
