I only leave negative reviews when a business refuses to find a resolution to an issue. In this case I am due a refund for the hack job Kseniya did on my hair. However, I am now being ghosted by this company and am filing a dispute with my bank. I was so excited when I found Flipp salon. I thought they would definitely be able to give me the edgy haircut I've been looking for- a chin length shagged wolf cut. I submitted on online consult form and didn't hear back. A week later I called and left a message. After getting no response and waiting another week I emailed them on instagram and then *finally* got in touch. I had an in person consult with Kseniya and brought photos of what I was looking for, as well as photos of myself with my most favorite haircut. I came in for the appointment and was more definitive of what I was looking for-which was my previous haircut a chin length layered bob with an A line. I showed her pictures of the cut and color and...... promptly had my hair poorly dyed and hacked off nearly to the scalp. I had over a foot and a half of curly hair. After the first cut I realized Kseniya did not understand curly hair and I didn't know what to do. The first cut with my wet hair was at my cheekbone- Do I jump out of the chair with half a haircut? I should have. I don't understand the disconnect with the salon and their Instagram. I was looking for a chin length edgy modern bob for my curly hair. What I got is pretty darn near a buzz cut (she did, in fact, use clippers on the back) and the dye didn't even take at the nape of my neck. It's less than an inch long on the back and 4 inches in the front (when stretched- with the curls it is about 2-3 inches). It's so short in the back that my scalp is exposed and the cut in the front is uneven with the hair longer on the side with the part. It's the worst haircut I have ever had in my entire life and is going to take at least 6 months for it to grow to the length I was asking for. There is no "fixing" this. I am due a refund for this awful hack job and am flabbergasted by the lack of professionalism of this salon- literally ghosting an unhappy customer. Are we still in high school? read more

I recommend the salon for so many reasons. It's women owned, LGBTQ friendly, and they use earth and animal friendly products. The only thing that was slightly confusing for me on my first appointment was figuring out which length appointment I needed. I booked a 72 minute appointment and it turns out I only needed, a short amount of time. My husband and I recently moved to Providence. I was in search of a salon/stylist that was familiar with custom colors to work on my grey blonde as well a place that focuses on the use of organic, natural, and ethically minded products. And WOAH... did I hit the jackpot with Flipp! From the moment you enter the salon, you are greeted with this mod, eclectic, down to earth vibe that just makes you feel like you can really let your hair down. ( pun totally intended ). No stuffy atmosphere here! Every detail of this salon is a curated experience. It's clear that a lot of effort was put into making this place feel one-of-a-kind and it shows. Often times, hair products with synthetic fragrance or a lot of chemicals will make me feel sick and give me a headache. However, I did have ANY negative reaction to the products used on my hair here! I had my first appointment at Flipp and had my haircut by Charlotte. I have very fine hair that is also very thick and it can be treacherous getting haircuts because it can end up looking like Loyd from dumb and dumber. my hair was also about shoulder length and I wanted something much shorter for the summer. Charlotte gave me what I consider the best haircut I have ever received. She listened to what I wanted and created great shape. l've been growing my hair out for 3 years and have been afraid of having anyone touch it, but at the recommendation of a friend I made an appointment here with Mark. Covid protocols are in place and I felt safe and secure there. Mark is an absolute master at what he does. Listened to my needs and was a great conversationalist. First off I if I have to option to give 0 star that would be great ! I came in for a hair cut , it was suppose to be a stack up layer cut but my hair came out nothing like it . I explain to the stylish Rebel about what I wanted and she seem to know what I wanted but my hair cut came out horrible . On top of that for a shitty hair cut they over charge me . I couldn't describe them better than how they describe themselves: "an up-beat, positive space aiming to interconnect art, wellness and all things beautiful to the eye and to the soul. Aiming to promote whole-ism in the individual and in the community through a common space and have fun in doing so!" More so than just a team of very talented, creative hair stylists, Flipp makes going to the salon FUN - and informative (not just about hair, but about navigating Providence in general). Most products for hair and skin are natural and plant-based. The space is bright, funky, and welcoming. Unique, artsy decor. Peek at the bathroom sign - hilarious! I love that they promote so many other small businesses in Providence as well through referrals, handing out cards, etc. Custom herbal tea blends are offered, in addition to acupressure and reflexology. The owner Joanna is also the lead singer of B-Hive; a B-52 cover band! From their business page, you will be directed to facebook/schedicity to schedule. Downsides? Transit St. in Providence is a little out of the way, mostly because of the pain of 1-way South Main St. I've never had a hard time parking, but the area can be tricky during peak hours of the day. Worth stopping by to admire the space even if you have a hairdresser you swear by, but I can't imagine getting my hair cut anywhere else. read more

Every few years, I venture off to a new salon to give my look a fun and fresh update. After some research, I decided to go to Flipp and was lucky enough to get Mariska as my stylist. First off, the location of the salon is adorable and very convenient in the east side of Providence. Mariska is ABSOLUTELY awesome. I was trying a bayalage for the first time and even though I could not pronounce that darn thing, she knew exactly what I was talking about and did an incredible job. She was diligent, patient, and was quite the perfectionist - which is fantastic for a stylist to be. I've been going back to her for the last few months and each visit is as awesome as the previous. I also love their online appointment booking system! It's incredibly simple and I get reminders on when my appointment is coming up. Such basic service but still a great thing to have at my disposal. :) On top of this, Mariska even lets me tect her directly if there is anything I need done on the fly or if I have to have a free afternoon to get a quick trim or color. I had a friend recommend Flipp for my cut and color I was planning on getting. I did my consultation with Robyn and she did a great job of figuring out exactly what I wanted for style and color shade with my pictures I brought. The final result came out amazing! I had several inches cut off and a close to burgundy shade mixed in with my naturally dark brown hair. The owner also sent out updates throughout the shutdown during COVID and did home deliveries of products. They were very easy to reach and responded quickly to any questions. When I went to set up my next appointment I had just gotten engaged and needed my hair cut before photos. Melissa wasn't available the day I needed -- this was easy to figure out because of their extremely convenient online appointment system -- so I made an appointment with Nina. I selected Nina because her profile indicated she does hair for weddings. I could not be happier with Nina. She always texts me personally with a reminder for my appointments and does an excellent job with my hair. Plus, she is one of the nicest ladies. I had the first trial for my wedding in December and was very pleased with this as well. I went in not really knowing what I wanted to do with my hair. I truly NEVER thought I'd be giving a hair salon a 5 star review - I always have bad experiences at salons and have truly never had a haircut I liked (until now!). Part of this is my own problem - I am extremely shy and anxious, so sitting in a chair for an hour or more talking to a stranger is my personal nightmare. It's also partly due to my hair type - I have very thick, wavy hair that can be difficult to manage. It isnt the easiest to cut and style. With all that being said, my appointment with Mark at this salon was actually PERFECT. This place is clean, professional, very reasonably priced for the area, and very "cool" too if that matters to you. Mark was beyond friendly, welcoming, and listened to my concerns and requests for my hair. My hair was in a pretty bad state when I went in (the pandemic and depression have ruined any haircare routines for a lot of us) and he didn't make me feel bad about it. I left happier, more confident, and with the funky Joan Jett shag of my dreams! My boyfriend even said afterwards that I looked the most "me" he'd ever seen. If you're nervous about taking care of your hair again or just have difficult hair and struggle with being shy like I do, go here and book with Mark. On the day of the appointment I was actually 10 mins late! The receptionist called me 5 mins into the appointment and asked if I was on my way and at this point I was only 2/3 blocks away. Unfortunately when I arrived I had no idea they didn't have a parking lot. The parking lot behind the salon was actually for local residents, so I had to park down the street and walk to the salon. When I arrived I was quite nervous and embarrassed to have come in so late! But soon enough I met with Shannalee. She was quick to sit me down and ask about the ombre I wanted. I showed her a photo of an ombre and although she disagreed and even quoted Khloe Kardashian, she said it was not possible to get it ashy blonde in one sitting. (For reference, prior to my appointment, my hair was really dark brown/black, thick, straight, up to my collar bone, and virgin hair.) This was understandable, I thought. Shannalee even suggested for me to get a cut regardless of me getting a fresh hair chop a couple days prior because of the possible damage the ombre might have to my ends. Fast forward even later to my coloring process. Despite me being in the salon and really liking the color, once I got a closer look at home I was a tad unimpressed. The view is very different when you're sitting in a very lit salon, sitting a couple feet away from the mirror VS. getting a close up in your very own bathroom. The color was something that could be eventually colored to my desired color (ashy blonde) but the technique of the ombre was somewhat stripy. I felt like my hair did not have the fluidity or gradient effect of typically ombre'd hair. Also the bottom of my hair still has some dark pieces in it. Maybe this was suppose to be intended for the evolution of my ombre since my hair is so dark but she also said little to nothing to me while in the chair (aside from the brief talk we had about what I wanted to do with my hair) so either way I wouldn't know. She did little to no explaining about the process and didn't tell me when it was appropriate to get my hair done again. She did not make me feel super comfortable nor did I get the impression that she even wanted to do my hair. The 'cut' she gave me was also no more than 4/5 snips at my hair. In the end she charged me for an ombre with a 'partial' haircut but still nearly the price of the combo she charges anyways (courtesy of https://www.schedulicity.com/scheduling/SSACPP/services) with only $5 off for a regular priced haircut! A partial haircut and regular haircut only being a $5 difference was ... interesting to me!!? All in all, I'm rating it a 2/5 because "Meh. Here goes... this is going to be a long one, so strap on your seat-belts and get ready for the ride. I used to have a hairdresser friend who was the first person to touch my hair in years, like 10+ years. When I met my friend, my hair was down to my butt and after some convincing, I decided to make the decision to cut it. So my hair was taken up about 6 inches to my chest area. A few months later, it was cut to my chin in a very cute angled bob look. Everyone I knew was in shock because they never thought they'd see the day that my long luscious locks would be gone. That was 5 years ago. Since then, I've been letting my hair grow and grow. My hair is thick and curly and annoying; so all I would really ever do on a daily basis is throw it up into a bun or in a pony. How boring. I started looking through old pictures of me with short hair and going online to look at hairstyles and I finally made the decision that I wanted to go back to the short style and donate my hair to Locks of Love. I didn't know where to begin with finding a new stylist because my friend doesn't' do hair anymore. I asked around to other friends, but wasn't really happy with what I was hearing. Then I turned to the next best option, Yelp. Yelp put me in touch with Flipp Salon and after reading all of the stellar reviews, I said to myself "this is the place I need to go." I called on a Friday and was able to schedule an appointment for the next day at 1:30 p.m. with Davon. I explained to the receptionist that I have very long hair that I'm attached to and I need someone who is going to coddle me and really listen and understand to what I want in my new do'. I arrived at Flipp at 1:30 and met with Davon. I showed her a couple of pictures and explained to her exactly what I wanted. She was WONDERFUL! Not only did we have great conversation for the 2 hours I was in the chair, she really truly listened to exactly what I wanted done. I mean, come on... this is a drastic change for anyone. When all was said and done, she cut off 19 inches which I took home with me and will be mailing to Locks of Love on Monday. I would highly suggest Davon to anyone looking for a sweet, honest and talented hair stylist. She asked me my opinions on how it was looking and if I wanted anything tweaked, instead of just having a go at it and hoping I would like it. She gave me the choppy, edgy and cute angled bob that I was looking for. Well, you know what... I LOVE it. It's also not easy to find stylists, who can work with sometime unruly and thick Asian hair. Before my wedding in November, I opted out of a haircut in order to grow out my hair for an updo. Instead, after consulting Yelp reviews, I booked an appointment with Melissa at Flipp for hair coloring services. The ambience and decor at Flipp is certainly cute and quirky. As I have monotonous, "The Ring" style, pitch-black hair, I desperately needed some color depth and tone variation to lighten up my hair in a natural way. I was very pleased with the result as the color helped show off my fabulous wedding updo. Like a close girlfriend, Melissa is also sweet, professional, and pleasant to work with. Like a previous Yelper noted, I found the payment process to be smooth and easy. I simply had to sign an iphone to authorize my transaction and to add a percentage of tip and received an email with my receipt After a successful coloring experience with Melissa, I recently booked a hair cut with her. The result...a fabulous, soft, textured bob with side bangs. My once heavy and thick hair suddenly feels light and has a lot of movement. I'm rarely pleased with my haircuts. In fact, I may have truly loved 1 or 2 previous haircuts, but this most recent haircut is one of my favorites :) Next up for spring is a chic pixie cut a la Michelle Williams. After an initial bad haircut in Providence, I made sure to do some research before getting another cut. Flipp comes highly recommended. I had to call into make an appointment. They do not really do walkins. The salon is tucked around a corner off Benefit. I had no trouble finding parking. Flipp is definitely a place that tries really hard to be cool and hipster. Consequently, it came off a bit snobby. However, Melissa, my stylist, was nice and helpful. And she gave me a great cut! I thought I had finally found a salon in Providence. But about a month later, I came back top get my bangs trimmed, as Melissa stated that she did this for free for customers. Well, she cut them alright... More like chopped them. The care in cutting that was there for the first cut was absent when she trimmed my bangs. They were not straight and much too short. And she wasn't so pleasant. After moving from NYC and trying to find somewhere that can really listen and do wonders with your hair I stumbled here after a very negative experience at a 'cool' salon elsewhere in town. This place does a great job on haircuts, as everyone has already said. I've been to both Shanna and Melissa and they are both great, for me personally I think Melissa edged out because she really understood my need for texture - which I still call "thinning" - and executed what I was looking for. Melissa also said she specialized in coloring red hair, which is a big plus for me and a heads up to the other redheads or those thinking of going red. I was concerned with some greys coming in spotty at the temples and she put me at ease by saying a glaze would do the trick without actually coloring my hair and would also leave it shiny. Very relieving as dealing with grey hair as a redhead has been a source of nervousness for me! The on-line booking is a breeze and prices are fair. The interior works, though I've been to better in my day. The washing chair station leaves a little something to be desired. read more

However, my mane just had to be tamed. This salon has a really funky vibe (vibrant robins egg walls. Trees with curlers hanging). I'm used to a longer more aggressive wash. Mariska was very meticulous with my hair. She used multiple types of scissors and sheers. She was very friendly and talented. I've been coming to Flipp Salon since it opened and have been thrilled after every visit. I followed Melissa here from her previous salon and I always leave happy with my hair. Melissa has cut and colored my hair and has a great feel and instinct for what works for me. She takes my vague descriptions and random impulses and turns them into something that works every time. Cool spot in Providence. I went in near the holidays to purchase some all natural cosmetics and skin care for my sister and niece , the owner was very knowledgeable and helpful explaining all of the products to me along with the health benefits.. There were lots of tea choices and cool handmade natural bath bombs. I will defiantly go back for a visit soon. read more
