"There's something magical about rooftops. You feel like you're in 'Mary Poppins."…read moreGeorge Clarke There really is something special about being on a rooftop on a perfect summer evening, and it's great to have it right in downtown Sugar Hill. I would like to say I planned the perfect date, but as some of the best things in life, this was just an impromptu visit to cap off an already great evening. Outside of being on the rooftop, the bar itself is upscale yet approachable, service was fast and friendly. Being a bit of a self engrandized home bartender I'm a bit critical when out of my home lab, but their Smoked Old Fashioned wasn't bad. ("Wasn't bad" really means very good.") While I don't love the prices and hate paying a cover charge, when you throw in live music, a great vibe, and a view, I can't really complain. The owner made an announcement that whoever tipped the band $10 would get a free drink, and since most drinks were over $15 I thought that was cool on many levels. Will definitely be back to The Rooftop!

We walked around and finally ran into a waitress who told us to sit anywhere we wished inside or outside. The only area festive was inside a closed igloo and no heaters were on outdoors which was just a tad too cool for me despite the super nice weather that day. It would have been so to sit outside but without the warmth of the heaters we headed inside. We placed our order and explained we were just there for a pre-dinner drink and wanted to check out the venue so we didn't leave our tab open but we were quickly served the fabulous taking drinks on their menu(s). The Old Fashioned was on the regular menu and the Russian was on their seasonal tabletop menu. Server was very nice and took photos for some ladies we met. The only reason I can't give them a 5 star is they claim they are big on hospitality but yet we were not acknowledged upon arrival. Many restaurants and even some retail stores have a way to ensure they say hello/welcome immediately when you enter and without a hostess - the mindset should be that the bar or wait staff have a way to immediately say hello or welcome so those who have never been feel welcomed as well as those who frequently come. It would be nice to have a more festive decor for the holidays but that didn't affect my review; just a statement to say that the entire Sugar Hill area was pumping and themed with the holiday spirit then we walked in the only area decorated was not even accessible nor was it offered as an option to enjoy.

It's a good spot for date night, or a special occasion, or just when you want a properly- and artfully-prepared crepe and coffee. Their new location in Dacula is a bit further from home for me, but it is worth the drive - and longer. They have an expanded menu featuring a variety of French classics. They still do offer galette and crepe menu items. This new location also features bar service, and their menu has a short list of specialty cocktails and TGG versions of standard mixes. Amuse Bouche: a fresh watermelon gazpacho (served in a shooter) with a tiny crispy wafer topped with Gruyère and apple preserve. Wild! I ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon. One of our party ordered the Sea Bass and another went light and ordered a selection of appetizers. They reported excellent preparation and flavors. Mine was extremely well prepared, rich and full flavored. The dishes were presented like works of art. It was the luck of the day that beams of setting sunlight shone through the curtains and illuminated our meals just as they were placed on the table. The spiraled lemon on the crab cake caught sun like a stained glass window. The beef arrangement on my side looked like a tiny forest, with tender boulders of mushrooms and meat, fallen trees of carrots, a little shrub of Swiss chard, and a sapling sprig of fresh rosemary. But for real - artistic musings aside, this was some damn good food. I thoroughly enjoyed the main course, and of course, I had to get a crepe for dessert. Tout de Chocolat was such a perfect finish, with freshly toasted almonds and warm buttery caramel to offset wave after wave of chocolate flavors. I always love the atmosphere they create. The owner was in the house and she is always such a delight to encounter. The Galloping Galette should be on your short list for great restaurant experiences in Gwinnett County.

Got in right away, might say something. Ordered a margarita and beer and put in knowing we wanted escargot and got our drinks. My was not drinkable with too much lime juice. The waitress took care of the drink and I ordered a tequila pineapple juice. Perfect. Shaken not stirred. The amouse bush was delicious and a great start. Waited a long time between courses IMHO. Did get the French onion soup which was actually very good. Just needed a pinch of salt Ordered the scallops and the duck special. Very rich but so flavorful and want you coming back for more. Unami bomb. The duck side was this unchcous polenta that ate more like a pudding. The finishing touch was the pear crepe with whipped cream, ice cream and chocolate sauce. We will be back and I want to see if we can them to a 5

My waitress I believe her name is Penelope was phenomenal and she recommended the snapper with jollof rice. It was my first time trying it. **This review is specifically for Overstory Rooftop Brunch**…read more Made a solo reservation on a Sunday to have brunch before seeing a show. The good parts didn't outweigh the not-so-good for me. 1. Located on the 9th floor of The Westin, BUT, parking is mad affordable, which is a big relief as usually hotel rooftops have a static valet parking fee for $25 or more. There is a garage right in front of the entrance and its 5 bucks for up to 4 hours. 2. Views - decent enough for the 9th floor, but mostly overlooks trees and some highways. There isn't much to actually look at as far as a skyline. I was here in the daytime though, maybe at night with whatever city lights coming in, it may be a lil more charming. 3. Ambience - the inside was really nice, the tables were big and seating was comfy, a combo of cushioned chairs and velvety booths or couches. nice decor, and the outside portion of the rooftop also seemed very spacious, with a big main area as well as seating & a few more tables down the side of the building. I went during the yacht rock brunch period, so there was a live DJ spinning old hits from the 70s/80s. the music was at a cool volume, not so loud that you can't hear anyone speak, but not too low like background music - loud enough that you feel like its okay to vibe out. 4. Food & Service - this is where it fell apart for me. when i was seated, it took about 15-20 minutes for my waitress to come and ask me what i wanted to drink. when she finally did, i realized this same woman had walked past me several times before, on the way to do nothing in particular. she didn't introduce herself but was polite. she brought out my coffee and took my order, it took an hour for my food to come out. and the place wasn't crowded. only 2 couples sitting outside and about 40% capacity ithe indoor section where I was. and the food was subpar. it all came out hot, BUT. chicken sausage was hard to bite because casing was burnt and tough. eggs were cooked with so much butter it just tasted like i was eating fluffy butter. biscuit was dry and couldn't possibly be homemade. 'parmesan potatoes' had a few sad dried dots of cheese and parsley but no seasoning whatsoever. i forced myself to eat about half. I live far from Duluth, so really no reason to come back. Maybe a nighttime hang with drinks only, on the outdoor terrace would be a slightly better experience. But I don't have to find out.
