So, this activity was not my thing... I probably will not "float again." But, that is a personal preference, not a business preference. However... the location and parking was easy to find and access, even with construction on nearby roads. The attendant was super friendly and helpful. He explained everything I needed to know and different options for different t experiences to better enjoy. The rooms were nice and clean. My pictures are terrible compared to what's already on yelp. If you haven't tried it, give it a try and see if it's for you. This is a very nice facility to try. read more

Had my first float session this past weekend, and I don't know why I waited so long to try it out! The Experience: I am an over-thinker and was afraid my mind would keep me from relaxing. However, the whole setup pulled me from my thoughts and really allowed focus on one thing at a time. I went from thinking about my daily routine to focusing on my breath, to just floating--feeling light and relaxed. The thoughts crept back here and there, but I am guessing a few more sessions can help me get into the meditation state I need. I loved the spaciousness in the Ocean Room. It really felt like floating under the stars. The only feature that this room did not have was music--which didn't matter to me. Floating is a great way to clear the noise, and focus on yourself. Just make sure your earplugs are in tight. Mine was a tad loose, so water got in. As I got up, a bit of salt water got into my eye. Each room keeps a spray bottler with purified water and washcloth nearby for this reason, so all good! I will definitely be returning! The Service: I purchased a birthday deal online and was able to reserve my room with ease. I ended up rescheduling so I could go with my sister. This was easily done by phone! When we arrived, Greg did a wonderful job explaining the process. His calm voice and demeanor really set the mood. A brief tour was given, and then he explained how to use both Pod and Ocean Rooms. After the session, we were "welcomed back" and asked about our experience. We loved it and told him we (my sister and I) would return. This is where I expected him to talk about memberships and deals, etc. To my surprise, he did not push any of it on us, and I appreciate that. :) The Space: I was enlightened the minute I stepped in. Very clean, quiet and chill. The float space was larger than I expected. Honestly, I was hesitant because I didn't know if I would feel comfortable in a pod and/or closing it. What's great is the ability to customize your experience with direct control of music (only in pod rooms atm), lighting (whether it be in the water, above you or completely off), and temperatures (leaving the room door or pod cracked open). They have everything you need--shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cotton swabs, towel, and more. There are gender neutral restrooms, which also provide lotion and hair dryer. A "prep" room is in the works, which will eventually hold most of these items. A lounge to relax prior or after, where they normally serve beverages like tea or water (this is not done right now due to COVID). I discovered the joys of floating back in 2012 when I was studying fir my very first board exam. I did several floats in a short span of time leading up to the exam and it really helped me relax. The experience is very much a sensory deprivation chamber. It takes away sound, light, and even gravity and really helps get into a deep meditative state. When I found out that Madison not only had a float spa, but also biking distance from my house, I was ecstatic. I grouped another set of floats very close to each other before my most recent board exam and it definitely did the trick! The price for floats and memberships is comparable to what I was paying in 2012 when I lived in Scottsdale, and if you're looking to just try it out they often run groupons so check that out. There's bike parking up front, and some dedicated car spots out back. The owner is often the one at the desk and is very nice. All the facilities are always clean. I can't speak to the mediation lounge since it's been closed for the pandemic but the floats keep me coming back! If you are floating fir the first time, here's my recommendations: 1) when you are showering before the float, use the coldest water you can tolerate. That way the pod will feel warm 2. Dry your face off completely before you get into the pod. Evaporating water will be itchy and make it hard to relax 3. Get a good seal on the earplugs so you won't get water in the earballs 4. Try not to get water in your eyes. This water is hypersalinated like the Dead Sea and it HURTS to get in your eyes! read more

This was my first experience floating and it was honestly better than I was anticipating. I became interested in the idea of floating about 15 years ago when I came across the work of Dr. John Lilly and his early experiments on sensory deprivation in the 1950s. The idea fascinated me, but I didn't think I would ever have the opportunity to experience it for myself. Luckily I found Float Madison. I'm trying to think of a single critique of my entire experience, but everything was perfect. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable on the history, the current research, and the best practices of float therapy. The facility is beautiful, well-thought out, clean, and makes you feel relaxed from the moment you enter. I've been practicing mediation for a while, and the best way I can explain the experience it that it's akin to a powerful, reflective, meditative experience. This was seriously such a cool experience. I would absolutely recommend that everyone try it at least once. I was gifted a float from a friend for my birthday. We were the first floaters of the day and arrived about 15 minutes early. Since I had never done it before, the owner took the time to thoroughly go over everything with me which I really appreciated. The float itself was very cool. I found it to be very relaxing and enjoyable. I was drifting in and out of sleep and feeling weightless. Definitely like nothing I had ever experienced before. Afterward, we were able to hang out in the tea room for a bit and had some hot tea. They have books and comfy couches in there. We were then greeted by the owner again who asked us how it was, made sure we didn't need anything, etc. We were never rushed in the whole process, and I think we could have stayed and hung out there all day if we wanted! Float Madison is an absolutely amazing place to go to float! I've been to a couple places in Chicago and it's nice to see that Madison has the same level of professionalism and quality all at a cheaper price. Checking in was a breeze and was given instructions upon entering. They were able to answer all of my questions as well as give some tips on how to have the best float. The filtration system is kinda loud when getting out which ruins the mood a bit, but a quick exit to the relaxation room puts you back in peak mindfulness. It was an amazing experience at a steal of a price. I highly recommend to anyone who's just had a long week and needs to get away for a bit. Will be buying a monthly membership! read more

I Have been practicing meditation for a longtime and have a good handle on going into altered states, but floating in a tank makes it way easier and faster to put yourself into that state and go even deeper. The place is clean and has a beautiful atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and are happy to answer any questions you might have. Great instructions, great facility - clean, well designed, almost dead quiet. I used the hot tub-style tub. Floating isn't cheap, but it's one of the best ways (sort of) to escape gravity and really let your body unwind. read more

Great place to float! The owner is very nice and the facility is excellent. It's clean, private, up-to-date and offers variety with the new ocean float room. Located downtown, it offers a convenient escape from the bustle of city living. My husband and I booked online easily and has floats at the same time. I was lucky enough to use the ocean float room, but the pods are excellent too. We first became acquainted with floating at the Float Factor on the Westside of Madison. The facilities were comparable - both excellent - but this one is closer to home. My hubby's training for a marathon and I have severe chronic neurological pain, so we floated for very different reasons. You get a lot out of each float - it's personal and often cathartic. The recovery room helps give you time to reflect on your experience and take some time before reentering the world. I highly recommend people try floating - there are too many reasons to list! I will definitely return - in fact, we already have our next one booked. I consider it a medical necessity. read more

Great experience! It took me about 20 minutes to fully allow my mind to settle and just let go. It was surreal. I felt like I was fully supported and had to check to see if I was touching the bottom. I had my arms over my head which really surprised me because I have very tight shoulders. My husband loved it as well. My skin was so soft after. I will be doing this on a regular basis. read more
