An Absolute Wedding Treasure…read more When we decided to get married, we wanted to avoid the ridiculously high costs of weddings, and wanted a smaller, "family & close friends only" event, but still wanted a special day, of course. We toyed with the idea of a backyard wedding with "bring food as your gift" on the invite, ditching all the little expensive extras, but it wasn't coming together, especially when Mom fell sick. How lucky we were that a relative suggested the Mill Pond Inn, which was three houses down the street from their home in Nobleboro. It's a cliche, but The Mill Pond Inn is indeed a treasure. Bobby and Sherry are fantastic. We visited the place the summer before our wedding. A few months later, when we first talked with Bobby about our wedding schedule, he said "nah, you don't wanna do that" to a few of our ideas, and, as we were looking at each other during the phone call and realizing he was right, we decided to let him and Sherry run the show. What an *absolute* *relief*! We didn't have all the hassles that other folks warned us about when planning weddings. It was all just handled, and handled well. The food was great (we picked the menu, Bobby and Sherry did the rest . . . and we highly recommend bringing in their neighbors, Leigh and Sharon, who did a pre-ceremony oyster bar with local oysters for the guests as they arrived). Bobby and Sherry dealt with everything but the flowers (and there was a local florist that handled that) and music (we chose a playlist that we played over their sound system). There was *none* of the pre-wedding stress that we'd heard about from so many people. That itself was worth every penny! Speaking of which, the budget Bobby proposed was more than workable (yet another relief). All told the cost was well *under* what we'd budgeted. All we had to do was get invites out (tell your guests to bring swimwear -- the kids and a few adults had an absolute ball jumping into the pond and swimming during the meal and on into the afternoon). Part of the deal was that you had to rent out the entire place, but it was no problem filling the rooms with out of town relatives, and we in fact ended up reserving rooms in one of the homes across the road, which was right on the lake, which gave an added bonus of having lake access for a couple of days. Bobby and Sherry even accommodated Mom, who was in a wheelchair, by letting us bring and set up a portable AC in the front room -- she was very concerned about overheating in her condition, and this made her feel much safer. The day could not have been more magical. It was hot, but they knew where the shady spots were, and we set up so that the chairs and the gathering were in the shade when is was time for the ceremony. The setting was beautiful, and the weather cooperated (though Bobby had contingency plans in case of rain). We give Mill Pond Inn our highest recommendation -- we've given them permission to use our wedding photos, and we gave them our number if you want to hear it directly from us! David & Natalie

We find it a time of profound relaxation, if we choose it so, with limited internet access and much time watching the ocean. We also spend a lot of time reading and walking, and learning more each year about Maine. We use the library built by the Thompsons, with a focus on books by Maine authors, or set in Maine, plus the latest bestsellers. We use the books on local trails and sites to explore the area. Karen and Merle and the staff are always helpful, and have really helped us get to know the area. We'll be back in years to come, and are considering adding a May visit. After all, we want to get to know Maine in the springtime, as well as at the height of summer. And we know a wonderful place to serve as our home base.

While sites are small and close, we had adequate room for our camper and truck side by side and then room to sit and enjoy the sounds of the Atlantic Ocean from less than 100' away. Our site shared a utility post with neighbor site (front end and wrong side for us as back in unit) and voltage showed low so we used post on next site from us (they were tenting and didn't need power and said ok to plug to their post) Lots of children while we were there, but they were all so well behaved and everyone was enjoying the cool Seabreeze compared to the stifling temps further in town. Lots of rules and regs at this place, but that's part of what made it the perfect location for us during this trip. It gets a 4 out of 5 due to low voltage and utility hookups in a bad setup for us. We're ok with no sewer dump on our site (you can use their's once for every 3 nights or pay extra) but we're use to state parks and such so it was no problem.

The best part is the camraderie of the other campers, ovbiously from some of these ridiculous comments, not everybody "gets it" (try KOA or DaysInn!) - its the fellow campers tuned into the magic. Thank you Eleanor for all you do to keep this special place accessible, I look forward to coming "home" . My kids' best memories are from the Lobster Buoy and we reminisce often.

Our first floor room was small but had an en suite bath along with a sitting nook with a lovely view of the harbor. Breakfasts were amazing and just the right way to start the day. We loved the shops in Boothbay better than anything we saw in Bar Harbor. Quality merchandise. Porch was relaxing with its view of the harbor, and we were directed to a lovely shore walking path a few minutes away. Ports of Italy, Harborside 1901, and Harbor Treats are not to be missed. Captain Sawyer's is just a few minutes from the amazing Coastal Maine Botanical Garden.

The cottage sleeps up to 6 people and has an fully equipped kitchen with basic essentials. I was surprised to see there were coffee filters, garbage bags, dish soap, and basic kitchen appliances. The bathroom comes with toilet paper, hand soap, and a blow dryer. The beds were comfortable (we weren't expecting that considering we've slept on stiff beds many times during our travels). The biggest surprise of all was that the fireplace comes with firewood! You can also use one of their rowboats or kayak for free during your stay. We are very happy with the cottages and would love to come again. It really is a great getaway.

Perfect place for a Maine getaway…read more This isn't the yacht club down the street - this is a low key place that you go to relax and watch the water. The cabin I rented was perfect for me and a very large dog; we sat on the deck and watched the boats come and go. There was a dock with boats to use and Adirondack chairs scattered throughout so you could just watch the harbor. All the cabins are off the main road and tucked back towards the water. The view is breath taking, however....the owner is a complete ass. He is unfriendly, unpleasant and all he cares about is money. In the 15 years we simply where not able to make friends with him because he is just not nice. The staff has been fine all these years, but not Steve. We have had a couple incidents over the years, one, my husband hit a $4 fiberglass driveway marker with our camper,we were backing out and he simple didn't see it, we stopped at the office to let Steve know and to offer to pay for it. He through an absolute fit. We gave him $10 and apologized and he was just terrible about it. We almost didn't return the following year but decided that we loved our site so much that we would just deal with it. The next incident, another campers car rolled down the drive way and crashed into the trees right next to our camper...just a few feet from where my children were playing. It was pretty scary....luckily everyone was ok....the owner never even checked on us. The last incident was about 2 years ago, Steve came down and scolded us for laughing too loud at 9 pm at night. Said we needed to quiet it down. I assure you we were not being loud or disrespectful....this is just how the owner is. This year when I tried to book our site for next year, I was told that the ocean sites were all going seasonal and we were out of luck. No warning, no apology, no nothing. So after 15 years of staying at Grays, all of our loyalty and all of the referrals and people we have sent there...we are done . Just like that. So for those of you thinking about Grays, it is beautiful, it is expensive, ( Steve charges for every little thing) and the owner is an ASS!!

This is a family owned campground on the east side of Southport Island. There are about 40 sites,…read moreabout half have are on the ocean or a view of the ocean the rest nestled in the trees. There a dozen or so that are seasonal sites with more being converted to seasonal each year. Now these are not inexpensive sites but are reasonable for the location. This is our second season and are returning for another and more the lord willing health wise.
